I’m in town for a couple of weeks and needed a gym to keep up with my workouts, this place popped up on my feed, and I’m so glad I checked it out! I’m big on taking classes, and that’s what drew me in. I tried the Power Blast class, and it was such a fun, a strenuous workout.

One of the managers Jake gave me a tour and was super welcoming. Honestly, everyone that works at this facility was is super nice! The gym itself is DOPE! It’s clean, spacious, and has literally everything you could want. Whether you’re here to lift, do some CrossFit-style training, swim, play tennis, pickle ball, or even shoot some hoops, they’ve got it all.

Oh, and they make protein shakes there that are super yummy !

I’m so happy I found this place while I’m in town. Definitely recommend checking it out if you’re looking for a great gym with good vibes and amazing staff! 💪✨

In town for a week for a family thing and found this place. My son needed some free weights to keep up with his powerlifting and they have everything. I love this gym! The cycle bikes are excellent, I always get a lane for lap swimming at the pool, and the steam sauna leaves me feeling amazing! Staff are super kind and professional, and classes are diverse fun and accessible to all different ages and abilities… very excellent!

I was in the vicinity of this club (1 hour away) for a week visit and inquired about use of the pool to swim laps. A guest membership was arranged and it is an excellent 25m saltwater pool. Marked lanes.

Update: I had my 2nd swim on Sunday afternoon and pool was almost empty. Tried the 8x8 or so jacuzzi and the men's steam room and both were fine. Delanie? behind the counter, a runner, was charming and made a good smoothie. Maybe one more swim b4 departure.

Update 3. Stopped by on my way to KCI on Thursday but had no time to swim. BUT I may have left a black shirt and a new/old ball cap there. If found, please let me know. Thanks.

The gym is spacious and the employees are super nice. Very excited to have joined but I have my issues.

My big complaint is the weightlifting area needs a massive facelift. The walls have cracks in it. The equipment is torn up and a lot of the seats need replacements. Some of the attachments need replacements for the cable machine.

The positives are the locker room and swimming area are pristine. The downstairs cardio area is beautiful. The classes are fantastic and well ran.

For $90 a month it needs some updating.

This place is built like a modern retro gym. Gives the vibes of an old classic gym with old school weights mixed with modern up to date equipment mixed in with a ton of space to get your workouts in!

First of all I want to say that I've been a member since around 2018. Overall the staff there is great and I love the gym. I have a single membership that costs around $50 a month. Recently my son was in town from Florida to visit and we went to the gym and I asked about some type of day pass for my son so we could lift weights and play some ping pong. Was told he could purchase a day pass for $20 lol. At that point I was going to pay the $20 for the day pass even so that is ridiculous policy to have for their members. Then we were approached by a manager that asked how long my son was in town. Tuesday through Saturday so we told him so he told us he would give us the reduced price of $40 for 4 days AS LONG as we gave a review. I did say I would so here it is lol

Adequate.
The employees and club members are nice, they have just about everything anyone would need to get in a good workout.
The gym is about on par with other Genesis health clubs I have used as it relates to cleanliness; however, most of the weight machines are old and in need of repair/replacement. Many of the benches are in need of repairs. The drinking fountains have been broken for as long as I have been coming with no visible signage or expectation of replacement.
The biggest negative criticism I have is with the layout. There is nowhere to stretch and work on mobility without being directly behind the basketball backboard. Better not close your eyes while you’re doing a plank, or you might get hit. It’s pretty irritating and I would expect a large corporate gym to have this in mind when designing a large expansion to an existing club.
Overall, adequate and I will continue to use.

I would like to commend the maintenance staff in addressing the upkeep issues of running a gym and the tremendous effort in solving them. I, for one, have witnessed a continual effort in rectifying known issues. I use only the pool, steam room on all visits and occasionally the hot tub. So, this is where my kudos are addressed. I want to give you a 10+ (in addition to the 5 stars) for your efforts. The pool is perfect and steam working great. Bottom line: What a fantastic turnaround the last months in positive efforts in solving problems. There will be breakdowns but what catches my attention is you see constant activity in resolving the issue. I am very grateful for the existence of the St Joe Genesis Club. Great employees with BUSY BEE attitudes, keeping membership informed, clean, courteous, and friendly. Keep up the great work.

We have been members since the location opened in St Joseph. That may be the last time the equipment was replaced and the amenities were in working order. It is pathetic how little attention is paid to cleanliness and maintenance. Management pays no attention to the results from the survey they send to the membership. If you are shopping for a health club in St Joseph, look elsewhere.

Worst customer service experience I’ve ever dealt with! I will never go back to this gym if I have to deal with the manager. There are classes for those with Arthritis using the Pool. It has been a shamble for months. Complaints to Staff did nothing. Complaints to the City Health Inspector may have. Now they can't get the water above 75. A heated Pool for paying members needs to be in the upper 80s. It is equipment like everything else in the facility. GET THIS FIXED.

Signed up in August for 6 months. I also signed up for personal training. It took me a while to figure out my schedule in order to fit in and I told the personal trainer this plus we were going on vacation. Well when I got back I looked on the member portal and the personal trainer used my times without me scheduling a session. She also never told us about the cancelation / no show policy and during this period I got sick as well but did let her know through text the morning of. I didn't know about the no show policy until I went to cancel with the gym due to the used times without my consent. They stated that I would have to go in person with $200 to cancel the gym membership when I called. I will let it go to collections and dispute as I wrote corporate of the situation and will make a review with BBB. They are not very informed consent minded or explaining it at all but rushed to have us sign up. Bad practices for a business. Sun was always in my eyes with the cardio machines when I went, Showers just had a plastic sliding curtain and not very modest with some of the other gym goers not even shutting the curtain when they shower. Sauna area in the women's side only worked once while I went other then that it was out of order.

Even though they have tons of members of all ages who all pay $70+ a month for their membership. Genesis still will not fix their ac. It’s been 80 degrees most of the summer inside. Today being the hottest with a 94 degree temp inside the gym. They also have leaking roofs. Which water drips from the ceilings. They sit of buckets to try and catch the water. But unfortunately they can’t catch all of it. Therefore leaving puddles on the floor by the benches or by the track that goes around the basketball court. I’ve seen a senior citizen fall, and spoke with another member and they stated they have seen someone slip and fall also. We as members know that there is 4 ac units on top of the building and only one is working. You can spend thousands of dollars by adding 3 more squat racks and at least 5 new machines. I’m assuming to bring in new members. How about you start with providing ac to the current members who have been there paying month after month year after year so your location had the means to add more items to the gym. I have posted to facebook and have asked the community to share my post. I will also be calling corporate. Yes I have spoken with multiple employees regarding the issue and they all say we are so sorry. I’m sorry that they have to work in 80+ degrees for 4+ hours a day.

I started here in mid-January after my husband passed away. I met with Brandon. He was patient and kind and helped me identify what would work best for me. He was then taken from me! However, I was able to work with Marcus and continue with personal training sessions with him. He is amazing, helpful, kind, and does his best to make sure I always have a good workout. Jose is always kind and pleasant at the front desk.
I also want to give a shout out to the cleaning staff. I am there 3 days a week and the place always looks so nice. I wish I could remember the names of the 2 women I see constantly working so hard to keep the place neat and clean, but I cannot.

Embarrassingly enough, we have had a family membership since before Genesis bought the tennis club in St. Joseph, MO. My husband has always used it and I only recently started going after retirement! I wanted to become stronger and more balanced and lose weight so I signed up for personal training to learn how best to proceed. I am so happy that I did. Marcus Miller is my trainer and he is terrific! I was a little concerned that I might get one of those young men that like to work out, but have no rapport with others, especially 67 year old women (we all know the type). He is so kind and very informative. Marcus always strives to make certain that I am making progress without any injuries. (I’m considering adopting him! LOL!) He has helped me become comfortable with the gym and gym etiquette. It’s been 4 weeks now and I feel so much better and stronger. Balance is improving as well. I highly recommend Genesis as your gym. All the other trainers that I have met are very helpful and not the least bit condescending to older people.

I have also tried the Silver Sneakers which is a hoot and not as easy as you expect! The yoga stretch class is so relaxing. I’m looking forward to trying other

Where will it go from here, up or down... we're reviewing the club this week on a 7 day pass to see if this will fit our families needs. First visit was a bit awkward as the pass was to give us time to see if we like this gym and we were asked to join immediately... Second... then when we stated we wanted to utilize the full 7 days before making our decision we were then told the "special pricing" associated with the trial offer ended in 4 days. 🤔🤔
Third & lastly... there were some grown young men trolling around my very young minor daughters that was concerning... 😡 I definitly don't want that in a gym!! Sooooo, we shall see how tonight's visit goes.
The great part of the first visit we did encounter was the staff, especially a very sweet girl working the front desk last night that was helpful above and beyond expected. We appreciated that for sure!! This is day two and we'll be updating again!!

On multiple occasions, we have attempted to take our kids to the children's room on Saturday. The posted hours are 8:00-12:00. Yet, we've gone and nobody is there. We have learned to call before going and yet again, we are disappointed. A big part of choosing this particular gym was the children's room. Yet it's rarely available during the hours it states it should be open. If this was a one time thing, I'd be understanding. But this keep happening.

This place has deceptive pricing policies. They advertise low membership fees but tack on several other fees which make it expensive. The monthly membership dues end up being far greater than advertised prices. We set up a membership for my mother in law who lives in another town. When we went to cancel it because she was no longer able to utilize it, they made it incredibly difficult. There is no option to cancel online, through email, or over the phone. You have to go in person or snail mail a cancellation request. The customer service rep in the corporate billing dept was very unhelpful and inflexible. Do not give this place your money!

Parking lot is quite large so finding a parking spot is not difficult. The walking/running track is fine, but I wish they would have a directional arrow so everyone can walk in the same direction or switch between days. Gym equipment looks pretty up to date with only one or two pieces which were marked as not operational. The strongest part of this gym is their changing rooms, which connect to the swimming pool and whirlpool. I like their lockers, reminds me of the very fancy lockers at the Mizzou rec center. Keyless locks worked well. Only downside was that the first shower I came to the water pressure was only a trickle. The next one was very good however. I did ask a maintenance person to let them know and he came back to follow up with me to make sure he understood which shower I had the problem with which I really appreciated.

I also tried their chocolate banana smoothie with a multivitamin infusion. I definitely did not like the smoothie, it has a bitter aftertaste. Might be the infusion. I wasn’t expecting it to be sweet but I don’t like the bitter aftertaste.

VERY BAD OPINION!! They took our money in vane I just went two months and wanted to cancel so they asked for 200 fee apart took money for the last 30 days fee. In fact A clear way to take your money. Really DISAPPOINTED ☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️

We just completed swim lessons for my 4 year old. His swim instructor, Matt, was AMAZING! We did 12 private lessons all 30 minutes each and when we started lessons, my son would not even get in the water without swimmy or jet pack on. By the end of our sessions, he now swims without any devices and all on his own like a little fish. The swim program and our swim instructor Matt far exceeded any expectations we had for lessons and I highly recommend!

We came here to check out the indoor pool! Ended up taking private and group swim lessons! My child has improved so much in her swimming because of the swim instructors! My daughter looks forward to lessons! The instructors are really invested in the children and making sure they are improving every lesson! There are also fun events they have had such as movie in the pool and game days in the pool, and you don’t even have to be a gym member to attend! While we don’t need it, they also have a great baby and parent class too! We also enjoy the aquatic classes that are offered! Being able to use the pool year around has been great! If you or your child need swim lessons, I definitely recommend!

Usually work out at the genesis in KC on boardwalk and it’s a bit outdated, But overall would recommend it to anybody. Decided to take a buddy to the one in St. Joseph while up that way and gotta say not great. Plates don’t fit barbells well at all, and then paid 20 bucks for a buddy pass for one day…. Can’t say I’d bring someone back with me.

I got this membership down in KC and moved to STJ and kept it. I miss having the multiple locations but this is still a great gym. I wish they would add more equipment. I often find the weight room is busy and all the racks and benches are filled

Honest review is it fine just not for me. My wife loves it so shes keeping a membership and Im dropping. Ill invest that dues money into a home gym. Other people we know also enjoy it so Ill just explain why its not for me. The culture is a bit odd and me not being from around here Im not used to getting stared at by strangers. My wife also says the way people stare here is creepy, but shes better at ignoring them than I am. I enjoyed the pool, but its usually over crowded with old folks bobbing around so getting a lane is too much trouble. The place stays crowded so theres no good time of day. The employees are kind of blah, niether warm nor engaging, but not jerks either. Its often not supplied, like towels etc. And sometimes the cleanliness leaves something to be desired. Also they have some kind of deal with the local schools so theres always a ton of children around. Its like lifting weights in a high school sometimes. Anyway just not for me, seems fine for others.

I love Genesis! As an MMA fighter and professional jiu jitsu competitor, my first several visits were for the purpose of cutting weight which is a semi-miserable experience as is, but their steam room (when operable) makes the cut much easier. Moreover, I have discontinued long distance running due to a pending knee surgery, needless to say, their swimming pool saved my cardio! I shared a similar opinion with a friend who, as a result, switched his membership from Planet Fitness to Genesis the following week. Long story long, Genesis is the best quality membership for the price.
