Great. Love the instructors in both the chair yoga and the water aerobics. The teachers know their stuff, and they are able to pass it on the the student. All the staff are cooperative and helpful. Equipment is clean and the towels are warm. Good place.

Front desk is filled with people that remember your name. Especially Parker! Gives you a reason to smile, before you even get to the gym.

Huge space! It’s like a foot ball field indoors. 6 squat racks! Weights by 2.5lbs up to at least 45lbs and then by 5s into the 100s.

Great gym, great equipment, great hours, great price.

Also, kids club means I can get my daughter out of the house too!

I’ve been a member for 3+ years now. Love it!

Love this gym. This gym is where I started my health and wellness “hobby” as it were and always make it a point when I’m on leave/no longer playing Army for a few days, to come back to this gym because it holds a special place in my heart.

This gym is by far the worst of the locations I’ve been to. The equipment is outdated and the locker has what appears to be mold spores in several areas. I know they are working on the mold in the ceiling as that is recent water damage, but the spores in the locker have been there for months.

Update: 4 months after my online review they updated the carpet and the appearance of mold. Equipment is still subpar.

I’ve been coming to Ward Parkway location for about a year and a half now, and I love it. The staff is ALWAYS welcoming and attentive to the needs of guests. They make sure to work as quick as possible to make any repairs to equipment. It’s my favorite location to come to. The trainers have always been great and their classes are fun. I’ve went to a yoga, Zumba, and power group class to name a few. I enjoy Najee’s boot camp class on Thursday evenings so much! He is motivating to all class participants and keep you energized. This is great gym but no AC in the summer, especially in the cardio area is unacceptable for the money the members pay to be here.

And I don't blame the onsite staff, I blame upper management for not providing them the resources or maintenance needed to address these issues.

I’ve been a member at this location for 8 years and frequently utilize my membership (20+ days a month). For the last couple years they seem to have “malfunctioning” air conditioning during the summer months, especially on the second floor where the majority of the cardio equipment is located. Management deliberately keeps the air conditioning off to save money during then hotter months of the summer or knowingly doesn’t fix broken AC Units. Ironically the AC always seems functional during cooler months of the year but remains off or broken for the peak heat of the summer months. I’ve mentioned this a few times to people who work at the front desk and it’s obvious this is out of their hands. Yesterday it was 87 or 88 upstairs and has consistently been in the 80’s for weeks now. People utilize the gym to run to avoid the extreme heat or cold, not be met with conditions that revival the outside. After at least the second summer in a row of playing this game with the air conditioning with no resolution it’s become unacceptable. I’m attaching a picture I took yesterday showing the extreme temperature. I could attach more as I’ve been taking a picture daily since the beginning of June to document this after what they did all last summer.

The manager Jose is a complete joke! I work in healthcare contracted in Kansas City till March 31st! On April 13th I gave my 30 day notice before my payment came out April 15th (so I wouldn’t get charged in May for the month of June) to the front desk girl at (4am usual time I workout)… she said she would let the manager know! Well come May 15th I’m getting charged again, I go into the gym to talk to Jose aka AWFUL MANAGER…how he got this position is honestly very shocking! Horrible customer service skills! Jose begins to blame another coworker for his mistake saying there is nothing he can do about his mess up! I refuse to pay for a month since I no longer will be in Kansas City… moving to a town that doesn’t even have a Genesis! It’s honestly funny how he showed me the cancellation form dated 4/24 by email to cancel! I didn’t cancel by email or on 4/24! If someone that’s above Jose… could contact me I would love to speak to them! He won’t give me his managers number… Thanks!

I used to go to this gym before COVID. For the most part, it enjoyed it. I then left for deployment and had to cancel my membership, when returning I asked if they still have military discount, I was told no. So I never signed up again. At least one twice a week I get spam called, I used to ignore but I started answering so I could ask them to take me off calling list. When I answer, they hang up right away. I call back and have asked them THREE times to take me off call list. The last two times, it’s been a woman, she clearly isn’t taking me off because they keep calling and hanging up. I’ve had membership at numerous other Genesis around the city and none of them have ever called and hung up on me. It’s annoying please stop!

First time in the place since the remodel I’ve the years and I must say wow. The service I received at the front counter was nothing like 24 Hr Fitness. I believe her name was Lisa and her coworker Jose. Greeting me with a smile and had full of energy. I am extremely disappointed and frustrated with the recent “Taco Tuesday” event at the Ward Parkway Genesis gym. Blasting music through an outrageously loud PA system with a DJ in a fitness facility was completely unacceptable, disruptive, and frankly disrespectful to your members. This is a gym—not a party venue. The noise was unbearable, shattering the focus and calm that people come here to find, and worse, there were children present who should never have been exposed to that level of volume. It showed a shocking lack of consideration for your members’ well-being. Events like this are not just a poor fit—they are a violation of the atmosphere we pay for and expect. I strongly urge management to take this seriously and ensure this never happens again. This was not just a bad idea—it was a selfish and thoughtless disruption to everyone there.

The gym is fine, but the club and service is horrendous. I used to be a member years ago, I didn't leave because I was upset at them, I just didn't utilize it enough. What is beyond frustrating is the constant phone calls I have received from their sales team even after I explicitly said to stop calling me.

When I reached out to the club regarding this, I was met with attitude from the person because she said she didn't call me. I thought when calling a business, referring to the business as a whole as 'you' is pretty normal, but I digress.

The manager did remove me, but there was no regard for my concerns because that's just what the sales people do. Find a better, maybe even locally owned gym that won't treat you like this.

I come to this location because they have the best hours in the area, even though it’s not my home branch and I like the pull down ropes since I’m limited on cardio using a walker.

For starters, the floor mats are not smooth and the legs of my walker have gotten caught in the jumps several times. The staff are mostly nice. The women’s locker room has a huge hole in the corner square that a human being could crawl into. The toilets don’t flush properly half the time and the one at the end sprays water everywhere and got my clothes wet.

The equipment is not in good shape either. It’s almost seems like they don’t really feel like the guests who frequent this lotion are worthy of more. Half of the shower curtains don’t close all the way and most of the shower heads are in terrible shape. I also wish they’d put some paper towels S an option rather than the hand dryers

It really is the least palatable of all Genesis in the area. I hope they renovate because the locals deserve better.

I wish I could give this gym more stars! For $120 dollars a month (two person membership), I wanted to like it so bad.. I focus on weightlifting and cardio in the gym, but I had so many challenges when trying to work out at Genesis Ward Parkway. Some of the treadmills were in horrid condition (exposed wires), the machines were broken/worn down, and some of the staff were extremely rude (Particularly, the shorter lady with glasses and short locs). I used to work late nights so I’d have to rush in to get a work out in before they’d close at 10 on Fridays, and I heard her tell her coworker, “these people need to get out,” while turning the overhead lights off at 9:30 pm. Once again, $120 a month is far too much money to pay to have the lights turned off on you during the last 10 minutes of your workout.

The icing on the cake was when I got met with attitude by the sales person (Jose Alvarez) after I requested to get pictures of the signed closing paperwork. I have been screwed by gyms in the past and just wanted to make sure I had proof of signature so I don’t get any additional charges.

Genesis, pay your employees more so they don’t come to work hating the people who give your company money. Thanks!

Customer service is everything to me, and unfortunately, my experience this morning was disappointing. I raised a concern with staff, and the response I got left a bad taste in my mouth. Fifteen minutes into my workout, I decided to leave.

As paying customers, we shouldn’t have to deal with poor service, especially with high fees. I get that everyone has bad days, but I’d appreciate a more open, receptive attitude to feedback. Unfortunately, I was under the assumption that I was signing up for a membership at an insanely good discount. After many questions asked to the gym employee who was signing me up, it was still advertised to me that my rate would be a certain price. I caught it 3 months later that it was actually double that. I tried to explain my case to customer service and the manager themselves and neither felt anything concerning about the situation and that there was no fault on the gym. In no communication with either party was there an apology for potential miscommunication on the gyms part. I was willing to take the loss on the monthly rate I was paying in hopes to just cancel at no cost, but I still had to pay an early cancellation fee. Very disappointed with the customer service. Please ask for a printout of the contract BEFORE signing. You can’t visualize it in its entirety as you are signing up on a small tablet screen.

I have been a member of this gym since day 1 when it opened as 24 hour fitness (I believe around 2003). I mainly use the gym for Group X classes and have been taking spin classes since the beginning. 2 years ago I rated the gym 5 stars. Fast forward to current times and a 1 star review. Since the Fall of 2023 the situation with operational bikes in the cycle room is not acceptable and WE NEED ACTION not WORDS or EXCUSES. There are currently 6 bikes out of approximately 30+ bikes that work. Members are constantly in touch with management about this situation and I personally shared this in an email review and nothing is being done. We have outstanding instructors and an avid and dedicated group of people who take spin classes who have been beyond patient with the situation and deserve better than this. Is this really how you run a company by offering broken equipment to paying members of a business? I wouldn't want my business name associated with this and my disappointment and frustration is reaching its limit. Take action and replace our equipment.

4 years ago, I have a 5 star review and now I give it one star for my instructor's. I attend this gym 7 days a week. This location at Ward Parkway has really declined. I have been in contact with the group manager since January about issues with the spin bikes. Today, in class we had 12 attendees and we did not have enough working bikes out of 23 bikes in class. Also, I use the sauna daily and it has been out of commission for 3 weeks. Really disappointed that this location is not getting the maintenance up keep it needs.

We have a family membership to this location. Love all the options for different workouts and special holiday workouts that we get to do together. Appreciate the early 5:30 classes and strong, reliable instructors that show up and make it worth it.

My daughter purchased a membership back in January 2024. She has never even been to the gym after that. She is being charged this ridiculous membership fees and has not yet been there. She has called multiple times and keep getting the run around about cancelling, she doesn’t have a car and no one has ever told her that she can write a written letter asking to cancel. Someone also called her about a payment and she told them to cancel and they said they would. Come to find out about a month later it was not cancel and they are trying to charge her again. When asked about a refund was told they can’t because it doesn’t matter if you use the gym or not they still charge you. How are you able to make money off of people who don’t even use your facilities and based off some of these reviews your facilities are not even up to par. This place is a rip off and are taking peoples hard earned money with out a care in the world.After the responded to the review I tried calling multiple times and I’m still getting the run around. Have yet been able to speak with a manager

My husband and I sign up here but every time he went to the gym he found some racist person being a jerk. I never received my email confirmation when you first sign up but the moment I wanted to cancel my membership they reply fast with paperwork that had my signature on and why I couldn't cancel. They want me to pay $200 to be able to cancel the contract. I sign up to pay certain amount every month but within two months they were charging me more than what we had agreed on. They don't really care about their customers.

As of today May 22, 2021, I am still receiving bills from this company. How did it went from $200 to $1,200 just because I decided to cancel a membership. I received the most recent bill this week for the amount of $1,200 dollar charge, for what are they charging me? I have no idea because I haven' been to their gym since I cancel the membership. I've called ahead of time to cancel my membership and gave them 30 days notice and also sent them signed paperwork that they asked for to cancel a membership. This is the worst and unprofessional gym I have ever done business with.

For the people who are looking to join this gym; BE VERY CAREFUL BEFORE YOU SIGN THEIR CONTRACT BECAUSE IF YOUR PLANS EVER CHANGE AND YOU WANT TO CANCEL YOUR MEMBERSHIP THIS IS WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN TO YOU. They will overcharge your account and charge you every month even though you are no longer using their service. May you be wise enough to make the right decision and choose the right gym for you without all this hassle I had to go through.

Today is August 3, 2024, I' am only updating this because just in case someone out there needs this information and it can be helpful to them.This gym sued me for almost $2,000 last year on March 2023. Some guy came to my house saying he had a package for me and needed my signature. I signed and he handed me some court papers and, so the box and the story he had package for me, was just a way to get me to sign the court papers (I hate the way they handle business, is all a scam just like this gym). I was so disappointed and worried. So, I decided to hired a lawyer Callahan Law firm. I thank God I did, he made this transaction smooth. He helped me to get this people of my back and ended up paying Genesis health just $200. I rather pay a lawyer than a business like Genesis health, they are a big scamer with no integrity to do business. I hope this helps anyone who's caught up in this mess. It's a really nice gym with a lot of equipment. I go early in the morning. I've never had any problems having to wait for equipment. They have had some problems posting their odd hours during holidays online. Early in the morning they used to have really nice people working, now they have people that completely ignore you when you walk in and leave which I guess in the scheme of things is not a big deal, but the atmosphere used to be a lot friendlier. It's a good gym, their people are just icy(at least in the morning) based on my experience.

It is nearly impossible to stop paying fees when canceling a membership. The annual fee was taken out of my account on June 18. I tried calling that evening, but no one answered. I called back on the 19th, but was told I need to sign papers in person. I took off work on June 20th to get that done. I was told I had to give a 30 day notice, so can’t get any of that fee back. Ok, I understand. I was told it wasn’t 30 days before the next billing cycle, so I will also have to pay the July 14 fee giving me access to the gym until Aug 14. I tried to contact the gym the same day money came out of my account in June, but that would not have been 30 days either. I would have needed to contact them before my June payment came out to avoid the July payment. I highly encourage people not to sign a contract because this is crazy. Going through a divorce and can’t afford it anymore, but clearly large companies don’t care about their members

I’ve been training at this location for about 3 years. Everyone who works here is amazing and really helpful. Buuuut can we do something about the smith machine that is about 20 years old?!? It’s been “out of order” for about a month or so. It will probably get fixed soon because Beau does miracles but it’s probably time to scrap that baby. Last time I asked someone in charge about the smith machine, the guy told me that is not his priority. There are people like me, who don’t have a gym partner and the smith machine is very helpful. we would really appreciate something from this century

I went to genesis today for a trail run and they were nothing but helpful. I was with Tyler Gormely, and he walked me around the facilities showing me everything and when I asked a question he immediately had an answer for me. After carefully reading other people’s comments about my trainer Leon. I have decided to share my personal experience with fitness side of Ward Parkway.

I’ve had a very strong disturbing experience at the Genesis location on Ward Parkway from the first time I signed up. I have been a member there ever since they first opened as a 24 hour fitness location before Genesis took over. I have had nothing but big problems there. That location has gone through massive turnover. Every single month there’s a new staff. The gym has had maintenance issues, the pool is dirty, hot tub is dirty, and not much has changed since they first opened.

To top things off I have been screwed over by various personal trainers at that location. I noticed that they were not as engaged with their clients and looked like they didn’t care to be there. The workouts completely sucked! That shows you how the fitness management operated. They literally did not care. I can recall signing up for personal training sessions with one particular trainer. That guy quit on me before we started our training sessions because he got sick of the toxic mess that has been going on there. I asked the current fitness manager Brad to cancel the rest of my sessions and he refused to give me back my money and kept charging me $200 each month, because I signed a contract with a trainer that quit.

I was on edge of quitting and switching over to Lifetime fitness or Chiefs fit. However, that changed when I started training with Leon. He helped convince me to stay at that location because he heard my concerns of getting screwed over by previous personal trainers. He treated me like a human being and went above and beyond to help me achieve my goals. I was able to get real results from him and he helped changed my perspective to continue to do business at that gym. I have witnessed the fitness manager Brad try to antagonize my trainer Leon publicly. He would not put up with it and stood up for himself. At the beginning of New Year’s I noticed my trainer Leon’s body language changed. I was concerned for him and asked what was wrong. He expressed to me that he was feeling discriminated at Ward Parkway from the fitness manager Brad. Now my trainer Leon has to relocate to a different location. This is very unprofessional and completely inconvenient. Now I have to drive an extra 20 minutes going the opposite direction just to continue training with him.

This is very disappointing to me. When my trainer Leon started working at the Ward Parkway location I noticed Leon gave some life to the personal training side. Leon helped changed things around. Now I have no doubt just based off my bad experiences that the Ward Parkway fitness side of things will be going back down into the toilet.
