I would leave negative if I could. My friend and I go there all the time. The first few months were fine but I got told today the membership I had wasn't "Right" and that the person that did it wasn't "correct in how they put it in, we can't do that" and we called before I came up there and asked about it and purchased the membership so now instead of $50 it'll $75 which is a big jump. But also today my friend that I go with regularly left his hoodie in plain sight on a bench on acadent. He remembered half way home I live closest so I turned around to go get it. It was maybe 30/45 minutes after it was left I asked if anyone had turned it in and if no did they see someone take it or could they check cameras. It's not a cheap hoodie he workes in industrial areas so it's a work hoodie that's meant to with stand a lot. They looked for maybe a few moments and said it wasn't turned in. And that's it. They didn't say they could check cameras or anything they just shuffled stuff and said done with it.
Which was very disappointing and frustrating as it was in plain view. So should be easy to check a camera or something to see what happened.

Gem, unpolished but perfect for me. The shower was updated and new with everything I needed. The seated elliptical and t5 trainer was very well situated in the gym. The life machines were perfect for my arm workout. Everyone seems satisfied and even happy here. Great parking and handicapped parking. Will Go there again. I have been there but they are going through remodeling. Every YMCA function is messed up. The phone is answered and the staff says they are sorry. They hang up and smile or Snicker or laugh out loud. Very sad how fast it went downhill.

I am just finishing my one week free trial membership and will be signing up for a monthly membership. The pool is great for swimming laps. Depending on the set up, one length is either 25 yds or 25 meters. I’ve only had to share my lane one time. The universal locker room is nice, includes a suit centrifuge. It can get busy in there since the women’s locker room is being renovated, but it’s been fine and reasonably convenient. I am excited to try some of the included group classes like Zumba and Tai Chi.

I’ve been a member for 2 years now.
They had the women’s locker room closed for a VERY long time due to renovations, briefly reopened it, and now it’s closed AGAIN!

Now the women’s temporary locker room is the men’s old locker room (gross AND a safety hazard, how many men do you think have accidentally walked in there out of habit?) & most importantly:
THERE’S ONLY ONE BATHROOM STALL.
ONE. It’s the middle of summer, everyone in STL is trying to go to the gym and you’ve only got 1 stall in the ladies locker room? Is the YMCA aware of how many members it has? I’m literally canceling my membership today over this because I shouldn’t have to be standing in a line of 5+ women all waiting to use to the damn toilet. We pay too much money for this.

I am on a burner account for my child’s safety and treatment. The things my child tells me about camp is unacceptable. The treatment of children and counselors is careless and I will no longer have my child attending once I can afford to send him somewhere else. There are children on medication that makes them more susceptible to heat stroke. It is not acceptable to have my child along with others to be in the heat during this weather. I believe this is more to do with administration because the organization of the camp is poor. My child isn’t getting the care he needs and is bored. There should be MORE counselors to accommodate for the amount of children. I do not believe it is okay to have us paying and there are not enough counselors to entertain or care for our kids. I’m speaking to other parents about this and I hope they give all the counselors a raise because it is apparent that administration does not care for anyone but themselves. If my child or another child is sick or passes out because of this heat I will be filing charges for negligence. I am so livid right now it is not even funny.

I'm really disappointed with how things have been going at this YMCA location this year. For $2,500 for one child, the lack of organization and communication just isn’t acceptable.

Camp information was sent out on the first day of camp — and it wasn’t even a full schedule. Just a basic swim schedule, with no details about other activities like foam parties or anything else, leaving parents completely in the dark.

Both my wife and I have been emailing the camp coordinator and the general contact email, and to this day, we haven’t received any response at all. Not even a confirmation that our message was received.

To give some perspective, my daughter attended the Kirkwood location for just one week, and the difference was night and day. They kept parents informed daily, gave clear instructions about weekly activities.

I understand camp just started, but when you're working with other people’s kids and charging this much, the bare minimum should be consistent communication and timely responses. A simple “we received your email and will get back to you” would go a long way.

This Y has publicized hours on the website and supposedly different actual hours posted somewhere in the Y which are very hard to see. Regardless, if they are going to post hours on the site, they need to abide by them and stay open as long as they say. I have gotten kicked out 15 minutes early a few times now, which is more than annoying. It cost me time/money to drive there that I might not have taken if I knew they were going to shortchange us on hours. Further, they need a firm, enforceable policy about members playing music or videos on their phones aloud without headphones on. I come to the gym, as I am sure others do, to get in my own zone and don’t appreciate being forced to listen to others’ music or whatever else they might listen to. Recently when biking near the upper track, I encountered a runner who was blaring her music while running around the track for 30 minutes or more. I asked her to turn it down or put on headphones a few times, and she refused each time (said something to the effect of “you’re at the gym; suck it up”). I phoned down and asked the woman at the front desk to intervene; she said she was too busy. I called again, and she said the Y had no rule about music playing and so, effectively, people could play their music out in the open, anywhere, and as loud as they want. Really?? For a place thay is supposed to foster inclusivity, the rules are not consistent or altogether considerate of others.

This gym is not ideal for young adults looking to utilize the full ymca because they prioritize pickleball which results in you not being able to use the gym for other sports I’ve tried to come to this ymca 4 weekends in a row and almost never have been able to play basketball which results in me driving 30 minutes to Maryland heights every weekend.

Why does this YMCA Make its own hours , closes at 4pm on weekends , closes at 9pm on weekdays ? Every other Y is open till 10pm and to top it off, the staff believes 9pm means 8:45pm everyone needs to be out of “their” facility !!! News flash buddy without members there is no ymca !!! This place needs an overhaul asap !!! No one cleans !!! This place is disgraceful. Things are getting worse and worse. The front office has been informed & they just ignore it, if I come here one more time & see all the nasty shit, I’ve been seeing the past year !! I am going to just call the health department my damn self !!! Fair Warning to the staff.

I really enjoy my workouts here. It's not too crowded and no one is intimidating (whether they intend to be or not) in the weight room or classes. It's very normal person/ beginner friendly. There's a brand new family locker room. The pool has lanes, a deep end, and a large hot tub & a sauna.
Ladies locker room (formerly the girls locker room) has a dressing area and a steam room.
In general a comfortable place to be. The weight & equipment rooms are pretty new equipment and neat.
Some of my friends won't like the old-school feel of the pool and gym / track but I appreciate the space & it is very nicely maintained.
The synchronized swimming instructor is the nicest person I've ever met.

Across all YMCA's I wish group classes had a secondary instructor to assist with form. The all-levels classes have so many people trying to do advanced form before they've developed the support for it. - I find this distracting & feel for the instructors who really want the clients to listen to their bodies more. All movement is progress, & as long as no one is hurt that's just the difference between a studio and a Y class.

I cancelled my membership for this to be my home branch. Still a ymca member, but went to the South City YMcA instead and O-M-G it is a night and day difference. The people at front desk here DO NOT CARE about members. They are so unhelpful and rude, it’s crazy. They do not solve problems, I had to go to an entirely new branch for them to get my account straightened out.

Been going to this gym for years now.. I only use it for the Jacob’s ladder and previously racquetball courts and the heavy bag in the gymnasium. I dread coming to this ymca. Nobody wipes off the machines and it’s disgustingly dirty everywhere-I’m not sure if they ever clean this gym.. in the gymnasium they have stuff lining the entire perimeter of the basketball courts..the one single heavy bag they have is chained up in the corner with the dust broom.

it not only feels as though they don’t take things seriously and do nothing, but also don’t listen or frankly care about my experience with their members. It also LOOKS and feels so gross and dirty. I highly suggest you consider NOT this branch, but another YMCA branch in the area. You will have a friendlier, cleaner experience.

The lack of communication is RIDICULOUS and SO INCONSIDERATE. To drive 20+ minutes here only to arrive and find out my girls swim lessons have been canceled IS SO ANNOYING. Not once, not twice, not 3 times, LITERALLY COUNTLESS TIMES.

THE MOST RECENT TIME, JULY 22, 2024, THEY CANCELED THE WHOLE, ENTIRE 4 SESSIONS AND DID NOT INFORM ME!! I was in the hospital the night before until 6 am, came home slept for a little and WOKE UP AND RUSHED TO GET MY BABY TO SWIM LESSONS only for them to tell me they’ve been canceled ENTIRELY. WHY DIDNT I KNOW THIS?!?!?

I have rushed through rain, sleet, LITERALLY SNOW, only to arrive and be told that swim lessons are canceled. They tell me to download the app, I download the app. I update my communication preferences, and they still do not communicate! How hard is it to send out a mass text saying “today swim lessons are canceled!!” But whenever my bill is due, they damn near stop me from walking in the building and be ready to call Maplewood police!!!

Went to front desk to ask a question about my membership. 10 minutes before closing. Kind lady at the desk asked me if I was crazy trying to talk to her while she’s closing. Then told me to leave and come back another time. She had a party to go to that I overheard her talking about. This was 6/1/24 at 3:50pm if anyone at YMCA would like to follow up with their employee of the month. Definitely canceling membership now. Pools at multiple locations are dirty as well. And the locations with the indoor slides never have them open. Got membership originally to take kids to the indoor slides.

The pool and female staff are wonderful. They greet you with a smile and say your name as you check in. The guys in option haven't caught on to that. In fact a male staff member was talking to another staff and didn't even acknowledge a hello when I checked in or left I guess this conversation was much more important than the members around him. The little 5hings things matter. Overall it is a very nice pool with a deep end 12'

These guys hold themselves out as being very community oriented and motivated while at the same time paying their workers less than a living wage (I know these because a lot of them were my friends). Which I find surprising, because at the same time they don’t pass that extra money along to their members—e.g they don’t offer towel service and rarely clean the men’s locker room—most notably the steam room always stinks in the evenings.. Additionally, when stuff gets stolen from your lockers there (like a bunch of my money and my wedding ring on one of three occasions) they won’t even make an incident report or confront the employee I literally knew stole my wedding ring by cutting a lock off my lock off with a bull cutter. Ultimately, I had to take it into my own hands by calling the police and having him prosecuted (he pled guilt to felony stealing in St. Louis County). So keep this in mind when you join. I will admit, they offer a competitive price but it is at the expense of properly compensating their employees which creates a profound lack of care which is present in most elements of the services they offer. I know this from personal experience after having volunteered (I did get a free membership) for 5 years running their racquetball league.

I’m being very very very generous with giving the men’s locker room a 4. The rest of this Y was very good and the staff friendly and helpful BUT THE MEN’s LOCKER ROOM IS ATROCIOUS. MANY OF THE LOCKERS ARE BROKEN AND EVEN WORSE THE ONLY PLACES TO SIT FOR GETTING DRESSED ARE THESE TINY CHAIRS and I’m being generous by calling them chairs. They look like tiny tables. NO BENCHES. HEY FOLKS HOW ABOUT SAFETY FOR YOUR MANY SENIOR PATRONS?!!

Go elsewhere, all YMCAs, particularly this location, are absolutely filthy and unkept. (Mold in the bathrooms, broken locker doors, standing dirt on the floors, musty mold and urine smells). Beware of the YMCAs CC policy. My CC was stolen and it took 2 days for me to get a new card. I updated my card in 4 days at the YMCA and they still charged me a $25 fee. I asked them about this fee and they claimed it's because they incur a fee. So, if my card is declined, for example, at Starbucks, they get charged $25 from their CC processor? I think not and this shows that the YMCA does not care and allows this scam to continue. Because the YMCA board makes a terrible decision to allow a CC processor to charge them $25 when a CC is declined does not mean this is ethical and a fair charge to the customer. I was going to pay the fee and move on but, out of principle and because the membership coordinator and other people working at the YMCA were so unbelievably condescending, rude, I decided to not pay and write this complaint. The membership coordinator was rude and actually said, "if you think this fee is wrong then you should not be a Y member"...again, from the Brentwood YMCA membership coordinator. Asking questions about the policy, asking to get the fee waived, stating that this CC policy is unethical are all reasonable comments. Merely asking these questions makes these individuals offended because the YMCA board makes the workers stand behind an unethical practice and when questioned, they dont have a legitimate, real reason to charge the fee. (Saying "because we are charged" does not make it legitimate.) When I say the staff is rude, this is coming down from the top as is the CC policy that is signed when you get the membership. Hopefully, this negative review will encourage the YMCA board to reconsider their unethical CC practices and have a sit down chat with their employees including the membership coordinator at the Brentwood location. Change your CC practices and stop being rude to your customers!

There is clearly enough space on the west wall of the workout area to move the machine allowing for its safe operation.

Had my phone stolen from this place. I get it. However, the front desk personnel had no idea how to handle it, and did not allow for the police to see surveillance video immediately. They didn't even take down my name to document the incident. I had to cancel my membership in order to have some record of it. There are thieves that use this YMCA and the people that work here do not seem to care. By the way, allowing random people off the street to use day passes is most likely the cause. But hey, I'm just some dude that lost his phone. This YMCA is a den of ineptitude and thievery.

I like the friendly people at this YMCA. They recently received new equipment in the weight room, however it is not sufficient. They replaced 2 machines that had 2 workout stations each on it. That made a total of having up to 4 people working out. It was replace with 2 one man machines. When a person is doing a cross body exercise, they are using both machines which takes up both machines and stations.
There is no longer a decline bench which many people used previously. The decline type of bench they have now is to narrow making it hard to keep your feet secure while doing sit-ups. It also has a narrow bench which only supports up and down the middle of your back while laying on it.
These are only a few things that I have mentioned here, but there are several other insufficient things I have noticed since they replaced the equipment, which makes working out at this facility kind of frustrating.
I did mention the lack of a decline bench to the manager and she said that she would consider what I said, but had not received one so far.
The last set ups they had when remodeling had been fine, but this replacement of equipment is not good.

Since my move to St Louis, coming from Chicago, where I’m a member of two Fitness Club, LA Fitness Club
and XSport, which is a 24 hour club absolutely great. Thus, to my surprise neither of the two Fitness Clubs exist in St Louis.
Thus dear friends of mine in St Louis recommended the Y, heard of them, but never checked them out.
Thus, was taken to the Y in Carondelet Park, and noticed to many children all over areas, I patronize the most, especially the pool, thus discouraged. Till I was shopping around the Brentwood Mall, exiting to an unknown street seeking to find Brentwood St, I noticed the Y, than decided to take another look, which noticed more adults presence than children. Thus made a decision to join, I informed my friends about my decision so I patronize this site the most, other times the Y on Sublette Ave, thou pools differ, but prefer Brentwood Y the most.
Since joining I’ve been pleased with the service, since my car accident, plus spinal surgery, swimming has been recommended, likewise enjoy the sauna and steam rooms those three are important for me, and the Y has all three making me happy.
Although Covid caused havoc for all sort of places, so I’m very happy with the reopening of the Fitness Clubs. You will not hear a complaint thus far from me, unless the place seems neglected, which one can’t afford with Covid still very much in existence.
I thank you and all your staff workers for trying to maintain a safe environment for all your members.
Keep up your great work 👍🏼 D R

Prior to joining Mid-County YMCA I had never committed to any formal exercise program. The classes were wonderful ( water aerobics, bar, strength training, and yes Les Mills.) What a wonderful experience every teacher challenged you to do your best and remember why you signed on. Loved, loved, loved, loved, did I say loved, the experience.

You guys do a great job. I do have a couple of suggestions:

Post notes to prevent people from walking wet into the locker room.
Many times, they leave poodles - many of us get paper towels to dry them. Years ago there were signs on the walls asking not to walk wet into the locker room. They took them down to paint and did not replace them.

Ask people to flush the urinals and toilets. It is disgusting when they don't.

Super friendly staff and always family-oriented. I'd rate higher but equipment is not well-maintained and hours are getting less conducive to my ability to attend.

The weight room is terribly small. Everyone attempts to bunch up in one room. They no longer count how many individuals are in the entire unit which is ridiculous considering COVID is still occurring. The gym is always used in the evening and it’s nearly impossible to use.

Some of the staff are friendly. There’s an older guy that gave me a hard time when I couldn’t find the key to my lock. I came to the desk asking him for assistance and he called me a man then tried to correct himself. He was very rude in general.

I have been a member of the Y for many years. My membership at the Mid-County location is roughly about 3 years old. My participation has been really lax over the past several months, so recently decided to pay the center a visit. It was to my surprise that something new had been added. Lots of new fitness equipment an update had been made to the flooring, the welcome counter had been reconfigured. It was a pleasant surprise overall. I was disappointed with myself that I had stayed away so long! Thanks for making the space so renewed and inviting!

I've been going to this Y for almost two years and it's a great facility! It just went through a remodel, so it has a modern feel with the comfort of not being super busy like other 'trendy' gyms. I never have trouble getting onto machines and I never feel intimidated by the crowd. The ONLY complaint I have about this place is that there are often unruly kids on the track, but it is built for all ages so that's somewhat understandable.

The recent renovation has reduced the weight room and increased the space for cardio. This is now a great Y for cardio but bad for weight lifting. Clean and welcoming space. The staff are friendly and helpful and the patrons are overall great, I've never seen any fights or bad attitudes in the weight room and people are willing to spot for you if you need it.

Some of the facilities are older and occasionally need maintenance, but the staff is always super prompt about getting things fixed or operating again, so it never becomes a major issue. Feels safe for LGBTQ+ fam. Closes a bit early on the weekends but I don't mind too much because if you are able to go earlier you can practically have the weight room or pool to yourself.

This location is only 12 minutes away from home. I'm enjoy the water exercise classes which are really helpful with my mobility issues due to hip replacement and arthritis. Loving every moment of retirement and classes at the Y. Looking forward to taking part soon in a swimming class. Keep up the good work.

Don’t get me wrong this is great facility with an an extremely friendly staff but I’m a swimmer and the entire reason I use this location is their incredible lap pool. However, planning my workouts has been virtually useless. I never know when the lap lanes will actually be available. Currently, the CBC boys’ swim team monopolizes all but one of the available lanes Monday thru Friday from 3:30 - 5:30 and then the Y’s swim team moves in and takes over two or three lanes. These are prime member hours for lap usage. Then, unlike any in door pool I’ve ever frequented, they close the pool if there is lightning in the area. I’ve been told that the pool is closed because of staffing issues. So if lap swimming is your thing, you might want to consider a different facility.

I teach at two YMCAs. My favorite happens to be Mid-County. Gary Hirssig, the Health and Wellness Director, is a big part of why I love going there:) He is so, so friendly and caring. If you ask to get something done, it's done fast. No waiting around wondering when you will have a fan to keep you cool while you teach. No worry about having batteries for the mic because there is always extras available. And you don't seek Gary out he seeks you out by coming by while you are teaching and giving a great big friendly wave with a smile to match. Now that's a great Director!

The staff is exceedingly friendly.
Half of the workout equipment is ancient and in need of replacement but does the job except for the dumbbells, some of which are totally missing.
There is so little space in the workout areas that machines are placed dangerously close to one another and it gets, VERY cramped.
The pool, lockerrooms, gym, racquetball courts and indoor track are all kept in very good condition as are the very limited bathrooms.
Having to walk down a narrow gauntlet of naked dudes showering with their shower water bouncing off them onto you in order to get to the pool and back to the lockerroom is obnoxious.
It's way too expensive for the quality of the workout equipment and other facilities but I guess you pay for the flexibility of being able to visit any Y and maybe the daycare services or classes, wish I don't use, personally.

First day at the Brentwood YMCA today since I transferred my Heights membership here due to the renovations that are shutting down the entire pool area. apparently I picked the wrong day to come for the hot tub because the hot tub is closed and cleaned every Tuesday morning however everything else seems nice and apparently all the classes are free including fitness classes, which the heights usually charges for.

The steam rooms are in the individual locker rooms and aren't always on, you have to press a button to turn it on and shut the door. The sauna, in the pool area is very large and nice.
There is a track albeit smaller than what the heights has above the gym area for running.it is slightly curved inward which for some people they might enjoy and for others it may give them vertigo. They do have daycare for anyone needing it, it's probably free but I don't know for sure.
The locker room is remind me of going back to high school, as it is a much older building in the lockers are as well, however it is nice to have them at floor level so I don't have to stand up on a bench to reach stuff I put in the top of a long locker.the shower area is a completely open shower which is different than what the heights has in reference to privacy stalls oh, so for some this may or may not be an issue. Overall I enjoyed my first day and look forward to coming back.
