Ken Welsh has been my coach for a number of years. I got "bit by the bug" after doing the KC WIN triathlon for women. Because of placing well for my age group, I qualified for US Nationals - I wanted help in preparing for that. Ken was so encouraging and taught me so much about how to train, how to use technology to track workouts and fitness, how to show up prepared at the start line, and how to master transitions. After doing some sprints and Olympic distance, I worked up to doing a half-iron in Whistler, CA. Ken helped me reach a bucket list goal - I showed up at the start line, confident that I'd be able to do the distance!

I've had the pleasure of working with Ken Welsh and Midwest Triathlon Coaching since 2018. I'm a busy professional, owning a real estate brokerage and raising 2 teenage boys who are also serious athletes themselves.
Ken undstands combining the necessary training load into a busy life and how to push me as an athlete based on the goals I set for myself. Under his coaching, I have qualified and competed in two 70.3 World Championships and one World Championship in Kona.
Qualifying for Kona was a longtime goal and I completed 10 full Ironmans to get there. Ken always reminded me to be patient and keep working hard. I could not have done it without him!

Ken Welsh and MTC have been a true difference maker for me in triathlon. I started the sport in 2019 and "self-coached" my way to my first 70.3 event finish. I then set my sights higher with the goal of completing my first Ironman in 2020 -- knowing I needed help, I started working with Ken. I found out quickly all of the mistakes I made in training when I coached myself --- Ken's training programs are tailored to individual athlete's needs, for me I desperately needed to improve my Bike performance and through Ken's structured training programs, one-on-one feedback on my form, help with the "mental game", I experienced steady performance improvements. Due to the pandemic, IM Wisconsin (my event) was postponed until 2021 which allowed more time for preparation (which I needed :-) and I arrived on race day confident and crossed the finish line within a few minutes of what Ken and I had planned for in training. The following year 2022, my season highlights included a PR at Steelhead in June-- I beat my previous 70.3 time by 1 Hour and an Age Group win at the 370 Lakeside Triathlon 70.3 in St Louis area. I continue to be a "student" of triathlon, still very early in my journey and learning every day. Could not have done it without Ken's coaching, mentorship and friendship. I also have benefited quite a bit from training with other MTC athletes in MTC sponsored group training settings (e.g. brick sessions at downtown airport, morning virtual group rides, gravel rides, etc.). The MTC community of athletes, led by Ken, is a fun and supportive group. Thanks Ken for all you do!

I highly recommend Ken Welsh and Midwest Triathlon Coaching. I’ve been working with Ken since 2012. I’m proud that Ken has led to my success in local races and qualifications/participation in National and World Championship events through World Triathlon Corporation (Ironman) as well as USA Triathlon events … including this year’s World Championship Event in Ibiza, Spain.
The qualifications and successes are rewarding. But having now just turned sixty, to be fit, healthy, and still in the game – that’s true satisfaction.
Go MTC!

I highly recommend Midwest Triathlon Coaching (MTC) and owner/coach Ken Welsh. MTC takes all the guess work out of my training and develops a personalized plan to help me achieve my goals and remain accountable through my journey.
Ken is a terrific coach and has helped me surpass all my goals while keeping my non-triathlon priorities (family, job, etc.) in mind. Ken is always available if I have questions and educates me on all things triathlon including race day, training and discipline (swim, bike, run) specific strategies, nutrition considerations, science behind the sport, etc.
The community within MTC is awesome and helps make my experience more fun with in-person and virtual opportunities and race day support.
Since working with MTC and Ken I have seen significant improvements in my swim, bike and run times, race performance, confidence and enjoyment of the sport. If you are looking for a triathlon coach, MTC and Ken Welsh are a no-brainer!
