I was happy with my membership at this ymca all the way up until I had to cancel! I moved to a different city so I filled out the cancellation form but I was still charged for another month of membership because I apparently didn’t give 30 days notice of cancelling. This is such a strange rule to have that one would usually find at a job, not a place that offers leisure activities. I will not be able to use any ymca facility for all of November so I’m not happy about this charge. YMCA is a corporate place that receives grants and donations, there’s no need to have to steal from your members like this.

So far truly the worst “fitness club” experience I’ve ever had. Absolutely zero communication between staff to staff so if you have any issues with your account or membership, absolutely good luck having your problem solved. And when you do think that your problem is solved, you will instead be harassed by automated messages telling you to urgently call back to the YMCA regarding your membership because absolutely no one will notate your account as they say they will. Completely disorganized and highly questionable on how they’re still functioning

I will say this that they need to fix is one side of the room on the upstairs track is hot and the other side is cold please keep both sides cold and not the other side hot because it really messes up any runner body temps while running

If you have kids of COLOR DO NOT come to this Y, my children are constantly being targeted by staff and other children, yet MY children are the only ones being targeted and blamed for bad behavior! The childcare staff is mostly the age of 25 and under, come on now if your going to hire people hire EXPERIENCED caregivers! Not single Young adults with ABSOLUTELY NO Experience! That are IGNORANT to how to deal with children! UNDER QUALIFIED to even care for babies and toddlers! MY children was getting “written up” for “hitting a kid”… my children will not put their hands on ANYONE unless they were hit first… I ask my child what happened right in front of the childcare giver he says he was hit by other kid first, that’s why he protected himself … BUT MY CHILD GOT “Written up” for this! She states “oh I didn’t know that” because she didn’t care to ask, she didn’t care about my child! She didn’t even bother to get his side of the story! NOT family friendly. Lots of problems here, and they never get fixed. "NO PHONES" in locker rooms, saunas, anywhere people might undressed is NOT ENFORCED, not at all. One day a woman had literally set up a Zoom meeting with a 2-way video call IN THE LOCKER ROOM with seniors and children changing their clothes all around her. This week, my roommate saw a woman laying in the locker room, pointing her phone camera in all directions. My friend said "no phones in changing areas," and the offender started harassing my friend and trying to get her banned from the gym, for telling the OFFENDER to respect the "no phones in changing areas" policy.

As another reviewer said, no rules are enforced in work out areas either: people sitting on machines NOT using them but instead on their phones, with a full gym, and refusing to let others use the machines. People NEVER wipe their sweat off. People stay on the cardio machines for over an hour, bc the staff doesn't enforce the 30 minutes rule. Impossible to run on the track either, because again their are zombies on the track staring at their phones but walking 3 people across so no one gets around them.

I don't know what the staff is paid to do, bc some people come in and just break every rule, hindering others from fair use of areas, right to privacy when changing, etc. BUT THE STAFF DOES NOTHING at all, so the rude people just rule this place. Embarrassing for a supposed community center.

Shady membership practices. You should be able to cancel your membership like it's a Netflix subscription. I called to have it cancelled, they said it was cancelled. I got charged for that month still...so I called to verify it was cancelled. They said yes it's cancelled but you have to pay for the next month when you cancel. (Doesn't make sense but I said okay) Next month roles around and I see I've been charged again. I just got off the phone and asked them to cancel AGAIN. They said I had to pay this month but won't be charged again next month... We'll see.

The kids pool area is rarely open during the hours it is supposed to be, due to being understaffed.

This is a direct reflection on the leadership. The wonderful staff are also suffering and telling us to leave comments in the suggestions box. The donors/board should look into this.

Membership prices have gone up along with the disappointments.

All memberships should be discounted until full services are restored during the times they should be available and the website should be updated daily to notify of which services/activities will not be available.

I was recently traveling to Springfield Missouri area. I’m planning on moving there in a few years once I retire.didn’t want to miss my workouts and so I Looked around at the local gyms, i.e. Planet Fitness YMCA among other places. Pat Jones YMCA offers out of town first timers a free workout. It was so great that I was willing to pay $12 to visit the next day! Not only does it have new state of the art equipment, which I can Bluetooth my iPhone, too, it has an amazing pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room. Even the ladies locker room was amazing, Equipped with couches, hairdryers everywhere and lots of showers for the busy times which I imagine will happen in such a great facility like that.. I live in upstate New York and I’m not saying that the YMCA is bad but it certainly doesn’t compare to Pat Jones YMCA in Springfield. Besides all the amenities, it was clean! I always saw people walking around picking up and they even Have towels available so that you can wipe down your equipment when you’re done. They took the guest work out of where I’m going to be working out when I move. And they even accept silver sneakers program. I was greeted by Blake at the front desk who was just as friendly as everybody else I saw there.If I could give it 10 stars I would.

I had my child registered for soccer and he had a great time, but even getting information ahead of registration was difficult. Because he enjoyed it, we signed him up for a second session for basketball starting 11.02.2024. Zero communication, can’t get an email response for any of the registration, and now have called 4 times for a refund since the session started 11.02.2024 with absolutely zero follow up. We have requested a refund that we will likely never see. Waste of time and money.

My family and I have been going to The Y now for 3 months. There have been and have continued to be the same problems. People not cleaning the machines, people playing gaming or using social media while on equipment, children underage playing on equipment and track, and final staff lazily sitting playing on their phones, hitting on fellow staff, or just plan doing nothing. But on the good side, plenty of clean towels.

I took my girls to the YMCA to play basketball. I went to the front desk and from the beginning the staff was very disrespectful. A girl named Cherry was helping us and she was very disrespectful and rude. I had asked to sign the waiver and she was so disrespectful and made the whole thing much more complicated than it had to be. The questions I had she couldn’t answer and she was very rude about the whole situation in general. I will not being going there anymore. I definitely will not be buying anymore yearly membership for my 4 girls.

It was important to me to raise my sons in a place where nudity was no big deal. They altered the mens showers to have walls and curtains now, since we need to now be the generation that is shy and hides our body.

Really disappointing they caved to some demand that someone had. Part of going to the Y is going for the old school experience. Not anymore. Now you get the shy modest experience of raising shy boys.

I have been part of places where there were a lot of dividers and it made the creepy behavior go up 1000 times as much (it gives people room to get away with a lot more). It really sucks that another place caved and did this.

The pros are that it's a nice place with clean facilities. The have tons of activities available and offer any class you could want to take. The employees are also very friendly. The biggest con I can find is that it's really hard to just go in and workout because there are limited weight machines. This wouldn't be an issue expect people tend to sit on the machines while on their phones. And they're not just changing the song in their playlist. I have mentioned it, but the staff didn't seem to concerned. I hate that I have to find another gym because it's so close to my office and my home. If you're looking for a family focused health center with lots of activities for the kids, this is definetly for you.

I do love what the YMCA provides for the community, with all the different activities for the kids and their families! My fiancé and I go to use basketball court, the weights and machines upstairs, and occasionally the pool, and it provides us with everything that we need! There is a great variety of classes and activities to chose from. In particular the aqua excise classes. The only negative is the majority of classes are before 1:00 pm M-F. If evening or late afternoon classes were the focus, the Y would be perfect.

We've had our kids in swim lessons here for a few years, and been very happy. The aquatic center staff is friendly and professional, and there isn't much turnover which is a huge relief after our experience at diventures.

Update: after increasing yearly dues a few times we talked to our regular swim instructor for the kids and learned that they hadn't had a raise in several years. Immediately cancelled membership. I'm happy to pay for annual increases, but not without corresponding pay raises for the staff.

Not surprised considering the individuals who poorly run this place.
Also, they contract out their photos with a very unprofessional company called fotojenics.
Don't waste your money buying pictures from them.
Not only are the pictures horrible, their customer service is worse!
Don't leave an honest review with Jen, she will get butt hurt and have her friends attempt to bash you and your children.
That's not even speaking about how poorly she takes photos, knows nothing about cropping or editing and places tacky backgrounds in the photos.
The Pat Jones YMCA needs to get their act together.

Poorly ran by individuals in 2021 who are very unorganized.
I would not recommend anyone placing their children into any of their programs until they are ran by individuals better fit for positions like these.
The Springfield Park Board is definitely a better place for sports and fitness in Springfield, Mo.

I have been a member of this gym for a few years. I enjoy working out here. Recently I hired a personal trainer Derek Colbert. He was a excellent training. Explained things well and gave me exactly what I was looking for in a trainer. I was already going to the gym but needed help with my form and some good exercises to help me to do more then just cardio. He was a great encouragement and support. I would recommend him for personal training to all my personal friends or family.

I am usually on business when I come to this establishment. Even tho I am there for a professional nature. The ladies are quick to greet me. Make sure that I k how where I am going and that the staff member I am there is aware of my presence. When I am done with my service they make the same effort to find the member of management requied for the task I completed. If they are this helpful for me in making sure I am taken care of, there patrons have to be treated with equal care. Thank yall for the service.

The prices are great I will say that. They even have a sliding scale where you just fill out paper work and it doesn't take too long for them to get back to you. The downfall in my opinion is the childrens sports are lead by parents who don't REALLY teach kids about team work, the actual sport, and can and do play favoritism. I also DO NOT like the fact that ANYONE can walk in and watch a kids soccer game. This DOES NOT feel safe...people are weird and crazy these days....it's not worth the risk in my opnion. But if you're looking for a place to work out that offers adult classes, this place is wonderful....of course planet fitness is open 24/7 and cheaper but no classes....also cox hospital has a gym too that does offer classes...is nicer...might be worth checking into instead of here.

I was really disappointed. I am from Florida and belong to a great Y there. Visiting family I was excited to have a Nationwide Y to go to. I'm at my Y 6 days a week. The spin bikes were so old that they were falling apart. My handlebars actually came out, no way to really control tension accurately. The exercise equipment was not available, shut down due to remodeling. I was told not to use. My Y in Florida is amazing, this Y is sadly in need of repair.
