I traveled to St Louis to visit family for Thanksgiving and joined a silent 75-minute practice on Thanksgiving morning. Ellen and Kara were so gracious in welcoming me and making me comfortable when they could have just as easily closed the doors to outsiders for this donation-based community class.

A 56-person class on Thanksgiving morning speaks to the strength of the community on its own, but I will add that EVERYONE seemed to know EVERYONE and the room was full of energy and warmth. Such a great vibe.

It was a beautiful experience and I am grateful to have been included. I will certainly be back to Pure Hot when I return to St Louis!

I have been coming to PHY for a few years now. It was my first and only experience with hot yoga, and I experienced a number of noticeable benefits from it.

This last weekend, I was in another town on holiday and went to a local hot yoga studio that came highly recommend. It was a mediocre disappointment.

Not that the other studio did anything "wrong", but PHY has set my standards so high for what to expect from a yoga studio. The facilities are immaculate, the heat of the room is intense but perfect for the practice, the restrooms are clean. The professionalism, knowledge and teaching ability of the staff is top notch. Corrections are filled with data but never overbearing. Every student is greeted by name when they walk in. The standard PHY holds their staff, and their students, to is elite.

Students of every level practice in the same class, but nobody is ever late, people are always quiet and respectful during poses, the room is completely tech free, and the communal respect that both the students and instructors have for the practice brings the room into a focus that few other yoga studios can match.

They have several instructors here, and each have very different teaching styles. If you don't enjoy your first time, I absolutely recommend trying again with a different teacher.

Thank you PHY for setting my standards so high, and being a great place to sweat.

3 years ago I had a spinal injury that was truly devastating to me as an athlete. After years of trying to recover and get back to distance running, I have found Pure Hot Yoga. While I was initially scared to try yoga after my injury, I am so happy I found the courage to walk through the door and try. The instructors are so kind and welcoming-always willing to offer alternatives for poses that may not work for my body or injury.

I’m not a person who typically writes reviews, however after riding horses with my daughter for over two hours this weekend, I am truly amazed at the strength I’ve built in my spine, core, and spirit. The practice at PHY is truly as transformative as they say it is.

I have been a part of this studio since they opened and have practiced this style of yoga for 40+ years. I have taken brief breaks through the years but always find my way back home. Absolutely the best. Keeps me energetic and flexible in every single way. Silver sixties and strong!

The best hot yoga in Saint Louis. If you’re a first timer reading this- do not be intimidated by the hot portion of class. You can do it and the teachers do such a great job leading you through class.

If you’re experienced, you will be challenged and will certainly learn something new.

All of the teachers are so great and the environment is so kind and welcoming.

Try it out!!

A great workout and moving meditation.

Welcoming, passionate and compassionate instruction.

Clearly they're doing something right, they've been here over 20 years.

I love this studio. So grateful it exists in my community <3

The original 90 class was a challenging workout, but it was not yoga at all. I regularly attend hot yoga at other studios. This instructor was very controlling. She offered lots of corrections, which at times were helpful but not when I was modifying the pose to accommodate my own body. In several poses, she instructed us to “lock our knees” (which is unsafe) and would NOT move on until EVERYONE did so. She dictated when we could and could not drink water. She did not allow me to take a child’s pose when I needed rest. When I took savasana, she forced me to get up and turn around. She asked me to remove my watch (which is fine), but ironically, her own watch set off an audible notification. I found the class to be extremely rigid, very not yoga to me. I left the class feeling more stressed (and honestly frustrated) rather than relaxed.
Also, the studio smelled bad and just generally felt dirty to me.

Before class started, I was ordered, by name & in front of the entire class, to put my “towel” on my mat. It was my sweater that I wore in to the studio.
There was another person with an actual towel and another person with a sweater like me, but I was the only person addressed. I’m not sure why I was singled out. Just an odd situation…

Pure hot yoga has been awesome! The customer service is great, and the staff is so nice. You can tell Ellen is really good at what she does, and the other instructors as well. It feels like a tight community when you go there, and it feels like we’re all on the same page of just doing there, getting our butt kicked for 1hr and then sharing our experience afterward. I recommend pure hot yoga because the service is above and beyond!!

I have attended 22 hot yoga classes over the past 60 days at this yoga studio and the benefits have been AMAZING. I am stronger and taller. My muscles are becoming toned and my posture is improved. I do not have any back pain and I sleep better. I have lost 12 lbs!! I'm the most flexible I have been in 25+ years. I can breathe more deeply and hold my breath for longer. My skin is clearer, all of the sweating has really been good for my skin. The workouts have been life changing. I have always been greeted with warmth and enthusiasm at the studio and made to feel welcome. The workout is challenging, I've been going to the 60minute hot yoga which is a 26-2 hot yoga workout. I highly recommend going consistently so you can experience the benefits. There is no pressure or shaming that happens when taking a rest on the mat during the workout, I have spent portions of the class laying on my back resting. It is ok to simply take a rest during the class and then reengaging once ready. Give it a try for 60 days, I'm 100% confident you will feel so much better and will be mindblown by your results.

I’ve been coming to Pure Hot Yoga off and on for 12 years, but the past two years I’ve been really consistent. The staff are knowledgeable and PASSIONATE about this practice, their students, and creating an inclusive and compassionate community. The heat used to intimidate me and now I crave being in the hot room and I leave class feeling alive and invigorated. They have a variety of classes and you’ll be challenged whether you’re a beginner or have practiced for years. The lobby before and after class is the most supportive environment I’ve ever been in. The teachers aren’t only supportive of the students, but each other as well. 10/10 recommend PHYSTL.

This studio is incredibly welcoming with an amazing group of personable and knowledgeable instructors. The laid back vibe of this studio will make anyone feel welcome! When you hear people talk about white people ruining yoga, I think this place could be an example of what they’re talking about. I took one class here in 2019. I still can’t erase the term “SWEAT-IQUETTE” from my memory, the instructor used it so many times telling folks to stop drinking water during a hot yoga class. I blacked out in the first twenty minutes of class; the instructor brought be two huge bottles of water and I stayed in class and kept going, and I really appreciate that she brought me the water, but don’t they see that their practice and policies completely lack compassion? Not letting people drink when they need to drink, losing their minds when people leave the room, like, what?? And I remember them selling extremely expensive clothes on the wall with their brand plastered on the front— the whole thing is so far removed from the principles and practice of yoga, and it’s just like any other toxic gym. You can find more authentic yoga practice on YouTube before going here. Two stars because the instructor bought me water and didn’t charge me for them, even though they were like $5 each. Please stop colonizing yoga.

It's a shame that yoga is becoming more and more diluted as time passes. I've practiced here before (I used to practice Bikram) when I was in town, and it's a nice studio. But, in order to cater to the busy, busy, busy masses who still want to do 'yoga' because it's trendy, they have shortened the class to 60 minutes. Typical of many modern studios. I just got back from 4 months in India and not one class was 60 minutes. If you're looking for exercise then this might be great for you. I won't be coming here to practice.

WHAT A GREAT FEELING! I came to class in a frazzled huff. My mind wasn't ready. My body didn't feel ready. But when I entered the hot room, that outer layer of doubt melted away. Hilary led us through the series and I found my body cooperating and then leveling up to my mood, which was improving with each droplet of sweat, each millimeter of flexibility. I've been a member for over 12 years and still, each class I take offers me something new. This yoga is one of the most satisfying experiences for me and I would say to anyone who might be on the fence about coming to class: COME TO CLASS! It's a great practice just wish this wasn't the only studio. They run it like, they know it is the only bikram place closest to the city. The guy instructors are cool and most of the other instructors. One bad apple particularly is the woman with the sides shaved off of her head. I come to decompress and she went spastic in class over me leaving my spot to get tissue. She was in the back of the class and I was less than 10ft from the tissue. She's crazy about you wearing a watch too! Other instances but, not to bad. Shaved head is the most condescending passive aggressive so unnecessary. I definitely made that incident my last. I was jacked for the rest of the month. I lost money because it's a "no instructor might be wrong policy". I understand the rules because, I went on south grand to bikram for years with no incidents. I miss them! For $100 plus a month and a bad relation. I'd rather be fat and stiff and invest my money elsewhere until another bikram open in the city limits.

I’ve been attending classes for the past few weeks and it’s been my favorite yoga studio. I’ve attended other hot yoga studios, and have found the classes distracting with music and frills. Pure Hot sticks to the more traditional bikram method which I like!

As a contrast to the more still and regimented yoga class, they also have the IHP Pilates class which has music and is a lot of fun. It includes high intensity interval training and is an amazing a full body workout. I love attending both classes.

This studio has really gone above and beyond during the pandemic to ensure yoga classes were available and safe. The instructors really care and have so much passion about yoga and fitness. The culture and climate of this studio is hyper-critical, rude, and lacks support. The yogis amke it a point to call out people in class and use humiliation as an instructional strategy. I've been a client for probably 8 years, diehard Bikram yogi. But I am aging and having some problems. I was injured in April, 2019. My only way out is yoga and strength training. So today I did my first Hot Pilates class. Carol, one of the owners came in early for me and modified the postures so I didn't hurt myself and worked out next to me! She's a great workout buddy. Becky taught the class. I never thought I would love anything as much as the Bikram series. I love Hot Pilates just as much. Becky was an amazing teacher and so much fun. Carol gave me the confidence to move forward on my own. I feel loved and supported by everyone. I have been practicing at this studio since 2017, and I now can't imagine my yoga life without it. In the past seven months this practice has contributed to my physical healing, helping to repair my knees after a lifetime of distance running and correcting a wrist injury. One of the best qualities of Pure Hot is the different style of each instructor despite the same layout of postures. I have brought beginner friends who had not previously practiced the bikram-inspired style, and they mentioned how the workout's intensity was enhanced by the instructor enthusiasm and support. This is not your traditional hatha class-- we need an energetic and powerful teacher if we want to do the work to see changes to our bodies. My favorite result of practicing at this studio, next to the sense of community, is the psychological lift I feel after every class. I enthusiastically recommend Pure Hot!

Best studio in town. Teachers and staff know who you are, what your goals are, and how to help you. Its a community at the studio and not just a workout place. And they have yoga veterans and first timers in every class. And you always get a great sweat!!!

I practiced here, still do, then trained to be a teacher here, and now teach here. Yoga to the People has made such a positive influence in my life. Thank you.

Favorite yoga studio in St. Louis! The staff is very nice, helpful and professional, the place is super neat and clean, and the yoga style is one that allows the student to see physical, mental & emotional benefits almost immediately!

The class was pretty good but the studio is in need of an update and needs to be thoroughly cleaned. I think shoes should be removed when you enter the door as once you take your shoes off you track through where everyone has walked to get into the yoga studio. The shower/bathroom area desperately needs to be freshened up.

Wanted desperately to continue but I was unimpressed with the "dictators" that taught class. I am all for rules but they make such a big deal about leaving the room IT IS RIDICULOUS. What is so irrational about this is that the instructors don't think or take the time to know about an individuals chronic health condition were the practice of Bikram is allowed but every person should listen to their body. Can you say liability? I stopped going after 3 classes bc I didnt feel like getting yelled at from a crabby, militant instructor. I am sure they could care less if they lose people, with the explanation of "us" being "weak." #BS Btw I make it my mission to tell any person that says the word yoga, not frequent your totalitarian yoga studio. :-(

So the thing I don't like the most about this place is how strict instructors are about the rules, and they will continuously call you out in front of the entire class if you mess up. For example, when I first started, they said you can only leave the room for emergencies like throwing up. I had to throw up so I went out to the restroom. The instructor stated the rule again when I re-entered, and then pulled me aside after class to restate the rules and ask why I left. I'm not 5 years old. They will call you out if you drink water at the wrong time, sit at the wrong time, etc. Super strict! I didn't find any benefits from bikram hot yoga besides more energy after doing it, but to me it was just expensive, made me feel sick, and took a lot of time. I'm doing warm yoga at a less strict studio now and I love it.

I love the studio of Pure Hot Yoga St. Louis!!!! The instructors and staff are "top-notch". They care about you. You become part of their family. You are a person;not a number or "just a body". They want you to be healthy;they want to help you with your yoga;they want to improve your poses;they just care.........Weather you are taking your class for the first time or have been coming for years does not matter.....This studio and all of the people affiliated with the studio are kind, caring, thoughtful people who care and help. I feel most fortunate to have come across this studio and these people. It has been 4(+) years and I am a better person physically, emotionally, and mentally because of this yoga and these people. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!! Dr. John W. Tabash

This is a great studio with outstanding instructors. I travel back and forth from California and always enjoy my practice there. I really appreciate the detailed, experienced instruction. I have practiced with every instructor over the past year and all of them are excellent. Nothing like working out and feeling strong in the hot room!

I'm now 3 classes in, and I could not be happier with Pure Hot Yoga. The venue is clean, the space is large enough to accomodate everyone comfortably, and the instructors are awesome. The first class was SO difficult; but the vibe is so positive and the class works with and alongside you to encourage you to do your best. :)

Hot Sweaty Yoga. I love this studio - It is a nurturing and healthy place to practice yoga in the hot room. I love the 26 postures and discipline it uses to improve yourself. Truly, I used to go to a chiropractor at least twice a year, and since I've been doing the poses of tree, cobra, rabbit, camel, and just breathing, there has been no need. I appreciate the fact that there is limited jewelry, perfume, talking and drinking water between postures. There is a certain discipline that comes with this practice. It is best to be hydrated with lots of water before you come into the room and also to come on an empty stomach (better not to eat two hours before practicing.)
It is also an excellent core workout..

I enjoy these yoga classes because for 90 minutes all I must do is focus on myself and improve my poses to the best of my ability. The teachers - Erin, Carol, Charles, JJ, Taryn, and others, are very, very motivational and help push you to your limits!

I have been practicing Yoga in many places around the world and I LOVE Bikram Yoga STL for the following:

- Level/Quality of the teachers: EXCELENT. Yoga is about discipline, listening and breathing. If you are not up for that...and you want to have your own agenda, leave the postures or drinking water whenever you want...then try something else. The rest of the group will appreciate..a matter of respect. Teachers are disciplined and professional

- Friendly environment: EXCELENT. The entire team makes you feel like at home, celebrating your success and supporting you when the practice was not great. It is great the way they deal with the class... making it fun... and caring and lovable.

- Price: there are plenty of options. If you want to try one month it is SUPER CHEAP. If you want to practice regularly..options are really affordable. Like any other business...the more loyal you are and the more times you go... the cheapest it gets.

- Facilities: I read somewhere filthy? I can't be OK with that. I will never practice in a unhealthy environment. The hot room is in perfect state. The changing rooms are correct and very very clean.
It is like traveling in economy or in first class. If you want champaign and someone doing your bed...then you'll have to pay for it. Honestly, I don't think this is necessary.

- Classes Schedule: Plenty of options

- Socially engaged: there are plenty of activities where we can participate and make this world better: blood donations and fundrise classes among them.

- Pet friendly: If you hate pets, then better find another studio. We love pets there. It is great to see a (foster) puppy face and a dacing tail at the front desk. Makes you smile. Isn't it awesome?

But again, if you want to be part of something apart of getting the awesome benefits of the practice... that is the place... if not... then maybe that is not for you.

I have been living in STL for a year and I feel much better since I am part of the studio's family. :-)

Beautiful, clean studio. Friendly, extremely knowledgeable and supportive instructors who explain how to do the poses according to your level of flexibility. Yes, there are rules, but ask about and understand the important reasons behind each of these rules. The rules are in place keep you safe/healthy, to help you get 100 percent of the benefits and to be respectful of others in the room. It is a long, hot and demanding practice which requires focus and stillness (which is what I love about it!), so if someone were to do their own stretches, move around a lot or drink during poses, it can be very distracting. There is also an energy that comes when everyone in the room is focused and moving together. I can't live without it!

This studio is the best. The people are friendly, it's clean and well run. The staff is super friendly and really helpful to a newbie. I read through some of the negative reviews from the past and whatever may have been going on in the past, definitely isn't going on now. This is the place to go if you want to have a fantastic experience!

I would like to begin this review by indicating that I have practiced Bikram for 7 years now in various cities including Atlanta, NYC, and Arlington (VA). I now live in St. Louis and was pretty excited to practice at the Clayton location because of its proximity to my new apartment. This is the most expensive and overrated Bikram studio I have ever practiced at. The facilities are filthy -- very dirty bathroom stalls, mildew in showers, grimy floors, and overly soaked carpets. Of course there will be sweat pervading a Bikram yoga studio, but this place takes it to an extreme. It is incredibly unsanitary! They should really consider just stripping the place of carpet and wash the floors between classes.

Staff is incredibly rude. Instructors do not learn students' names - calling them by their shirt color or other nickname they find cute ("ponytail girl," "yellow shirt," "indian girl," etc.). It is insulting for a student to not have an identity! Also, many people practice Bikram yoga to overcome ailments. The instructors here refuse to understand that, continuously pushing people beyond physical capability. It is unreal!

The dirtiness and rudeness will keep me away. I do NOT recommend this studio.

HORRIBLE place, HORRIBLE, energy, WAY to over priced.

And to add insult to injury, they will turn you away from the door if you are not 15 min. early to practice. I had to come back for their "Orientation" which told me NOTHING I didn't already know. And even though I told them I'd been practicing for YEARS, they called me a liar. Actually their words were "Not that you are a liar, but a lot of new people lie." I have practiced in 11 states, and they were the WORST studio I've ever been to.
