Need to update the Gym schedule online faster. People waste their time driving. Front desk is great and just relaying info while others seem non chalant about it as if it doesnt matter.

It's one of the bigger gym areas of the Y's, but it doesnt have as many child activity amenities as say River chase. We've really enjoyed our membership and will keep coming!

I would like to give this Y a better review but I can’t. Between the this YMCA not having the facilities that others have like the hot tub or steam room and children running around in the gym workout area running into people it is truly disappointing. But what really made me give them a one star review was being called during my workout on my last day of the membership being told I was not allowed to be in the facility. I was paid up through the last day of the month and the system beeped me in but this rude lady called me to tell me that I wasn’t allowed. It was rude, unprofessional and unacceptable to treat me like I was doing something wrong.

This YMCA isn’t set up for handicap persons . While they have shower benches they’re always being used to store individuals clothes and not for the showers. The only warm shower is the handicap shower therefore it’s always in use by non handicap persons. The universal changing rooms are tied up by older women lap swimming leaving no bathrooms to use. The staff laugh and tell you to just go into the rooms where the individuals leave their belongings. When I brought It to the attention of Barb the life guard she attacked me verbally stating the women were old and can do what they want. Not a good place for handicap otherwise nice place to work out.

Just participated in Silver Sneakers Yoga class with Teacher Crystal Lawrence. First post-pandemic return to the Y. Fun and inspiring class led by a great fitness educator who verbally instructs and demonstrates how to successfully perform the moves, while reinforcing the need to listen to YOUR body and modify the intensity as needed.

Upon entering the studio,Miss Linda (a delightful Y Volunteer and classmate) greeted and welcomed me to the class.
Thanks for an encouraging first class.

Really disappointed in this experience. We signed up for a swim lesson for our three year old. We got there and they walked us to the pool area, but the help stopped there. No one gave us a tour or explained what to expect. I had to walk up to a couple different swim instructors until I found the right class. There was no run-down of what to expect, so I showed up in my swimsuit, but then looked around and saw no other parents in their swimsuits. The instructor expected my child to get in the pool and it was clear she didn’t know how to coax her in, which was surprising since it was called “Water acclimation.” One of the kids started going under and swallowed too much water. Her dad had to come over and rescue her because the instructor didn’t notice. After the lesson, there was a co-ed locker room we had to use to change clothes. We haven’t been back since and no one from the Y has reached out to inquire as to why. I would not recommend this to any parents. We went to Goldfish Swim today and it was an entirely different experience. Go there if you want swim lessons!

Martin Caupp is apparently the director at this location and is utterly rude and condescending. I came in on the 23rd of a month to cancel my membership and he informed me that it is corporate policy that after the 20th of a month, you have to pay for an entire extra month!! What kind of policy is this? It is a clear ploy to gain an entire extra month of payment. It is 2025, everything is online. He said "I don't make the policy I just enforce them, like he is a cop! It's they Y, I want to cancel and now I have to pay for an entire extra month.
The guy was rude arrogant and should not represent the Y.

I like the location because it's a few minutes from my lodge. I like the new family showers, but they have no panic button. You can imagine the workout and showers with a stroke or heart attack and no way to get help. I'll risk it. Good handicapped parking lot and parking. It's not bad after snow and ice on 21 February 2025 but beware.

YMCA's are a no brainer when compared to other gyms. Where else are you going to get a full gym, recreational sports, a lap pool, steam room, and locker room/showers all for a low price of $50 for a young couple? Something similar in the STL area will cost you $120+ per person (I've checked everywhere). That being said, why can we not implement some hygienic protocols that other nations have? In Korea you must take off your shoes before entering the locker room. There are men walking fully clothed with Nikes carrying dirt from God knows where into the steam room. One reviewer said there was a condom in the shower, and I have seen some questionable substances on the floors as well... And please, if you are a man attending the YMCA locker room, do not stare at other men whether they are fully undressed or not. It is extremely uncomfortable and you are ruining the experience for many. The locker room is meant to be a place to get clean and dressed comfortably, and the sauna is meant to relax and unwind - it is impossible to do if you are staring at me the entire time... So, South County YMCA, please implement some rules for the men's locker room and I can gladly give you 5 stars. I really do love the availability of this place and all of its amenities, but some things are just too much to ignore.

This is a liberal place. just like our pathetic, liberal government. Here are my experiences: spotted a used condom in the men’s shower, watched a young black woman kicking a powered, 50 foot extension cord through a steel door only 3 feet from me submerged in the pool, the only rule is no cussing, but neither Patrick or Martin wanted to do anything about the guy cussing me after his spitting on the steam room control, and me not closing the door fast enough to suit him. The maintenance guy left both his doors open, exposing me naked in the shower to some females office. Two of my T-shirts were stolen out of my bag in the locker room while I was swimming.

My daughter uses the y care program through her school, and this is the only after school childcare option built into the school. With the lack of other options, the directors have made sure to gouge as much money out of parents as possible. I will preface that the people running y care with the kids at school and at camps do a fantastic job. They’re very compassionate and great with the kids. In a perfect world, the support team the parents are stuck dealing with should be equally as compassionates and helpful, yet here we are.

I pay over $200+ a month for after care. Is there a two week school break during that month? If so, y care is still 250 for that month, even though there’s only two weeks of care available. Any inclimate weather mid school day and y care is cancelled, no refund or financial modification for the last minute cancellation.
Early release days? they want even more money, and it’s an additional signup dance to go through.

For the monthly dues there’s oddly no requirement for auto pay. But for early release days there is auto pay. With this, they have a recharge fee in their auto system, so if your payment doesn’t go through the first time, they’ll charge you more the second time.

I reached out and briefly explained my situation, and the timestamps of the original charge were only hours apart from their auto pay try. Nevertheless, the director fell back on the “third party system does it so we can’t do anything” like we aren’t in 2024 and can’t manipulate systems to do what is right.

What’s great too is if you don’t pay that extra $25 recharge fee, they threatened to have your kid removed from the program. The monthly dues are paid, but we’re getting threatened to be tossed over a recharge fee.

This review is for the Child Watch. The YMCA has been a great resource for parents with kids that need time to workout. They provide 3hrs Child Watch. Keep in mind that they do not feed them, neither change diapers (other YMCAs, do change the diapers with your permission). I always leave his water bottle with his name on a label, cause I found that is neglect to leave a child without hydration for 3hrs straight while they are constantly active playing.

I have visit several Saint Louis YMCAs and this one is in my top 5.

The good:
Staff is very nice and approachable. I love the fact that is in the main hallway and has windows, so in between workouts you can pass by and take a peek and check out your kid. I always wonder what my kid do during Child Watch and I was able to checking him out.

The not that good:
It's only one room for all the ages. The staff was carrying the babies and the older kids were in the same room as well. They do have equipment for babies, but it doesn't have a division like others YMCAs (Carondelet and River Chase). They have the room door closed, so there's no "outside" ventilation. Which didn't like in case any kid is sick, seems like a capsule of germs.
They don't have the Child Watch hours posted on the door, like others YMCAs, so you have to check the schedule on their website.

When I first started this YMCA there were mostly just locals coming in, but now there are other social groups from other areas of Saint Louis coming in leaving weights on bars, not cleaning up their area before leaving...VERY RUDE!
Maybe they should stop giving out so many free vouchers for those groups?
Just a thought.

We honestly just started a membership and the only thing we've used thus far is the pool. It's very clean and easily accessible. It's a very well kept place from what I can tell. The only issue I have had in the few visits we have made is one particular, much older, lifeguard. The first two times, the guards on duty got a kick out of my son doing cannonballs and belly flops but, not this dude, he had a scowl on his face and is extremely whistle happy. He seems to be dead set on being a stick in the mud!! He literally blew his whistle at every little thing that people did today and was pretty ignorant about it. Aside from that jerk, everyone else that works there we've encountered is very very friendly.

Had a great discount as a disabled iraq veteran for myself and my family. Now I've looked into coming back with a membership for just myself and found that I'd be paying the same or more then when I had the family membership. They cut the veteran discount down to a low flat percent discount. I guess that's one way to save money. Couple that with terrible weekend hours, early closing hours, then I see no reason to come here. I'll work out in my basement or go somewhere else.

This facility is beautiful after the remodel! The core and functional room is great, especially the turf. And they’ve recently added an assault runner which is a great addition to their cardio equipment.

You can find my family and I at the South County Y almost daily! Our kiddos participate in SO many activities, from swimming to soccer to basketball to their competitive cheer team, this Y has so much to offer! What we love most about the Y is the staff that work with the children. The child watch/hub staff took the time to get to know our kids. They are caring and interact with the kids! It's so much more than 'babysitting' while we workout! The cheer team coaches are amazing too! They care SO much about the girls on the team. They make it a point to send out special birthday messages to every girl, celebrate achievements (above getting a new skill), and support the girls when they are struggling.

Besides being a great place for our children, this Y has introduced us to some wonderful new friends! Some of our closets friends are friends we've met at the Y!

I called again today to make sure if I come after work, that they will be there and I can cancel, then she says I need to cancel before the 20th of each month otherwise the next month will be counted!!! This place is very outdated. Equipment is old, space looks and feels old. Weight area is okay. Location very much caters to an older crowd. It is worth the drive up 55 to the Carondelet location. UPDATE - Changes have been made, new multiple functional area added with new equipment! All weights have been replaced with new weights and got rid of the mismatched odd weights. Gym area is starting to feel bigger and better. Still no TV's in the weight room and no music which makes it feel weird because it is quiet.

I recently had my membership on hold due to the pandemic. I only go to the South County YMCA for the Racquetball courts but as soon as they started up my membership they take away a court to use as storage for construction. When I called to find out why they didn't simply rent a pod to store their other things they didn't have an answer. They are poorly managed and have no thought for their members. I don't see why anyone would keep a membership there. It's 4 times what a normal gym membership is only to be treated like they could care less if you use their facility. Just sad.

The reason this place gets 1 star is because of the customer service! We were up there for 45 mins to an hour. There was a African American gentleman there named Rowland who did absolutely NOTHING! he was lounging in his chair chilling the whole time. Nobody was in front of us and we waited to be called to the counter for help. After about 5 minutes we walked to the counter. Again we were away from the counter cause the sticker for COVID told us where to stand. When we got to the counter he didn’t acknowledge us or say anything answered the phone and sat on it. We then walked over to an AWESOME individual named Josh who helped us as fast as he could to get memberships. During this time Rowland got off the phone strolled on over and said “I don’t want to work here anymore”! Didn’t ask if he could HELP! didn’t apologize for ignoring us, but went back to his seat to sit on his butt. Josh continued to work by himself getting us squared away. After about 45 min to an hour we said don’t worry about it and walked out cause he was getting killed by himself. The gentleman named Rowland should not be working there if he doesn’t want to be there. That YMCA is putting him as the first contact to show what the YMCA is I feel bad! He’s terrible and we will not be back! Josh you are awesome and deserve a raise for how hard you worked. We watched as he tackled 3 different groups all by himself and Rowland do nothing! Even when a lady came he pushed her off on him. Smh the guy needs to GO! Hire someone who cares and has customer service.

I’ve only lived nearby for about a month and have been blown away by the people at this facility. They go above and beyond to get to know you and ensure that you have a good experience. It feels like a second home! Cannot recommend enough!

I was pleased with the staff member that assisted me during the tour and sign up process. My issue with this location is the facilities. The building truly needs a renovation. The pool is small as well as the workout room. Another issue with the workout room is the policy of signing up/reserving a spot to use a machine. I think it's an annoyance to people that pay $50 a month for a membership. I signed up at this location since it was nearby but haven't returned after a second visit. I frequent another location instead.

Coach Jess Carlson, leading our Studio All-Stars dance team, has been such a blessing to our daughter! Under her leadership, our daughters passion for dance and dedication to a team has dramatically increased. Our daughter comes home from school each day either being excited she has dance that evening, or disappointed she doesn’t have practice scheduled that night ; ) Coach Jess is a wonderful role model, and works so hard to share her passion and talent with the team.

Awesome for families and actually getting your kids involved and not just playing video games in child watch. Dance program outstanding. Dance instructor Jessica Carlson an amazing and dedicated person. She inspires my daughter.

The reason we have a Y membership is because our daughter takes dance at this location. We love coach Jess!!! She puts her heart and soul into these classes. We most definitely would have moved to another studio if she was not teaching. My daughter has grown leaps and bounds in the year and a half we have had her as our coach. We would not be Y members if she was not teaching dance! I have never seen a teacher who is so dedicated. Coach Jess is amazing! She is building these young ladies into not only great dancers but teaching them countless life lessons by a great role model.

We LOVE Coach Jess of the All Stars Dance Team! My daughter wouldn’t have progressed as she has without Jess and she certainly wouldn’t have been confident enough to try out for the team. Jess builds the girls up and provides the structure and drive to make them great. We can’t imagine doing dance anywhere that she’s not!

We are new members but so far we are loving the South County YMCA. The Staff is awesome and friendly. I had no idea how many programs and classes they offered & at such a affordable rate! 😁👍🏻 My only regret is that I didn’t join sooner! I just signed my 2yr old and 5yr old up for swimming lessons and I am looking forward to getting in shape at the gym and trying out some of that workout classes. 👍🏻👍🏻😊

This is great neighborhood workout facility for the whole family. The Y really does have something for everyone: indoor pool, indoor track, outdoor track, dry AND wet saunas, whirlpool, and weight machines, all for a reasonable price for our little family of four.

My family and I have been members for almost a year and we love the facility. Always clean and friendly, helpful staff. Good variety of exercise equipment. My wife loves the yoga class and we take the kids to swim every week. The swim classes are great for the kids. Our only complaints are the child care rooms could use some updates games/supplies/activities for the kids and there isn’t really a dedicated space for CrossFit-type exercises.

I LOVE this location, although I can go to every location and I have 3 surrounding my work places, I choose this location 90% of the time. Great, very helpful staff and plenty of programs to choose from. If I had to put down a comment...I would just love for them to have an outdoor pool. Other then that absolutely amazing, I feel SAFE and WELCOME every time I visit them!

We've had a family membership for over a year and get a lot of use out of it. We like that the indoor pool gives us something to do with the kids in winter months and their confidence in swimming and around water has really improved with the frequent pool trips. I enjoy the group classes and feel that the instructors do a great job and make the workouts fun.

I enjoy the spinning classes but don't really go anymore since there are a very limited number of bikes and you have to sign up a week in advance. The classes seem to fill up with the same 10 people every week, making it difficult to get a spot. The locker rooms/hot tub area could be improved as they always seem to have a mildew smell and don't feel extremely clean but overall we're happy with the facility and our membership.

I have been a member to the Y off and on for over 10 years. Staff members are friendly and welcoming. Facility is clean, along with up-to-date equipment and popular exercise classes. Outdoor track is a plus for those who don't enjoy the treadmill, as well as an indoor track during winter. Definitely recommend for anyone to check out!

The Y is a great organization. It serves a much needed role in today's community by providing activities and facilities for youth. Better youth, stronger families, better communities. I've been a member for 20 years.
The men's locker room could use some improvement. The carpet needs replacement and the showers need repairs.

The South County Family YMCA makes the members feel like family. Jess, the dance team teacher/coach, has not only taught my daughters the necessary skills to be great dancers but has has helped improve my daughters' self-confidence. The front desk employees have made me feel like an episode of Cheers because everyone knows my name. The clean staff go out of their way to make sure the place is spotless and to make sure that all guest have a great experience at the Y.
