The parking it's a joke, every time they have events across the street, they say you can park in the garage but it's always closed, also they don't even have wifi and there's no signal at all, abd once a piece of equipment breaks it takes like a year to get fixed just like the other two locations.

I almost do not want to write a review because GymKC seems to be the best kept secret in Kansas City; I am afraid if I give it too much praise, it will become more crowded!

Ease-of-Membership:
The GymKC is a great gym and an even better organization. The sign-up process was painless and, more importantly, the cancelation process is just as painless. This is not a gym that forces you to go to the ends of the Earth and back just to cancel.

Facilities & Equipment:
I was at the Uptown location, and while they have a few others, I cannot speak to those. That being said, the Uptown location is great. It has a real rustic, jungle gym feel. It's equipment is serious and effective where it counts. I never had to wait for a bench, a squat rack, a pair of dumbbells, a smith machine, or a cable machine the entire time I was there. The GymKC was not my first gym, but it had pretty much all the equipment I needed such that I only had to make minor modifications to my previous gym's workout routine.

Now, I was blown away by the variety, however, nothing can be perfect. There is some equipment I think the Uptown location could use more of. First, the Uptown location has no dedicated pull-up bars. If you want to do a pull-up, you'll either have to use the ones that seem like they're 50 ft in the air by the cable machines or use the assisted pull-up machine. For legs, the Uptown location really only has one leg press (it's the best, most difficult leg press I've ever used, but there's still only one). They do have another leg press closer to the desk in the corner of the gym, but it is terrible. It should instead be called an injury press. Its resistance curve is extremely strange and ineffective, you're more likely to injure yourself on this machine than workout your quads. Finally, my last gripe is with the hip adduction/abduction machine (It's a combo). The abduction portion is great, but the adduction portion is way too easy and doesn't feel right. I would recommend to get two separate machines.

Crowdedness:
This is the best part! I never saw the GymKC very crowded. It never mattered when I went be it the morning, afternoon, or evening, I never found the gym what I would consider crowded. Sure, the gym has "peak" hours, but I would have dropped to my hands and knees and thanked God if I walked into my old gym at it was as "busy" as the "peak" hours at the Uptown location. Truly a hidden *gym* (get it?).

If you're staying in Westport, I cannot recommend this location enough, and the staff and manager are very nice and accommodating too.

I was coming to KC from DC for work for 2 weeks and looking for a good gym. I had been calling around, and luckily, Brad was the one who picked up. He took care of me right away no appointment needed. He pro-rated my fees and got me in at a very reasonable price.

I absolutely love this gym. It’s a disciplined environment with no music, and everyone trains with a high standard that fits me perfectly. I really hope they open a location in the DC area someday!

Thanks again, Brad truly appreciated.

Unfortunately, management at the gymKC uses dishonest compensation practices for employees. The equipment is ok in quality and diversity but it's not great, especially for the price point. Their management likes to ask Google to take down negative reviews but unfortunately for them, Google can see I have visited this location multiple times.

This gym is horrible and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, been telling everyone I know to avoid it. I went here for the last year and wanted to share some of my experiences! I’ll try and keep it short though.

The owners do not care about these gyms at all. Stuff is always breaking, machines will be broken for months at a time and half the equipment has duct tape holding it together. I know people that work there and they’ve told me that the owner will literally come in and act like she didn’t know all this stuff was broken when they themselves have reported it to her. Also, when I first joined one thing I really loved was all the plants everywhere, they have since almost all died due to a mealybug infestation (I collect tropical plants and warned them about the problem months ago, they did nothing and let them all die). Oh and they don’t ever play music, it’s always weirdly silent in there.

About a month ago I got a skin infection from the grey floor mat at the Uptown location. I know for a fact I got it from there due to what I was wearing/the location it popped up in the next day. When I complained they refused to do anything to help me or improve the facilities by providing yoga mats to stretch on that you are able to wipe down yourself. The owner pretty much just said I could bring my own yoga mat but they wouldn’t be getting any. They do provide them at the other locations though so I feel like this is more just them being cheap and not wanting to buy more (and I found out from a worker there that they are supposed to have the floor mat deep cleaned once a month but they literally couldn’t remember the last time it was done).

They had no problems raising the prices 6 months ago but literally nothing has been fixed or improved, only gotten worse. Every complaint I have brought to their attention has been met with being told they’re not going to do anything to fix it and in one instance when a man at the westside location was being extremely disruptive, I was literally told I could just go to a different gym if I didn’t like it.

So long story short the owners here obviously don’t care about their gyms or their clients all that much. Don’t waste your money, there’s plenty of other better gyms around here!

My partner and I just started coming here after moving to KC. I considered planet fitness but decided a to try something new and I’m glad I did. Love this place - plenty of equipment and variety of machines and weights. It hasn’t ever been too busy, so you can get your full workout in without waiting around. Staff has been friendly and everyone mostly keeps to themselves. Affordable for being 24/7 imo. The only downside is there is no WiFi available but I still give it 5 stars because it is private enough where you’re not feeling creeped on or judged. Great environment for just starting out or highly experienced.

Enjoyed my time here! I was a member for about 6 months while in KC. No frills kinda gym is my kind of place! Never had to wait to use equipment or cardio machines. It’s a big place and has a lot of equipment to get creative. No tvs or music so bring your own tunes! Monica was accommodating and easy to talk to. And if you’re looking for an intelligent, functional trainer to work with, ask for Blake!

Great gym! Got a day pass, which was a little under $17, and was more than happy with my experience. Spacious, lots of equipment, three free weight racks, and awesome bathrooms. No joke you could shower a horse in their individual showers.

I worked out here for a little over a year and this gym is basically perfect if you know what you're getting into. It's a reasonably priced, no frills gym with easy sign up, no contracts, everything you need and nothing you don't. It's 24/7 but even at peak hours you can get a lift in just fine.

If you like a proper locker room and sauna and Cafe and stuff then look elsewhere, if you just want a clean, simple, and fairly quiet gym to exercise and get out of there, this is the place. I'm not sure I'd drive across town for it, but I lived close and this place was perfect for me. Two other locations and twice weekly boxing classes included, so you've got options.

I'm only canceling because I'm moving out of town, otherwise I could see myself lifting here for years to come.

Easy sign up experience. The GM Monica is very approachable and knowledgeable. I signed up so far it’s a positive experience. Gym has lots of common equipment and free weights. Appears clean except when I came to work out there wasn’t supplies to wipe down the equipment so I’m not sure if their staff cleans or we do?

β˜… 4

Nice gym but I’ll offer a dissenting opinion even though I KNOW this is an unpopular take. I honestly didn’t care for the atmosphere in this gym too much. Others described it as mellow which I would agree with, almost TOO mellow. The gym is silent other than people breathing or weights being set down. If you don’t use earbuds it might feel a little dead inside. That plus it’s quite spacious and clean feeling, doesn’t really put me in the mood to get pumped up and sweaty. This gym made me realize something weird about myself in that I prefer a more lively gym experience with more potential for personal connections. I used to go to the YMCA back in NC before I moved and I’m going to keep looking for a gym with that type of vibe. Nothing wrong with the gymKC itself, probably what most people would prefer but it just wasn’t for me!

I was a member of this gym for a bit over a year and loved it. We lived in the apartment complex near by so it was super convenient to get there. Lots of parking available and the entry/exit (24/7) felt very secure. Lots of dumbbells available and a giant, cushioned free exercise area. Cardio machines had a nice view of the parking lot to make it a bit less boring. Pricing is really good as well. We only cancelled our membership because we moved away otherwise I would have definitely been a member for way longer!

I’m in town for a month and was easily able to work with the staff on a short term plan for a very reasonable price ($35 plus tax). Also, no contract involved whereas other gyms can make canceling a huge hassle. The facilities are clean and well maintained and I’ve never had difficulty finding open stations. There is a dress code (very reasonable) so just be sure to check on their website for that info before going.

This has been my top choice KC area gym location for over a decade. The ladies running this establishment have provided amazing customer service since the start while maintaining a no contract, reasonable cost, 24 hour gym membership. The staff is always amazing. Over the years I’m yet to meet an unwelcoming staff member. And these guys usually stay with the gym for a long time. Love this place !! They have multiple locations with different equipment. Nice weight amounts. As long as you don’t expel any outrageous grunting it’s a pretty good place to gain some size. Some nice hammer strength machines at the uptown location. So it’s a good place to do upper body focus. I would recommend the west side location for legs as for some reason the squat racks seem to free up easier. All locations usually offer a variety of different classes free of charge (location specific). I would end this with an β€œif you like great prices and amazing service....bla..bla .... then this is the gym β€œ but in reality this gym really is too good to need a line that sounds like a sales pitch. Don’t do yourself a disservice by passing up this gym.

Basic in the sense that it has exactly what you need to get the job done. And then some. Loaded with equipment and machines, perhaps a bit too many, this location lends itself well to a gym as it is quite LARGE. (Inside a former strip mall lobby and shops)

Spread out, it has completely seperate areas, which makes it good for several reasons - like avoiding annoying stack slammers and knucleheads. It is also kept relatively clean for such a large space.

Monthly fee good and its open 24 hours which is good for when you want to avoid peak hours.

I love that the gym is 24/7 and is very clean. If you go at the right times, you’ll be able to avoid meatheads or people hogging racks for a whole hour. I see people saying in their reviews that the price is great but honestly, you could get more out of a gym for almost $50 a month. No hot tub, no sauna, limited bathroom and locker space.. The nice part about the price is that there are classes included with the membership. but they should have a cheaper option for people who don’t want the classes at all. i’ve never taken one and never will because they don’t fit my schedule or my preference but I need this gym because of how close they are to me and i can go anytime of day or night.

While some of the equipment is outdated and a few more amenities would be nice, I have yet to find another location in KC that signs you up with consistent pricing and no contracts or hidden fees, and let's you cancel with 30 days' notice - in under 20 seconds. I don't expect a red carpet upon arriving or anything of that nature; just a simple hello from the staff will suffice; however, that rarely happens. I don't like the smell, it probably comes from the carpet. I don't like the lighting or lack thereof; very creepy working alone at 5:30am. I don't like that they aren't staffed 24/7. I don't like that their "gym rules" are judgmental and discriminate against women working out in a sports bra or short shorts; why does it matter what anyone wears? A woman or man should be able to wear what she/he is comfortable in; not what makes OTHERS feel comfortable. I have decided to sign up at One Life Fitness, despite the $15 increase in monthly fees because there aren't any rules discriminating against women looking hot.

The staff is great and there are very few pretentious meatheads – more "quiet hipster working out in an NPR shirt" and less "jersey shore."

The only downside is the wifi at this particular location is total trash. So if you're looking to watch Netflix on the treadmill, download your episodes in advance!

I love this gym! The friendly staff and atmosphere is a big part of why I have been going back for the last 9 months and lost 45 lbs. Great equipment, plenty of different lifting equipment and very clean!

Great gym! Quiet, peaceful place to come pound some iron or sweat a bad day away. Ignore that guy that gives one star because he can't read weight labels... those kinds of douchey people don't belong here.

Dated equipment and nobody reracks weights in the proper spots. Plates and 35's mixed in with each other, mixed up dumbells. Staff should arrange this nightly, and if they did I'd definitely rate this up another star.

Super friendly staff. I don't feel nervous due to the fact that I'm not overly experienced at working out. Nobody judges and it is a judement free environment.

Great for the price. Lots of machines and classes.

Want to be real? The bathrooms are adequate, the machines are good, it gets crowded but you can always find something to do or use. I really love the yoga class and biking class.

I love this place for many reasons. The first being the classes. I mean, for 40/mo or 30/month ea for a couple I can go to as many classes as I want per week. That right there is gold to me. Secondly, this isn't 24 hr fitness. And I mean that in a good way. Being inundation with meat heads does not happen at Scott. Neither does being stared at awkwardly. If you've gone to 24 you know exactly what I mean. The place doesn't get so packed that you have to take turns with anyone. I won't go anywhere else. What do you want from a machine? Because a newer one isn't going to make you look more awesome, neither is it going to build your muscle faster or do tricks. People that love Scott, they understand that concept. No, I don't feel un-safe. No there are no drive by's. That is just ridiculous.
