This gym is legit! For those with little kiddos and busy schedules. Cap city is the place. My wife and I both work and need time to hit the weights and workout to try and slow the affects of aging. This gym provides us a chance to drop kiddos off at a safe and budget friendly option so we can get a much needed workout. This place just got a massive expansion and it’s fire. 100% recommended this place all walks of life with so many options for each phase of life. Congrats to this team on their hard work and dedication to the community!!

Switched to this location specifically because they had a sauna. Was out of commission all the beginning of the year because “they were replacing and upgrading.” The new on is moderately warm, doesn’t reach adequate temperature and is easily out of order 50% of the time.
If you are going to charge top tier prices for the added amenities, you need to invest in the amenities you advertise and make sure they are working and functioning.
Very friendly staff.

An employee said they canceled my membership. They did not. Capital city continued to charge me for 7 months after this. When I noticed it on my bank statement and brought it to their attention, it was my fault. It was my fault for not noticing sooner, it was my fault that I did not come in person to cancel and it was my fault because that employee was not a manager at the business. They would not refund the nearly $400 and were not able to take any responsibility for their employee. I have attached messages that were shown to management.

Very disappointed to see a discontinuation of Silver Sneakers. Retired folks typically fill the club mid-day when others can't due to work and school. In the meantime, facilities constantly need repair and management seems disinterested in members' concerns.

I’m visiting from out of town and stumbled on this. Not sure why others complain because I thought this had the best of everything: tons of equipment that worked great, a variety of classes with awesome instructors, a pool, and even a smoothie bar to top off your workout. I want to move here for this gym. The staff were all very helpful and kind.

Decently clean and while their equipment and facilities do break down, they seem motivated to repair and replace in a timely manner.
My biggest pet peeve is the punching bag. Currently it’s mounted in a basically unusable position. It’s on a stand that’s too wobbly, too low, and a too small angle that you can’t move around without tripping over the stand.
I have asked for it to be properly mounted or moved or both or any other idea. All request fall on deaf ears. Despite maintaining other equipment, they refuse to even acknowledge the bag is a problem.
A metal bar and a piece of chain from the I-beam and metal floor joists would fix the issues.

This gym has an entire fleet of some of the cheapest poor quality machines I've ever used. You don't feel tension on the targeted muscle groups when using the equipment, but most newb gym goers probably won't know any better. The sauna was out of order and so was the steam room in the men's locker room. The benches were low quality and I found the layout of the facility to be convoluted. Not to mention the overall vibe and culture of the gym was toxic (lots of people strutting around lifting while talking loudly to people in their air pods, it wasn't a gym full of people getting after it). I really don't recommend this facility unless all you want to do is some basic barbell movements or cardio equipment. It's a shame they charge as much as they do and offer such garbage equipment, it's total robbery. This is not a place for people with serious fitness goals in bodybuilding, strongman, powerlifting etc. I also don't recommend it as a lifestyle club due to the fact that all of the beneficial amenities are out of order.

I feel bad for the employees because they are extremely nice and try their best, however a lack of communication between front staff and upper management make the front staff be severely under informed on what is going on with amenities ie. why they are out of order/ if they are working at all) they have Poorly maintained facilities. The mens bathroom stalls have never been properly cleaned, multiple stains in the mens stalls that have been here since I started my membership 4+ months ago. For 70+$ a month I have never been more disappointed with a gym. The worst part is that you are contractually obligated to retain the membership for 12 mos when you sign up. Even when half the amenities are not even fully functional half the time:( be aware!

The men’s sauna is always down. For over a year now, no matter how many times it happens they can’t fix the problem. The door doesn’t close all the way. It is extremely irritating for everyone including staff, yet somehow, no one can seem to solve this situation.
Also, the hot tub makes you itch in bad ways for days after using.
I didn’t want to leave this review because I love the staff. But I’ve had enough. This gym needs to take better care of its amenities.

I took advantage of the free week trial to make sure I enjoyed the space and that the classes I was most interested in worked in reality...it was great! I highly recommend the week trial to make sure you feel "at home" at this gym...I sure appreciated that. My partner and I are now a members!

We've used this gym for somewhere around 10 years. Staff has always been cheerful and nice.
You can tell they have an interest in making improvements to the gym: paint touch ups, introducing new workout equipment etc.
I consistently see staff running around re-organizing gym equipment, putting plates back, and emptying towel baskets. Their enthusiasm doesn't go unnoticed. Especially trainer Alex, I believe is his name.

I’ve been going for almost a year… The classes and gym equipment are excellent. The teenagers they hire are so friendly and courteous! I enjoy their welcoming attitude when you walk in…. The facility is very poorly maintained though it’s very dirty every day! The showers are very dirty and the shower curtains have mold…they need to clean and sanitize this facility at least once a week!!!!!!

I have been a patron of this gym on and off for 5 years and over the years I have seen countless old men in jeans, teens in crocs and Birkenstocks and men in shirts that barely qualify as shirts, but today I wore a sports bra that went up to my clavicle and down quite far (see photo) and I was interrupted mid workout to be asked if “I was aware of the gym’s attire policy “. Are you kidding me! I felt so targeted at that moment. Are women the only ones who are required to follow the dress code? 6” of midriff is no longer appropriate ladies. Get your baggy pants and sweatshirts on at this gym. Needless to say I do not feel safe at this gym because of the staff.

I’m sharing my experience because I feel it’s important to address how I was treated recently. During an interaction with Mallory, I was on the phone and tried to explain this to her multiple times. I asked if we could pause the conversation for a moment so I could speak with her respectfully, but she dismissed it, saying it “doesn’t matter” that I was on the phone. She then brought up the policy and mentioned that I had been spoken to about it before, but the truth is, the only person who has spoken to me about it was her, twice.
What really frustrated me was seeing other members wearing much more inappropriate attire—such as cutoffs, sandals, see-through shorts, and extremely short shorts—without any intervention. When I asked Mallory if I could speak with someone above her due to her unprofessional behavior, she responded by saying, "No, I’m revoking your membership." I was then asked to leave, which I did immediately through the side door to avoid any further conflict.
This wasn’t my first negative interaction with Mallory. The first time was when she came up to me during one of her classes and told me to "go put a shirt on" in a tone I found very unprofessional. I was respectful and responded politely, but her tone and manner were inappropriate. I have always treated your staff with kindness, and I’ve had meaningful conversations with them. It’s disappointing to be treated this way when I’ve always tried to remain respectful.
Mallory, with respect, all of your responses have been falsely stated. I never once was rude to your staff. I value all of them. I was very polite until you kept being hostile. That’s when I stood my ground and asked to go above you. Nothing about that is rude behavior. My review doesn’t reflect that because it wasn’t the case. It feels like you’re trying to convince yourself that I was rude in your response, but the only one who was rude here was you, Mallory. Your responses to members here speak volumes, so there's no need for me to elaborate further. The outfit shown in the photos below is what I was wearing. If you're going to lie about that, who knows what else you might be dishonest about. also having people write you good reviews to mask what is really going on is against Google policy.
I truly hope you never speak to other members the way you spoke to me. No one should have to deal with that at a gym, nor should anyone be falsely accused of how the situation truly unfolded. I want this to be a positive experience for all members and to shed light on poor management so that Cap City can be the best it possibly can be.
I have changed my response because I’m not going to reach your level of rudeness. It’s not how I handle situations. I will handle this accordingly so it’s get corrected.
Mallory: if anything it does speak volumes in a very positive way. I wanted to shed light to what was going on.Thank you for acknowledging that. I would be happy to post the screenshots from what I posted before nothing that I said was any different. Also asking others to post a review is against Google policy like I stated. I simply have expressed what has happened. Many of those are upset. Which I am allowed to do because first amendment. I’m friends with half of your staff. only person I’ve talk to has been you. You have to get dress-coded 5 times to be kicked out is what I was told. But apparently it’s twice by a manger that has had it out for you in the beginning. You scouted me out a member of your gym contacted me and watched the whole thing. No one said anything. again like you said there are cameras that can easily show that. In which I’m grateful for.

Hard to recommend this facility when young women can’t feel comfortable in what they’re wearing for fear of a staff member telling them they can or can’t wear something. Plenty of other facilities allow young women to wear what they want and encourage it. It’s interesting that there is only one person who enforces this rule as well. She has come up to me when I was wearing sweat pants and a cropped tank top. She interrupted me mid set and was extremely rude and belittled me, I was 19 at the time. After that incident I make a point to not be upstairs and avoid times I know she is working.
I have been going to this gym for almost 10 years. Sad to see how they’re treating long time members. Don’t sexualize women and make us uncomfortable! Do BETTER.

Very nice gym. We went to Helena for a day trip and decided to go to capital city as I grew up in Helena and wanted to promote a local gym with our business all the way from Greatfalls about 6 of us, three of which are personal trainers and two are competitive builders. As we walked in we witnessed a manager find a women wearing normal gym attire (leggings and a sports bra) and kick her out for being dressed inappropriately. This drove us to turn around walk out right out that door. Gyms are supposed to be a judgemental free zone. And how that women spoke to that member was very bazaar. We have decided not to come back to capital city again.

I would not recommend this facility! They prioritize micromanaging what the women here wear- and do NOTHING about the creepy men who come here. There has been multiple scandals regarding old men doing creepy things. Yet they constantly get after the young women for wearing crop tops/shorts/etc. It’s absolutely unacceptable. I would encourage the management to move into 2025 with the rest of us.

My partner and I came in for a 7-day trial over a month ago. We never filled anything out, the front desk just let us in and shrugged when we asked about membership. It felt weird to enter without any documentation, but I figured they were busy and maybe that's just how it was.
After utilizing the basketball court for an hour, I opted to go ask more about the facility. The front desk couldn't tell me anything about the difference between a couple membership and a family membership. I asked for details and the young kid manning the front desk just shrugged and said, "I don't know but if you join, you'll figure it out." He told me to wander around if I wanted to see everything. I was taken aback but it was a weekend so I assumed weekday staff might be better equipped to help me. I asked what the membership hours were and was told, "I don't know." Later I found out Saturdays it's 11am-4pm which is weird because that's when I was there asking questions and there was no one there that knew anything about membership. I tried the following Saturday with the same results - shrugs and "I don't know" as the answer for everything.
We've been back several times and no one at the front desk can tell us what each membership entails. Also - side note - I have had to stand at the front desk staring at staff for an UNCOMFORTABLY long time before anyone even acknowledges me between their personal conversations and they also seem super annoyed I'm interrupting. I have never once signed in even though I've been let through to work out. (Is this not a safety issue for current members??) Finally, today, after over a month, I received a business card for Alex and emailed him that I would like to start a membership and have been having a hard time due to the membership hours and my own availability. He emailed me the membership hours which I had already advised him didn't work for my schedule. No offer to schedule an outside appointment, no offer to accommodate over the phone. Nothing.
My partner was over CCHC a week ago when we couldn't get signed up and I begged him to keep trying because I like the pool and courts but as the highest priced gym in town, I definitely had higher expectations of their customer service. (Also, in 2025, how have they NOT developed an online membership application?? Everything is online these days! Why do you make it so hard? lol)
After reading the reviews over the last several months, I see that this is not a one-off occurrence, and I suppose I dodged a bullet. Maybe it's time management steps in, trains on customer service, and cross-trains on membership so that when the designated membership staff isn't available, at least someone is around to answer questions.
Genuinely disappointed. For years I thought CCHC was the Cadillac of gyms in town and when I can finally afford it, it's the worst experience.

I’ve dealt with this health club a few times now, and every time I leave disappointed. I always call first to check and see how things operate and every time I’ve talked to someone they’ve given me false information.
This health club is one of the few places in town that has the body composition scan. I called to see if I needed to make an appointment and I was told no, that I can come in and have any trainer set me up. I came in and was told I have to make an appointment, that only a certain person does it. Yeah, I’m still waiting on that call back.
I called yesterday 3/22 and was told that someone would be available today to help set up a membership, since my employer includes membership as part of our benefits package I decided to try again here. I get here and again have to leave because the information given to me was incorrect and there is no one here today that can set it up.
It shouldn’t be this hard to get correct information, especially when I call ahead. It’s been nothing but a waste of my time.
If you don’t need a 24 hour facility option, I suggest Crossroads fitness, I thoroughly enjoyed going there. But since I need a 24 hour facility, I guess I’m headed to planet fitness.

Dry sauna - terrible condition.
Customer Service - non-existent.
Areas of improvement - too many to list.
Avoid.
*************
Mallory,
While I appreciate the new dry sauna machine, I have spoken to staff members several times and the temperature is so low, it is pointless as a "dry sauna." This is not my responsibility. Also, where the new sauna is located, has electrical wires that should not be exposed to the elements. The wall near the heater is starting to disintegrate, holes can be seen that expose the maintenance room. Lastly, the door lets in an enormous amount of cold air because it is not installed properly because of the hinges and due to exposed areas all around the door.
More importantly than anything, this is NOT my problem. This is your team and yours to resolve the issues that I have presented on several occasions, but you have ignored - repeatedly. I am tired of wasting my money and spending energy "hoping" you will do your job. Frankly, I should have cancelled my subscription years ago (*shame on me).
I terminated my contract not long ago. Frankly speaking, while I can understand how difficult it may be running a gym, this level of complete incompetence to customer service is staggeringly common at Capital City Health Club.

I'm not very satisfied with my workout experience at CCHC. I've worked out here since the first year the club opened & things have taken a turn for the worst since around the time after the pandemic. Location & facility are the upside- as a member, however, poor equipment maintenance & guest rudeness are the downside (I feel crowded, rushed & have to compete for the use of desired equipment). A favorite Stairmaster of mine has been out of service for going on 2 yrs.(?)- repair or replace it. Fellow users are often inconsiderate & even rude- enforce the club regulations by expulsion & cap off membership numbers (after all, this is a club). I don't intend to be negative or exclusive I only wish to get my money's worth & return the club to a better place when I looked forward to my workout instead of the dread I usually feel now. No offense to the friendly/helpful staff whom I've known through the years, I know they are doing their best. I just want to point out that a culture change is needed- maybe not just at CCHC but society (?). Thanks for hearing me out & all your efforts to provide a pleasant health club experience us all.

Great gym. But please fix the sauna. Posts signs not to put towels down, but door has so many air gaps that the cold air just pours in. Also, the sauna only stays on for 20 mins at a time. Terribly managed gym. Some of the equipment is nice but everything, especially the sauna, breaks down all the time.
The attitudes of the staff are terrible. It’s mostly bratty teens who will throw a fit any time they have to work and they’ll take a huge attitude with you if you’re unfortunate enough to have to interact with them. Management is never there and can’t be bothered to try to handle them.
Edit: what’s most hilarious about their catty attempt to deflect is that they had a problem only with me speaking to them the way their employee spoke to me. They don’t have any control over their people, their gym, or themselves. The track record is clear.

6 months into my 12 month contract. Dry sauna has been down more then its been up. In fact, as of the writing of this review, sauna is on a month+ straight of being down and I'm still paying full price. Think I understand why they do 1 year contracts when you sign up. Probably why the front desk lies to you about the price and contract when you sign up too. With their lack of equipment and more broken, many people wouldn't stay a year. I'm convinced if Helena had more gym competition, this place wouldn't have near as many members as it does. They certainly don't address any of the problems or 1 star reviews to keep members around as you can see from their email attempting to buy 5 star reviews.
I just want to add down here, before they say something like "oUr WeT sAuNa WoRkS" to my review. Yea, cool story. Not the same thing. Fix the dry sauna so it works more then a few days at a time and maybe my review will change to 2 stars. I'm still annoyed your employees lied to me about membership fees when I signed up.

From the amazing pool and swim lesson resource, to the Kid’s Club staff and service they offer families, to the amazing group classes. This gym is also super positive, with friendly people eager to better themselves.
The only improvement I could suggest would be to expand Kid’s Club operating hours to an earlier afternoon time, like opening back up at 1:30 pm, but I do understand the constraints making this a challenge. The management are extremely rude and de-humanizing, I have given positive reviews everywhere I've been , except here. Mallory went out of her way to bull dog me in front of my friends in such a masculine policing way while I was about to lift and there was nothing good in that especially for the effort I put in to be there that day and kind positive energy I exuded. They are a negative force, the two in charge. The other staff are nicer and should be in charge.Keely tried charging me 300 dollars and telling me to leave, then found out it was only a computer glitch after I had cried. Then, 6 months later, Keely called me a liar about daycare age infant being off by a couple weeks for an 18 month old child. It was miscommunication with teenage staff they hire to watch babies. Also, it's an actual nightmare, they are fake, pompous and the opposite of community being respectful to humanity. They were aware I had spoke to a lawyer which increased their hostility. Nothing to look up to but the building. I miss the other yoga instructors and staff that weren't discriminating or unkind.

I love coming to this gym. I get a great workout and have made many friends but the dress code is insane. I think finding a happy medium and obviously telling the girls that are showing majority of their butt to put on something different is fine, but you can’t even shop for gym clothes without it being a crop top. I come to train hard and I don’t want the fashion police to come up to me because my back skin is showing. If there can be a happy medium found I would give this gym a high review. If you have a problem with it look away and actually focus on your workout lol come on.

If ur child has autism, do not I repeat do not bring them to the day care here, understandable if ur child pushes or hits someone, but if their young like my child they will call u within the first hr or less if they do the following. I explained to them many times that he has autism, quite hiring in experienced people in your daycare.!!!!

When I ask people at the front desk what the monthly rates and plans are, which I feel is a common question for a front desk from anyone looking to join a new gym, they should probably be accurate answers. Then when I go to sign up and it's completely different from what I was told previously by two different employees, you should probably honor that. Front desk is a representative of your gym, it's not my fault YOUR employees aren't properly trained. Not really impressed by that and your membership person.
Update based on gyms response- I'm not confused and I don't need anything cleared up on memberships. My problem was how the entire situation was handled with Alex and that I was lied to about rates. You should've honored the rate I was told. My 1 star won't turn into a 5 star.

The front desk needs a new training courses on customer service and just basic manners. To have a member trying to tell you that a machine may be broken or not working correctly, and responding with “what do you want me to do about it?” Idk maybe have them show which machine if they can’t explain it well enough, instead of making a member feel like they are stupid or incompetent.

Tried to get a membership but spent over an hour waiting for a recruiter to show up for their shift. The front desk did nothing to help, not even bothering to make a phone call. Capital City should have a better set up for people to join this gym. There's a serious lack of professionalism and accountability from this staff.

The pool area isn't great - things floating around, the hot tub doesn't feel very hot, the showers smell like pee, and the lap lanes get very crowded. So be careful before you contract yourself in like I did.

Not impressed. CCHC wanted to charge me a Day Pass to go in to watch my grandson finish up his 15-minute swim lesson. By the time I would've walked back to my car to get my purse, there may have been perhaps five more minutes to his lesson. (I had to park on the street behind the building as there was no available parking in the parking lot.) At least they let me wait in the lobby for him.

As a health care provider, I was trying to guide my patient moving from a clinic setting into a gym setting, and met with the individual’s personal trainer to discuss this. After a 10 minute conversation with a trainer, I was promptly asked to leave the premise, as I am not a member and was told I could no longer be there. I did not use any equipment, or even attempt to treat my patient there. There used to be no issue with this, and health care providers were not informed of the change in policy. Health care providers used to have a great relationship with this gym to ensure patients/members knew how to use machines and what machines were appropriate to use for their ailments. I used to love this gym, but am now disappointed. A one time visit to ensure safety in their setting along with caring for one of their “valued members” should not be impeded. At the very least a notice should be sent so health care facilities so they do not block out their time and find it to be wasted. Very disappointed.

I attempted to cancel my membership in February of 2023 and attempted several times after that after seeing that I was still being charged. Better yet not only did they not cancel it but they actually increased my monthly fee to $75 a month. It took until August for them to actually cancel my membership and stop charging me. If you thought things couldn’t get any better well you’d be wrong. They also refuse to give me my money back because it’s “against policy” so there goes $700.

I was trying to join a new gym in the area. I had reached out to do their free week trial before signing up, but no one ever responded, despite trying to get in touch with them repeatedly. That should have been a warning. Instead I was in such a rush to join a gym that I went in and signed up without really checking the place out.
Since I've been working out there it's been pretty disappointing. Many machines don't function properly, the men's locker room is routinely very dirty, and the locker room is carpeted, as if they want to treat all of their patrons to athletes foot.
Unfortunately I signed up for a full year. I'm already looking into joining another gym after only a month of working out here. I really don't have anything positive to say, aside from the fact that they offered a veterans discount, which most gyms do now, so that shouldn't be a deciding factor for anyone interested in joining.

I’ve been a member to many different clubs from anytime fitness to lifetime fitness and ma and pa clubs. As a grad student, this monthly membership fee is hard to beat for my wife and I, especially for the great condition of the equipment. Its hard to find a gym that has the goodies - the EZ bar rack, tricep dip, back extension chair, and stair climber. Air is well circulated and not stuffy or hot.. and most members have good gym etiquette on busy days. My one critique after a years membership is the sauanas are not always reliably running, albeit some members are the cause of it pouring water or bcaa water over the stove…

I have had a membership at this gym for a little over a month now. I did the 7 day free trial first and enjoyed the experience overall. To me it's spendy so I wanted to leave an in depth review for those considering joining.
Pros: friendly atmosphere, good amenities with the pool, hot tub, and saunas. Suits my needs as far as basic workout equipment and whatnot. Overall decent customer service and good class offerings.
Cons: The hours of operation are kind of annoying. I found out the hard way they close at 5pm on the weekends. You can purchase a 24 hour pass for the smaller area downstairs and I was going to add it automatically but I was told by the membership guy not to do that unless I had a problem. Also, all the classes they have are seemingly in the 9-5 hours which means I can't partake in most of them. Hygiene isn't great in there if you go towards the end of the day like I do. Few people wipe the equipment and the teenagers working the desk at those hours don't walk around and clean intermittently and just stand around on their phones. And the women's locker room definetly has this urine smell in one corner. I once found a bathingsuit just left in the dry sauna. Before I signed up for membership I made sure they knew the locker room wasn't great and it has improved since.
Overall, if I wasn't locked in to the contract I'd consider canceling but there are still many positives about this gym as many other reviews have mentioned.

This is the standard of courtesy you can expect from people who lift here.......... no one ever puts their weights back and you always come in to a mess. And the women's locker room only has one curtained room to change in if you don't feel comfortable undressing in front of strangers and it reeks of moldy mildew and dirty feet from the age old carpet.

As autumn turns to winter, spending as much time at Capital City Health Club is the plan to keep moving and tend to my mental health. Besides two pools, I love the saunas and plan to spend time in the hot tub. It's the first day of our membership and I'm already impressed. The swim instructor got my shy guy to enjoy the water to the point he didn't want to leave. I plan on attending some classes, trying out the equipment and sending my kids to care so I can workout.

I've found an invigorating work out at CCHC gym, stretching, muscle toning, etc... an important part of my work out is playing basketball, my blood pressure is under control, so many benefits I'm satisfied. Which brings me to the problem, CCHC has 6 baskets, 3 of them are at 7-8 feet, why is that? During the week I rarely see any one using them (besides some kid wanting to see if he can dunk the ball at 8 feet). Please raise the baskets to regulation height of 10 feet. One basket at 8 feet is plenty, don't you think?

Variety of equipment & group fitness along with the Kids Club & pool is what drew me & my boyfriend to take advantage of the flash sale @ the end of April.
The last 2 months my boyfriend (who has dwarfism) has rarely wanted to work out with me because he can only use half the equipment because there are so few tools to aid him in using the equipment for his size.
He has been accommodated generously at another health club in town & he highly prefers the level of service & attentiveness to his abilities there.
We are fairly disappointed with the lack of accommodation @ CCHC so far, especially with all the physical therapy tools onsite.

I see people complain about the price point. I agree it's a bit high, but the perks make it worth it. I don't just lift weights I also use the sauna, steam room, and hot tub. If I just wanted weights I'd go somewhere like Tiny's, but I want the whole package. CCHC has it.
