Great place! I love the YMCA and the community is so fun, if I could my rating would be closer to 4.5 unfortunately there is one employee who is kinda mean. Other than that, great fun place!

I used to work at the Missoula YMCA. I went above and beyond for my job and the community, and I really loved it. I had an absolutely devastating tragedy come unexpectedly into my life and management wouldn’t cover my shift. The coldness and disconnect I experienced from the YMCA management broke my heart and is the reason I left. I never got to say goodbye to my people and had to leave one of my favorite jobs. I tried to forget and come back as a member, but every time I was in the YMCA at least 2 but sometimes up to 4-5 people had negative things to say to me about the YMCA and management, and half the people didn’t even know I used to work there. I cancelled my membership but still have to go there for work and it’s the same thing. It’s clear that they use the YMCA name and take advantage and take for granted the community, employees, and donors. They are much more concerned about having new coffee tables and appearing good than actually being good. The people of Missoula deserve better, and I’m so sad that something that used to be one of my favorite experiences is now one of the most disappointing.

Really great place to workout. Huge shoutout to Niel, one of the managers, for always being friendly to talk to and greeting guests at the front desk. He rocks!

Pretty nice all around. Oddly though the locker rooms have changing stalls, as if we've regressed so much that people can't change out even when separated by gender. And the lockers are short with odd locks that seem to use some ball-and-socket instead of a latch, no doubt to eventually break and then require a new part to fix. So, there's not much space left for lockers with all the changing stalls, and then the lockers are inadequately small. The lockers wouldn't fit more than one down parka. Then, there's only one urinal. But, every shower has its own stall and then another stall on the other side of it, ostensibly to change out, again. Even the suit-spinner that dries wet garments has its own stall. So, all this space taken up by stalls, and so little left for normal locker rooms stuff like lockers and toilets, and they decide to jam the trash cans on the only small shelves next to the few lockers. So, if you put your stuff on the shelf, it's next to wear people spit and chuck their trash. One might have thought that with computers and psych meds that things would be designed better, but I guess it was better when people just drew designs by hand and limited it to coffee and cigarettes.

With my stay in Missoula extended I decided that a gym membership was a good idea. Sadly, most gyms seem to be about taking money from “members” and that’s about it. That’s why I’m so very happy that I joined the Y. Staff are stupendous. The facility, equipment and classes exceed any other gyms in Missoula. Join the Y and truly be a member.

Zachary Martin was the best I'm disappointed you guys let him go. I've been working out at the YMCA since 2011, most of that time was creating great memories. These last few months have been some dark times thieves have given me anxiety, I'm disabled I don't have anywhere else to leave my stuff then in my backpack. Zachary would acknowledge what we are saying, understand we're going through a hard time, had empathy with Bill lacks and customers service. April 3rd my wallet with my life savings, my identification, my medical card identification was all taken and nobody contacted me. The YMCA can do better bring Zachary Martin back!

I've been a member for a few years now and canceled my membership due to new rules in the pool. Apparently they don't really want you to dive in the pools because you might drowned when holding your breath.

The new renovations are decent and the staff is kind and well mannered. The place is clean now. Surprisingly they actually get hot water in the showers.

I'm seriously disappointed In the policy change. I guess they would rather you go dive in a river without life guards? Turning into a bunch of litigious Californians

I appreciate the community and the facilities at this location, but at the moment almost all the facilities are under construction or renovation. Only the yoga room seems to be open until the 15th and many of the main draws like the pool and b ball gym won’t be open until September. I would recommend waiting until then to sign up.

I bought a punch card for 10 day passes and have really enjoyed the classes, enthusiastic instructors, and welcoming staff. Unfortunately, I have not had access to the rock climbing room because it's understaffed. If I had known this was going to happen, I wouldn't have bought the punch card, because I feel stressed to use it all before I move away in a few weeks. But to be fair, the limited staffing for the rock climbing room (or non existent staffing?) isn't something they could have foreseen. So it's 5/5 stars from me.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Commenting on the Y summer camp they have been holding at Washington Middle School all this past week. The single (covered) trash can under the shelter has been overflowing with bird-edible trash for two days now, greeting me each morning with an unsanitary mess after bird picnics each evening. There are dumpsters on site so why not empty your own trash each evening as you leave the school grounds and leave this public recreation area 'better' than you found it? Wouldn't that be the 'Y' way?

We love the childcare and summer camps! Our son goes to the kinder camp and was there for 10 hours yesterday. I had terrible mom guilt about it. He begged me not to make him leave when I got there to pick him up! His heart is fueled by sports and friends and the kinder camp couldn’t be more perfect! Makes me happy knowing he is safe and practicing his socialization in an amazing environment!

NOT a true family gym….If you have a small child under 8 and need childcare to workout, this may work for you. If you have an older child that wants to be active, this is NOT the place for you. We love the friendly front desk staff. We love renting out the blue gym for a birthday party (and Katie goes above and beyond to create a great experience). BUT we left our gym when our daughter expressed a desire to be able to be active while we workout and she is too old for childcare. We joined before camps started and it was great-she was able to climb, swim, or play basketball while we worked out. However, those spaces are not actually available once camps start (sad news to us that ended in us being asked to leave the gym while she sketched in her art book next to me while I was stretching. It was humiliating as we understood and have witnessed many families working out together and many unattended minors using equipment that they are too young to be using due to their growth plates without ever being asked to leave or escorted out like we were. In the past, she has repeatedly had to move due to rentals/space conflicts of downstairs space and contented herself with a book next to me. We’ve done this at Peak and at VRTX without any problems. She NEVER uses the equipment. At the time of this incident, the gym was a ghost town & her presence was not interfering with anyone. When we asked about why the sudden change, we were told that it has never been their policy with the exemption of swim team or campers being upstairs. I felt very misled.) We were willing to overlook a lot of problems this gym has if it meant our daughter’s needs could also be met. Delaney was kind enough to share that those spaces would be available to my daughter if we came before 6am or after 6pm. Since that doesn’t work for us, it was suggested that we drop our family membership since our daughter cannot use HER membership. It was also recognized from the top of management down after I waited for over an hour to speak with someone that the gym just isn’t a place for kids 8-11 (too old for childcare, too young to go upstairs). On a positive note, we’ve done sports with Y and have even volunteer coached. They are pretty good about structure (esp compared to parks and recc). However, I have gotten staph twice and now suspect the common link is the sauna (now closed). When she was younger and we used the childcare, I got staph after using the sauna. I’ve never gotten it again UNTIL rejoining this gym and using the sauna again. I like to enter into a relationship knowing as much as possible before committing. I hope this helps you make the right decision for your family. I know they have a lot going on, but a family gym it is not.

The standard of care for the sauna has declined, requests for it to be cleaned has been ignored. The YMCA loves to put up new signs in the sauna Critiquing and assuming Members behavior but refuses to take precautions in keeping the sauna clean and healthy for its members. You’ll get a nice little rump itch from the bench if you don’t bring in a towel to sit on, the Loch nes monster lives under one of the benches, it’s everyone’s sweat baby and grime. Come see it for yourself. Please take my review seriously for it’s been an ongoing issue for years now. The showers are filthy. Please address these issues.

I canceled my membership because I only use it for the camps and the lady lied paused it instead when I definitely didn't pause it when selecting it online. They're still trying to charge my card after six months. I've called to get another cancel membership email sent to me. They won't send. Hate when companies do this, it's becoming such a regular thing. Shame on them. Shame on the lady that handles cancellations for being shady.

Update after calling several times to cancel they wouldn't send me the link to cancel membership.

Sent me to collections over 29 dollars. Paid it to get them to leave me alone

YMCA here is trash

The comment bellow is a lie because they didn't start recharging me until after 6 months.

Today was one of the worst experiences ever had with a ymca. Not sure if all the employees are mad today trying to irritate the guests or just an off day. Was here a total of 35 mins enough for a 5 minute soak in the hot tub that just had to be checked and clorined while im in it. And enough time to find the 2 out of 20 shower heads that actually work. One actually had hot water I was suprised. Then to have people on top of each other while trying to dress out. 0 out of 5 stars for this experience.

The water aerobics instructors,Nora, Becca, and Julie are great ! (We miss Sarah and Brooke and wish we could have them again also.)The lifeguards are helpful and alert and the office staff and Carol, who cleans, are all wonderful. The only complaint I have is so concerning ! There are only two showers in the Women's locker room that work now. We often have 12 to 20 women at water aerobics that need to shower. Plus all the other women and groups of children that need to shower. Please get plumbers to fix them. There are demands to shower before getting in to the pool. How can that happen? And everyone wants to at least rinse the chlorine off.How much longer do we have to wait ? UPDATE !! Today we now have eight showers working Thank you so much !!

Filthy place. Only thing cleaned in the locker rooms is the counter and toilets. The showers have black mold and the lockers look like they haven't been cleaned for a year. The floor of the dry sauna is caked with nastyness and you have to listen to pop radio because there are no quiet times, due to the lifeguards NEEDING music 24/7. The customer is not valued unless you fall in line and deal with the bs. Waste of money and time.

Hopefully my one experience is unique. Tried to take my 10 month old daughter to the pool. The pool is fairly small and more than half of it is swim lanes. So, I took her into the shallow end of non-swimlane section. After about 5 minutes i was told that i couldnt be in that section, but i could go anywhere that wasnt swimlanes or the shallow end of the non-swim lanes section. So, basically the "any other part of the pool" that i could "feel free to use" with my infant daughter was the 10-12 foot deep section of the pool.

At least the girl at the front desk didn't charge us.

My experience with and at the Missoula YMCA has been extremely outstanding. The YMCA has an amazing verity of amenities/utilities you can use, and they are maintained and kept up to date. Along with a beautiful and welcoming facility and staff.

From all the gyms I have been a member of I can confidently say the YMCA has the best staff; they are extremely friendly, greet you by name if known, are very helpful, and just overall people you feel care about your success at the gym. I would like to specifically mention that Ryan True and Kellan Rohde have been a true representation of this welcoming and ever so friendly environment. Every interaction I have had with these gentleman has always been a delight and extremely helpful.

Moving on from the outstanding staff, the gym it’s self does not fall short of that same fabulous impression and expectation. As I mentioned earlier the facility it’s self is kept clean, up to date, and covid germ reduction compliant. You will find that many areas around the gym have disinfecting sprays. These disinfecting sprays where present before the covid pandemic, but have increased throughout the pandemic. The gym is very spacious, and for me at least has never been crowded. The YMCA features a very nice indoor track, which I personally love and use every time. The pool area is one of the nicest a gym in Missoula has in my opinion. And is properly guarded by individuals such as Kellan, which unfortunately I have seen other gyms struggle with.

The Missoula YMCA has a terrific selection of staff and facility, but also has amazing values and believes. The YMCA is truly inclusive and welcoming to everyone. The YMCA also helps out a lot in the community, and overall are very community focused. For it is that these specific values and believes is one of the sole reasons I am a member of the YMCA.

In summary it is because of the above and beyond staff, fantastic facility, and believes and values that I am a proud member of the Missoula YMCA.

A few instructors are great. The front desk is great. The administration? If you have a question or an issue that the front desk isn't able to resolve, they will direct you to the appropriate administrator who will not answer the phone, will not return phone messages and will not respond to email. No, we haven't been nasty or negative. We've just been seeking information.

This place is called the young men's christian organization? lol
My wife who is disabled and myself who is retired went to check it out and these people are not courteous. They are in my opinion not really caring about poor or disabled. I have spoken to so many who believe even with the so called lower price for low income. it is still outrageous.

On their web page in big letters it says

"STRONGER TOGETHER
When you join the Y, you're joining more than a gym—you're joining a community of people dedicated to building a stronger, healthier Missoula for all."

Unless you cant afford the fees. Then you are not to be a participant.

UPDATE
7/31/2021
Horrible I'm low income not white I can't afford for my family. I was told to go elsewhere. My wife and son and I tried to join. We got lectured about how we need to pay a price that we cannot afford. they would be getting money from my Medicare provider, yet they said they would still have to charge a high price to my wife and son. My wife is disabled and on ssdi .

The people there did not care about me being a minority, or my wife getting a tiny bit of money each month. they were cold, rude and in my opinion not caring about me being a non white mixed race person. yet, they get money in donations claiming they are diverse? no they are not. I did not see a single person of color at the desk or in management or even in the gym?

they are getting money claiming to be diverse, i do not believe they have been professional, diverse at all. They are cold, smug, rude and looked down upon me a 67 year old man and my wife like we were children

here again it says
"EVERYONE IS WELCOME HERE
Since 1967, the Missoula Y has been committed to providing healthy, affordable opportunities for all in our community. We are proud to offer financial assistance for Y membership and programs. Apply today!"

The amount we were to be charged for myself, my wife and son was $720 a year. That is more than most private clubs and an amount that is not in our budget. so we are not allowed to be members in the all is welcome Y.

The organization in my opinion was rude to us, did not listen or care about our financial situation at the time. Also was told my son who has
Ehlers–Danlos syndromes " (a group of rare genetic connective-tissue disorders. Symptoms may include loose joints, joint pain, stretchy velvety skin, and abnormal scar formation. These can be noticed at birth or in early childhood. Complications may include aortic dissection, joint dislocations, scoliosis, chronic pain, or early osteoarthritis".) wasnt eligible for any program or be a member unless dues are paid in full at their price!

In my opinion Everyone is not welcome there!

and a hot tub for those times when I need a little extra TLC. I enjoy the blend of all ages and types. The YMCA makes an improvement in so many lives: children, athletes, working families, and seniors. So many great programs are operating all day, every day - I always get a lift from being there.

Neat Y. No real complaints, except that the clientele was surly and indifferent. I have no idea why. It just felt very.... un-Y-like.. however.....

The front desk guys were outstanding. Super helpful and supportive. Friendly and conversational. The polar opposite, in fact, of the members! Go figure!

The facility was in reasonably good repair, although under some construction. The men's locker room, unfortunately, was abysmal. With towels on the floor and various pieces of workout garb and sneaker accoutrements scattered everywhere. Also, no paper towels.

The wellness center seemed well put together, the equipment in good condition and modern as well. Everything seemed clean, bright, and inviting. Although I never did see any staff there. Not that I needed any, it's just reassuring to see.

All in all, a slightly above-average YMCA experience. I just wish their members would cheer up a little bit. Seize the day!

Not a Christian based company laid off our whole household to hire an outside company . Thanks to them we won't be having holidays this year.

Good place but would not recommend. They charge up the ass when the source gym is non contract and cheaper. The e cash flow they run payments through charges 63 dollars if you are unable to pay the monthly fee directly at the beggining of the month. The staff are nice but have no idea what's going on.
