Mike is a fantastic trainer. I started going to him when I needed someone to help me figure out where to start from ground zero. He really listened to my goals and focuses on how I feel, not how I look—which is exactly what I wanted and needed. His clients are people who he invests in to make them better versions of themselves - not just Before and After pictures.

He picks up on what I need each day and tailors the workout to match. He’s easy to talk to, fun to be around, and always makes me feel supported without judgment. Highly recommend investing in yourself by training at Sparta.

I started working with Mike 9 months ago after a stressful period in which my workouts virtually dropped off completely. I had been exercising (swimming, running, rowing, weightlifting) for over 40 years and I needed someone to help me get back on track. I discovered Mike because he is the highest ranking TRX instructor in Nebraska and I wanted to learn more about suspension training. Well, I have learned about more than just suspension training. Mike is an excellent instructor. He models, observes carefully and corrects form. He could see both bad form and areas of tension and stiffness. In a few sessions, he zeroed in on my weaknesses. In fact, the stability problem he discovered was confirmed when a surgeon later found hip misalignment in x-rays. My stability problem was creating problems in other areas too. The best part about working with Mike, however, is that he goes beyond just having you do exercises to teaching you principles. I’ve learned more about mobility, stability, balance, strength, power, and concentration in these 9 months than I had ever learned before. Indeed, working with Mike exposed all the naïve and wrong ideas I had developed about exercising. I’ve always enjoyed exercising to one degree or another but it was often something that I just needed to get through. I now thoroughly enjoy my workouts and am having fun. I don’t need to listen to music or podcasts to get through them. I’m eager to focus on what I’m doing in the moment because my form is better and the benefits are immediate. The progress I’ve made and the enjoyment I derive from it have had a significant impact on my quality of life. I want to work out to keep moving as I age, and it’s all thanks to Mike.

I can't say enough good things about Mike at Sparta Fitness! His extensive knowledge has great for my son, who is striving to improve his football and wrestling performance. Mike genuinely cares about his clients, working closely with my son on core strength, hip mobility, and recovery. Mike is super friendly and very knowledgeable . He assessed my current level of strength, mobility etc and designed programs/exercises which are tailored just for me. My 15+ desk job gave some bad upper shoulder and neck pain and I have used quick fixes before but Mike's TRX exercises strengthened my back and improved my movements within 2-3 weeks . Mike focuses on functional fitness which is need of the hour. I am glad I went to Sparta Fitness instead of the big box gyms and I simply loved having the whole gym to myself during our personal training sessions. Thank you Mike.

I'm in my late 50's, and have been dealing with lower back and other injury issues for 3 plus decades. I've had physical therapy before, but this is REAL physical therapy. In 3 weeks Mike has made a world of difference in how I feel daily now. He tailors the training to specifically target the issue(s), and does it with documented theory and proven program training plans. He let's you go at your own pace, but motivates you in the right way to go further. Mike does a great job of verbally explaining each step as well as demonstrating proper technique. Each session Mike reinforces his training using effective media and instruction all tailored to the individual during your one on one session. HIGHLY recommend Mike and his program.

Mike has made our workouts fun while still helping me reach my goals as a track and field athlete. Pushing myself while focusing on keeping me healthy and ready for my upcoming meets. He has taught me so much about how to properly warm up and get ready for my competitions so I am truly ready to perform my absolute best week in and week out. He helps me set and reach goals and strives for me to be the best I possibly can, wouldn’t want to go to anyone else. Definitely recommend for athletes and anyone else looking to get in better shape!

Update: Since leaving my initial review Mike and I worked out until I eventually transferred from an NAIA school to a D1 school for track. With his help, support, and the amazing workouts he showed me. I have been able to accomplish so much more as an athlete than I ever would have imagined.

I have been going to Mike at Sparta for a few months now and can honestly say it is the most intentional, effective workout I have had! I have been doing one-on-one boxing training, while also focusing on mobility. Mike is VERY knowledgeable, gives me stretches to do at home to heal up weak parts of my body, and always brings encouragement to my workout. Truly can not say enough good things.
