I was driving through and stopped to get some climbing in. The routes were great but had an awful experience with the front desk guy. We had parked our van out of the way against the back fence and my girlfriend was working remote inside. I heard an announcement that the βvan near the trash cans needs movingβ I lowered the climber I had on belay and headed toward front desk in my climbing shoes. I told the guy that my girlfriend is sitting inside with the keys but Iβll change shoes and head out. He said βyou are not allowed to park there and we need it moved asap.β Unfortunately he said it in a very demeaning way that really took away from a great climbing experience. After moving the van I decided not to go back in based on the bad vibes. To their credit the other person working the front desk when I arrived was awesome and really had his people skills together. Attached is a photo of the parking spot that is clearly not marked βno parkingβ. I hope you have a better experience and that the front desk guy finds a new job not involving human interactions.

This is a fantastic climbing gym. Great setting, fantastic customer service, a ton of space, family and kid friendly. Bouldering area is on point. Enough weight and workout equipment. They could use a little more cardio equipment. Overall one of the better gyms I've been to. Highly recommended.

Awesome climbing gym! The routes are pretty diverse and the gym is clean and modern. Would have given 5 stars, but thay have some pretty stupid rules about teaching/refreshing beley. Staff claims its for safety, but its definitely so they can make more money with a paid class they offer. I experienced this my first time here a couple months ago, and then again as i was leaving today a saw a staff member reprimanding a guy teaching his partner. It really messes up your whole climbing vibe. So make sure if you are bringing a new climber or need to refresh your partner or buddies beley skills, teach them before you come here.
As a 25 year climber who worked at two different climbing gyms, I don't understand how it would a safety concern to teach your partner how to beley. They still have to take the same test regardless if they learned somewhere else or took their class. Side note. The few times i have climbed here. I've observed people climbing with some pretty sketchy beley technique with beley cards. Staff should pay more attention to that then people trying to learn.

A Reno staple for me. The gym is decently sized, has a nice sauna, friendly staff, and friendly people. What I find most valuable for myself is the various fitness classes that they offer from yoga to pilates and targeted stretching with instructors that are super encouraging and knowledgeable. Last thing I want to share, I left a review here about being unable to return a defective water bottle I purchased. The ownership responded almost immediately regarding my return and offered to resolve the issue, which shows that they pay attention to and really care about their clientele. Thought that was pretty awesome, glad to have a membership here!

If you are only a climber, this review isnβt for you. If you are interested in their classes, keep reading:
I gave a 1 Star review because of how management has handled conflict. From shortening Pilates classes suddenly, to canceling Pilates without warning (disrupting handfuls of individualβs routines), to not working with their members in an understanding and empathetic manner. I feel this change could have been handled with a little more grace.
I was a member with them for almost two years. I was initially drawn in by their sense of community. I religiously used their facility about 5 days a week. I started as a climber, but found their Pilates program a few months in and fell in love! Quickly started going 3 days a week, and filling the other days with yoga, ALWAYS followed up with their co-ed sauna.
I really have enjoyed this gym for the time Iβve been a member. Idk what shifted, but things just started changing. The Pilates classes were cut short, then one day without warning, they canceled the Pilates classes indefinitely. Then the sauna caught fire and became unusable for 2 months, so I took that as a sign to cancel my membership.
I wasnβt climbing enough, no Pilates, no sauna, nothing for me. I reached out via phone call to cancel my membership and the staff was super kind, walked me through how to cancel, then informed me that they run the payment on the 10th (I was calling the morning of the 10th), but they will talk to management and make sure I donβt get charged because they hadnβt processed any payments yet. Theyβve been able to catch it before, and the staff assured me I should not be getting a charge, and they would personally talk to upper management.
I did end up getting charged, and when I reached out to resolve the issue, they said there was nothing they could do for me. I was very surprised to hear this. The response from management felt cold after two years of loyalty.
They had no problem being kind to me as long as my bank account was being drafted every month, but the moment I cancel due to my needs no longer being met, their attitude changed.
As a business owner, I understand there are policies, but I also know that for my most loyal customers, you do what you can for them. You never know when that customer will return, or who they will talk to about your business.
In addition, educate your staff on the policies so they donβt tell your members one thing, while management says another.
Nothing speaks more volume than going above and beyond to work with and accommodate your clients.
The facility is beautiful, whatβs more important is how itβs run.
Iβm not saying donβt sign up, Iβm saying cancel or freeze by the 9th, bc there is no wiggle room (even if there is). And donβt get too attached to an instructor or class, bc they donβt have processes in place to replace instructors and prepare their members for upcoming changes.

I can only speak for bouldering not for top-rope climbing.
Entering the wall felt like stepping onto a frozen lake with buttered shoes. The stones, seemingly plucked from a rock-bottom bargain bin, were about as reliable as a one-legged table. For $25, I expected a mountain of excitement, but all I got was a molehill of misery. Save your cash and buy some actual rocks to trip over at home; itβll be more satisfying and less hazardous to your wallet.

First I want to say that this review does not reflect Dom, Josh, or really any of the front desk staff. They do a great job and are very friendly.
However, this is one of the worst gyms I have ever been a member of, climbing gym or otherwise. I was in Reno for 6 months for a travel nurse contract. As a traveler, I visit a lot of gyms and always look for a climbing gym to join. Thought Mesa would be perfect. But...
This place is so DIRTY. The bathrooms and showers are always disgusting. I showered there regularly, the same ball of hair would sit on the wall for DAYS. And the weight room is soooo gross. People regularly have their shoes and socks off in the weight room and put their toes on literally EVERYTHING. And no one wipes anything off. I even saw multiple times people climbing routes completely barefoot, not just campusing!! π€’Also witnessed people climbing in their regular tennis shoes. And I get it, I climb, climbing gyms do get grimy. But I have been in a LOT of climbing gyms - small, large, new, old...never seen one that grossed me out like this place did.
And the kids are out of control. You want to just go lift or use cardio equipment? Good luck fighting kids acting like it's a jungle gym. They say as long as parents are supervising them, they can't do anything about it. Every gym I have ever been a part of has always had a rule of no one under 14 on lifting and cardio equipment. But parents aren't even watching here, they just let them run wild. Oh and if you're not a Team kid at this gym, you are a second or third class citizen. The etiquette of the people directing the Team kids is awful. They'll have kids jump on routes overlapping what you are working on. I was kicked out of an area I was working out in one time because they wanted to play dodge ball there. DODGE BALL. There's a severe lack of free space for doing HIIT workouts, core, stuff like that. So I found one open space and got kicked out for that...And these coaches don't even ask nicely, they just tell you that you need to move out of the way.
I personally didn't love the route setting on the boulders here, though I see the appeal for some people. One gripe I have is that there aren't nearly enough safe downclimb routes. People are regularly getting injured in there because of this. I think the top rope setting was better, but I'm more of a boulderer.
I personally hated the entire culture in this gym. Very misogynistic with lots of "boulder bro's" ...but not in the endearing way.
In summary, if you want a big corporate gym that's dirty with terrible management, and has kids running wild, this is the place for you. If I'm ever back in Reno, I won't be going back to Mesa Rim. I hear better things about the smaller climbing gyms in the area. I just hope this review tells people what I wish I had been told before spending $90/month here.

This is a great gym. Plenty of height, routes, and boulder problems, very kind staff, and a well thought out space to enjoy. However, I don't love that each top route only has one route. Its nice and clean, but requires resetting for each route which is not ideal, especially when bringing kids. Also, its extremely unfortunate that they do not have auto-belays. The aim is for an inclusive gym, but one must foster relationships to enjoy time on the wall. This misses out on a huge subset of population that is introverted and have social anxiety. I could understand the argument of safety years ago, but the technology has advanced and there are solutions available that are equally if not safer than a belay partner. When you have the greatest in Adam Ondra talking about the enjoyment of auto belay training, it might be time to reconsider, especially if the aim is an inclusive space.

Iβve been here twice while I work an out-of-town seasonal job. Iβve had positive experiences every time that Iβve climbed here. The setting is pretty middle of the road when it comes to gyms, not too hard and not too easy. Thereβs also a great variety of terrain (overhanging, slab, vertical, etc.).

If you like Mamma Mia and feeling bad about yourself, then boy is this the right gym for you! Every night you will get to listen to the full Mamma Mia sound track and fall off V3 boulders even though you are climbing V7s at every other gym! This is for sure a competition focused Gym and the rating systems are about as consistent as AT&T cell service. Jokes aside this is one of the best gyms I have ever had the pleasure of climbing at. I regular at this gym and have gotten to know all the staff and climbers intimately. The Mesa community is more of a family and although I hate their music and sandbagged ratings, I have become such a better climber from frequenting this Gym. Basically my second home!

Meh for a $25 day pass I would expect better. Not bad but little things make it annoying to work out here. I actually laughed when I saw how small the locker rooms are, and everyone is all up in there to shower after the sauna. Minor thing, but it would have been nice to have a shelf to put my soap on when I showered.
Also, might just be me but the setting from v1-v4 felt kind of awkward. Like always an easy start and then the crux is suuuper cruxy by comparison and more awkward than difficult, especially the feet. Maybe Iβm out of practice but Iβve never done so much foot matching, weird.
I took one look at the weights area and decided not for me as it seemed totally full, which on a warm Saturday afternoon is not a good sign

We were in town for work, so my friends and I stopped by twice to climb. Both times the attendants were friendly, the gym was very clean, and we had a lot of fun. Just my opinion and not a bad thing, they set on the harder side. Their V3s are V4s or V5s (we only bouldered) that Iβve seen at other gyms. My only feedback is I think they could take safety slightly more seriously or have more attendants corralling; I almost landed on two people (10-13 year olds). I know this is an issue at every gym and we only went twice, just what we observed. Great atmosphere, good climbs, and hope I make it back sometime to use their top rope and lead climbing walls.

Overall the gym is nice, plenty of routes good people.
My issue is with unsupervised children, I almost fell on children multiple times today because they're unsupervised and running under me while climbing or in once case climbing the wall i was already on.
They also will just run up to climb a wall you were waiting for, if my climbing experience is plagued with almost landing on children hurting myself and them. Why am I paying a premium to climb here?
If they stop children from running around or climbing under people bouldering it would be a 5 star experience.

This is an amazing gym and the most impressive I have seen in my 13 years of climbing. Rosie at the front desk is very helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. She is an awesome human being. Besides what youβd normally expect from a gym they have great gym equipment like rowers, kettlebells, wall balls, dumbbells and even a squat rack. What blew me away was the crack climbing, however. If youβre a climber in the Reno area or just passing through like I was you need to come check this place out.

Price is definitely the highest in Reno, especially for a membership. Both Basecamp and North Peak offer more affordable memberships.
However! Mesa has it all. All the amenities, a shiny and new fantastic facility with a TON of top rope, lead, AND boulder options. The tallest indoor walls by FAR. If you want a ton of variety, and price isn't an issue, Mesa may be your gym.
Another plus, is they are the only climbing gym open before 8am.
I appreciate the punch pass option, since I am a Basecamp member, but I appreciate the wide variety of Mesa on occasion!

This gym is a joke for anyone trying to break through a plateau or become more than just "pretty ok". They have a single training board which is supposed to be adjustable angle by design but isn't, two hang boards, a pull up bar or 6 and a couple of cardio machines. No auto belays because of their "high injury rate" but we see frequent visits to the emergency room from their 15+ foot bouldering walls. Think your ok because you don't have a traumatic injury? I can tell you after 13 years climbing and 10 years in medicine that you're knees and back will pay the price eventually. Ive never seen an accident while at Mesa Rim but over the years in other locations I've only ever seen one auto belay fall ever and I've seen 3 major toprope falls all leading to bilateral shattered leg bones and countless dislocated knees, broken ankles, necks and backs from bouldering(some of those were from Mesa rim). Long story short paying for a membership at Mesa Rim is on par with a big city gym but it's about half the climbing 1/10 of the training. No campus area? No 45 spray wall? No adjustable training boards? Bad weights and cardio? Limited wall space and tons of wasted space?Base Camp has better training and equivalent bouldering space for half the price. It's embarrassing that a town with the climbing access and population of reno has the worst gyms I have ever been to. Google Mesa Rim San Diego if you want to see a real gym. Another reviewer was right, if you look past the touch screen waivers and modern look this gym screams 1997 but not cheap memberships like those gyms were. If they ditched the touchscreens and made the walls plywood you couldn't tell the difference. It's obvious why nobody really strong comes out of this area. V10 is average in SLC and Denver and that is directly because they have great gyms that help the climbing scene evolve. That is like...super strong for reno. I have many friends whose names most strong driven climbers would know and some of them are pretty important in the industry on a business level, and more than one has apologized to me for how lacking Mesa Rim Reno is. I can't believe they got youth nationals this year but I would be surprised if that continues. Go to a CWA meeting, learn how it's done and fix it or some day soon a bigger better gym will come along and you'll be obsolete

So much fun, there are challenging and easy rock walls and Boulder walls. The employees are very friendly, there classes for adults and kids that are very fun. One of the best gyms ever. Totally recommended!

This is hands down the best climbing gym I've been to. The setters are constantly setting fun routes. The staff are friendly. The gym is clean and the atmosphere is laid back.

Best gym in Reno! Friendly staff, professional route setting, clean bathrooms, and a great community of climbers. Most are mid twenties and up. I've met many lifelong friends here. Successful people with great knowledge on life! Love you Mesa!!

Mesa Rim is a fantastic climbing gym. They have 55' walls, a whole bunch-o bouldering, a sauna, yoga, free-weights, cardio machines, and the space is just beautiful. During the day, the place is basically empty, no waiting for routes at all. The staff is soooo friendly, and the establishment is run like clockwork. Price is reasonable (except for day-passes, and shoe rentals).

Awesome place! Took the family there for birthday fun. Great climbing, great atmosphere, staff was pleasant and helpful, service was amazing. You can rent everything you need for $7 including kids harnesses and kids climbing shoes. Wore the kids out and the adults didnt want to leave.

Decided to check Mesa Rim out when I was passing through Reno on a road trip, really glad I did. Amazing and clean facility, lots of diverse routes and problems. Boulder problems are definitely rated a tiny bit harsher than some places, so be warned. Overall really solid gym with friendly and helpful staff :)

It was a 30 minute walk from the airport to get to Mesa Rim Climbing Gym. After being on an airplane all day, this is the perfect place to visit the stretch my legs and to relax. The front desk staff was friendly and engaging and made me feel welcome in Reno.

This place is a playground. My friend invited me to rock climb so I bought their week pass ($32 including the gears) and after that week, I've been coming here. Great atmosphere. They have a bouldering section and top rope. They have yoga classes, cardio and weight equipment, sauna. I love this place!

This was a great gym. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Iβm surprise so many of the staff remembered my name and greeted me personally. I have no complaints with this gym. When I found out I was moving away I was actually disappointed that I would not get a chance to workout/climb in this facility anymore.
In two months I went from a 5.6 to a 5.10-. Definitely fun to see myself getting stronger the more I attended this gym. And even the patrons/customers were super friendly and approachable. Well worth the money, in my opinion.

A great selection of fun and challenging routes along with an extensive workout area and excellent yoga classes. The sauna is a bonus and has always been clean when Iβve used it. Overall, a very pleasant space, still feels like plenty of room even when crowded.

Waste of time if youβre a solo climber. No auto belays and stupid rules made up in fear of being sued and with no customer service in mind. Went for a day and got a refund. Go to BaseCamp or hope that Vertical Hold opens a location in Reno.

Would be 4 stars if they had auto-belays. Rates just increased to about $74/month, and $75 initiation fee, for that much $ there should be auto-belays and a little more workout equipment. Routes are good, facility is clean though.

Great place. I just moved back to Reno and previously spent my time climbing outdoors, but its just a tad too cold here this time of year for that. Mesa is clean, the staff is friendly, and they offer awesome yoga classes. Definitely a place to check out no matter your climbing ability.

Some might call it a second home to many. One of my favorite gyms in the country. I have been climbing for 15 years and competed most of my life so Iβve seen a lot of them. My only complaint is that they need a shorter woman to forerun some of the routes so everything isnβt set for a 6β3 man.

I highly recommend the Mesa Rim kids camp as an option for the summer or winter break. My son begs me to come to this camp every break due to the great coaching, positive reinforcement, activities, and unique experience. The coaches are professional and itβs obvious they enjoy working with kids. The facility is top notch as well.

The facility is really nice. The employees are also very nice and helpful. However, as experienced climbers, we are disappointed in the substandard route-setting.
Beginning climbers don't know the difference, usually, but as you progress as a climber you want the routes to be interesting. They should be puzzles to solve. The way Mesa Rim in Reno makes routes harder is to merely make the holds smaller and farther apart. This is equivalent to making a ladder harder to climb by just making the rungs smaller and farther apart. Boring.
Hopefully they will get some better route setters in the future, because it does not matter how fantastic your facility is if your route-setting stinks.
[To be fair, the bouldering section has better routes, on the whole, than the roped climbing areas.]

Thank you for bringing this incredible facility to Reno! I have finally found something that my daughter is passionate about. My daughter is currently taking the twelve week adventure series kids camp. We have also taken some of the Rock Monsters semi private lessons. My daughter loves coach Jen. She is motivating and makes a connection with the kids. The Mesa Rim facility is very clean and spacious. Even though the facility is full of people you never feel like it is over crowded. I highly recommend Mesa Rim!

Wow what a great expierence for the 15 of us from the Reno-Tahoe Winter Senior Games . I was totally taken back by the ability of this group of seniors who i thought would really struggle with this event. I couldn't have been more wrong. Staff was amazing in getting this group of beginners 50 years old to mid 70's to be successful. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we, as a group, will be coming back on a regular basis .Thanks to a great staff - you made our visit so much fun!

Really disappointed after climbing here for a few months. The focus is primarily on top-roping, and they offer no auto-belays (and do not plan to). It's like a throwback to 90's era climbing gyms. Unfortunately l it's 2017. Tough to get a workout in when you spend half your time belaying. Hard to justify the monthly cost, I'm planning on going back to Base Camp.

Mostly great, working out the kinks still. The walls are great, pad system is great, very clean still. Nice minimalist design and ambiance. They do not have towels for showering which I feel is a huge downside. I've never been to a gym that does not provide towels. Overall a good gym.
