Best gym in all of Reno. As a first time mom of a 13mo, I signed up for a membership immediately once my baby turned 1 so we could utilize the complementary Kids Playroom. Some days I go there to take a class, some days I go there to shower and use the sauna. it’s a great form of self care! Staff has been friendly and helpful all- around. Worth every penny.

This club provides a wide array of equipment in a clean, professional, spacious setting and features a mostly professional class of members. The club lacks some features that could make it more of a world class facility including tennis courts, swimming facilities, a dance type room open to members without needing a class, martial arts zone, outdoor seating, and perhaps climbing facilities.

I’ve been a member for 2+ years. Best gym, staff, and location by miles! Since photos show it’s incredibly spacious and well-equipped, I’ll just add the things that are harder to gauge from the outside—fantastic, friendly staff, welcoming and respectful members, no issues parking, and I’ve never seen someone wait for a machine. Loads of options at all hours—and they’re always bringing in new things to try.

I’ve finally found it. After trying out different gyms for a while, this one has made me consistent in my workouts. This gym has it all, and then some. I used to hate going to crowded gyms where I felt I didn’t get to workout what I intended for the day. Here at South RAC there are tons of equipment and space so even when it’s crowded you can get your intended workout in. The staff is super friendly and helpful (shout out Gabe)! If I could give this rating more stars I would. Loveeee this gym.

I have been a member of South Reno Athletic Club for quite some time now, and I can say with confidence that this gym is one of the best gyms i have ever been a member of. when i first moved to Reno i explored the other options (local and commercial) around town but SouthRAC was impressive from the start and i haven't looked back.

To start, the staff is really friendly no matter what hour you go. I am bias however, Gabe has been working the morning shifts for all 6 years i have been a member and he always makes it a point to acknowledge every member that comes through the door and makes them feel welcome. The gym itself is great, filled with all levels of fitness equipment and the layout has only gotten better with time. SouthRAC continues to make adjustments and improvements and it has been really neat watching it grow into what it is today. The facility is well kept and i very rarely feel like i am crowded even at peak times. If you are looking for a great gym with top of the line equipment and great staff South Reno Athletic Club is the place to be.

I’ve been a member at South RAC Athletic Club for 4 years now, and I can honestly say I absolutely love this gym. It has everything you could ever need, from well maintained machines and free weights to group fitness classes and recovery tools. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced, this gym truly supports all fitness levels.

One of the things I appreciate most is how inclusive and accessible the environment is it’s wheelchair accessible and thoughtfully designed for everyone. The energy here is always uplifting, and the staff and community make it feel like more than just a gym, it feels like home.

If you’re looking for a clean, motivating, and fully equipped gym in Reno, I can’t recommend South RAC enough. This place has been a big part of my journey, and I’m so grateful for it!

I've been coming here for years and think its a great gym. It can get crowded after 5pm due to the after-work crowd but I just come before work and can usually get all the machines I need without waiting. My only complaints are that there aren't enough overhead fans or airflow in the gym. Its hot in here for a place where people are working out. Would give 5 stars if they could keep it cooler in the place.
The staff is so kind. Shout out to Gabe at the front desk!
Also it would be nice if they had some kickboxing bags. When I first signed up it was mentioned that was something they were planning to add, but still nothing 3 years later.

SouthRAC is hands down one of the best gyms in the area. It’s super spacious, which makes it easy to get in a great workout without feeling crowded—no matter the time of day. The variety of equipment is impressive and well-maintained, whether you’re into strength training, cardio, or functional fitness. Highly recommend SouthRAC to anyone looking for a top-notch fitness experience!

I LOVE this gym, the staff and trainers are amazing. I am greeted by name and always asked how my day is going. I started pilates with Carolina and total body conditioning with Diane and feel stronger and leaner. They are so encouraging and motivating. They take the time to check your form so you get the best results. I love all the variety of classes South RAC offers. They have great equipment and a variety of workout areas with an indoor track and ramp. This is the best gym and the staff, trainers and members are so friendly, I highly recommend South RAC.

Really nice Gym. I had a subscription for a year. It's pricy but the people are really nice and there is a bunch of free weight equipment and machines. The reason why I give it two stars is so many other people don't actually use the gym as intended but instead spend a ridiculous amount of time filming themselves and it got to the point where I couldn't use certain areas of the gym because "gymfluencers" would take up areas trying to take the right video, watching it, and trying again. I also hated the fact that I was always being watched by people online in the background from these people's recordings. I know not everyone agrees but you shouldn't be able to film in a public gym its just plain inappropriate.

I’ve been going to South Reno Athletic Club for about five years now, and I honestly couldn’t be happier with it. The staff is always super friendly—they greet me by name when I walk in, which makes it feel personal and welcoming, not just like another gym.

The gym is clean, the equipment is in great shape, and there’s plenty of room, so I never feel crowded. I also love the variety—some days I lift, other days I’ll do cardio or just shoot some hoops. Whatever I’m in the mood for, they’ve got it.

One thing that really stands out is how well they take care of the facility. The locker rooms and restrooms are always spotless, which really says a lot about how much pride they take in keeping things nice for members.

If you’re looking for a clean, friendly, and well-run gym with something for everyone, I definitely recommend South Reno Athletic Club.

This is the best gym I’ve ever been to! As someone who explores a lot of gyms while traveling, I’ve never been to a place like South RAC that has some of the best equipment, a lot of it so you’re not waiting around, and so much space to use if you’re trying to do your own thing without anybody else around. They’re also always adding new things and staying up with what’s important in the fitness industry right now. The staff is friendly, the amenities are nice and clean, and honestly, it has ruined all other gyms for me 😂

This is probably one of the best gyms in the city. I personally have had a couple of problems there though they have a giant staff and that’s pretty cool but for whatever reason with that giant staff, they can’t figure out a way to extend the hours. This gym closes so early. Has different hours for different days. Also my credit card expired with these guys and they took me to a collection agency. Yikes. It’s literally the only negative comment I’ve ever had on my credit ever. I spoke to them about fixing that for me and they refused to do so. Their collection agency also refused to do so. No way to resolve. That alone was big enough that it had me wanting to fight somebody. I guess I have to let it go though. I’m giving them two stars instead of one because the gym is pretty awesome. Wish it had better policies though.

Locker rooms are filthy. Dust is layered every where and falls from wooden accents in the bathroom, it looks like the walls haven’t been wiped down ever and every nook and cranny is caked with dirt and debris. The locker rooms are down right disgusting and need a through cleaning asap. I’m surprised the health department hasn’t said anything or this facility hasn’t been reported.

They now get one star because they are forcing people to download the app in order to check in which is ridiculous. I'll be canceling my membership. Also by requiring the app they're violating their contract that you sign forcing them to let you out or abide by the contract which was signed.

Been a member for 4 years. The gym isn't cheap, it's over crowded, parking is tough, and the equipment is in mediocre condition. Staff is nice so no hate on them. What made me write this review though is the fact that now you have to log in with an app. I hate logging in with apps! Like what if I don't want to use my smartphone? What's wrong with a pin or a barcode? Why do I have to figure out your app so that I can use a gym that I pay $100 a month for? Thanks for ruining my workout routine this week and making my life more miserable because you had a new and fresh idea to make people download more apps. All we need as a society more apps.

Nice gym. A tad outdated .Though for Reno it is top notch

What keeps from getting a 5 star are people working out on 2 machines at the same time. The last 3 times I have worked out, I am waiting for someone to finish so I can use that machine
If someone is waiting to use a machine, do not tell them to work in with them, commit yourself to one machine.
Otherwise a 5 star

Great facility, I go here religiously whenever Im in Reno. Best facility, clean, AND they offer hand towels!

EDIT: The upped their prices for visiting guests like me, so I had to pivot to an anytime fitness. Sorry S.RAC, you should reconsider upping $ guest visits, it doesn't increase your margins by much, but deters potential new clients or people like myself who are happy to organically market for you based on a reasonable value proposition.

I've been going to South RAC for about 3 months now and absolutely love it! Everyone is so friendly and there is a large variety of equipment and they are always improving things.

I've been working closely with Sanddon as my personal trainer and he has been great! If you're looking for a trainer that is VERY knowledgable about human physiology and will help you overcome any aliments you may have. I was very hesitant about coming in and training (due to all my previous injuries) but because of Sanddon I am getting stronger everyday and seeing major results!

I also had the opportunity to train under Nasi Karcher (while Sanddon was away on vacation) and can't say enough good things about Nasi. He is great at motivating you and pushing you towards your goals. He will train you until failure which is amazing! He also does the exercises along with you when that's possible and will be your biggest cheerleader. I can't recommend both trainers enough!

Let me start off by saying I own a small business so I take reviews extremely serious, but with the issues I’ve had I wouldn’t recommend my worst enemy coming to this gym. I have a Harley that I have built from the frame up and have put a lot of time and effort into building when I rode it to this gym I parked in the front of there building which shouldn’t be a much as a big deal as they put it out to be. Long story short they put a parking ticket directly on my custom paint that had very strong adhesive so like anyone would I went to the counter asked to talk to a manager told the manager my issues and even apologized for parking there but it went south real fast he said some things so did I now they canceled my membership and my paint is still damaged. As for the gym it’s self I have noticed lack of professionalism from staff besides the older guy that’s alone in the morning everyone else does not care for there gym the way they should. Their equipment is mediocre best and could use a serious upgrade and additional inventory The space is very large and very crowded at times Honestly, there are a lot better gyms you can go to in Reno.

Overall, a great gym.

They have quite a bit of equipment but could totally add more given the sqft. For instance, a pendulum squat would be cool. So would the original nautilus pullover machine and maybe a high to low row machine.

If they were going to add a piece occasionally, it might be cool to vote on pieces. This way, we could get something different that a good amount of people also wanted.

Another qualm is the few gym-goers I see cleaning machines- in particular, cardio machines. It's rare to see someone while down a cardio machine sadly.

Maybe two other ideas.
1 label where the dumbbells go so that they aren't just placed wherever. Small effort for a big payoff.
2 add more mats to the room with the waterfountain. This way, more people can lift on one of these mats. As is, people inevitably need to use the floor, which I think the owners do not like.

But.. this gym has a good vibe and has been great so far.

Been going to this gym for the past 4 years.
Over all it's pretty good gym, best one in Reno probably.
Three biggest let downs are (1) No parking space around the time of people getting off work (5-6PM). (2) This is actually a cause for the third let down I will mention later. The gym's AC is weird, sometimes it is so hot in there! Like uncomfortably hot during summer. (3) Smelly bad. When the gym is hot, it can smell really bad! I clearly remember this one time I had to walk out within 5 mins of checking in because how the smell was making me sick.

Incredible facility. But extremely predatory pricing. $55 a month IF you get a year membership. Otherwise, they charge $159 enrollment fee and another $159 cancellation fee. So basically, once you buy in you're stuck.

Also, $25 for a day pass with no free first time visit.

Also, the hours suck. They close early (7) on Saturdays and early (2!) On Sundays. If the hours were better I'd give it 5 stars.

Edit: in response to the comment below: I was incorrect about the pricing. So if the hours were better it would definitely be 5 stars

Parking is a complete disaster at this gym. For example, just tonight after work I tried to go to this gym, but after driving around the parking lot (front and back), there were ZERO parking spaces - legitimate ones, and the ones that people make up around the perimeter.

For being such a busy gym, I would expect nicer equipment/facilities. There is a grand total of ONE drinking fountain with a bottle filling station built in. I've literally never seen a single worker straightening up equipment, repositioning the spray bottles around the facility, etc. The only thing I've ever seen them do is fill the bottles with their bottle-filling carts, and empty/restock towels. If there's a piece of trash on the ground, it will likely be there until the overnight team cleans it.

One of the showers in the men's room has been broken for weeks. It's a shower - they can't really find anyone to fix a shower? The others have shower heads that constantly drip (a shame living in a desert), or that spray all over the place. There is a mysterious soap offered in the single dispenser in the shower stall, which I presume is hand washing soap?

There's a fair amount of broken equipment around the gym. Treadmills that feel like you're rolling on a bed of big rocks, ellipticals that can't go beyond a moderate step without erroring out, etc. The barbell clamps are often missing, so one must cannibalize other clamps from other stations. It seems like the owners have given up, and as long as it's busy and has many members, they'll watch it fall apart more and more.

The people there are really nice - that's a pro. But the rest isn't so great.

I just wanted to take a moment to share what a transformational experience I've had since joining the South Reno Athletic Club (Southrac) this past summer. I signed up in July 2021 in an effort to regain my strength and stamina after a debilitating 7 month battle with cancer that left me an emaciated 147 pound man.

Because of my poor condition I felt like a personal trainer was in order and I was introduced to Melanie Dealba. She accurately assessed my sad state and put together a very well-organized and progressive training program. To say it's been a transformational experience is an understatement. Not only have I put on a lean 20 lbs since I started working with Melanie, but my balance, coordination and stamina have all gotten to levels I haven't enjoyed since college (I'm 54).

Due to my erratic schedule I recently added another personal trainer, Lee Morehead, to my regimen and he has picked up right where Melanie left off. What I love is that they each bring their own extensive knowledge and unique skill-set to my training so I'm never doing the same workout twice which has kept my body in a constant state of "unease" resulting in maximum results. You can tell Melanie and Lee are both HIGHLY trained professionals who really enjoy their jobs which is also a direct reflection on the management of Southrac. Happy employees equals extremely happy and satisfied customers like me.

The facilities themselves are clean, expansive and very well run. The staff is always super friendly and they never fail to greet me with a smile. So a HUGE thank you to Melanie, Lee and everyone else at Southrac . You've absolutely changed my life for the better.

This place is absolutely amazing. Great facility and great staff. I would have totally come back for a membership after Covid have pass, but this place receives a 1 star review because of one major problem I had with their cancellation/business tactic. I requested to cancel my subscription since I haven't been to the facility in over about 4 months and I request if they can take those payments as my cancellation fee due to hard times with COVID and literally have not used the facility. However, I was given two options to cancel. One - was not even a option but to complete the 12 month payment, which make no sense. Two, was to pay the cancellation fee and that is okay. However, they decide it would be a good idea to put special verbiage in the email "If we do not hear back from you via this email within 3 business days, we will continue your membership through the last billing date as described in OPTION ONE"... Option one is not a option... As for the disclaimer "*Disclaimer. The contents above will be considered approved by the requester if no reply is provided within 3 business days. If there are any questions or concerns regarding this content you must reply to this email which will serve as your documentation. We reserve the right to correct a dollar amount if an incorrect number was cited." Absolute shark like business tactics.

Great place that is oversized which is a great thing. Never feels crowded even though its very buzz around the clock. The equipment is good and maintained. Amazing staff and the people just "get it" when it comes to etiquette. Worth the few extra dollars a month for so many reasons.

Sat Aug 3rd 10 am gym should have been shut down from extreme chemical fumes/odor most likely from incorrect mixture of floor cleaning chemicals. Unknown at this point how hazardous this is to gym members and employees health. Its been over 5 hours and I'm still rinsing my eyes with water due to severe irritation. OSHA has been notified of this very serious and irresponsible action.

Overpriced, parking is a nightmare, and the contracts are outrageous. Signed up August 8th of 2018 called to get info about cancelling my membership as I have moved and no longer live near the gym. They advised that since my first month was a prorate I would have to pay 13 months total instead of 12. The cancellation fee is more than my next two payments so I’m stuck paying for this gym. The membership is 50 a month and the gym is actually fairly nice but parking is an absolute joke, partly due to members not knowing how to park but also the lot is no where large enough for the amount of people who attend this gym. Locker rooms at clean, equipment is nice although they are missing about half their dumbbells on the second story, and the facility is actually beautiful. All that being said the cost, and contract is holding this place back. New members should wait for crunch to open at the mall and avoid this place.

Worst gym experience of my life. Crowded gym, and poor class schedules. This cost me over $500 to get out of this place. They clearly do not care about their customers or they would have tried to make this right. There are so many other gym's in reno and sparks area that are a way more affordable and have strong costumer care. Do yourself a HUGE favor please go to any other gym, but this gym!!! Worst mistake I made in a very long time. Save yourself the problems.

The facility is nice. However the process to have my membership canceled was not. I moved out of state and cancelled my membership. I have been charged for over a year now and called to speak to someone about my account which they couldn’t find then a receive a call the next day and they stated I never cancelled my membership. I physically went in to cancel my membership but did not get documentation just a verbal confirmation that my account was canceled. My account is inactive and has been for well over a year. If you need to cancel your membership with this gym make sure you get documentation of cancellation.

Best gym in Reno. They have all the weights and machines you could want. There's multiple basketball courts and racket ball courts. There's also a padded track as well as large turf areas that accommodate multiple training styles. Due to the size of the gym it hardly ever feels crowded. Love it here!

This gym is horrible, I told them that I had a people that went to they gym that were harassing me and stalking me and tried to cancel my membership without a fee since they circumstances and they wouldn't waive the fee. When I did a stop payment from them with my bank they changed their merchant ID and charged me anyways for each monthly charge. Not to mention every time I went there everyone that worked there on the business side were all rude. Also there isn't much to do at this gym anyways. DEFINITELY recommend NOT going here, they scam you and don't care about your safety!!

This is a really nice club. The staff is really nice. I belong here but rarely work out here because there are too many "nesters" on equipment (people hanging out in the equipment doing multiple sets who are resting for more than 5 minutes and won't let others work in, even when nicely asked). I end up using a lesser club because I can keep moving. Wish the management would somehow encourage members to be considerate of equipment use.
