Ascent is the best blend of group fitness with personal training. I like that you can do your own thing while still being in a small group environment. Anna, Matt, and Stacy are super helpful and the right amount of motivating. I'm a little over a month in and look forward to my workouts!

I look forward to my gym time each week! The owners are welcoming and the vibes of the other gym-goers are super friendly. I’ve never been someone who wants to spend even a second of my free time in a gym, Ascent turned that right around and now I’m working out as often as I can manage! The coaches are so approachable and have your best interests in mind, making it such a beginner friendly place free of those toxic attitudes you’d be worried about encountering elsewhere. Their scheduling is very flexible and the mix of group classes and personal training classes offers a lot of financial flexibility as well. Also worth noting that every workout is full of laughs, and who wouldn’t love that?

I am so grateful to attend Ascent Training and Performance. Anna & Matt & Stacy are not only phenomenal human beings but they are amazing fitness experts who truly understand the goals of the individuals who become apart of the beautifully curated community. The questions I have about my program are answered in real time and as well as positive feed back about what I am doing to keep me safe. They and the rest of their clients are fantastic work with. The facility has great parking and the playlists are fire. People talk about body positivity and positive vibes as trending catch phrases. At Ascent Fitness, a person can expect a genuine, enthusiastic, hopeful atmosphere which grows confidence from the inside out. At Ascent Fitness, a person can cultivate and nurture worth, acceptance, respect, admiration, and unconditional regard for themselves within their own body.

My PT told me I needed to start weight training if I ever wanted to stop getting injured, and recommended Ascent. Best decision I ever made. The coaches are amazing, supportive, and totally understanding of where I am in my abilities and confidence and are happy to model or modify moves. I felt shy in the first class I took, but that soon fell away as everyone (figuratively) embraced my presence, helped me understand the moves, and cheered me on. The best part of Ascent is that it truly is inclusive - whoever you are, wherever you are in your journey with your body, the coaches AND fellow gym goers are all there to support you.

Here's the thing: I grew up an athlete but then didn't really like the other meatheads or being around them. So I've never found a gym I liked. Until Ascent. I came to help me train for roller derby. I stay because I love that this gym has values of inclusivity and body positivity that they actually live by and because it's fun. I swear it is. Even if you don't like to lift, you can distract yourself with warm conversation and good folks. Ascent is for everyone and especially people that don't think they're gym people.

I had lost my way on my fitness journey for a few years and I never thought I’d find another gym to call “home.” After the first day of my trial week, I was IN. Matt and Anna have been welcoming and supportive since literally Day 1. I was 6 week postpartum and so nervous about basically starting over but was immediately made to feel like I belonged.
There are no sales pitches or gimmicks, just coaches who truly want to get to know you, challenge you, and help you reach your goals, whatever they may be. Ascent is a space where people can be themselves, pick up heavy things, and have some laughs.
In a world of toxic gym spaces, Ascent is a magical unicorn of a gym and I’m grateful it exists!

For a good while, I've been interested in getting into a gym routine; however, I have pretty bad social anxiety, and I struggled to find a place/gym culture that would work for me. That all changed when I met coaches Matt and Anna at Ascent. They welcomed and embraced me as an entire person, and I have felt supported in my gym journey ever since! I also love that their small group personal training sessions allow me to experience a personal training feel, while also fostering a sense of camaraderie and remaining affordable. I was referred to Ascent Training and Performance by my physical therapist. She had been treating my lower back pain and suggested that strength training may help me build core strength, and help me with my back pain. I connected with Coach Matt through their website and met with him for an assessment of how I move, range of motion etc. I agreed to the free week trial and had a program crafted for me, taking into consideration modification of some movements that cause pain. I went to 3 small group personal training sessions. I loved it! Matt and Anna are very supportive and helpful….true coaches! Fitness for Every Body is their goal, no matter your size, shape or ability. I have continued small group training and have seen improvement in my back pain, even on days when my back hurts when I get there, it feels better when I leave. I cannot recommend Matt and Anna enough! I have told many people looking for small group training about my experience, I am happy to support their mission and their work!
Follow up May 2024: I have been training with Matt and Anna for almost 2 years, the longest I have ever stuck with any type of fitness or exercise program. I have minimal back pain and have progressed in my fitness journey to include exercises like deadlifts, bench presses and too many squats to count. I continue to enjoy the positive and accepting environment and feel very comfortable training at this gym.

I have been a member at Ascent for a couple of years now. I joined to learn about strength training, proper form, and methods to reach my fitness goals but ascent has done that and so much more for me. The Ascent trainers use the small group training philosophy, and it's really a great way to get coaching when training. The coaches listen and do their best to meet all their clients' needs. I went to Ascent with a recommendation from my Nutritionist. With a complicated history with eating and exercise, she suggested it as an alternative; a place that isn't monotonous or shameful on how you look, but one with welcoming arms for all. I was skeptical at first, but my anxieties were quickly eliminated on my first meeting with Matt and Anna. These two are absolutely wonderful, inspiring people. They make you laugh, know your personal life, and are always seeing how they can help. I went with their personalized plan option, and I quickly found myself surpassing the weights I struggled with in the past. I was happily surprised which encouraged me to push harder. They understand the mechanics, ensure you're in the right position preventing injury, and want you to go at YOUR pace. Depending on my energy levels, I can easily modify workouts. This is for all those going, not just the personalized plans. I can't say I've ever looked forward to a workout, especially at a basic gym, but now I do not fear showing up.
With all that being said, I can't recommend them enough. If you are looking to move your body without the negative stigma, give Ascent a try. You might just be pleasantly surprised. And they give you a week free, so no strings attached if its not your vibe. However, I think it just might be (:

I've recently joined Ascent after a back surgery and several years out of a gym routine. Finding a place of comfort and trainers willing to listen and work with what I need was important to me. After a great intake with Matt, and my first few sessions with Anna, I've found my home. The class size is perfect and the energy levels are great. The members I've met have been amazing and I feel like I've found a great little tribe. I highly recommend giving them a shot if you're looking for a great gym with high level trainers and a wonderful atmosphere.

Love this place! I can't say enough about this gym and the trainers, Anna and Matt! They helped be prepare for hip surgery and then recover after. Their small group personal training was exactly what I needed. They worked closely with my physical therapist to compliment what I was doing at PT. I highly recommend them whether you're just starting out or someone experienced with working out. They are patient and help you through all the exercises they put into your program.

We love coach Anna and Matt! Our son (who is 12) has been working with coach Matt as he's said he wants to learn to lift weights. As his parents, we want to make sure he learns how to do this properly as he grows so that when he's on his own older, he's less at risk of a potential injury. We want our son learns how to get the foundations of movement down. Needless to say it's been amazing watching our little guy love doing weights with coach Matt, he looks forward to his sessions and Matt makes them so fun. He's incredibly relatable, supportive and a great fit.
I have been doing personal training with coach Anna and absolutely love how she is helping me to meet my goals of wanting to do more weight training. Aside from the virtual weights classes I've done for years, this is so much better. I'm deadlifting, squatting and doing a lot of exercises with coach Anna that I wouldn't feel comfortable doing otherwise on my own, unsupervised in a gym. I'm so pumped to continue to see my gains.
These two are just amazing. They truly can help anyBODY and I encourage you to let them do that! Our little fit family is so grateful for Ascent.

On my first day trying a class at Ascent I knew this was the right gym for me. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly, and Ascent has created an amazing community. I have always suffered with “gym anxiety” but the coaches at Ascent made me comfortable right away and I am never anxious in their gym space. Best place for a workout in Concord!

I worked with Anna for about a year. She heard me and saw me and formulated a program that met and exceeded my needs. It stretched me with out breaking me. Anna move to Concord was a sad day for me, because the distance made it impossible to continue working with her. Anna knowledge, support, and focus is the best I have seen in my many years of having trainer. I would recommend Anna and team for any age group and in any physical shape.

Just had my 66th birthday. I've been working out with Matt and Anna for 7 months now. I've been a martial artist for over 25 years. Yet in the best physical condition that I've been in since I was in my early 20's. Consistently working out with them 3 days a week. Very well designed, interesting, individualized monthly programs that are modified as needed (prn).

Ascent is truly the best gym I've ever been to. As a chronic "I'm going to get healthy this year" person, I've tried many different gyms and exercise programs throughout the years with little to no success. But Ascent is so different than other gyms. Matt and Anna are both incredibly knowledgeable coaches who take the time to get to know each member and their individual goals, and then they create amazing workout plans for you. I have never been a regular exerciser. For a myriad of reasons, I decided that I wanted to improve my health this year. I have tried working with a personal trainer in the past and found it to be an uncomfortable experience. A drill sargent type, who would not meet me at my fitness level, but overworked me until I could barely walk to the locker room. After a few years, I decided to give personal training another try. I found Ascent Training and Performance when I was searching for personal trainers near me, and I’m so thankful I did! I have felt respected and supported by both Coach Anna and Coach Matt from day one. They know my goals and are helping me get there. They know when to encourage you to try a little harder and when it’s better to go slow. There is never any shame in this gym. I have been going now for seven months, and, as I type this, I can’t believe I’ve stuck with any exercise regimen for so long. I’m seeing myself getting stronger and consistently surprised to learn I could do more than I ever thought. Moreover, ATP is a community. Every time I go, there are kind people to work out with and talk with. This gym is welcoming in every way.

Matt and Anna are great coaches that align with my values of coaching as well. They assess their clients prior to beginning any training program. This is huge! As a physical therapist referring clients to them, I completely trust the care that is given. We have been cohesively working together collaborating with client care now for a few years. Ascent is incredible! The coaches are super knowledgeable and accommodating to all, and expand that knowledge even further to be able to provide specialized assistance from person to person. This is not a place where you will receive a cookie-cutter program that you have to try to make work for you. Instead, the coaches get to know you and your goals and create personalized programs which help you continue growth and strength month-to-month. The atmosphere that has been created by ascent is so incredibly helpful and positive, trainers and clients alike are super fun to be around. I had never truly strength trained before joining ascent and was skeptical of my abilities in doing so, but coaches Matt and Anna took the time to build my strength from the ground up and I am continually impressed with the progress that they have helped me make. Whether you are looking for small group personal training or more so of a class-style program, ascent is a fantastic choice!

Matt and Anna have created an amazing space for high quality training in a professional and inclusive environment. After a few injuries and feeling uncomfortable in a lot of gym settings, I was so happy to find a gym that listened to my goals, worked around my injuries, and treated me with respect. I have been attending small-group personal training classes at Ascent since September 2021. I was nervous about returning to fitness after experiences of feeling unmotivated and nervous at other gyms - especially after recently having recovered from a life threatening chronic illness most of my life. Fitness felt out of reach. I was introduced to Matt and Anna through my significant other, who knew them from prior to Ascent opening. I took the leap to join and have never been happier about a decision. I attend three times weekly, but I see that they make sure every person regardless of availability gets the most out of their time with them. Each session is catered to me, I have a coach who knows me and has learned my body and it’s needs as well. We speak honestly each session about how I am feeling and rework exercises as needed to ensure I am safe and progressing. They are flexible in times of need, like after the recent loss of my stepfather - Matt was extremely receptive and explained that the stress and emotions may affect my performance, so I did not get discouraged. They are amazing coaches - and their mission to ensure everyone and every body - is seen and feels comfortable in their space is what I really love. Highly recommend for anyone on any level, they’re great people and I can’t wait to see how far they go!

THIS IS YOUR GYM – LOOK NO FURTHER!! When I moved to NH from Somerville MA, one of the first things I did was research gyms. I had found myself frustrated and settling for at least 3-4 gyms until finding ASCENT. I was looking for a gym that would promote "health" over diet culture and encourage feeling strong through movement over before and after pictures. I can't say enough great things about this place.
I do both class and semi-private training so there are options depending on what you are looking for. At my initial intake, Matt asked me questions about what I was looking for in my gym experience, and how I wanted to grow. No other NH gym I tried, was as thoughtful or intentional. Both Anna and Matt take the time to really get to know you resulting in workouts that tailor to your goals. I am an OT and I take form very seriously, Matt and Anna are extremely knowledgeable. They both take the time to explain and correct poor compensatory patterns to maximize your workouts and avoid injury. They are also great at modifying for injuries without letting you fall behind.
The members are just as welcoming as the coaches. I have an hour commute and work long days which is an easy excuse not to go to the gym but I get excited to go to class! Matt and Anna not only introduced this much needed mission of a gym but also a friendly- inclusive community. So if you are looking for heavy Olympic lifts, just to move your body or everything in between…. this is the gym for you because everyBODY is worthy.

Anna and Matt are the best! If you are anything like me and get completely clueless as what to do at the gym, then these two will help you figure it out! They will work with you to find out what your goals are and develop a program to help get you there. I started working them about 4 years ago and I have never regretted it. I honestly believe you couldn’t find two better people for the job, they will always make you feel welcome and comfortable no matter where you are on your fitness journey.
