I joined about 6 months ago and have loved it. Averill's is a genuinely great community, it's a fabulous way to get fit in a fun and supportive way, and it's a great way to gain an appreciation for the sport of boxing (they also offer kick boxing and Tai Chi).

Joining Averill's has been a great experience - I came in looking for a unique workout, but I've really come to enjoy learning the art of boxing itself. It’s rare to find a place where beginners feel comfortable right away, but the supportive environment here makes it easy to stick with it and keep improving. The classes bring a solid challenge while allowing you to build skills at your own pace, no matter your starting point. It’s a welcoming space that makes me look forward to every session.

Coach Paul is awesome. The boxing class is great and we get to spar if we so choose. Coach is always offering ways to improve along with good drills and exercises.

I've been going to Averills since 2005. Coach Paul is not only a very knowledgeable combat sports instructor with many years of experience, but also a great mentor. He's really helped me through tough times in my life. A typical gym is boring to me. Averills is the only place around that provides me with a place to workout that's also physical (combat sports). He caters the workout to what you're interested in. If you want to become a great boxer or kickboxer, he can help with that. If you just want to get in shape, he can help with that too. I'll be going here forever.

I've had the pleasure of training at Averill's for the past number of years, and it has been a fantastic experience! Coach Paul takes the time to ensure you know the basics and finds fun and interesting ways to continue growing your skills and technique. The overall atmosphere is perfect, whether you're brand new or a seasoned pro. Highly recommend Averill's!"

Averill's Martial Arts Academy has been my sanctuary and my motivation for the past 7 years. Every time I walk into Averill's, I feel safe, respected and encouraged to do my best. Coach Paul has gone above and beyond for me and all of the students that he teaches. I have learned so much in kickboxing, and so much about myself through this gym. Coach Paul cultivates such an incredible community and atmosphere in this gym, and is one of the most incredible teachers anyone could ask for.

I came into this gym 7 years ago with two left feet and lackluster self confidence. Thanks to Averill's, I am now not only sure of myself but very sure in my ability in the sport of kickboxing.

I will always be so grateful and would recommend Averill's to anyone.

I've had an incredible time at Averill's Martial Arts the last three years. The atmosphere is truly wonderful. Coach has not only honed my martial arts abilities but also imparted valuable life skills. Moreover, I've had the pleasure of meeting an amazing group of people, making every session not just about training but also a lot of fun. Highly recommend for both the physical and personal growth it offers.

Been going to Averill’s for almost 7 years and it has taught me a lot of useful things! Many options whether you’re looking to join for self defense, social life, fun, losing weight- they provide it all. The atmosphere is incredible and the other members are helpful and kind. Paul is an excellent coach who tends to everyone’s needs and goals. We also do things outside of the gym such as member outings so we can all bond outside of the gym, too. I’ve made a lot of friends and have built forever lasting relationships. I am proud to be part of the Averills community.

TL;DR Coach Paul fractured my rib then charged me for months of membership I couldn’t use because I was injured and made cancelation as difficult as possible.

The coach here, Paul, misjudged a punch and fractured my rib during what he promoted as a "core strengthening exercise,” where students stand arms raised in front of him and he punches their core. I went to the doctor later that week for an x-ray which showed it was fractured and I was told it would take a couple weeks or months to heal. I tried to stop by in person a handful of times to let him know but the place was always closed, the hours are sporadic and not listed for the public.

When I realized my rib was taking a while to heal, I called a couple months later to cancel my membership. He did not answer the phone, but I left a voicemail explaining the situation. I was called back and was told I needed to cancel in writing in person. I stopped by in person, but the place was closed so I left a note.

A month later I had not heard from him, so I put a stop payment order on my bank account. He tried to bill me again and he called me stating I owed him a debt and I needed to come in person to cancel. I came in person again with a copy of the original note which he accepted and gave me a check refunding the last charge, with my name spelled incorrectly.

He tried to say his methods are to ensure his students have an enjoyable experience. This was a terrible experience and cost me hundreds of dollars in medical bills and membership payments for a membership I couldn’t use.

His classes were fine but this was such a terrible handling of this situation. He fractured my rib then hounded me for membership dues for a membership I couldn't use because I was injured, denying/dodging my attempts to cancel.

I've been at Averill's for a bit over 3 years now and I can't say enough to describe how great it has been. First off, the instruction and attention to detail that every student receives, no matter what skill level, is second to none. This school will give you useful tools and confidence, all while getting a great workout! We work hard but it's a good atmosphere with good people. Whether you want to fight, train or just workout with a great group, I would highly recommend Averill's to anyone of any age to come in and experience the fun for themselves!

My daughter has been getting lessons from here for over 6 months and loves it. The coaches take care every student gets individual attention and are progressively learning a great sport, core values and a discipline that can be used for a lifetime. I couldn't recommend them enough for anyone both young or old experienced or amateur, to learn boxing or kick boxing.

Started here last summer, and can't say enough amazing things about Paul as a coach. From the first day, I was treated with respect and warmth, and was challenged every time I walked in to be the best I could be. I was coached well, given support and critique, and got an incredible, disciplined workout every time I entered. Paul and his wife run a wonderful small, close-knit business! If you're looking for an incredible workout, to train to fight, or learn self-defense, I HIGHLY recommend Averill's!
