I work in Rye, and my coworkers go to this location and recommended it to me. I liked that it was spacious and there were plenty of machines. I even noticed there’s two of the same lifting machines, which I loved. There was also a really nice guy at the front desk who acknowledged me and shared a conversation with me. I’ll definitely be coming back, as I just moved to this area and have been experimenting with the different locations with my black card.

I’ve been going to Planet Fitness for several years now. I find it to be always clean and seldom crowded. The front staff is friendly and generally the folks going are respectful. The machines are rotated and if you don’t know how to use it, there are bar codes that teach you everything you need to know.
I am a frequent traveler and enjoy going to other locations to work out.

From our first meeting with the smiling woman at he front desk, through our interview/orientation, we knew we were going to like being a part of thre Portsmouth, NH Planet Fitness experience. It still feels like the staff got up each morning just to make sure Pam and I are welcomed as very special guests. The facility, equipment, and people make it a great experience for us, three days each week. We've been to quite a few Fitness Centers in Maine, Florida, and now, New Hampshire, and Portsmouth is the best.

Loving planet fitness. My husband and I come 3xwkly Monday-Friday morning. The facility is bright, clean and very well maintained. The staff is always friendly, kind and helpful. All these qualities speak to the excellence of the management staff and we appreciate it. Reminds us of how we feel about Trader Joe’s, staff is helpful and behave like they love their jobs.

Staff was super friendly and everything was clean. My favorite part is that they have benches in a separate room so I could do my booty workouts in a semi-private area, with plenty of extra weights, and they are cushioned benches!

I have used the Planet Fitness in Portsmouth, Stratham NH and the one in Newburyport, MA for the last 4 years. Of course all these gyms are similar in size, equipment, demographics, and such. I truly enjoy the variety of equipment I can use there. I do wish they had SOME free weights and long bars. With that said, I'd also like for the restrooms to be cleaner habitually. Lastly, I find it astonishing that none of these gym facilities have an INDIVIDUAL handicap restroom. My wife is in a wheelchair and I need to assist her when going to the restroom or she can't use it. I can't help her when at the gym because the handicap stall is INSIDE the women's bathroom/shower room. Thus, my wife CANNOT utilize the restroom when we go to train at Planet Fitness. I honestly find this unacceptable.

Staff was rude and unhelpful and lied to me. Cancelled my membership online after they tried to tell me I couldn’t. Not sure why they wouldn’t just tell me I could do so online, why lie repeatedly? Just be helpful and nice. Not coming back. I’m also canceling because your manager called me to harass me for no reason about a survey. How about instead of obsessing over reviews you clean your gym and don’t need to try to intimidate the people who pay to go there.

I work with an individual with a disability, during the summer he likes to ride the bike at planet fitness in Portsmouth! He loves it there and staff is always inviting to him and myself. I ended up with a membership myself . The staff has made this environment a safe and nice place to be. 10 out 10 would recommend.

Up to date on equipment. Small stretching area. Clients have a few bad apples.Rude weight slammers and people who don't wipe down equipment when they finish. The staff was professional. Locker room is upkept rather well. Not many tall lockers. Shower shelf is angled so your soap bottle will fall on the floor. Overhead pipes were dusted. Feels a little crampt in the workout area. A good amount of parking 🅿️ but can be busy.
30 Minutes workout room and relaxing massage chairs. I've noticed that some of the equipment is used by physical therapists at their offices.
Ab exercise machines are together in one area.
I've had a better experience recently so I will add a ⭐.
Update: November 2023; I like the hydro massage chair better than the bed.

Great value, clean, helpful staff. My only concern is that there is no attempt to enforce gym etiquette. Some people sit on the machines for a very long time. Others hog the Smith machines, bringing over dumbbells and barbells so they can "reserve" the machines between their sets. It seems to me the least they could do is put up a poster or two outlining appropriate workout behavior, but management seems uninterested.

Fine location, typical of every other PF I've been to in NH & MA. Clean, courteous, tons of cardio and usual amount of strength training machines and free weights. The stretching and functional training area is tiny, however. Would like to see them reprioritize the space and make a larger, dedicated functional training area like in Stratham or Londonderry locations.

Overall, the gym is all right. Some Arch machines would definitely be better than the slew of ellipticals and treadmills, many of which go unused. Variety! Otherwise the air quality, unless you’re under the overhead fans, is poor. High humidity, a big problem, nixes many great workouts in the summer for the serious cardio-minded. I’ve actually had to get off stair-climbers because of slipping on my own sweat, and I don’t sweat easily.
In the early spring, late fall, and winter the temp is much more conducive to a a great workout. That means PF skimps on AC. Lastly, I’ve seen four or so employees just standing around at the front desk—a sign of the times.

Yet again, John, the manager of Planet Fitness, has managed to make the studio on Lafayette Rd the place to be. If there’s an issue, he steps on it and gets it sorted. The new staff he has there are polite and happy to help. A big thumbs up for them, and it would be nice if corporate would recognize their hard work and give them a smile in their raises!!! All in all, a good place to be.

Employees are friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and quick to respond to customer needs. The gym is kept very clean with constant attention from employees -- mopping, vacuuming, dusting and cleaning equipment. Extra amenities such as massage chairs, hydro massage, etc. are almost always available. Sanitizing liquid and paper towels are readily accessible. Women's room is spotless. The music is not loud and neutral. This is not a social gathering type gym but a serious workout facility. I've used other facilities and PF is superior.

Pros:
I love this gym.
Facility is always clean and picked up - I love that -10/10. I have never seen a machine out of order here aside from general maintenance. I love the step-mills here; they’re much smoother than others I have tried.
No free squats obviously… whatever that’s fine. I can work with smith machines and free weights.
Staff is fantastic. They’re always willing to help and always have a smile on their faces!

Cons:
I do wish there was more room for stretching - there IS room for it but it can be tight with a loaded gym. I’d recommend going between 9-2 if you need a decent amount of space for those types of workouts.

I've been a member of PF for 16yrs, both in NBPT, MA and here in Portsmouth. Recently I've been unable to connect to any of the overhead TVs while working out on the elliptical, rowing machines or stationary bikes. I mentioned it to staff and they did try to assist but were unable to help. They also mentioned that others had had similar problems. There seems to be a connectivity issue with the jacks on these machines. It's recent, as in less than a week. You have an entire wall of TVs, front to back. They should be accessible to your customer during workouts, right? Thanks.

I AM extremely disappointed with the staff , especially the manager, Kristina. I rejoined in March of 2021 and sue to serious health issues, not once did I attend. The end of July of 2021 I wanted to discuss my situation with the Kristina only not get a return call( I have time and date). Understanding I waited a week no. I go in to speak with her and her staff just laughed me because of the way I was dressed. Anyways, I wanted to speak with in private, instead she was rude, disrespectful, raising her voice at me Infront of her staff and members. Unprofessional, unacceptable and rude. KARMA SENT.

Passing through, stopped twice. First day, Staff was to busy playing on their phone , to clean and organize. My workout’s usually are about 2-3 hours. In most PF’s I’ll see someone walk through and check the cleaning stations. Not here. Members were the rudest bunch I’ve come across in our travels to multiple PF. Most of the Local members are expecting someone to clean after them. Day 2 the manager was checking the cleaning station, so someone does clean once and a while. Lastly, if I lived in this area I would find another place to workout. In the 2 days working out, 4 regular members, jump on the machine I was using when stepping away for a break.(About 5 ft from the machine). Not hello are you still using it, just jump in like they own the place. Glad we are moving on and hope I NEVER return to this PF. Honestly in my opinion this Place deserves 1 star, but a few of the members were polite and friendly(only a few).

Cleanliness at gyms are crucial. All Planet Fitness gyms I have been to are clean and sanitized. That is more important than the anything else. The equipment are free from any damages, therefore it is a safe place to workout.
