Sent written cancellation notice and was billed for 3 months after notice. Went in person and was told to email management. Emailed management and received no response and they continued to bill me for the month. Shady business, dirty equipment, only 2 power racks. Do not go here.

The zoo shut down the location near my house without any emails or courtesy calls. They didn’t let members know they were closing - they just left an handwritten sign on the door. Then wouldn’t let me out of my membership even though I don’t live near another club. The company is terrible and all they care about is taking your money. I’ll never go to a zoo health club again.

These guys some years back cancelled my brother’s subscription instead of mine when I had requested cancellation, then wouldn’t refund me for the time I wasn’t at the gym because I had cancelled and THEY messed up. Still pissed over those $120.

The dude I talked to on the phone called me broke for complaining. Absolutely trash company.

Love this gym, been going here since 2019. My only complaint is the water, hoping to get filtered water. The water here tastes awful. I want to rehydrate after a work out but find it hard because the water tastes like metal. Please, it does not cost much money, myself and other members want clean filtered water.

Update: 7/17/25

Water fountain was upgraded couple months ago. Gym has progressively gotten better. The new water fountain is fantastic, the water comes out fast and tastes better. The zoo is the place to be!

My fiancé and I have been going to this gym since 2021 and love everything about it. My only complaint about this gym is it lacks upgraded equipment. This gym has so much potential and it would be great to have more glute/leg focused machines along with arm/back machines. We went to a gym in Florida while on vacation and it wasn’t the newest gym but it had such great equipment that made it something for everyone, and they were ALWAYS playing such fun music, I would recommend this gym to anyone but would suggest upgrading the equipment!

I joined the Zoo in mid-January 2025 and immediately got assessed by a trainer. At first, I figured I'd listen to the free assessment, as it may help me figure out what to do and how to get started, however I very quickly realized that I need more guidance and accountability with my new personal fitness journey. I have never really worked out and am definitely not what you'd call athletic or even active. I work at a desk for 12 hours a day and have had a lot of weight gain since menopause. Then cancer and chemo kicked my rear end, and I didn't have any energy or stamina at all. So joining a gym and now signing a contract for a personal trainer was intimidating. I was very nervous that i wouldn't like it or stick with it. I signed up for 6 sessions per month to start and i was so blessed to be paired with Frank as my trainer.
All I can say is THANK YOU FRANK!!!! Frank immediately assessed my needs and abilities and built a program that I not only can handle, but I really enjoy. For the first time in my life i enjoy working out. Frank keeps it interesting. I don't just use machines; in fact, I really don't use them at all unless I'm on my own. With Frank I flip giant rubber tires across the room, I have learned to box, I wear weighted vests and pull literally Frank himself on a wheeled cart around a giant building outside, and so much more. He's creative and my workouts are interesting, different and so much fun! I went back after about a month and increased my training sessions to 3x per week because I am really enjoying myself, and better yet, I feel amazing. I feel stronger. I have more energy and stamina. I find myself able to do more at home that I wasn't able to do before. I have also joined 2 steps competitions at work, and I never would have done that. I have a long way to go; however, I know I will stick with it and stick with Frank specifically.

Overall decent gym. Clean and I like the 24/7 access. Just sucks how they have so many safeguards to make sure you don’t cancel your membership. If you are a student and pause your membership, which you are still paying money to the gym just to not go, then want to cancel your membership, they will make you pay back all the months that you were paused for before you can cancel it. Of course it probably said that in the contract you sign but it is still not exactly the best for students that may not be able to afford a gym membershil anymore.

I think NH hates bodybuilders ha. I’ve tried just about every gym within a 20mi radius. It’s clean. Easy to transfer from one location to another. I wish it was a larger location with more equipment variety (I hope they buy some pieces from the recently closed seabrook <\3) they only have matrix equipment. Would benefit from better leg press options, a pit shark/belt squat, more than one smith would be awesome, more pull down/row options. I hope they choose to expand in their equipment I appreciate the hip thrust machine. I’d be hesitant to be here when it busy due to the lack of equipment and size but we will see!

Longtime member at the Epping Zoo, frequenting all hours and days. For starters, this gym is great value for the pricetag. With a variety of membership options and time frames, there's an option for every need (including guests, which is rare other places). For me, getting access to all the zoo locations was the right choice, and the 24 hour option eliminates any excuse to not hit the gym.

The equipment is in good condition, and the functional fitness room provides ample space for outdoor focused workouts in the middle of winter. Gym is clean with a respectful membership base. Good amount of squat racks and dumbbells for those with serious ambition.

The best part of the Epping location is the staff. Zach, the manager, runs a tight ship and is known to frequent his own gym for his own workouts. He and his team are straightforward and up front about all the membership options *and their terms* and will help you pick the option thats right for you, not the bottom line. They're also approachable and friendly, and willing to assist/address any problems the gym may be having.

Ultimately, if you're new to your fitness journey or already well along the path, if you're serious about getting fit, the zoo is the place to do it. The team, equipment, community, and facility are designed to help make your fitness goals fun and achievable, full stop.

Great place and sense of community. Treadmills could use some care. Some belts stick, tvs don’t work. More dumbbells in weight room please! Daylockers would be nice addition to offset small lockerroom. Policing of excessive weight slamming and yelling would be nice. Very clean gym and amazing variety of ways to get a great workout.

My husband is a veteran and current law enforcement officer. We just moved to NH when he signed up with The Zoo. Within a week and a half he realized the gym just wasn't a good match for his workout style and asked for a cancellation. I understand that in order to have joined, he signed a membership with the gym. I'm not refuting that. But you don't always immediately know if a place is the right fit for you. And to change your mind within less than 10 days seems really reasonable to me. They didn't care. The staff, the manager and even the owner all fell back on the apparent NH law where he could only have cancelled within the first 3 days. THREE DAYS. They had no interest in making an exception, even though the timeframe was still really reasonable (IMO) to ask for the cancellation. So now he's paying for a monthly gym membership he isn't using at all. The decision was entirely up to the owner, and it was a big 'no'. If he'd been going there for weeks or over a month I'd totally feel like that was our bad and own that. But for them to make no considerations makes me feel like they're leaches. And I'm not saying veterans should get blanket special treatment, but I certainly wouldn't have expected a veteran and current LEO to be treated this way in NH. Maybe in Mass., but not in this state.

In response to the company's reply:
We appreciate the accommodations made regarding the discounted membership for first responders and the additional access provided across NH locations – but none of that made the gym be what he needed, and so he doesn’t use any of it.

The primary issue is still the flexibility in the initial adjustment period. While I understand the policies in place and the usage of the facility within the first month, the crux of the issue lay in the rigid application of the cancellation policy. When a 6 day/wk workout plan rotates each of those days, it takes more than 3 days to fully understand if a gym is the right fit – and NOT being the right fit means he now has a membership for 2 gyms and only uses one because The Zoo just didn’t meet his workout needs.

We recognize and respect that The Zoo Health Club is veteran-owned and operates with a set of policies. Our intention is not to undermine the business, but to highlight an area where a more flexible, customer-focused approach might enhance the overall service experience, especially for new members still assessing if the facilities meet their needs.

The aim here is not to tarnish the reputation of a veteran-owned business, but to share a personal and frustrating, not to mention expensive, experience that could be helpful for other people to keep in mind when they try out a new gym.

The zoo was recommended to me by a friend. I’ve gone to a few other gyms over the years but so far this has been my favorite. The classes are great and the instructor are fun while also challenging you and leading a great class! I would also highly recommend working with the personal trainers. I worked for the first time with Marc and it was an amazing experience. He was knowledgeable, honest, clear, and helped set my expectations for what to expect in the future. I’m excited that the zoo and the trainers at the location are there to help me towards my goals. Anyone looking to join a new gym, I would recommend The Zoo! I’m pumped no pun intended.

This place is terrible. First off, notice every negative review is replied with denial and defensiveness from the business “it doesn’t appear you’ve ever stepped foot in our facility,” which shows the level of professionalism we’re working with here. The gym is always a mess, I tripped over equipment laying around more than once. When are you fixing your ONLY hamstring machine? It’s been broken for months. I’m sure they’d give a story about issues getting it repaired but .. how about you buy a new one so that people paying you for a full working gym have access to at least one hamstring machine?? I could go in and on but this is place is lower than planet fitness because at least PF keeps their place clean and are professional.

Needs more barbell weights, clamps, and benches. It would amazing if they had dip bars that you could move around so, more people could do dips at one time. This is just a personal want but, it would be cool if they had parallettes for people who want to do more body weight exercises. Other than those small inconveniences this is a good gym. You can tell just by walking in that the other gym goers really care about their health. It is pricier than planet fitness but, then again planet fitness is a joke of a "gym".

Extremely disappointed in the level of member service at this facility. I requested to change my membership type and was told that the change was "all set" and would take effect the following month to lower my bill, but that did not occur. When I questioned the sales person they said that they never told me that and I would be required to sign a new contract for the change to occur. The location manager, who I have never once seen in the club, then gave me a different story stating that the rate the sales person had given me was not accurate and I would need to pay an additional fee to get the previously agreed upon rate. These inconsistencies prompted me to request a cancellation of my member, which must be done in person. I completed the required form 30 prior to my next billing and yet I have been charged again. I was so happy when I first started here but since have been let down over and over again. There is next to no staffing, which results in non-paying members using the facility on a regular basis and weights being left all over the place. Due to the poor staffing the additional amenities that they claim to offer rarely are available. Take extreme caution when dealing with this facility and get everything in writing.

I love going to the Zoo in Epping NH. I have been going to planet fitness, and I decided to venture out to a different Gym. My first week there I got a invitation for a free session with a personal trainer. I shared my obstacles and my goals on what I was looking to achieve. He went over a food diet with me to help me with gaining weight. I booked a second appointment and he gave me some home exercises that I will do between the times I could get to the gym. He knew that I would more consistent I could do some strength training at home too. I feel welcomed when I show up at the gym. Mark, has helped me put together an awesome game plan for me to be successful with my workout goals. I am very happy with the support I got with my first 2 sessions that I decided to continue working with a personal trainer moving forward. It feels much better having somebody that cares for my success as much as I do. Thank You Mark for caring for my success! I’m looking forward to seeing my results 👍💪😀

It is not a bad gym, but there is a lot that could be improved upon. A lot. First off, there is a kids camp that takes place in the turf room during the busiest hours of gym time on Tuesdays and Thursday. I’m all for the kids. But it is late March and they can do camp outside. It’s difficult to understand when paying members work all week and can only go on certain days and the entire turf area is occupied, leaving no other space to do anything most would use the turf for. They are there from about 4:45 to 7ish. Broken dumbbells that need to be fixed. Locker room is very gritty and the lockers a pretty gross. Other than those few issues, I think over all this gym has a lot of potential and is still the best one in the area.

If you’re a member because of the kid club and there being a daycare - don’t come here. The gym equipment is good and the other members are nice. Some of the staff (if they are there) don’t really know what they are doing or talking about. It’s expensive if you compare what you get at other gyms vs here. When and IF you can actually use any of the amenities they claim they have, it’s worth it.

Used to be a very nice gym, and still is in many ways. Good variety of equipment and a nice spacious turf area.

Now for the things that could be improved.

The gym itself is reasonably clean but the locker rooms are often quite dirty. I've stopped showering there due to poor plumbing/drainage with a lot of standing water. It doesn't look like the shower curtains are ever cleaned or changed due to heavy soap scum residue on them (as well as the shower shell itself). Lockers are rusty and the floors starting to deteriorate.

A lot of the cardio equipment can also be out of order for longer than expected times. The TVs on nearly half of the treadmills won't connect or have very fuzzy, unwatchable picture.

The water fountain is often unclean and today had warm water no matter how long I held down the button. Investing in a model that has actual cold water and can refill bottles directly would be a smart and eco friendly move.

Some of the staff are friendly while one or two seem cold and uncaring to their customers. Not all give a welcoming feeling. I know this isn't planet fitness but some of these people seem miserable to work here.

I imagine it isn't the gym owners fault but their landlord's but the lines in the parking lot are practically erased. They ought to have a conservation with the landlord. No pride is taken in the appearance out there.

I hope these issues can be addressed. Compared to the Manchester zoo epping is seriously lacking for a $30 or even a $20/month gym. I hope to keep coming here instead of joining planet fitness and I like the setup and gear but years of neglect are hurting the place.

I came across a difficult time and put in a cancellation request, long story short I had to move due to leaving an abusive relationship. I explained that I lost my job and my abusive ex went to the gym so I no longer felt comfortable going there, plus I had to travel farther to get there. They made it very difficult to discuss the situation and were not considerate about it at all....especially during this COVID-19 pandemic. I just got an email that they have been in touch with my ex and if I did not pay I would be sent to collections when my account was supposed to be frozen, they NEVER confirmed that they were okay to start charging me again. The gym hired a manager with a terrible reputation who was ripping off customers left and right. When I brought my billing issues to their attention they said it was taken care of and I would receive a refund in 5 days. Over two weeks later they denied everything and said it was my own fault for signing anything their manager of the time gave me. After 5 phone calls and two in person visits they reluctantly refunded me my money but continued the charade of playing stupid to the issues. The current manager said I was being a baby over my card being charged without authorization and he insisted the owners were not there to remedy the situation so I turned around and struck up a conversation with the owner while the manager looked on. They handled the whole situation poorly and I know they have done this to other people.

Edit: 7 months after canceling my membership they have started charging my account again

They kept trying to charge me for my membership for many months after my cancellation and harassed me for past due dues. Not a smart business practice.

Every time I went in there they have hard rock high testosterone music pounding through the speakers.

Unless you like it, everybody wears headsets and listens to their own music.

I asked all the different people who work there up to the owner if the music could be changed to something slightly more user friendly for everyone.

No one responded to my music feedbackor seemed able to change the music.

After a couple of months of this I decided to cancel my membership and not renew. I did this in person with the membership recruiter. I did it with my trainer and at the front desk.

No one was able to or did cancel my membership. This also seemed to be a difficult thing to do.

I have been hounded by a credit service trying to get me to pay a final bill and penalty for canceling my membership. I have explained the same music issue to the credit service and put it in writing also.

None of this seems to make a difference.

Don't give them your credit card. You'll never get them off your back.

I'm constantly skipping the cardio portion of my workout because it's too hot in there! The doors are often propped open on the hottest, most humid days. Some people choose to work out indoors because allergies and heat are health problems for them. I will say that when I ask that they close the doors, they do, but I shouldn't have to ask. Otherwise, it's good! People are respectful and the facility is clean and well run. Classes are not consistent though.

Great gym. Has a lot to choose from as far as equipment. I love that they have things like TRX, kettlebells, resistance bands, etc..and a large open room to use for it all. A varity of classes as well. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Diane Bednarek is my trainer and she is freaking amazing! I feel like I have come a long way in my strength and ability in such a short time seeing her. She really kicks your butt in the best way! I would recommend this place and Diane to everyone!

I love this place!!! The staff and trainers are so helpful! They truly care about their clients. Seamus took a good long time with myself and teen girls to learn what we needed. Alex has emailed back and forth with me for many questions I've had! This gym is the best!

Clean gym with nice staff and nicer people. Was stuck on last rep for a bench and someone came to spot me. First gym I've been to with a reasonable one day price. Only complaint was there is only 1 bench press. If I lived in the area I would definetly have a subscription to this place.
