Locker rooms & Showers have strong mold smell & are not clean. Outdated & rundown shape. Pool area is not the cleanest either.
Could be a much nicer/cleaner facility .

Was not please with rotation of unpleasant life guards that were constantly chastising children during free swim for nonsafety issues, and during cancelation process found out that their is a hostile 30 cancelation requirement that ends up requiring me to pay an extra month for non use. There's a financial reason I am not in a bigger nicer gym! I am a broke parent that can no longer afford things. I thought the YMCA was a charitable foundation not a corporate financial succubus. I will not be considering this institution again in the future for a place of community support.

I've been a member here for a while and really wanted to love this place, but unfortunately it’s in serious need of attention. The gym itself is very dirty—cleaning seems minimal if it happens at all—and the locker rooms are extremely outdated and often just as unclean. Trash cans are filthy, the water fountain station is moldy, and the exercise equipment is dusty. I also have to agree with another reviewer about the front desk staff; some are friendly, but many come across as moody or disinterested. I hope management takes these concerns seriously because this facility has great potential if it were better cared for.

We joined this YMCA as it is more local and we figured it would be fun given the fact that we went to my friends YMCA down in North Andover, Massachusetts my Lord we were honestly mortified at the condition of this YMCA. The locker rooms were filthy the pool I’m pretty sure had kids feces in it And the water was freezing cold. My child was miserable the entire time and just kept begging that we go back to the friends YMCA, which thankfully as long as we use this membership Majority of the time we can and we will only be utilizing this YMCA for working out, Absolutely unacceptable. The staff is friendly as far as I am concerned, but this is YMCA is honestly atrocious for the pool aspect My husband grew up being a member, his whole entire life with his mom very active in volunteering This YMCA needs massive overhaul And those of you who see the pictures online just know it’s Nothing like the pictures

I found the staff to be highly unprofessional, particularly the front desk and life guards. It seems they enforce rules based on their moods, leading to inconsistency and frustration. This behavior reflects poorly on the overall experience. Very disappointed. Dont suffer at YMCA! Go somewhere else!

I would not recommend their toddler swim classes to anyone. The water is waaaay too cold for a toddler to stay comfortably in for 25-30 minutes. My kid has been sick for a month. We missed most of the classes due to that and when we called and requested to speak to the program manager or at least the instructor they were always unable. They never returned our calls either.
The couple of times when we actually were present, we asked the life guards to please measure the water temperature. With attitude one of them threw a thermometer in the water for 5 seconds took it out gave us a look and walked away. We were told the water was 82F. It felt no more than in the upper 70s. My kids lips were turning blue by the end of the class.
The changing room and shower were not very sanitary either. Will not recommend.
Absolute waste of money and the saddest part is that it made my child hate those classes because he just associated them with being cold!

Positive: staff are great, equipment clean and easy to use, generally quiet environment.
Negative: hours are terrible, needs leg and buttock equipment geared towards female bodies, lacks saunas and cold plunges.

*This is strictly for the gym* The gym facility is great, the equipment is new and maintained well, and the staff is super friendly! I honestly have no problems with the gym, however their hours of operation are TRASH. They have never been great, but they have gotten worse since the pandemic (no longer open on Sundays at all). They also do a delayed opening if there is any inclement weather which is beyond annoying... if it weren't for the hours I would give this facility 5 stars but the hours are such a disappointment.

They r making things complicated as much as they can. Paperwork can't except as a pring. Has to be online. Everyone doesn't have a desk job. My printer somehow wouldn't scan papers. So I brought printed papers for my kids summer camp documents. The director of camp wouldn't except, but told me have to send email to Lisa. The head director. I sent. But today learned that she didn't add info my kids files. I paid money, I couldn't bring my kids to Newington Camp. Last week we got email said one kid's Physical Examination paper is missing. Turns out it was expired. So went to doc right away and updated. I sent email to Lisa from my phone. But today I learned both kids paperwork didn't complete at all. I don't understand why she even have email address if she even check or use it for her job. Why the heck this big organization hires irresponsible person As a director. I guess she works from home. That is why can't except real papers. Unbelievable...

I celebrated my son's birthday at the Portsmouth (NH) YMCA and it was a wonderful experience. Jonathan welcomed us and helped us from the first minute, both in pool games and indoor activities. i highly recommend the place.

Never had any lanes available for swimming and no timeline was ever given for when reservation-only pool use would be ending. Charged me for a full extra month when I never used the facility in the 16 days I had a membership. Never had a negative experience with any other Y chapter I've been a member of.

The customer service I received was horrible. They clearly did not care for my feedback upon cancellation and could not even bother to confirm after several follow up emails. The equipment selection and space available for working out is scare. I have had many YMCA memberships in several states and this was by far the worst facility and experience. I usually do not go out of my way to write a bad review but the company’s lack of response and acknowledgement made me feel as though my money and support during these challenging times was not appreciated. I was not treated in the manor in which they claim. “The Granite YMCA creates a community where all are welcome and builds a healthy spirit, mind and body based on the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility“ pulled from their site and not a word of it coveys my experience.

We are currently sending our daughter to YMCA of the Seacoast’s summer camp at Camp Gundalow. It is the worst camp we have ever sent her to. There are very few set activities, according to her. She says they have “free time” where she sits and talks to her friends at least twice a day. They have three set activities which are arts and crafts, sports and free swim. They do not have swimming lessons as she has had at the two other YMCA camps she’s been too. She also says they do not make the kids eat lunch, the are allowed to essentially have an extra free time if they do not want to eat. Lunch should be required when kids are running around in the sun all day. She also has to attend before and after camp because we work which are also of the “free time” format. She has come home with a sunburn every day she has been at the camp and says the only make her put on sunscreen BEFORE free swim which means it washes right off. We complained to the directors about her getting sunburned and they told us, “A lot of parents have complained about that. We really have to do something.” It is also one of the most expensive camps in the area and I expect a lot more for the money we are spending. I would not recommend sending your children to YMCA of the seacoast’s summer camp at Camp Gundalow if you have other options.

Could be much better. I've belonged to many many YMCA's in my life and this is the worst. The only reason I go here is because of the financial assistance. I will say the staff is pretty friendly though and have never had any kind of problem with any of them. The floors in the weight room are always filthy. The weight room wasn't really put together by someone who is really into working out and getting stronger it seems. Seems more built for older people. I had to request a straight bar attachment for the cable machine when i arrived... Pretty much the most basic attachment ever. Most of the dumbbells are broken and the heads move a lot and it is just a matter of time before they fall apart on someone. I've told them about this several times. they just take the dumbbell out of the weight room and someone puts it back later. They only have one squat rack and no smith machine. They only have one bench and no incline or decline bench. They also only have one set of plate weights for the bench and the squat rack so if someone is lifting heavy you have to weight a long while to use the other. There isn't enough room for workouts other than weights too if the class room is in use. The pool doesn't have the greatest hours and they seem to close all the lanes for classes more than they should rather than leaving one lane open for lap swimming. If you aren't receiving financial assistance i would check out seacoast sports club, about the same price and you get more.
