Great location and lots of parking. I went at 9pm on a weeknight and expected the place to be empty but it was full of college bros. I walked into the locker room and there were no fewer than 3 different dudes with tripods setup for flexing videos. Lol, whatever makes them happy. Everyone stuck to their areas though and nobody was obnoxiously loud or troublesome. Definitely would visit again.

I’m writing this review because I hate cheeky advertising that blurs the lines of lying.
Bergenfield Fitness loves to advertise $15 a month which is crazy good especially when you visit their facility. It’s nice, clean, and has tons of equipment. When I asked about a membership I was told there is a starting fee to join, okay that’s fine, depending on how much you want to pay up front you could be paying $15 a month, but here’s the part that annoys me…you also must pay an annual fee of $69+tax and they charge it to you after 60 days from when you joined! Sooo… it’s not $15 month it never really was…it’s $20.75, after a $149 dollar joining fee. Also if you and your partner wanted to join together you’re paying the enrollment fee twice…but discounted. The price is good for this gym, but it’s the dishonest advertising and complicated pricing scheme that turned away my business.

Gym overall set up with the pricing it’s fair. Just one thing I need to point out that bothers me. Now I don’t expect to get the royal treatment but I would like at least the front desk to greet people and not 1.) look at their phones and never look up , 2.) stare at you like you have 3 heads , say nothing, and just stay awkward …and 3.) just totally look at you and not say anything. It doesn’t matter what time of the day because it happens all shifts except morning . But also shout out to the opener and the guy that wears the el jefe shirt , at least they make me feel welcome. Joined about a week ago, figured I’d to give this place a shot after 13 years at Retro Fitness. Two stairmasters have been broken since I’ve been here. I work from home at least half the week so trying to find a time when this gym is less crowded. The staff is polite and there’s always someone cleaning the equipment which is refreshing. The jury is not out, so not quite ready to give up my Retro membership yet.

There has not been any wipes going on for over a week. Anytime I ask why I’m told I’m the only member out of 8000 members that “Whines” about it. I’ve suggested to Luis by mouth, phone call and he is rude” Stating I don’t have the right to make demands.

I’ve gone out of my way to commend you on how clean your gym before these disease laden rags have been used.
The workers at the front desk don’t welcome you or say goodbye and are glued to their phones.

Very clean new gym, just opened July 2023. Lots of members already signed up. Plenty of people there. Life Fitness machines for cardio and circuit training. Lots of free weights and benches. When I tried out the gym as a guess I saw that is Gym is very clean and everything is new and it is organized and has a lot of room when I’m working out with a lot of equipment that benefits you. I think that this gym is probably doing very well and will find a lot of success at this rate in this neighborhood.

However, I find it troubling that there are constant leaks, that some of the equipment does not work (like the cardio equipment), that there are so many people at peak hours that use the equipment leaving none available, and ESPECIALLY the rudeness of the young people working the front desk (two men seemingly of hispanic origin). They never greet anyone. They are on their phones all the time. They never answer me directly when i ask if they can show me how to use equipment or just general questions about the gym, instead they mumble to themselves avoiding eye contact. There is a friendly young girl and a black guy that is nice and pays attention to his job (i think hes also a personal trainer?) that i see at some hours. That front desk really needs a cleaing of the house. Seriously. Some of the employees I like, but those front desk people that i mentioned are ridiculous. Gen Z needs a work-ethic makeover (not all of them but a lot of them).

Anyway, I think that this gym should utilize the upstairs area to accommodate more workouts at peak hours. The congestion is really bad.

Had an issue with billing-
Canceled membership and was charged the annual fee the next day. Called to have it taken care of and had a less than positive experience with the young man on the phone. I was not a happy camper.
BUT... the owner of the gym reached out, Kurt, and was incredibly helpful, explained a lot that was not explained previously, and made everything 100% right. He even credited me a month extra after our conversation! Stand up guy, for sure.
Heads up if you're considering a membership... (and I have recommended this gym to many)...
If you want to cancel your membership for any reason, you need to do it at least 3-4 weeks in advance of any upcoming charges you may not want to pay, as the 3rd party company that does billing for the gym processes charges way ahead.

I like this place even more after having spoken to Kurt. After speaking with him it's even more clear that this gym is owned by someone who cares about what he does and has integrity for the way he does it.

I have been taking boxing lessons at Bergenfield Fitness with certified boxing coach Leo. As a beginner with no prior boxing experience, Leo has been very supportive, patient, kind and encouraging! Most of the time, no one is at the front desk. If someone is there, no greeting. They are talking amongst themselves or on their cellphones. It's always a majority of teens taking over 3 to 5 workout machines. Always a group of 5 or more at a machine taking turns but give no personal space from the adjacent machine. The ladies' locker room post a sign no selfie, but someone is always taking a selfie. The cleaning ladies have seen this but haven't said a word. I don't want to be in someone's background, Pic. Why are there bath towels on various locations on the workout floor? Is there a ceiling leak? Why isn't a caution cone or sign at these locations? It seems this gym is managed by teens? Why have a room for workout classes but none are offered or scheduled? The website offers a trainer, but I never see a trainer.

I really really love this gym. It has lots of different options in terms of equipment. It’s clean and spacious. Definitely 10/10 recommend.
The only reason I’m taking a star off is because the front desk staff is disappointing. Every time I come in they are always on their phones. No hello, no smile, no acknowledgment whatsoever. Sometimes they don’t even look up from their phones. It’s not enough for me to stop going but still. Don’t expect to get any warm welcoming.

First of all, the gyn need to have a prepared personal at least for the people are interested in signing up, my daughter and I went there to sign up and this person was in his phone all the time he didn't even care if we signed or not and have no manners to even said thank you or nice day. Second check and read the prices, it said no contract and at the end of the year they will charge you for it. We have the plan month to month and if U want the plan promotion you need to paid whole year and if not we thank the $25 and guess what we ending up paying 29 so be careful

Been seeing the 15.00 ads and decided to give a try. I was surprisingly shock at this gym . For 15.00 I didn’t have high expectations and expect the place to be a dumpster but it’s totally the opposite. The gym is big, and clean, and have all the necessary machines/ equipments and more. Plenty of benches, squats racks and cables. They even have dumbells every 2.5lbs ex 22.5, 25, 27.5 etc and more. Even the bathroom and lockers are clean. I would give a 5 stars but they don’t have a shower 😞,I like to workout in morning before work sometime. I guess I have to go to work all sweaty and stinky . Also no special area w mats to stretch. They do have a separate room but very noisy. ppl are battling ropes, slamming balls, teenagers fooling around.

Very good gym. Equipment is nice and clean and I hope they keep it that way (in the sense that they replace old/broken machines in the future). My only complaint is that this place gets BUSY, especially during rush hour (6p.m-9p.m when people get out of school and work), and they're STILL advertising to get more people to sign up. I understand you want to maximize sales, I love money as much as the next person, but I also love working out and I can't do that if there's a line for leg extension/leg press/backsquat racks every time I got leg day in the afternoon/evening.

I used to love this gym.. this gym is overcrowded with teens. There was one snow day where I went in the AM and black ice was covered all over the gym parking lot. Very dangerous. I’ve been to a lot of different gyms. Some are too far, some are too pricey, canceling some seems like jumping through hoops… Bergenfield Fitness though, checks all of the boxes. It’s clean. The staff is extremely friendly, helpful and courteous. Sanitary wipes are located throughout the gym. The weights are always organized. The lighting can use some work for my workout videos but it’s not deal breaker. I keep asking for one of those notorious red hoodies too but apparently it’s sacred.

Editing my review a few months after becoming a regular. I really love this gym, but it has basically become a teenage hangout spot. Seemingly no rules - lots of kids, people misusing the equipment, groups of kids horse playing near the equipment like they have nothing else to do — all of which can get in the way of people who are trying to get a workout in.

At some point, will the gym cut off membership because it’s so inexpensive and therefore way overcrowded?

Signed up last January and payed $70+ and staff promised that they will open the next month. no one attempt to send an email or text for any updates and they over promised the opening of the gym. You need to drive up or call them for the updates. I kept on waiting for the opening and now (November) my first time I visited the gym to inquire (didn't even use it yet) I didn't know that they started charging my card $15.99 plus $3 dues and annual feel of $60+ since the day that they open without any email and no one told me that they will charge the annual fee after 2 months. Even the manager didn't do anything on it. The manager didn't give any consideration or do something so they can maintain a good relationship to the customer. The time that they are the one who has delays and over promises, people who sign up waited and give a lot of patience to their staff and to the opening of the gym, but now they cannot do anything for their customer. I canceled because They didn't even offer something to make up on the months that I never use from the start. I'm so upset to the manager I spoke except to the one guy who talks to me nicely and humbly.

I canceled my membership 2 weeks ago and the worker didnt tell me that it has to be individually they know on there system that my husband is under the "family discount" ended up saying "we cant refund the charge for this month of october which is $59.99. The equipment in this gym is amazing. They have multiple squat racks, benches, and tons of cables machines as well it really feels like they had true fitness enthusiasts in mind when planning on what would be included in the layout. This place is also kept really clean I couldn’t ask for much else.

Listen the place is nice. But the communication with the workers over the prices and fees and the costumers are insane. Yea its 15 a month but, the fee once u start is 150 + other fees, which is insane. When u can go to retro and get the ultimate pass and pay less overall a year. And THE OWNER THEMSELVES did not mention that they will charge the annual fee after 2 months after opening. Thats ridiculous. They told us the fee for next year will go up to 80. Its only cheaper now because its the first year. I don’t know about all of you but go to a different gym don’t waste your money or breathe here. Also I asked to speak to the super visor and they REFUSED. Just canceled 3 memberships. Goodbye

Great Gym. Clean and fully equipped. $15 a month. There is a initiation fee and a annual fee. Annual fee gets charged two months after you join. Then once a year after that. Locker room is good. No showers. Because of Covid locker rooms aren’t used much anymore. Highly recommend.

Honestly can't rate it. It hasn't opened. But I'm putting 5 stars to balance out the cry baby reviews. Let's be honest for a second. Yes, its frustrating that the gym is currently not open, but do you think that the owner doesn't want to open? How does it benefit them.

I'm sure everyone would be grateful that corners aren't being cut to avoid future "Closed for Renovation".And have them closed yet again. Let them do their thing. We'll be fine.

It has been 2 weeks since I've consistently gone, and I've got to say it's been an amazing experience. The staff is great. The place is clean and the people that go are very respectful. 10/10 would recommend.

$149 one time fee, $69 annual fee, $18 a month if you use credit or debit card. For you to get a $15 monthly fee, you would have to give them your account number, and routing number.

Great gym so far. Everything is brand new and always clean. There’s a great selection of machines and free weights. Workers are always friendly and helpful. Glad to have this gym in Bergenfield!

I received a email informing me it was open starting on July 17. I haven’t been able to attend due to personal reasons but I’ll elaborate on my experience soon. I just don’t think it’s fair to leave a bad review without a reason.
Update: I had the change of going in my experience the staff was helpful and others members were very respectful and willing to help you if you didn’t understand how use the machines.

Hard to rate when it’s not open yet. I was looking forward to them opening before COVID but that messed up everything. The staff was friendly signing me up. I wish there was a definitive opening date. Can’t help it, I’m a gym head. Patiently waiting so I can say goodbye to Retro.

UPDATE 5/2/23: I called to find out about possible updates on opening dates. The person I spoke with said they got delayed 4 weeks due to something with construction. They might not be opening until the middle or even the end of the month(May).

UPDATE 6/6/23: I contacted the office once again to find out the status and another date of 6/20 was provided for possible opening date. I am changing my rating to 3 stars for the lack of communication. I know I’m not the only one waiting and the only thing I see is that $15 promo all over the place. No updates or really anything else is ever sent out.

UPDATE 6/27/23: I just wanted to update my review again. I waited to see if they would send a communication, but still nothing was sent out. I called them to ask about an update yesterday. They stated that the equipment is in the gym and now they need to get an inspection. They will also have to wait for the certification of occupancy. They are hoping to open next week. I understand that construction can really be time consuming when you run into hiccups, but I am still not a fan of the lack of communication.

UPDATE 7/7 - Here is another update being that the gym is still not open. I called this morning for a status update and I was told they are still in the process of getting final inspections and occupancy. They are saying the middle or end of next week. I will add that they are offering tours/walk throughs of the gym. I stopped by to check it out and see how it looks. Worth a look if you have free time and interested in seeing it before it’s done.

UPDATE 7/22 - The gym is FINALLY open. I was out of the country so I was able to finally hit the gym early this morning. I have to say that it has everything you would expect from a more affordable gym. If you want a sauna, pool and classes, this isn’t the gym for you. But for $15 a month I think it’s worth every penny. My only gripe is that they were unable to tune into the Woman’s World Cup because the cable isn’t setup yet. Not a big deal at all. I just wanted to watch a game while I do my cardio to end my workout. I am changing my rating to 4 stars.
