I have 3 children who received a swim scholarship with Hope Floats Foundation. They truly love coming every week and even asked to come more often . It’s always been so hard to afford lessons for 3 and now with this amazing foundation they will learn to swim . BSS in Clifton is great and the instructors are super patient ! We have been coming here for our son's swimming lessons since January and it has been a great experience. The instructors are very patient and give appropriate attention to each child. Andrew and Jenny have been very supportive and have kept their calm even when our son progresses slowly. Each level is well structured and the kid gets a motivation to complete them and graduate. We've tried multiple swim schools in the area, including big blue swim school and safe splash, but British swim school has been the place our daughter has done the best. We do Sunday classes and the teacher student ratio is great, she gets a lot of attention and has become much more comfortable in the water.
The teachers are all very nice and knowledgeable, pushing us out of our comfort zone and getting our daughter to learn more. The tadpole pool is warm and inviting and unlike the other schools it's not a roped off section of a bigger pool with way too many babies squished in line sardines, which was our experience with big blue swim school.

I would highly recommend this swim school. My children have been enrolled for almost a year and have come a long way. They started at PS 27 in Jersey City, but then when we moved, they started going to Clifton Sports and Fitness Club. That's one of the great things about this swim school
There are so many locations to chose from, and also lots of time slots available to accommodate anyone's schedule. Both of my kids are able to swim now (did not know how to prior to being enrolled). My children have also learned essential water safety skills. We are thrilled with the progress of our children and are really grateful and indebted to the wonderful hard working instructors. Thank you Kayla for supporting Reem and making swimming fun for her! Also thank you to the rest of the skilled instructors Ajay, Mourad, Michael, and Doug for being so patient with my playful son. You do have to make them test your child out. if you don't mention it they never do. That is something they can work on. but as a parent just focus on your child and let the instructor know that your child is ready. they will work with them individually and help them with any issues.

My daughter is in the beginner starfish class and was VERY afraid in her first sessions. I cannot say enough about how kind, gentle, patient and focused Kayla has been with getting her to progress slowly, but surely...and most importantly, confidently. We have been so happy with the British Swim School!! My two kids are both Starfish and Douglas has been amazing with them! He has been so patient and helps my kids be more comfortable in the water. It would not be an understatement to say British Swim School absolutely changed my 4 year olds life. Not only did her anxiety about water completely disappear since working with BSS since 2023, she now loves and thrives in water.

BSS emphasizes on getting children acclimated to the water before anything (you can’t learn anything if you’re scared). Their utilization of fun toys, floaties, and games are effective in getting children comfortable in water before teaching them real life safety and survival skills. The enthusiasm and patience from the instructors make this whole process possible. My daughter’s instructor Jannys is incredibly patient, professional and gentle in her guidance. She is highly skilled at communicating with kids and knows how to anticipate their needs just through body language. I can’t thank her enough for making my daughter look forward to her swim class every week. Manager Jess is a bright and bubbly gem, she is always out to help you with your needs.

The people here are super helpful and answered all my questions my first time here. They focus on safety in the pool and teach the children correct form the first time so they have an excellent base to begin with. I couldn't ask for a better place for my grand children to learn how to swim!

We've really appreciated the scheduling options, flexibility, and small class sizes here. Our son has had some real ups and downs with his swim classes due to fear, but all the instructors are incredibly patient. He does respond to some of them better than others, so mileage can vary, but his current instructor, Kayla, has been so great with him and created a sense of trust as well as fun. Jocelyn and Michael have also been really effective in building his confidence over the course of makeup classes. I'd definitely recommend!

This place is a pure misery. Kids floundering in a filthy puddle while parents sit nearby in winter coats and muddy boots. Muddy puddles on the floor. Freezing cold. Instead of proper dressing rooms—two flimsy tents next to the pool, one resembling a portable restroom. The actual changing rooms? Ice-cold, filthy, and without hot water. Filthy restrooms. Reception? - never heard of it - enter right to the pool space from the parking lot. Rust and mold everywhere. If any actual Brits saw this, they’d hang themselves in shame.

Kayla (hope I spelled her name correctly) has been amazing to our boys! We have been coming here for a month and have seen amazing results in such a short time. Our youngest had an intense fear of swimming ever since I did the dad thing sometime last year, threw him in the deep end and hoped for the best. Learning swimming is a challenge , but not in British Swim School, Clifton . The BSS staff and instructors make the process of learning so easy and most important fun to kids . I have enrolled both my kids here and they just love it . It has build up their confidence level. They eagerly wait for their swim classes . Instructors at Clifton location are amazing , friendly , understand the comfort level of every child irrespective of the age . And that’s what I love about them . Michael works diligently and my son learned alot from him. He knows how to motivate his students and knows how to work on their weaknesses. My son can easily be distracted but the instructor knows how to keep him focused on achieving his tasks. My son has been in this swim school for several months now, I was skeptical at first but I am glad that I enrolled my son. I love the ease and convenience of rescheduling my son's scheduled absences as well. My son said he would like to have Michael to be his instructor again. 😃

I recently enrolled my three children, ages 6 and two 4-year-olds, in the British Swim School in Clifton, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the experience.

From the start, the staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive. They took the time to understand each child’s swimming level and comfort in the water, ensuring that each one was placed in the appropriate class.

The instructors at the British Swim School are outstanding. They are patient, knowledgeable, and truly passionate about teaching children to swim. My 6-year-old, who started in the Minnow level, was initially hesitant, but the instructor’s encouraging approach quickly boosted his confidence. He has progressed remarkably and is now swimming independently in the Shark 1 level, enjoying every lesson. They’ve been taking lessons for 11 months, and the improvement is incredible.

For my 4-year-old twins, the instructors tailored the lessons to their individual needs, making sure that each one felt comfortable and engaged. They’ve shown remarkable progress in just a few weeks, moving from basic water safety to actual swimming techniques.

The facility itself is clean and well-maintained, with all necessary safety measures in place. The small class sizes ensure that each child receives ample attention and guidance. The swim school also provides regular progress reports, which are helpful for tracking their improvement and setting new goals.

Overall, the British Swim School in Clifton has provided a positive and enriching experience for my children. They’ve gained valuable swimming skills and a love for the water, and I’m confident that they are learning in a safe and supportive environment. A Disgusting Experience at British Swim School

If I could give this swim school zero stars, I would. My experience at british Swim School was nothing short of a nightmare that I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy.

First off, the cleanliness—or should I say lack thereof—was appalling. The locker room smelled like a combination of moldy cheese and wet dog. I was practically gagging as I stepped inside. The showers? Don’t even get me started. The tiles were sticky, and the water pressure was so low that I felt like I was trying to rinse off in a leaky garden hose.

The pool itself looked like a swamp.. I spotted something floating in the water that I can only hope was just a piece of debris, but it certainly resembled something much more sinister. The lifeguards seemed more interested in their phones than in ensuring the safety of the children splashing around in the filth.

The instructors were equally disappointing. Instead of being encouraging and professional, they were rude and dismissive. One instructor, who I can only assume had been swimming in that disgusting pool for too long, barked orders at the kids like they were in boot camp. I watched as one child struggled to keep afloat, and instead of offering help, the instructor merely scoffed and rolled their eyes.

British Swim School is a cesspool of filth, incompetence, and bad attitudes. Save your money and, more importantly, your sanity. There are plenty of other swim schools out there that won’t make you feel like you need to scrub yourself down with bleach after every visit. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this disaster of a facility.

My son started here since December 2022 and did a once a week class until August 2024. He has come a long way from not being able to float. I find it important to learn how to swim since an accident can happen at any time from being on a cruise, ferry, etc… We have had many instructors that we loved but the current one is Mikey. You can tell which instructors want to be there to teach children and he is always there with a smile. The app is great in which you can do makeup classes and pick what is available, in other schools there is no makeup class and the ratio is not 4 kids to 1 instructor like BSS is. That makes a HUGE difference vs him having to wait for 10 other kids to take their turn swimming while my son is waiting. I recommend BSS if you want more attention for your child in a concise method. You can see what is expected of the children at different levels thru their videos.

Save your money and time and find another swim school. I’m not sure anyone actually works there. They never pick up the phone. If you have any questions it’s almost impossible to get any help. The app is terrible. Not easy to navigate and not user friendly. The classes themselves are run by high school students. I didn’t feel like my daughter was learning anything. They’re strict about being there early. I got there 10 minutes early and they told me to get out of the pool until my class starts. We were waiting by the pool stairs and the pool was empty. I didn’t think it was a big deal. The lack of customer service really shows they don’t care for their students.
