I pay for Marlboro Crunch’s premium membership specifically because it promises 24/7 access at every location. So imagine my shock when I showed up at the Freehold, NJ branch and was flat-out told, “We’re not really associated with Marlboro Crunch,” and that my 24/7 access meant nothing there.

I called Marlboro Crunch to get it sorted out. I asked for a manager. They refused to give a name. I asked for the name of the person I was speaking with. She refused that too. Not “let me check,” not “I can find someone who can help,” just total evasion, avoidance, and zero accountability.

How do you charge extra for a premium service and then hide behind anonymity when the service doesn’t work? It’s bait-and-switch, plain and simple. Fraudulent practices dressed up as a “membership.”

I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. The Freehold location denies access, corporate won’t identify a single human being, and the whole thing feels like a scam pretending to be a gym.

Zero stars. Stay far away.

This is a warning to anyone considering joining this gym!!

The nightmare started when an employee began cursing at my friend and me, using offensive and derogatory slurs because me and my buddy were trying to take pictures in a side room where there's no sigh or indications that say "Do not enter" and conveniently enough 1 week later there's a rope up so look at that!!

When we reported this disgusting behavior to management, we expected them to take it seriously. Instead, they did absolutely nothing to address the employee's conduct. It gets worse. 2 months later , the management team was approached by a guest and accused us of smoking pot in the yoga room—a completely baseless and fabricated accusation. The management team fully escalated the situation and without full investigations to these claims point us out and say they became incredibly hostile, threatened to cancel our memberships, and refused to listen to a word we said. We were treated like criminals in a place we pay to be. The situation became so aggressive and we felt so unsafe that we were forced to call the police to have the false accusations documented.

To be verbally abused by an employee and then be attacked and defamed by management is beyond unacceptable. This gym's management team did not create a safe environment; they created a hostile one. This was a humiliating and deeply upsetting experience. Think twice before you give this place your money.

I’ve been a member for a year and half. I really liked the gym at first, but lately it has not been very good. Since the gym announced a renovation for this year, it has declined a lot. Crunch acquired a few Jersey Strong gyms in the area and a lot of those members switched their home gym to this one. It has gotten extremely busy due to the influx of members and not a lot of equipment added. When I register for group fitness classes online, I am almost always given an error when using the app.

The gym is not clean and is constantly disorganized. Mats are ripped and haven’t been replaced. The locker rooms are dirty. Something has been beeping in the women’s locker room for over a week and hasn’t been addressed. They spend money on DJs and meal promotions instead of upgrading and cleaning the gym. It’s rare that all stairmasters are fully operational.

I do a lot of dumbbell workouts so I don’t have to find available equipment because of the crowds here. I would go somewhere else but this gym is very close and has a sauna, which not a lot of gyms in the area have.

False advertising? You be the judge! These guys advertise a hydro-massager as a key part of the higher priced membership bracket. However, they allegedly don't have any! Unbelievable...They say it's a family business and privately owned....however...you allegedly pay way more compared to other crunch locations and receive way less. I visited other crunch fitness locations and they have WAY better equipment and it's much cleaner. Avoid this location if you value your money.

EDIT: reading the other reviews, it's obvious the owner himself has a chip on his shoulder and thinks his run down gym is the best gym in jersey! Big joke!

Terrible service! The younger workers up front are so unprofessional and rude. Everything is always out of order in this gym. I left and kept getting charged, not just the first 30 days, but the next after that too. When I called about it, sooooo rude and shockingly unprofessional. The manager is not any of those things, but one person doesn’t make up for an entire rude staff. I’ve left this comment before but I think they take down bad reviews.

Been like this for a year. Stairs are always packed. Me and my wife pay $100 a month for separate memberships but same crappy service. I’ll remove this review once the machine is fixed. 2/8/2025

UPDATE*** They fixed it. I reached out to the manager Josh and he got it taken care of in about a week or so.

UPDATE 2*** another stair master went down. Not sure if it’s a coincidence or they just switched them. This will stay up until all six machines are fully functioning.

UPDATE 3*** 5/8/2025 Still no sign of life. The stair master is down and zero effort is being made to change that. In addition, I noticed a treadmill went down, I will let you guys know if it ever gets fixed or if it’s headed to the same oblivion as the stair master.

UPDATE 4*** 5/28/2025 Another one bites the dust. TWO of the SIX stair masters are now down. This is embarrassing. Photo attached. This is the most expensive gym I’ve ever frequented and probably some of the worst equipment management. And the locker room reeks of sewage. The more I think about it, the more I question my membership…

Update 5: just cancel your membership. This gym sucks. Customers aren’t listened to and I’m confident they refuse to fix these machines because of my pestering. It’s been two whole years. This gym sucks. The staff is rude and uncaring and so are the owners. Planet fitness is half the cost and down the street.

If I could give no stars, I would unfortunately Google makes me give one. The gym is actually very nice. However, the ginger short kid that works upfront is probably the most disrespectful person I’ve met in my entire life. I went in yesterday with a guest and he was absolutely nothing but rude the entire time. I asked him simple questions. He was incredibly short with me very disrespectful. this is also a pattern that I’ve heard from other people that are members at the gym. The gym is great, but the staff there is absolutely terrible.

Lovely gym and staff! I believe I’ve been a member here since 2018 before they moved locations. I’ve never thought to write a review until now but they deserve a positive one. Unfortunately I have moved from the area so I had to cancel my membership and they were quick to respond and help me with no issue. I always felt customer service here was wonderful, the front desk is friendly and helpful with any questions I ever had. I used to even love seeing the owner’s dog around at the old location and he was always kind to me with every brief interaction.

Aside from customer service, the gym was always kept clean from the locker rooms to the equipment. Yes it’s crowded sometimes but I never felt like I had to wait long to use equipment I needed. I’ll miss this gym and if I ever do move back to the area I’d love to rejoin.

Be warned! There is no “monthly” membership here, contrary to what they tell you and what you read on your membership agreement. Tucked away in the fine print is a condition that requires you to pay at least 11 months. You can absolutely cancel after a month or two — provided you’re ready to pay for the 9/10 months you still have left. Ridiculous misrepresentation.

EDIT after their response: Let’s be clear. The staff at this gym explicitly told me I was signing up for a month-to-month membership. There was no mention of “financial incentives” or locking into a long-term commitment. My contract literally says month-to-month, yet in the fine print, it turns out I’m on the hook for 11 months. That’s not month-to-month. That’s a disguised annual contract.

This isn’t about backing out of a deal I knowingly made, it’s about being misled at signup. Your response dodges the issue entirely and blames the customer for being upset over a provision they weren’t informed about.

I was a member at Jersey Strong before this, and after my experience here I recommend Jersey Strong wholeheartedly. They don’t mislead customers.

I love this gym and have been a member for almost 10 years now, but the morning hiit classes are so disrespectful to the rest of the gym goers and staff.

I was told a lot of people have complained and nothing has been changed when I issued my complaint.

May I suggest an app that allows everyone to tune into the same station so that maybe the loud alarms and changing volumes in music don’t bother the rest of us. It’s synonymous with someone yelling on a quiet bus. There is no reason we should suffer hearing loss by having to either listen to the loud alarms or pumping our own headphones to an excessive volume at the benefit of a small group of people. This class goes on while the regular gym music plays.

Otherwise a fantastic gym and the staff is super nice

Loraine is excellent. She’s extremely helpful and pleasant to talk to. She’s always willing to help and asks for feedback regarding the gym. This review is for Crunch on Rt 9 Oldbridge. The place is always short of paper towels and also machines are not clean and half of the treadmills and Elliptical are not working and no one cares. The manager Chris is very rude to begin with and today he was very rude when I went to get towel from front desk,he was talking to someone and he asked if I am using the towel under that specific membership where I can use the towels, i was inbetween a class so wanted another towel. First of all he was very rude and to ask that question like that was more rude in front of a customer which he was chatting with, and I came back and showed him my key to scan so that he knows we did not misuse the membership ,and he did not even say thanks or anything. I am an old NYSE member never I had this kind of experience. He needs to learn to be polite and ask right questions at right time.

Please do not sign up if you want to bring a friend often. Online it’s super misleading and they do not mention anything to you in person until you bring that friend again and are trying to charge them $20 to get in. Basically you can only bring that same friend every 6 months. Online it says “bring a friend everytime” also you can’t cancel online you have to email them. Go to east Brunswick crunch, never had an issue bringing the same person

The gym itself has great equipment for those looking to do strength training, lifting, aerobic exercises, and classes; no complaints there.
The gym hours are not ideal. Open 24 hours Monday-Thursday but only open to 9pm Friday and 6pm Saturday & Sunday. If you’re looking to hit the gym in the evening or overnight on the weekend because you’re a busy parent, you’re out of luck.
Do I want to hit the gym at 11pm on a weekday? No, I have a 9-5 job. Do I want to hit the gym at 11pm on the weekend? Yes, because I don’t need to wake up at 6am.
What you get for $40/month is very good but if you can’t get to the gym when you want to, there’s no point.

The advertisement for the “bring a friend” policy is completely misleading. It’s advertised like you can bring a guest anytime, but there are all these restrictions hidden behind little text and asterisks. You can only bring a guest once within a 6 month time horizon, otherwise they’re charged for an expensive day pass. Feels like a bait-and-switch just to get more sign-ups or take “the friend’s” money once they’re already at the gym. An ethical gym would be more clear about the policy and not waste the hard-working citizens of New Jersey’s time.

The staff was not kind to my friends about their confusion over the policy as well. There are way too many great gyms with kind staff out there and clear business policies. “Terms and conditions” are not a good business practice and absolutely not valid reason to treat customers with anything other than 100% respect

I am glad I was warned about this so I did not waste my time trying to sign up.

I specifically signed up to the "no commitment" via Crunch Website. Turns out, upon canceling, they claimed I was contracted and had to pay my way out.

The gym is overly crowded, and the setup allows no pathway to get to the yoga or cycle room. Im surprised it passed fire inspection. You are left stepping over people working out, with ear buds on, afraid you may startle someone and get punched.

The instructors are all great, but often in classes, there aren't enough benches/mats for all participants. The classrooms are SMALL. And when you are in the cycle class, you will often find someone using the door as a mirror, working out facing you while your cycling the whole time.

I would be better retained at a higher price to reduce the headcount of the gym.

Cancelled my membership today after a year. Originally signed up for the stairmaster machines. For the past year 1 out of 6 of their stairmaster machines has been broken. Every time I go, no matter if it’s 9am, 2pm, 7pm, the stair masters are all full and I have to wait in line to get on one. Crunch charges their members a fee that specifically goes to the upkeep of the machines (at least that’s what I was told). Yet this machine is clearly not a priority, even though it’s what’s in demand. Get rid of 4 elliptical machines that never have anyone on them and add some more stairmasters. Then I’ll gladly rejoin.

By far the best gym with plenty of parking and very clean. It can get pretty packed if you go without planning but the app provides the business of the gym so if it fits your schedule you can go earlier or later in the day. They have a nice sized basketball court and swimming pool. The Suana and steam room are always my favorite part after a workout. I have never seen them to be out of order or closed. The classes can also get pretty packed, a lot of people go to this gym (needless to say)! My overall experience here has been great and top choice from all gyms I have been to so far!

This review is based on principle. I brought my fiancé here SPECIFICALLY to use the sauna and steam room because not many gyms have them, but they were both broken in the women’s locker room. My fiancé goes to a perfectly fine gym but chose to come with me today for the sauna. Crunch charges $20 per guest pass. I think if you can use ALL the amenities it is worth the $20. I didn’t think it was fair that she couldn’t use either so I asked the manager if he could do us a courtesy and waive the $20 guest pass the following visit for the inconvenience. The manager of the place said and I quote, “there is nothing I can do for you, you should call in advance next time.” I’m sorry…. Why is it my job to call in advance to make sure the equipment that I pay for is running smoothly? I left the Crunch speechless. Very disappointed with how this simple situation was handled by management.

For the most part, it’s a nice gym and atmosphere with amenities and employees to like. However with how stingy they can be with money (sometimes) you think they would build the place properly so that the ceiling does not leak every other day.

But my biggest thing was when someone stole my shoes from that basketball court, that were a gift from my girlfriend and I had expensive orthotics in them as well. And the final response I ended up getting from one of the female managers was that it would take them hours to go through the camera footage so I’m sol. I tried emphasizing the importance and value of those shoes to them, but it was too much of a bother in the end to do their job and help a paying customer.

I used to enjoy the dry sauna until people started pouring water into the heater and worse was when people would pour their drinking water on the rocks. The other unfortunate change was needing to walk around people videoing themselves in the gym. The level of professionalism has dropped as a function of time. Lastly being charged a significant penalty when my card expired just added to the frustration.

I had a very unfortunate and disappointing experience at this gym. I felt that I was treated unprofessionally by the manager, which included him using inappropriate language towards me. Inexplicably, my contract was terminated without clear or justifiable reason, as I did not break any rule. I was hoping for a supportive fitness community, but my experience did not reflect this the least bit. I pray the gym can improve its customer service and communication with members. I would advise against joining this gym as long management remains the same.

All of my friends recently made the switch to attend this gym so that’s what made me originally want to get a membership here. I went online and signed up for the $30 a month membership (plus enrollment fee). Upon arriving I sign in with the scanner like any normal gym. I walk around for a bit, find my friend, and eventually set my stuff down on the bench press. I’m warming up and not even 5 minutes into my workout an employee came up to me and asked me to come to the front desk. Now, I had read that new members get a photo taken so I assumed that’s what he wanted, wrong. He asked me how old I was and I replied “17”. Apparently they have a rule where you can’t work out if you are under 18 but you can still buy a membership for “maturity and safety reasons”. Here’s my first issue, the tone which the employees spoke to me in, after I had asked them if there was any way around the rule (such an outlandish idea I know). The employees became short with me and seemed mad that I was asking questions. They asked me to leave, and I was respectful and left. I leave, and as I’m in the parking lot, my second issue arises. I find my car being blocked in by the “mature” and “safe” 18 year olds who are doing burnouts and revving their cars. The same gym that won’t let a respectful 17 year old in allows that kind of behavior to happen on their property(insanely hypocritical). These are genuine critiques, I hope someone listens. Aside from that, the 5 minutes I was in the gym were pretty enjoyable. They also have a good selection of machines. This rating is purely based off my experience not the gym. Thanks.

Being charged for a membership and not being able to bring a guest, charging somebody who has a membership at another Crunch an extra $20 to use the Marlboro location, having to be charged extra to use tanning and other amenities on top of a membership that I’m paying for, the pool being closed for a large chunk of the day when there’s not even somebody there lifeguarding the pool to begin with. Overall, I’m paying a membership and I’m being nickel-and-dimed every time I try to come to the gym. It is really uncomfortable and really wrong. Not to mention the amount of classes offered and hours and avalibility of them are so low complaired to all other locations honestly I don’t see the hype about this location. I went in with my girlfriend to use the 3 day free trial like advertised online for this exact location and the manager Todd had a problem with me on the second day and asked for $20 to use the gym. Huge waste of time and he said “why don’t you just go to planet fitness, don’t you have a membership there?” I can’t believe a manager would tell someone trying out the gym to go use another gym because I told him I had a membership at another gym the first day we spoke. I cannot believe he is a manager there. I would have gotten a membership after the trial honestly but he rolled his eyes at me and had an issue with literally just feeling out the gym. This gym is a joke the machines are nice but the manager acted like he personally owed the machines just because I wasn’t interested in a membership after the first day. Very unprofessional my girlfriend canceled her membership after witnessing what happened. When I went to my other gym and a few workers had a similar experience with him and had to call their banks to not charge them after they already cancelled because he had a problem with them canceling/using the trial LIKE ADVERTISED on the website. Will never ever go to any crunch fitness gyms in the future. The other lady was very nice with helping her cancel her membership though.

completely disappointed and regret joining this gym. I was really looking forward to joining a gym in the new area that I moved to I even deflected off of East Brunswick because of the attitude of the manager and chose this one’s specifically because the staff was so nice. I’m completely disappointed with after sitting down and reflecting After all the pressure of signing up you realize that within 45 days Crunch has taken a years worth of membership for you that includes your sign-up fee and your annual fee. I’ve been going to the gym for 20 years. I’m very familiar with annual fees but they never come within 40 days of signing up nor are they $80. therefore they can care less whether you quit or not or whether you’re unhappy because they already collected enough money for the year for you. The amount of children here is overbearing the amount of people that are not into working out and are strictly playing on their phone and taking the time on the machines is ridiculous. There was a girl that was smoking a vape in the sauna today that I reported to the front desk , I couldn’t even complete my 20 minute session after a workout because a girl was smoking a vape. I understand that the employees cannot monitors peoples behavior. It’s just the dynamics of the environment is not okay. The machines are on top of each other, and you’re constantly waiting for the next exercise. I really wish I had more than ONE days pass at this place to get the feel of what it was like here because now I am stuck in this membership and disappointed and they got me!

Since the move to the old NYSC facility, this location has gone severely downhill in terms of customer service. Between being generally very rude to customers unaware of their having become a "Crunch Select" location (fancy naming that just means twice the price), charging their peak results members extra money to use the singular perk that makes that tier of membership worth the $50 cost (to "reduce overcrowding" in the new, significantly larger facility), and making it needlessly difficult to speak with management to address issues I would advise anyone thinking of signing up at this location to reconsider; it's simply not worth the cost or the future headaches.

EDIT: if you need any further proof of the poor customer service quality of this location, simply look at the way that management at this gym (presumably the owner) interacts with people who provide even the mildest of criticisms. If this is how management chooses to comport themselves, it should come as no shock that many staff members act in kind.

The manager Chris is very unprofessional, I would stay away.

Response to owner..

No your wrong buddy, Chris approached me very unprofessional demanding I clean up my prework out powder on the bench.. After giving me an attitude walking in the locker room to move from the garbage can were I was originally making my pre-work out. I then left dust on your already filthy nasty locker room floor. I have pictures to prove so, I believe your district Manger or owner reach out to me. Then you grabbed me in the middle of my workout demanding that I go clean up your locker room. So I was offended and I did not tell anyone to shut up nor did I disrespect any women. In fact the young man behind the counter felt the desire need to get involved and tell my guest that he needs better parents if he has any parents at all because he was black. I requested to call the cops, and they came and what happened? This review will stay at a 1 star because the cops literally told you were being unreasonable and ridiculous then laughing at you "Chris". Long story short im sure im not the only person who had a problem with Chris. He is very unprofessional and racist to me and my guest.

Lots of great things to mention:
Friendly staff, great management and amazing personal trainer (Bre)!!
Basketball court & swimming pool are great (of you pay a little more), and great lockers (towels provided), sauna, high quality steamroom and showers (shampoo, conditioner, showergel provided).
The gym to go to (haven’t tried their group classes, but I believe they should improve the spin class setup (change orientation and create a mini stage for instructor).

At Crunch, I only go to the pool, but pool hours are very limited, and it causes inconvenience for me and many other people. On weekends, it is opened only until 11 a.m. but I am not a morning person and want to go to the pool later than 11 a.m., especially on the weekend. I and other people have been asking the manager to resolve this problem, but as of now, it hasn't been resolved. Other than that pool is clean and nice.

Overall an ordinary commerical gym with mid-tier equipment but some complaints. On weekends when they close early, the employees are obnoxious with announcing the closing time, announcing it every 5 mins and repeatedly telling everyone to be out by 6. They think that just because the gym closes at 6, that their shift has to end at 6 too. Also, the salesperson did not make it clear that my membership did not include the pool and basketball court. Gym could use another machine for back like a chest supported row machine. Day pass is also $30 which is ridiculous. Overall a very mediocre experience with this gym.

If you’re looking for a personal trainer that actually cares about his clients and the progress that they make, then Arthur is your guy! He’s extremely knowledgeable and well versed in different styles of exercise. I’ve had discomfort in my shoulder while working out in the past, and not only was he able to pick exercises that didn’t bother my shoulder, but he was able to make them fun and challenging. My favorite thing about having him as a trainer is he makes you want to come in and train, which is VERY RARE to find. Aside from being a great trainer, he’s also an all around great person. I have been going to this location for about 7 months and working with GABBI as my personal trainer. She is absolutely amazing. When I first signed up I was experiencing excruciating back pain. I tried everything from shots, therapy, medication, epidurals, you name it. I was even in physical therapy for over a year. I was being advised by multiple doctors I needed surgery for my spinal stenosis. GABBI reached out to me prior to my kick off session to learn about any struggles I had and researched the back issue I mentioned. 7 months later and I never went for back surgery and am not in excruciating pain 24/7 anymore. All thanks to GABBI researching and caring about my health and working with me day in and day out to get better. Not only is my back better but so is my mental health and I am so thankful for GABBI and her desire help people. I genuinely look for to going to the gym and GABBi has been a huge part of that.

If you’re looking for someone who cares about your success and will give you 100% of the support you need to ask for GABBI

I also love coming to this location and talking to the workers. They always are so friendly and helpful if I have a questions.

I really enjoy going to this gym, but I feel that the men's locker room could be better maintained. The steam room is sometimes dirty and has an unpleasant smell, which is not ideal. This gym is awesome! Switched from Jersey Strong to here and couldn't be happier. It's actually open 24-7Monday through Friday unlike Jersey Strong Manalapan which said it was going to be, increased everyone's monthly and then only stayed open until 11pm and never lowered the membership back down. This gym is big and spacious and has plenty of equipment. I've been here when it's crowded and while stuff might be in use you can switch out exercises fairly easily if you don't want to wait for a specific machine. Told the gentlemen with tattoos hey I will reactivate my membership, showed him I reactivated it. He then proceeds to give me a lesson in economics about how Crunch is for profit and they will be losing money if he lets me workout because they didn’t receive payment yet. Keep in mind, I have been a member for 3-4 years and reactivated the membership in front of him. He then continues to mansplain that crunch is a “for profit” business and tells me I cannot work out. Resigned up for the New Year. Was told No sign up fee or annual fee. February Debit Card, one month after signing up, $75.00 annual fee. I call to question. Ask to speak to manager after the girl on the phone said he denied to credit my account. He also denied to speak to me. Oh well !
So Crunch, you think hitting people with an Annual fee after lying saying there were No fees is ok? Hit people with an Annual fee after joining a month before?
I may say is was "ok" after I'm at your gym for an annual. But after a month of joining? C'moooon man, what do you take people for?
Bad Business !!!

Your $75 made up fee after a month, cost you more in the long run!

*** Update 4 months later. My review has over 5,000 views. After the initial surge of opening the new location, it will set in and people will have to realize How bad business practices they have. Trust us, you're just another gym !

*** Update 10 months later. OMG did everyone see they raised our monthly fee $10 bucks a month in the middle of our contracts? And apparently there's a clause in there that allows them too? ....LMAO. Talk about BAD Business. The reason for increase? We're paying for their Construction ....BIGGEST Joke I've heard this year !!!!

Disappointing. My daughter is 15 and a serious athlete. We have a gym in our home but we needed to have access to a little more training equipment especially on days we can't hit the track. All the other crunches allow teens with their parents but this one. Obviously I understand not wanting teens without supervision but if we're both getting a membership and she'll always be accommodated by her trainer I,for the life of me, cannot understand this policy. Got a membership at LA Fitness instead.

In response to the owner- as is your choice to put in place policies that keep out a whole subset of people. You run a business and your business as well as its policies are subject to criticism. So yes I'll support the businesses big or small that cater to my needs. And I encourage the same for everyone.

They ARE NOT what they advertise. All the perks, privileges, and additional benefits that they offer upon signing up for the “peak results” membership, which is the most expensive/premium subscription at $50, is absolute garbage. They don’t give you guest privileges at this location because they’re considered an “exclusive” club. They advertise that you get a free t shirt but when I asked they said “we were only offering shirts when we first opened”. It’s actually laughable how hard they sell themselves as this premium gym meanwhile people only really go here for its convenience and basketball court. If you look at their website they still advertise that not many people are currently at this gym but it is ABSOLUTELY PACKED during peak hours when everyone gets out of work. Gym equipment is subpar. They have plenty of squat racks which is actually quite nice but one bench press lol. It gets the job done but I wouldn’t even consider the equipment state-of-the-art. Employees look like they don’t even wanna be there most of the time. This place is the definition of a corporate gym that wants to suck you dry of all your money. Do yourself a favor and find a better gym if you can. I am still unfortunately going to go here because it has a nice basketball court and it’s convenient based on my location lol. But believe me this gym is less than half of what they claim to be.

Side Note: If they end up responding to my review saying “we don’t have any records of your name in our system” it’s obviously because I’m trying to stay anonymous.

The kid behind the desk told me Parsippany “lied” and it only covers “core locations” they are a “signature location” and a day pass would cost $30 on top of my monthy membership. (Not even fitness centers in South Beach cost $30 per day) In the end, he discounted the day pass to $10 cash price. For what? basketball and a sauna I didn’t use there? I’m very disappointed. When they were at old bridge shops they were great. The customer service was amazing. They actually cared. For some reason after the move, they don’t care. Very rude and disrespectful, and in result I canceled my membership, my family and friends followed, and they did not care. I’m confused because I was under the impression that when you move to a bigger facility you’d be motivated in having more people join. The customer service is now beyond terrible. After I canceled, they’re still charging my account, and are beating around the bush about returning my money. Every time I call to speak to the manager they’re never available and take down my number to call me back, which happened multiple times, but they never call. When I showed up in person, the manager wasn’t busy at all, and admit they avoid dealing with clients because of other things they need to do. That’s fine, then just tell me so I’d stop calling. Either way folks, there are plenty of other gyms around and I’d advise to stay away from this new nightmare. You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain and that is exactly what crunch has become. New York Sports Club pulled the same shenanigans, and that resulted them from charging $80 a month to $10 a month to eventually collapsing. History repeats itself and people never learn.

My mother, friend, and I visited the gym because we were all members at another crunch and wanted to switch locations because the Marlboro gym was closer. The staff at the front desk immediately treated us a certain way and they were not pleasant. We all signed up for a free day pass at their location and asked to use the facility before choosing to switch or not. The woman at the front desk treated it like it was a hassle to take care of us and actually huffed under her breath. My mother then realized she forgot her ID so she was asked to not enter the facility, which she respectfully did not and waited in the car. As me and my friend entered the locker room the front desk woman chased us in there and asked where my mother was because it was a violation and she needed to sign a form. I told her that my mother was peacefully waiting in the car because she was told not to come in… and my mother complied. As soon as we entered the facility it was as if the staff had already had a skewed perception of us. We were treated unfairly. Needless to say our workout was brief and we are staying with our crunch in East Brunswick. I’d also like to add, it takes as much effort, if not more, to be mean to someone then it does to be kind.

Went to try the gym yesterday, it was not a great place. Very few machines, all were busy back to back. My husband is a member and I was looking to join as I am new to the area. The general manager with the mustache is the rudest person I have every met at a gym in management. I am new here but will not set foot inside crunch again. There are lots of other gyms where I can spend my money and be treated with respect by staff. Anyone reading this beware of joining a gym with rude staff- this is evident from the responses to negative reviews by crunch.

So far I like this place, I see mostly everyday regular people just trying to stay healthy and fit..not that many gym rats with huge useless muscles and an IQ of a paper clip hoarding up the equipments!!

The guy at this gym thinks his club is special for some reason. I've been a Peak member with Crunch for probably close to 10 years now and been to 20 different Crunch locations throughout NJ-PA-NY and this is the only location that told me I can't workout here. I asked him what's different about this location, he said "this location isn't core, it's select" (or special), without actually explaining what's different. I looked at the equipment from the entrance and it seemed like it was the same as every other Crunch I've ever been too, he even named other locations that are "select" but I told him I've been to them many times with no issues. His response was that all the other locations don't have their act together. I asked him again what's different about this location, his response was "I don't like your attitude, please leave or I'm calling Marlboro PD." Well sir, usually when you think everyone else is wrong and you're the only right one, you should reconsider your position.

You never even offered me the option to get in or do something to my membership to get into your "special" location. All you did was tell me I'm not allowed in and you were combative from the first second.

Just visited a new place they moved in and it is awesome with a lot of new equipment and bunch power racks with deadlift platforms - love it! I like that they used to have mirrors next to power-rack so that u can correct yourself - unfortunately it is missing now - not a big deal but something to point out. Otherwise, this is a huge upgrade from there older location which was pretty good as well.

I have been a crunch member for years and going to this location on and off for about 2 years. This location was definitely lacking compared to others but I wanted to stick with the crunch brand so I kept my membership. This location just moved 2 minutes down the road and became a "select" club. Went to the new location and was told my membership is no good for the new location and I need to get a new membership which of course is much more expensive. Needless to say I now have to switch gym brands :)

This gym was good to work out at, the equipment was subpar- not many people were cleaning after using the machines or placed towels down.
My main problem was the employees inability to explain the financial rules and their attitude while doing so. Lauren signed me and my guest in, despite not being very friendly, we had a good workout. The next time I visit with that guest, Lauren tells me that I need to pay $10. I was confused and asked for clarification because when I signed up in January, I chose the peak membership specifically so that I could bring my friends multiple times. Now online it states that you have to pay extra to bring someone in multiple times. I asked Lauren if there was a more expensive or different plan that would allow me to bring the same guest without paying every time- she did not explain the extra fee said “no” and that was the end of it. I did some research and it turns out there is a $50 plan where that’s possible. After speaking to Josh before leaving, he told us the $10 fee is the owners rule to avoid overpopulation at the gym.

I cancelled my membership because this gym did not fit my needs. I’m hesitant to leave this review after seeing the owners backlash to other negative reviews. I was looking for somewhere fun and respectful to work out but this location felt like a cash grab.
