My first time here and compared to other gyms that I have been, it is very good, it looks clean, organized and a lot of variety to do any kind of exercise ... The price I pay for the year is excellent, a super large parking lot , my first day 👍👍👍...... At the beginning, everything was wonderful, now three months later everything is dirty, the bathrooms stink, I don't know what happened to them... Pay attention to those details please.. Formal Incident Report & Feedback – Crunch Fitness North Bergen
At Crunch Fitness North Bergen, there has been a long-standing issue with severely damaged yoga mats—stiff, half-cut, missing edges, and appearing chewed—many of which have clearly been in this condition for at least two years.
• Wednesday, November 19, 2025:
I reported this issue directly to the new GM, Charles, for the first time. The concern was not taken seriously.
• Thursday, November 20, 2025:
The gym floor was still filled with the same half-cut, stiff, unhygienic mats. When I followed up, I was told replacements were “expected sometime in January,” which is more than a month away.
• Friday, November 21, 2025 (11:30 AM):
The situation remained completely unchanged. The same broken, unsanitary mats were everywhere.
I understand this location does not charge a high membership fee. However, anyone who spends time coming to the gym values their health. The fact that these mats have been in this state for at least a year—possibly longer—without being replaced or maintained is unacceptable.
What is even more disappointing is the attitude shown when a member provides feedback. Instead of appreciation and immediate corrective action, the response felt dismissive—almost as if the member is being “difficult” for pointing out a very basic hygiene and safety issue.
I have already requested my membership to be cancelled. Losing one member is not the real problem here. The real issue is the lack of responsibility, lack of basic cleanliness standards, and disregard for maintaining gym equipment. If you continue to treat hygiene and member feedback this casually, you will lose far more than memberships—you will eventually lose the trust and credibility needed to run a gym.
I hope this message is taken seriously.To my fellow members: please do not hesitate to speak up and demand necessary corrections, especially when the concerns are reasonable, hygienic, and directly related to everyone’s safety. Your voice matters. I genuinely hope that my report leads to new yoga mats and foam rollers for all of us. Stay strong, and keep advocating for the standards we all deserve.

Always have bill issues. My account was suppose to be upgraded at one point and instead of upgrading they just made another account for me making me get double charged. Brought it up to the girl at the counter and she didnt even want to bring her manager over how he treated her. When I was finally able to get him to talk to me he gave me an attitude and didnt even want to look into it. Reached out to my bank and was told that since it was being debited from my account all they could do was stop the following charges but not give me my money back. Had to go with that choice so they could stop charging.

My wife also has an account which is set up to be charged auto and has. All of the sudden she gets a card from collections agency saying she owes a certain amount when she has not stopped being charger at any time.

Apart from the account overcharge issues. Gym has many machines either broken or loose. You bring it up to them and no one listens or wants to do anything about it. Equiptment that was there when I started has gone missing such as ropes and handles. Dumbells are all over the place and many are missing as well.

I enjoy the cycling classes very much, it's the only reason why I gave two stars. Trainers are very helpful. The biggest problem is the management. Kind of truck driver friendly, I got a knock on my door from tow truck wondering what I was doing but he was cool that I was at the gym and then leaving, no long term parking. Showers good, water fountain not cold and broken which is very annoying especially seeing it’s been an ongoing thing they’re just not fixing, equipment was fine i guess except their cable attachments were old and very lacking. I feel bad for this location because it’s very busy and it is a run down location, if I can avoid it I will not be coming back here

This Crunch Fitness location is a complete disaster! I was supposed to get a tour from a staff member when I first visited, but that didn’t happen. Instead, I was left to fend for myself. The lady at the front desk was busy chatting with a guy from the moment I walked in. She took my ID, asked me to fill out a form, and then let me go workout. But let me tell you, the gym was in a state of disrepair. The machines, floors, and bathroom looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in ages. It was a far cry from a welcoming atmosphere. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

Bring your own water because the water fountains barely work and you’ll have to either pay 2.50 for a water or go to Aldi’s and purchase some. Decent equipment but many people use it for a prolonged amount of time. Bathrooms and lockers do not get cleaned thoroughly so be ready for anything. The owner of this particular franchise is definitely not taking care of the lack of cleanliness issue which sadly ultimately is a liability issue. Like dang, hire a part time worker for $15 an hour and have them clean up the machines and keep paper towels and sanitizer in various designated areas with trash bins so people can keep the germs and bacteria to a minimum. This place is big and almost always very busy and must be teeming with germs! But have only noticed 2 cleaning stations in the entire place. 1 upstairs and 1 downstairs. This is definitely insufficient for the amount of traffic this place sees in a day. The front workers are oblivious bcus they have their own job. Planet Fitness even has cleaners walking around and multiple cleaning stations with much newer machines. This particular Crunch location has dated machines so the cleanliness is more important. The ladies locker room area also needs attention. This is an issue and keeps me from giving this place a better review. Without basic cleanliness this gym is definitely not up to par with other gyms in the area like LA fitness and Planet Fitness and others that understand cleanliness as a serious matter.

This is my “home” gym but I actively avoid going here. I’m not a fan of how there are constantly a lot of machines that are not working. The most consistent thing in this gym is that there is something that is not working or broken. The gym is not clean whatsoever. The men’s locker room is a disaster. In the locker room you have soap that is constantly empty (both for showering and simple handwashing). I remember fairly recently the soap dispenser was finally filled and of course it was filled with soap and on top of the soap it was filled with literal spit. Talk about disgusting. I believe that this falls on the gym leadership and respectfully there needs to be an overhaul. The line staff is honestly pleasant and friendly but you can tell that they don’t care about the conditions either. The only reason I don’t cancel my membership is because I’m allowed to visit other gyms with it. I would honestly rather go to Hoboken and pay the fee to use the “signature” brand.

I had one of the very best experiences with the entire staff at Crunch Fitness in North Bergen. Charlie, the general manager and a retired E-9 Sergeant Major, is incredibly kind, warm, and pleasant.

My story is that I accidentally left my wallet at the gym and spent hours searching for it. When Charlie found it, he immediately prioritized giving me a call and let me know he had left it at the front desk for me. When I came in, I met Charlie and had the pleasure of sharing my own military experience with him. Overall, this was an amazing experience and opportunity. This gym is great for me. It’s 5 minutes walk from home. The staffs are friendly and professional, mostly male ones because there is a female staff that always get attitudes.
My only complaint is their CLOSING HOURS - 11:00PM is early for Monday to Thursday. It should be at least 12:00 AM. Fridays and the weekends are worse, it closes at 9:00PM and 5:00PM respectively. I am canceling my membership because of that. I really wish the hours will be changed. Other than that that’s a great gym. Just need to fix the hours and also the broken machines.

Literally the worst gym ever. There are so many people it's unusable. No one wipes there equipment after use. The lockers and equipment are in such a state of disrepair. For how many people they have there you'd imagine they had tons of money to refurbish. They're just the only gym within walking distance and everyone goes there.

The place is pretty ugly, and I don’t see anyone cleaning around. I used to go in the mornings, afternoons, and sometimes evenings. Most of the machines are either broken or ripped. They give you a spray to clean the machines after you use them, but there are only 4 sprays and paper towels around the gym, which is ridiculous. I think the spray is just mixed with water and some soap. It’d be better to use wipes like other gyms, or like Crunch at Clifton. I’d rather go to the Clifton one, which is 20 minutes away since I live in North Bergen—it’s cleaner and more organized.

On top of all that I recently discovered they increased the annual fee from 65-74 without any notice to its members that have been there since 2021 not only that they also increased my membership from 15-19 dollars over that span of time; again w/o notice. Joined this Crunch about 2 weeks ago - have come 3 times now. Have been to multiple crunch locations as a guest, not sure any have been even close to this bad! The staff here have been super nice, but that's about the only redeeming factor lol.

This week (the week of June 16 2025) the Men's showers were broken when I came in Monday evening. Still broken on Thursday evening. Multiple times have come later in the day to the men's bathroom reeking of piss, the floors soaking wet. I should note too that the other reviews are right - their AC sucks and it's -SUPER- HUMID in the gym

As I'm writing this on the 19th, all the water fountains in the building aren't working, so nowhere to fill up my water bottle. They do sell them at the front but it's cash only.

They have a nasty issue with folks not reracking dumbbells and plates, as well as a bunch of out of service machines at any given time (at time of writing, one leg extension, one whole cable stack, several treadmills)

Either give your money to a different gym, or go to a different Crunch. I'll be cancelling this membership once I hit the 60d, or simply moving to another location.

Primeiro que a academia, na minha opinião contém muita poluição visual. Li muitos comentários negativos e concordo com todos, já que vcs cobram uma taxa anual de manutenção e obrigação de vcs manterem a academia impecável, já que pra cobrar vcs são bons. Limpeza, máquina quebradas, sabonetes, papel pra secar, lenços pra limpar as máquinas e enfim.
Vcs não oferecem se que um instrutor pra orientar quem não sabem mexer nos aparelhos ( o que é o meu caso) Me matriculei nessa acadêmia por ser a mais próxima de casa e porque meu marido já era frequentador da mesma.
Mas o pior de td é que vcs começaram a cobrar 3 mensalidades ao mês de mim, por " erro" de vcs. Meu marido ligou e foi cancelado, disseram que estava td bem, mas não estava, vcs continuam cobrando 2 mensalidades ao mês de mim. Faço acadêmica por orientação médica pelas dores que sinto. Aí procuro algo que imaginava que me faria bem, mas não vcs estão me causando muito estresse.
Toda vez que vou aí pra resolver esse problema, tenho que lhe dar com pessoas diferentes, nunca a mesma pessoa na recepção, isso acaba complicando pra nós usuários da acadêmica, porque se der algo errada nunca sabemos com que falamos. Por último a grosseria dos gerentes, pois eu falei com dois, um por nome Chris, foi como ele disse que se chamava, anotou meu número de telefone, não sei porque já que nos registros da acadêmica tem meu dados, disse que resolveria e me ligaria, isso não aconteceu. O outro gerente que não sei o nome mas pela ignorância, grosseria e arrogância, não tem como esquecer a cara de deboche dele. Uma semana atrás fui com minha amiga, a mesma tbm ligou no dia 12 de maio no ☎️ que eles me indicaram pra cancelar, o rapaz que nos atendeu via telefone disse que já estava td bem, e que não haveria mais cobrança exeto $33.98 pelo cancelamento, sendo qdo me matriculei, eles me disseram que se avisasse com antecedência não haveria cobrança, mentira cobraram o cancelamento e continuam cobrando a mensalidade.
Vou aguardar novamente caso vcs cobram de mim novamente vou procurar meus direitos legais.
Sou imigrante, mas mereço respeito.
Ah e por favor melhorem, mas melhorem muito e um instrutor acho que seria ótimo pra nos orientar.

This gym was about a forty minute walk from my hotel when I was in town so I made the trip. I was a member of a Crunch when I lived in Texas and it was a good gym so I thought I would check this one out.

Staff was friendly, but the guy insisted I get a lock for my gym bag which was worrisome of the integrity of the members. I almost always just put my stuff in a locker without locking it - of course, I don’t leave anything in there worth taking so if someone did they would feel pretty stupid when they just get my underwear and socks.

Lots of equipment, lots of variety. It has a lot of space but the benches are crammed next to each other for no reason. And then no one holds anyone accountable to put weights and plates back up - which is annoying - especially when you are looking for certain weights.

Overall it was a good enough gym. I wouldn’t become of a member of this one. But if I was in a jam and needed a pump - it will get the job done.

Great Gym. Manager is a super nice guy! I’ve been going to this crunch for years now, really enjoy it. Vibes are great. Everyone just puts their head down and works out. Some equipment is broken sometimes, but they try to fix it asap. What’s really nice about this location is the amount of space. It’s HUGE!

This is awesome gym. I’ve been here years ago and I came back and got a membership amazing gym that’s why they’re still here after all these years but the one guy named Charli that works. There is an amazing guy. I’m homeless and he looked out for me and lifted my spirits, and I managed to leave my iPhone there and he kept it for me safe. Wouldn’t go to any other gym

I was a member for 5 years before moving out of state. I'm giving this gym 5 stars because Sergio, the personal training manager, is amazing. I worked with Sergio for four years and he's hands-down the best trainer I've ever worked with, and a wonderful person besides. Sergio is a consummate professional and expert at tailoring his workout sessions to the individual needs and interests of his clients. He cares about you as a person and looks out for you, not just physically but mentally as well. If what you want is fun, variety and creativity in a workout, he's got that in spades. I was never for a moment bored and he whipped me into shape and kept me there without ever being overbearing or over-serious, like some trainers. I will miss Sergio greatly.
As far as the rest of the gym goes: it's a spacious place with plenty of equipment, for the most part. Staff is nice and customer service seems to be a priority. Charlie, the general manager, is a good guy and a veteran, and I believe he's trying harder than the former management to institute improvements. I've noticed improvements lately in terms of cleanliness of the locker room and bathroom areas. Keep up the good work! I think some professionally-made, laminated signs in the bathrooms/locker rooms encouraging members to keep it clean might help; the handprinted signs, while a step in the right direction, are a little worse for wear. I highly recommend fixing the locks on the women's bathroom doors; some of the doors won't even stay closed, and the locks have been broken for years. In the workout areas, it's sometimes hard to find the hand weights and slam balls when you need them because people leave them all over the gym, though I think this has gotten a little bit better the last few of months. Please keep working on that :-) My main warning about Crunch is that if you have to cancel your membership, make sure you do it more than 30 days ahead of when you want it terminated; otherwise, they will charge your account one more time and you will have to ask your bank to do a stop-payment if you don't want to be charged again. I recommend this Crunch gym, even with its flaws, because they are relatively minor, improvements are happening and it's a good workout environment.

I don’t usually leave reviews, but I feel like this gym really needs to step up. They charge an annual fee, but for what, exactly? Most of the machines are constantly broken, and it feels like there’s never any proper equipment available when you need it. Whether it’s weights missing, benches out of service, or cardio machines taped off, it’s frustrating — especially when you’re paying to use the facilities. It’s honestly hard to take your workouts seriously here. If the gym put even half the effort into maintenance that they do into billing, it’d be a much better experience.

Overall for the amount of members this location has it manages to stay organized well. Staff are extremely helpful/ knowledgeable if you have the pleasure with speaking with Brandon or GM Charlie they will steer you in the right directions. From what I've noticed the PTs there are very committed to their craft and helping clients succeed. You have the ability to get here before or after peak hours you will definitely have a better workout.

This has been one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had at a gym. My mom came to visit me from Ecuador for just one month, and when I signed up for a 3-month plan, I asked the front desk if it was possible to also pay for a 1-month pass for my mom. The receptionist said it wasn’t a problem, and that she could come train with me.

The next day, when we returned to work out and pay, a different receptionist gave us a completely different price and said we should come back the following day to speak with the original girl. He gave my mom a free pass for that day.

But when we returned on the third day, yet another staff member told us that a 1-month pass was “impossible” and acted like we were lying about what had been said before. When we insisted two of their employees had confirmed it was possible, she responded rudely and said, “Do you want me to call the manager so he can tell you the same thing?”

Then came the worst part — the manager. He was arrogant, disrespectful, and treated us like we were stupid. He spoke perfect Spanish and even though I’m fluent in both English and Spanish, he insisted on continuing the conversation in Spanish in a condescending tone. When I explained what the staff had told us — and that I had audio recordings as proof — he didn’t care. He just kept repeating that it was “not possible” and if he were to give my mom a month, we’d have to pay the annual fee, as if we didn’t understand basic logic.

But what really shocked me was when he asked me where I was from and told me that “when you come to a country that’s not yours, you need to understand the language.” That was a RACIST comment — coming from a Latino manager himself — and absolutely unacceptable. I do understand the language, but clearly he was the one trying to intimidate us.

How can two employees give completely different information and pricing, and then the manager blames us for it? And instead of offering a solution, he chooses to belittle and insult us?

This gym clearly lacks professionalism, consistency, and most of all, respect for its clients — especially if you’re Latino or an immigrant. Absolutely disgraceful. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Gym is the worse Crunch I've been too compared to the one in Livingston and Verona. The spray to wipe down the machines are empty and the dumbbells are all missing under 30 lbs. Also you have people who hog up the gym cables and machines for 40+ mins more. They walk away from the machines and use their gym bag as a placeholder for them being there.

The gym has everything you need for endurance and strength training. It even has a little studio with mirrors they hold classes in. You have beginners and long time gym goers here.

I started with Sergio, a personal trainer here; he is awesome. He gave me a plan and advice for strength and muscle endurance training. Each session, he was teaching me something new. I would recommend him to anyone whether you are new or want to improve on your fitness journey.

The most basic plan starts at 10 per month for a year commitment. There is also plenty of parking at this location.

I’ve been to 3 other crunch gyms and this one is easily the worst. Don’t really interact with the staff even though they seem like good hard-working people so I can appreciate that. My issue is the people who workout at the gym. I could say at least over 50% of people don’t put away the weights they use properly, I don’t mind the dumbbells being in the wrong rack that it’s labeled at but most of the equipment is just on sides of the gym you wouldn’t expect, and it causes others to go all over the gym to find the equipment they need. At other crunch gyms I’ve seen people be held accountable for not re-racking their weights or not putting equipment back where they found it/placed in a safe spot. I would just like to see the staff (who I’ve seen walk around with carts putting weights and other things back in their proper place) to hold some of the members accountable for not maintaining the gym the same way they found it.
