I’ve been a member here since Firehouse first opened and it’s been great. Clean facility, new and well maintained equipment and a generally positive environment.

I’ve also been doing personal training with Jim for nearly two years and couldn’t recommend him enough. I wanted to get stronger and more confident lifting heavy and Jim has helped push me far beyond what I thought possible. He’s super knowledgeable and passionate about fitness, so no matter what your goals are, he can help you crush them.

The membership is pricey but it’s a local gym that is clean with a sufficient amount of equipment. Classes are not included in the membership. Beware of the no frills month to month membership as they will charge you an additional month after you notify them of cancelling.

My main complaint was that after I’ve had my membership fully cancelled , I was continued to be billed 3 months in a row as I continually asked for the issue to be resolved.

Update: The issue was resolved and upgrading to 3 stars.

Great gym overall with very friendly people. I specifically joined for the personal training services, specifically with Jim. I started training with Jim about two years ago with the goal of losing weight and building muscle, and I made such good progress. I saw him 2–3 times a week, and he always kept the workouts fresh and interesting. I preferred more "freestyle" workouts, as opposed to just using machines, which Jim was easily able to accommodate. It helped keep me engaged as well to have new/creative workouts introduced.

After about a year, when I became pregnant, I continued seeing Jim because he was super knowledgeable about prenatal fitness. He worked around any restrictions my doctor gave me, introduced safe modifications, and made sure every workout supported my changing needs. Even on days when I was low on energy, he adjusted the session so I could still benefit without feeling overwhelmed.

Jim is professional, thoughtful, and incredibly effective at what he does - highly recommend if you're considering a personal trainer.

Walked out this gym from my hotel up in Weehawken while I was in town. Kid working the desk was insanely friendly, and chill. Plethora of equipment, very clean and amazing selection. It was also neat being in an old Firehouse.

Issues: some muscle groups are limited on machines and those machines have limited RoM - like the leg extension and leg curls. Not a major issue but for bodybuilding it is hard to get the lengthened load on the muscles. Other issue is how crammed in a lot of the equipment is; space is limited but some of that stuff is too close together.

Overall great gym. I would go back for sure!

After being a member since opening I noticed back in January that FoxNews was always on at least one tv. After months of asking it to be turned off or trying to ignore it I went to the front desk to ask about comments. After explainng to the attendant my issue and how in a sanctuary city like ours this was a not so subtle message to members about where they stand on immigration and LBGTQ+. In less than a minute suddenly I had both owners telling me how they can play what they want and they don’t get political and then told me that they can’t cater to single members while there are other members requesting said content. Anyway. The gym is great, clean, equipment is wonderful, but if you want a gym that feels like a safe space this is not it. And don’t say safe space. Edited to add: if a business wants to be nonpolitical they should refrain from airing politics in their space. RE EDITED: I went to the front desk to ask about how they prefer to receive feedback and comments and explained the feedback I wanted to leave. I’m not a CNN watcher and as I mentioned repeatedly I don’t think politics should be shown in an establishment aiming to be non political. To say that I bullied the 2 male owners of this establishment is asinine.

I loooove this gym. It is fully equipped and aesthetically pleasing. I love how passionate the owner is about keeping his gym organized and clean. The other gym in the area is cheaper but the standards from my experience were extremely low. If you want quality, this is your gym.

The gym itself is great, but hardly anyone cleans the machines. Some people quickly move from one machine to the next without even thinking to wipe them down.

Other than a small sign on the wall, there are no clear instructions and the staff don’t make any effort to remind members about proper gym etiquette as they suggested in another review

Firehouse Fitness Jersey City: A Must-Try

I've been a member of Firehouse Fitness Jersey City since it opened in 2023 and I can't recommend it enough. The gym is perfectly equipped for strength training, with brand-new, well-maintained equipment. The staff is friendly and always helpful.

I train with Jim, who has been instrumental in helping me achieve my fitness goals. His expertise and guidance have been invaluable. He's also helped me develop a structured approach to my nutritional health as I try to strike a balance with work/life/kids.

If you're looking for a top-notch gym with a supportive community, I highly recommend Firehouse Fitness Jersey City.

At firehouse you'll find new, well-maintained equipment that covers pretty much any muscle group you could wish to train (and plenty of treadmills, stair masters, etc., also). It's never too crowded either, even at peak hours. The owners and staff take the member's concerns seriously and are super friendly & welcoming (no toxic gym culture here!). The facility is very modern, and has some great spots for photo ops such as in the group fitness room (ofc while respecting other's space). Most importantly, this gym takes gym etiquette and hygiene seriously.

The gym is big and they keep it clean and not over capacity. The cancellation on month to month access is a jumbled mess. They require 30 days in advance notice and there is a $50+ surcharge for a "facility" fee.

The Heights neighborhood and our local community are so lucky to have this incredible space to work towards our health and fitness goals. I've lived in the area for 12+ years, and over that time I've been a member of 5+ gyms local gyms. Firehouse Fitness is the best facility by far and it's not close. All of the equipment is brand new, it's the cleanest gym I've ever seen & there's everything you need to work on any goal you have. Love this spot & look forward to being a member for as long as I still live in Hudson County. A+

With gyms, I am okay with paying more for guaranteed cleanliness, care of equipment, and a peaceful/respectful environment. You can tell the owners really care for gym courtesy and during my first tour, the owner took the time to show my boyfriend and I around, even showing a demo for 3 of the machines. Never experienced that before so we signed up on the spot. Had to take a break and we are back this month. If you do not have common courtesy or spatial awareness, beware this gym is not for you, they will call you out and its the best instagram tea.

Great location. Well equipped. Clean. Friendly staff. The lack of amenities is a little annoying. No towels and no soap in the shower. I’m working with a personal trainer (Joe) and he’s great. They charge extra for classes, which at the monthly rates they’re charging I find annoying, hence the three star review.

I am very happy that a gym has finally opened in this section of Jersey City Heights. It is long overdue. To top it off, it's a very high quality gym, with all the necessities, friendly staff, and a good mix of clients from those that need to get back into the gym like myself and build a routine, to those that are advanced without being too intimidating. Now it's up to me, no excuses!

Building this state-of-the-art gym for Marty and David has been one of the most rewarding experiences we've had at Mayhem Strength and Gym Bro Fitness. From day one, it was clear that this project was going to be something special, and the final result has far exceeded expectations.

Attention to Detail: A+

Marty and David demanded the best, and that's exactly what we gave them. You can feel the quality the moment you step onto the vulcanized flooring. This isn't your run-of-the-mill gym flooring; it's top-of-the-line, offering a perfect balance of cushioning and durability that makes every workout a pleasure.

The Best Gear: Mayhem Strength Equipment

The gym is outfitted exclusively with our Mayhem Strength equipment, which is honestly the best out there. From the weight machines to the cardio stations, everything is designed for peak performance. You won't find a more sturdy squat rack or a smoother cable machine anywhere else. This is innovation and quality, all rolled into one.

Thoughtful Layout

Let's talk about the floor plan. The gym flows. It's as simple as that. You move from one station to the next with no wasted steps, which means your workout is efficient and enjoyable. This kind of layout doesn't happen by accident; it's the result of meticulous planning and a deep understanding of how people use gym spaces. Marty and David were fully involved in this process, and their insights were invaluable.

Marty and David: The Dream Team

Speaking of Marty and David, working with them has been an absolute joy. They're visionary, hands-on, and just great people to be around. Their enthusiasm for the project was infectious, and we're so pleased they're happy with the end result.

Future Success

We can't wait to see this gym flourish and become a cornerstone of health and wellness in the community. With the level of detail, quality, and love that's gone into this space, success is pretty much a given.

In short, if you're looking for the best gym experience out there, Marty and David's facility is where you want to be. We couldn't be prouder to have been a part of this incredible project!

The best gym in JC Heights... it's brand new, clean, spacious, modern, and well managed. They have top of the line equipment with friendly staff.
I'm so happy this gym opened up, I moved in the area last year and was struggling to get a good workout in. I tried other gyms and left. They just weren't worth the money. I waited months for this place to open up, and it did not disappoint. I will be going here for as long as I live in the area.

This is a great gym! Everything is very new and clean. The staff is always nice and welcoming. They have the best collection of machines that I’ve ever seen in a gym, including the pendulum squat which I think has been way better for my knees. There’s also a hip thrust machine (pictured), a few different leg presses, two deadlift platforms, bumper plates, and a chest supported t bar row. They have a variety of grips for pull downs which are nice.

The only concern I have is that it’s a relatively small gym if you compare it to like the crunch fitnesses or LA fitness, so if it gets really popular I could see it being an issue in the future, but right now it’s never too busy. And like the locker room is more of a bathroom that they put some cubbies in, which isn’t really a problem for me since I live so close, but if you wanted to bring a whole duffle and shower and change, there’s not a lot of space.

for $106 per month, you’d think they’d at the very least have towels for members. Cheaper gyms have that. I suppose they charge this high to filter out certain people from the neighborhood, but won’t extend that basic courtesy to their members.

Additionally, there’s no soap in the showers. So yeah… bring your own. Again: $106/month. You have to give the front your ID to use the lockers. This is stuff even cheap gyms don’t do.

Showing up before work thinking I can shower and go to work… for this much money it’s disappointing. For the tens of years I’ve been going to gyms, I haven’t seen anything like this at this price range.

To be fair the equipment is good, but still. It’s too expensive to justify the lack of basic gym services that are industry standard.

Just can't wait for this Gym to open in our neighborhood. Met the owners a while ago while construction was going on and they were very warm and welcoming. Just a little concern is that the pricing might need a few adjustments since $85 is a bit far of a reach for the area, but it will depend on the facilities they provide once opened.

I am looking forward to this fitness center opening soon. There is not a lot of information available about them on their web page yet, but based on the logo, it might be a weight lifting studio or the likes of CrossFit. Regardless of the style though, this is a new and welcome service that would soon become available to all residents of the Heights. And is a worthy addition to this historic but recently renovated building originally built in 1917.
