I’m visiting from out of state and decided to check out Fitness Factory for a workout. From the moment I walked in, the staff was welcoming and helpful. Shayla got me set up with a day pass right away and made my first visit super smooth. After my session, Eylan made me a healthy shake that was honestly one of the best I’ve had at a gym. Great environment, great energy, and great service. Highly recommend this place!

Wasted my money and time. I paid for this gym for 5 months plus annual fee, but rarely went, tho it’s very close to my place, because it’s always crowded and dirty. I wanted to cancel after my first few months but kept forgetting because the cancellation process is so inconvenient. In the website, they claim to have a mobile app, but I never got access. My barcode wasn’t recognized (see attached). When I finally sent an email asking for a cancellation, the staff told me: “You could also go on our website and cancel without the help of a human at literally any time you would like.” which is not true. There’s no working login option for member and definitely no cancellation button at all. I rarely leave reviews for gyms, but this one deserves it. Their customer service simply doesn’t know how to handle customers.

Update 9/19: They went above and beyond, by threatening to send a debt collector after me for $60 when my credit card declined their invalid charge. They insisted on charging me even though I had already explained that I wanted to cancel months ago, but due to an error on their end, I couldn’t submit the cancellation through their website.

Joining Fitness Factory was a great choice of gyms. It’s a central location and unbeatable price with a variety of machines, classes, and a professional & fun team of staff. I’m greeted with a smile and courtesy without fail each day. I signed up for the top tier membership package which includes towel service and unlimited classes (well worth the monthly price). The Zumba classes are the best I’ve been to in 20 years! The Zumba instructors Rowena & Nicky will surely shed a few pounds off of you and increase your stamina while making you an excellent dancer!

I took advantage of the gym’s complimentary personal training orientation in January and looking back, it’s the best decision I made. I was lucky to be paired with Antonio! And 7 months later I can’t imagine a week without training with him.

During my orientation Antonio asked me questions to hone in on my goals and my reservations. We discussed everything from exercise history, physical limitations, general health and eating, to short term and long term goals. Now in July Antonio hasn’t forgotten one tiny detail from our orientation and consistently reminds me of my goals as we train together.

During our sessions Antonio listens to my needs for the day, gauges my strength and energy and tailors a workout that kicks butt! Because he knows I’m focusing on losing a significant amount of weight while building toned curves, he crafts a workout that consists of calisthenics, weight lifting, endurance training, and stretching (and he knows my favorites sessions are lower body and endurance training).

Antonio is not just doing his job, he goes above and beyond with me (and I’m sure with every client he works with). He focuses on proper form and pushing me to the next level even when I don’t believe that I’ve reached a next milestone.

Antonio genuinely cares for my goals and how I progress towards them. We review what I eat and my well being so that exercising with him is multi faceted and not limited to a single focus of only the time I’m in the gym with him. This wholistic attention is very important because it shows his partnership in my success which in turn keeps me engaged, consistent and just all around feeling good about myself.

Antonio uses positive reinforcement to motivate me and his hard work shows. I’ve noticed my clothes have fit better and I’ve been receiving many compliments from my family, friends and coworkers on how my body is transforming. I still have a long way to go to reach my goals, but I can’t imagine the next steps without Antonio’s guidance and help. He reminds me daily, this is not a means to an end, but this is a lifestyle he’s teaching me. I deeply & genuinely appreciate the investment Antonio puts into me and this is priceless!

This is the cheapest gym option in downtown JC at around $50 a month. The workers are nice. The equipment is fine. The space is a bit small. The location is excellent. It's not exactly the cleanest or most well kept gym. For example, it took 4 months to fix the broken phone cubby in the sauna and they just plugged up the hole entirely instead of fixing the cubby. The light in the sauna is broken and the bench inside has definitely never been cleaned as long as I've been a member

I've had a terrible experience at the Jersey City location. apparently it's a breeding ground for predators. I brought this to both the manager and owner and was met with resistance. Ive been super happy with Club Metro(now Fitness Factory) over the past several years. Extremely friendly staff, and some of the members are actually friendly as well(which seems to be a rarity)at a lot of larger facilities. Diverse membership. Excellent maintenance and good equipment, with a separate room for classes or individual stretching, etc. Pleasant and energetic atmosphere, not overly crowded and a great location across the street from the Newport PATH station. A scam.
I walk in and ask for the price, the staff is very nice, have a introduction about different plan and gave me a deal to waive 10$ activation fee.
So the next day I came back, pack up ready for workout. After wait in front desk for 10 minutes , another staff finally show up, said they/them is in charge of this place and there's no such deal. They/them said "whoever told you this, made a mistake. There's no such deal ".
No apology, just tell you no, it's someone else's mistake. This is kinda disgusting and wasted my time. They don't help to solve the problem, just told you no it's a mistake and not even any apology. I won't pay for a membership here because it's insulting.

If you're thinking about joining this place, don't. The owners are unhelpful and only cares about squeezing every dollar out of you.

Just a few days outside the cancelation policy and you have to pay for a full new month with no exceptions.

Gym itself is awful. Equipment showing it's age. The central AC was out of service twice in the last 4 weeks. Gym is humid and stale. Awful odor in the men's locker at all times. It's like they don't care about cleaning it.

Do yourself a favor and skip this place. Plenty of better options with better management and people.

Edit: Scrolling down and looking at the other reviews. Plenty of people are having issues with the predatory canceling policy and awful equipment/locker room upkeep.

Negatives: broken cardio machines all over this gym. There are many broken treadmills, ellipticals and the bikes can’t be adjusted anymore in the front. Awful, the gym is small and disorganized people remove bench bars to do deadlifts in the tiny dumbell rack area because there's only one deadlift rack. Bench press equipment is bolted down and not centered. Staff are never behind the counter and are not friendly. Also I paid for my all access membership which should allow me to use any fitness factory but when I come to this sad gym they say I can't because I don't have a plus membership which I have to pay extra to come here. I honestly loved the gym when I first started coming over a month ago. Over time, I have noticed that the lockeroom and sauna are consistently filthy. There's everything from dirt to spit out chewed gum. With that being said, the staff and classes are great. I noticed a trend in specific individuals that hog more commonly used equipment texting on their phones for 10 minutes between sets then just leave their weights on it expecting people to clean it up after them. Clean and fairly well-equipped. The only changes I’d make are:

1) Replace all benches in the dumbbell area with the adjustable kind that can be flat or sloped at varying angles. The flat benches there tend to run out quickly at more crowded times while the ones stuck in a sloping position remain free because no one wants to use them.

2) Add one or two more squat/deadlift platforms with bumper plates, since the existing one tends to always be in use.

It’s clear there is no investment that goes into this gym. No new equipment, very poor maintenance of existing equipment, and it seems like nothing ever gets cleaned. When a machine goes out it takes weeks to repair. Even small things like pins for the weight machines and hooks for cables are constantly missing or broken.

I joined metro gym, 10 months ago because I needed to lose the weight that I have gained during the peak of covid. The fitness manager/yoga teacher, Melissa suggested Abraham, an excellent personal trainer. During the complementary session he assessed my fitness level, took the time to explain the body mechanics behind the different exercises and made me work! I left sweaty and sessions booked! Please be careful while signing up with them - they lock you into long term commitments with a lot of hidden fees. For e.g. To pause or cancel memberships, an annual fee + 1 month additional gym fee + cancellation fee + 3rd party claims fee was placed.

As a gym it was good but the member cancellation process was negative experience for me. It required a lot of effort on my part even when i was leaving jc/nj so just be aware. They even used a collection agency after i canceled which was upsetting since it was an error on their part.

Don’t come here! They are SCAMMERS who charged me for months of gym service during a global pandemic even after I had cancelled!

EDIT: They worked with me to resolve the payment issue and did listen. It turned out that it was a bad system design, where they hire a robo company to let you know you have a balance on your account. The robo-company is flagged as spam and I never picked up those calls leading to a huge charge months down the line... maybe reconsider that approach.

I work in the area so I recently joined this gym to stay proactive during the fall/winter season. I signed up easily online while at work. When I arrived to the gym for the first time I was greated by Michelle. She was so welcoming and assisted me with any questions I had. I have only been a member for a week but I can say the customer service is on point. Clean bathrooms and locker rooms. I highly recommend d this establishment

Also have had multiple unpleasant experiences with the front desk employees from their OTHER facility in Rutherford.

I signed up for Club Metro at my roommates recommendation. It’s a great price and there’s plenty of equipment! It gets busy after work around 5 or 6pm, but for the most part I’ve never really waited for for a machine or bench. The gym is clean and the showers and sauna are nice touches!

About a month after signing up, I decided to pair up with a personal trainer. I was matched with Rowel. I couldn’t be more pleased with our sessions! He’s a lot of fun to work with, but more than that, he’s a GREAT teacher! Thanks to him, I finally feel like I belong at the gym because now I know what I’m doing. And I’ve seen a lot of results. I’ve lost about 55lbs and gained a significant amount of muscle. I can’t thank him enough!

A New Jersey man is suing health club over allegedly violating New Jersey consumer protection laws.

Paul Logan, on behalf of himself and those similarly situated, filed a class action lawsuit on Sept. 10 in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Middlesex County Court against Club Metro USA LLC; Club Metro USA Franchising LLC; HFIG-Old Bridge LLC, doing business as Club Metro USA Old Bridge; and ABC Financial Services Co. Inc. in connection with a membership agreement which allegedly violates the New Jersey Health Club Service Act (HCSA), the Retail Installment Sales Act (RISA), the Consumer Fraud Act (CFA), and Truth-in Consumer Contract, Warranty, and Notice Act (TCCWNA).

The complaint states that on or around October 2013, Logan notified the staff of the defendant that he wished to terminate his membership, which he opened on Nov. 19, 2010. Despite Logan notifying the defendant numerous times of canceling membership, going so far as to mail a certified letter requesting cancellation of membership, the defendant allegedly continued to charge and automatically debit plaintiff for dues, according to the complaint.

Logan alleges that Club Metro has made it difficult for members to cancel service, violating HCSA and CFA by continuing to renewing monthly membership charge members upon expiration of initial terms, and by violating the RISA by imposing fees not authorized by RISA.

Logan is demanding a trial by jury and is seeking an undisclosed amount for treble damages, statutory damages of no less than $100 for each offense, attorney fees and court costs, and any other rewards deemed fit by the court. He is represented by Joseph LoPiccolo and John N. Poulos of Poulos LoPiccolo PC in Ocean, N.J. and by the Wolf Law Firm LLC in North Brunswick, N.J.

Forming Different LLC's in each location and calling yourself independent is just a way to protect yourself from any lawsuits.

My 7am Wednesday sessions with personal trainer Rowel Timbal has unexpectedly become the highlight of the last three months.
In addition to proper form, posture, and a weight training program, Rowel taught me how to tailor my diet to maximize physical results. Extremely patient in answering roughly a thousand of my questions per session, Rowel instructs with clarity in explaining the benefit of each exercise in relation to others of greater complexity. Extremely professional, friendly, and engaging, he cares greatly in the interest of his clients, their progress and comfortability in the training.
I highly recommend personal training with Rowel. As stated, it became the highlight of my week and especially important to me now during quarantine. These sessions helped me in terms of building positive energy, motivation, and engagement in that every week I was learning something new.

I enjoy going to Club Metro Jersey City. It has everything I look for in a gym. Especially the rules to users at this time of Covid-19 I see that they are met. Each user must sanitize whatever they are using before and after. Sanitizer bottles are provided for each user.
The protein shakes bar is amazing! Very varied. So far, I have tried three delicious flavors.
I'm looking forward to classes like yoga and/or Zumba being activated because I'm going to be the first enrolling on them.
The communication system with users is good when there is a change on the regular opening/closing time due to any circumstance like snow.
The atmosphere is calm, the staff excellent. I'm grateful for the effort that Club Metro Jersey City staff does every day.
Overall, everything is well maintained and clean.
Something that I don't like so much is that the mirrors are half-body. The only thing I would change would be full-body mirrors. Perhaps it's for safety I don't know.

Club Metro has done a great job of keeping the gym very clean during these times. Each member is required to walk around with a spray bottle of cleaner, and there are many paper towel dispensers. In addition to the cleaning procedures, Club Metro has a wide variety of cardio and strength machines, as well as free weights and racks. They also have a studio area open for member use with kickboxing bags and social distancing markers. Overall, I am very pleased with the gym.

The team is great and respectful and has a great knowledge manager whose always ready to help. The place is clean and well organized which is important during these COVID times. They have a juice bar and nutritional snacks. They offer boot camps and 1 on 1 trainers, in addition to their nutritionist. There's no real down side to the place other than it being far from where I live, but that's not their fault

Gym is large with an open floor area with free weights and machines, turf area with kettlebells and miscellaneous equipment for cross-training type workouts, as well as a studio for classes which you could use for yoga, stretching, rolling, etc when no classes are going on. There’s also tanning and a bike room, and not to mention physical therapy available.

Locker rooms are spacious and have showers (for use after social distancing guidelines are ended) and are always clean.

They have a perks/rewards program, smoothie bar, and drinks & snacks available for purchase.

The location is great within the Newport plaza/mall right across from the path station.

Overall, I think this is the best gym in the area for the price and it was a no brainer for me when I joined about 8 months ago now. Highly recommend.

This gym is conveniently located next to the Path station. It has all the needed equipment for a good workout. The staff are friendly and the workout areas are always clean and organized. My only complaint is that the locker room lacks ventilation and it often smells bad. Besides that, I would recommend this gym to anyone. Especially given its price. It's a great bang for your buck.

This Gym at the heart of Newport is nothing less than 5 on 5 for what a gym should be. Nice gym hours from as early as 5 and extended weekend hours till late evening. Gym ambience is neat and clean with lot of dedicated area for all kinds of gym users. I am sadly discontinuing this gym only because I moved to a different t area in Jersey City and parking near to the gym is really a big problem and I would say the only negative That I can think of. Ohh by the way you also have to try their awesome shakes to kill your hunger after every workout.

Solid gym. I enjoy going here at night typically after 8pm. It's quite empty during this time; even more empty than going early in the morning. There is a nice shower and sauna area and the locker rooms are nice and of decent quality. The gym has everything you need and weights are organized in the right order which I always appreciate.
