Five Star Swim School in Edison offers a clean, well-maintained indoor saltwater pool heated to 90°F, creating a comfortable environment for swimmers of all ages. Small class sizes (3-to-1 student-to-instructor ratio) ensure personalized attention, and instructors are consistently praised for their patience, professionalism, and ability to build confidence quickly.
Overall, Five Star delivers quality instruction, excellent facilities, and a caring team.

Unprofessional and Uncaring Staff
> "The staff at Five Star Swim School Edison are incredibly rude and unprofessional, especially the Assistant manager - Nicolas. He doesn't seem to care about anyone's geniune request or problems when a request was made to reschedule a make-up swim class as I had to go out of city on work assignment. No one seems to care about the children or their progress. Every single class is prepaid and costs money, simply by saying a makeup class in special circumstances can not be reschedules seems like it is a money making scam and the managemwnt has instructed there staff to rip off there customers on the pre-text of policy. A truly terrible experience dealing with Assistant manager." A Manager is to resolve a problem or provide a solution to a problem, simply washing away hand by saying it's our policy and nothing can be done for a class which is about to happen in the future was.clearly turned down. It feels like they are deliberately misleading customers and have no respect for their clients."
I hope google had an option to give -ve star rating.... I would have definitely given that.... and im surprised how the five-star swim is still keeping such an assistant manager - Nicholas.... he definitely doesn't deserve to be a manager and doesn't assist any clients to provide a solution to the problem....or a part of a five-star swim...

I cannot say enough good things about Five Star Swimming School! My child has been attending their classes for a few months now, and the improvement in their swimming skills is incredible.
What makes them stand out:
Best Student-to-Instructor Ratio (3:1): The small class size ensures that each child receives personalized attention. This has made a huge difference in my child's progress.
Classes Grouped by Age and Skill Level: The classes are perfectly tailored to suit different age groups and skill levels. My child, who is in the Guppies class (2.5 yo - 5 yo), feels very comfortable and engaged.
Saltwater Pool - Heated to 90° degrees: The pool is always warm and inviting, which makes the lessons enjoyable, even for the youngest swimmers.
Passionate and Highly Trained Staff: The instructors are not only skilled but also incredibly passionate and patient. They create a fun and safe learning environment that my child looks forward to every week.
Fun and Safe Environment: Safety is clearly a top priority here, and the fun activities keep the children excited about learning to swim.
Year-round Swim Lessons: The year-round availability of lessons ensures that the kids can continuously improve their skills without any interruptions.
Overall, Five Star Swimming School offers an outstanding swim program. The structured levels, from Seahorse to Stroke Development, mean there is a clear path for progression as children grow and improve. I highly recommend this swim school to any parent looking for a safe, effective, and fun environment for their child's swim education.

Enrolling in swimming classes was one of the best decisions I've made! The instructors are highly skilled and patient, making learning enjoyable and accessible for all skill levels. The facilities are top-notch, with clean pools and well-maintained equipment. Each class is structured to improve technique and build confidence in the water. Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your strokes, these swimming classes offer a supportive environment to achieve your aquatic goals.

For quite some time we searched for a good swim school for our baby. Some one referred this place. We started around 2 months ago. First class was OK. Second class was less than OK. Well I finish the month doing the same classes, same song and I WAS TRAINING MY BABY while the instructors were chatting to each other. Wanted to cancel but we were late so another month was charged and now we needed to wait until the following month. No instructor EVER had physical contact with the baby. I started thinking, I'm paying for class which is a GROUP class, for an instructor but they don't talk to the baby or even interact with them. I really believe group classes are a waste because if your baby is advanced is obligated to do the same as the others or if the baby isn't learning never will because the classes ARE ALWAYS THE SAME. My baby is a natural swimmer, We've been practicing since last summer, he does kicks, jumps, goes under water etc. But all they do is sing the wheels on the bus which is fine. This facility "teaches babies/kids" right? Well there's only ONE close door room with the changing bed for a baby, how crazy is this. Always waited over 20 minutes with my baby socking wet because another mom was using the room. I can't even start with the smell, so they're close on FRIDAYS, so I will think is to maintain the facility, so I thought. !! Smells like pee all over, like a true public bathroom from a train station. I couldn't even shower myself after the pool. Showers were disgusting. We still have 1 month left, but my husband said why bother is not they going to teach him something new. So we lost our money. Believe it or not theres baby's who had been doing the same thing for over 6 months. Before you been upgraded to the next stage your baby has to be 2 years old. Regardless if your baby is advanced or not. WHATTTT!!!!

They are cheater. Their manager Mrunali is rudest . She does not know how to speak with customer. When covid19 pandemic started they have our 119$ deposit and 2 swim lessons remaining. When we called them at that time they said you can use any time your remaining lessons. When we call them again in 12/20 they said same you can use your deposit and do your remaining swim lessons any time.
When we call them on 9/21 they said our policy has been change and you have to pay NONREFUNDABLE registration fee again to use your remaining lesson and your deposit..
They have taken HUGE PPP forgotten LOAN from government at pandemic time. and now they are cheating their customer and asking to reregister and pay nonrefundable fee to use our deposit and swim lesson.

NOT TRUSTABLE AT ALL. Most importantly You Can’t talk with the manager, all they can do is employee will explain you a policy and unfortunately most of us don’t read the whole freaking paper and just sign. When the situation comes up instead of taking accountability of the amount your time you been with them they just said this is our policy, sorry we can’t help. So Please be careful with the plans you choose, don’t get trapped in the whole year payments. I am not the person who writes the reviews, but this time I m really disappointed and don’t want anyone else to experience this way. The funny thing I went there to continue my older ones classes and enroll the younger ones and I ended up to know that they just can’t give me the makeup classes left on the account because I signed some of there policy blindfolded. Thank You Very Much for the lesson.

I was nervous to book a party here based on ALL reviews as a whole especially regarding customer service :( My friend had an awesome experience last year which made me excited! I visited Five Star Swim for open swim sessions twice and these poor reviews make sense now. I visited on two separate ocassions with different staff members both times. I won't go into detail as to what I observed. I will just rate it as an okay experience because the atmosphere has such great potiental to be AMAZING if only they trained or hired great people to work there. As a kids party planner and enthusiast, employee attitudes and diligence to customers is number 1 priority to have families and people enjoy a place like Five a star and revisit over and over again. Hopefully there can be a drastic change ASAP since this place is the perfect place for kids to celebrate their birthdays and/or learn how to swim!
Best of luck, hopefully I'd be able to witness it :)

My niece went here, I took her a few times while her mom was busy at work. From my experience it wasn’t a good one. There were bandaids at the bottom of pool, black stuff floating around. The office individuals seem like they don’t know what they’re doing. The assistant manager Julia has an attitude tone of voice and seems like she doesn’t want to be there. On the other hand, Monali does seem like she gets frustrated a lot. I heard her raise her voice at one of her employees…it really makes me wonder if she is a manager or one of their friends. More respect is needed. Some of the instructors are really good and you can see they are doing their best to help. One of the instructors a short girl named Brianna, she talks to the other instructors the males as if they are dating, and she sits around rarely doing anything but talk and pretend like she’s working. My niece did learn a lot from other instructors she would talk about them a lot. Other than that great job to the instructors!!!

1st off let me just say I absolutely love FIVE STAR SWIM SCHOOL. My son Amir is 5 years old. Reason for me signing him up was his fear of the water. With just a few classes he quickly overcame his fear. A major factor is how warm the water is so its a bit easier to get him inside. Next factor is how patient the instructors are with the kids. No need to name drop because EVERYONE is awesome and very attentive. Each instructor was able to win the trust over my son which making him a better swimmer weekly. It’s such a friendly vibe as soon as you enter the building. You’re greeted with a smile almost immediately. My son looks forward to each week being in attendance. Although Amir’s currently a Guppie, with his effort and the help of the Instructors I’m certain he will advance. I highly recommend any one to this school. Kids or adult.
Thank you

We had good experience earlier when kid was 6 months old, so thought let's again give try , but after COVID , this place is horrible, they not gives any feedback / eval for student , and when we ask it's just random feedback , they don't have any process of progress report,I personally knowing 8 parents, who are just paying like me $35 each sessions and paid more than 2k , and not seeing any progress after 1.5 yrs , so it's not based on students learning.
If you wants your kids to learn swimming , than pls enroll to other place , this place is just for keeping kid busy for 30 mins.
Front desk staff is terrible, asking on feedbacks they just reply we don't do individually, we have so many students.ans than comes up with random things , first time scooping is not , second time kicks are not good, head balance is not good etc.. no instructor working on those issue, and after 1-2 months again same reasons.

Buyer beware, read these reviews. The negative reviews are true, the positive reviews probably haven’t had their negative experience yet but it’s only a matter of time. I’m so glad that there are more options popping up in this area.
(1) Dishonest pricing policies, my son had been attending pre-COVID and we paused during COVID. When we returned all of a sudden there was a member registration fee we had never paid before. Also the month in advance payment so you’re always hooked into two months.
(2) Arbitrary rules, there are many of these. You can only schedule make up classes 10 days out. If you schedule a make up class and give them advance notice (6 days) that you are no longer able to make it they will not reschedule. Such ridiculous rules that have no rhyme or reason.
(3) Another arbitrary rule that has been a serious concern for me is that as a mom I take my son to this swim school but since he is over 4 he has to go to the boys bathroom by himself. He is too young to go to the bathroom alone but yet again this is one of the random rules. He’s not allowed to go to the woman’s restroom with me.
(4) There is visible mold on the door entering the pool.
(5) They really aren’t trying to help your kid learn to swim and advance. My son was in Guppies 2 and wasn’t advancing until I called them out on it and all of a sudden he was in Dolphin 1. They do this to keep you paying longer.
(6) The coddling of the students isn’t to their benefit. My son went to Woodbridge Community Center summer camp and on their swim days he had to wear a life vest as he didn’t pass their basic test. The warmer pool at Five Star isn’t worth it when they are not actually learning.

Arrogant front office teams(especially Monali), this school doesn't care about child's progress, they dont want to listen feedback for improvements. Instructors are changing every week and some instructors are there just to hold kids to move from one end of pool to other.

They couldn’t use my deposit for November and I had to pay for the month of December . My daughter had 4 make up clases to take and non of it was refundable. 3 clases for $400 just because this is their policy and no adjustment at all can be made. Not even with the pandemic circumstances. I guess this is how they make their money. Will never attend this school again.

Monali P (General Manager) was very curt and unprofessional when I simply asked a question regarding the change of instructor/student ratio.
She was rudely dismissive and seemingly annoyed with me inquiring about the lag time between the children’s instruction. Monali’s body language was down right disgusting. When I brought it to her attention, she simply made the excuse “that’s how I talk”. Not acceptable when dealing with paying customers.

Horrible experience! They keep the kids in the same level for longer time, clearly on purpose. If they have right intentions, they should focus on the strokes kids really need improvement rather then making them do same thing repetitively. Eventually my daughter got bored and refused to go! So finally, I had withdraw her because they refused to refund my money. She had four classes left and they only gave me credit that can be used only for one class! In short they are all rude (both with parents and kids) and clearly only there to make money. Don’t waste your time and money by sending your kids here.

Horrible experience after taking swim lessons for more than a year at this place. My daughter was taking swim lessons for almost a year without much progress. The progress hugely depends upon teacher, but frequently changing teachers is a big problem. Another problem is inexperienced teachers. The last session we attended had the least experienced teacher which wasn't letting kids go at all, they were completely supported even when they were in level 2. Then I told the teacher to let her go so she puts in efforts to learn. After couple times of telling this to the teacher, the teacher let her go all the way and did not even catch her even when she started to drown! this was the ridiculous experience after which we decided to move on. I expressed my anger to the teachers but they weren't much apologetic, they kept on telling me that I asked them to let her go. That made me wonder if they even know anything about teaching swim lessons! They did not even know the difference between letting a child go vs letting it drown! Would not recommend to anyone after this experience!

Took my three year old to a trial class. The beginner toddler class is called "guppies." There were two instructors with 6 toddlers. You could tell they were extremely overwhelmed. They weren't mean to the kids, but were not happy or playful at all. One point a girl from the office walks out & one of the instructors says "if I have another class with 6 guppies I'm leaving" like seriously?? The instructors didn't look a day over 18 & i understand toddlers are a lot to handle- so don't stick teenagers with six toddlers that they can't handle. I was extremely disappointed because the facility is nice & the staff was friendly & I really wanted it to work out. I'll be taking my son somewhere else where they have instructors that can handle a 3 year old.

I think 5 start swim school should be called No STAR Swim school. I agree with some of the other reviews about Rude staff and holding your child back in each level even if they are capable of performing well at the next level. After 2 years of attending 5 STAR swim school for my child I will say I am extremely disappointed with their staff including the manager Monali and instructor Taylor. They made false statements to me and my child that he would be moving up to the next level by the end of the session and when it was time to move him up the instructor Taylor flatly refused that she had made any such statements. The instructors keep changing almost every week and there is no consistency in how they teach you swimming. Extremely overcrowded, poorly managed swim school and overpriced swim lessons for poor quality and inconsistent swim lessons. I recommend don't waste your time and money on a place like this which will only disappoint you and your child sooner or later!!!

Agree to previous reviews about rude staff, not allowing the kids to progress and yes the manager Monali super sweet talker till you register and then she shows her true rude attitude . They keep you kid in the lowest level possible even though they are capable for the next level. I heard a couple of other parents also had similar issues. They should have some quality of customer service for the price they charge.

My 4yo daughter has been taking classes here for a little over a year. I like this particular swim school after trying many others (YMCA, Ricochet, etc) due to the small class ratios and the teachers are all really patient with her. I was surprised they don't teach with floaties but their methods work. Bonus that she doesn't smell like a chlorine bomb coming out of the pool. I'd definitely recommend this school.

This a great school to bring your kids to go swimming. They have a great staff from the teacher to the office manager. Manager Monali P. Is very helpful and polite. His teacher are very patient, hand on with the kids development and great with feedback to assist with my son growth as a swimmer. My son enjoys his time there and is becoming a good swimmer.

We enrolled our 3 year old this past summer for a summer semi-private session. Semi-Private classes will have 2 instructors with 3-4 kids.
I was really nervous having her take this class with strangers. On Day 1, Miss Joanna, who was our main instructor, couldn't make it to the class and they had assigned a substitute for that class which happened to be a male instructor. Unfortunately, my daughter had an issue with that so she refused to get in. However, there was a kind instructor, Miss Maria, who was on duty came towards us and kindly asked my daughter if she wanted to go into the pool and she proceeded as if she was the main instructor. I was so grateful for her to step in to get my daughter in the water especially to make my daughter's first day a great experience! THANK YOU!
Just shortly after 1 month of taking the class with Miss Joanna, my daughter was brave enough to let go off her floaties during a summer pool event with the family. We've already enrolled her to the winter session but this time for a private session with Miss Maria and it's been unbelievable the progress she has made in the last several weeks. She's becoming a stronger and motivated swimmer with her.
I've been also pleased with several instructors who had the chance to teach my daughter when Miss Joanna and Miss Maria were not there. They are all well trained and know how to deal with all these children especially around 3-4 year olds. Thank you Five Star! I'll be recommending this place.
PS: this pool has chlorine and also saltwater. My daughter has eczema and I have noticed that her skin have not been dry like other times when she goes to other pools... the saltwater is definitely a plus and the pool temperature is always warm for her!

Five Star Swim school over all is a great swimming school for either beginners, those who want to improve their swimming skills and those who want to know how to swim the four strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly). The classes are divided by age and the skills the child knows, I have noticed they evaluate my child before moving her up a level because they want her to be able to swim independently, and I am 100% okay with that. I have also seen the instructors study from their instructors manual on their break and I couldn't be happier! I have also over heard the instructors mention some of them were either on a swim team, or are currently on a swim team and that is great news because they know exactly what they're teaching our kids! There is always a life guard on duty and the majority of the instructors are also life guards. I know my kid is in great hands.

The girl (guard) who roam around pool during open swim, shouted so bad on my 9 year old girl to leave the pool at 2.00. my daughter was about to leave the pool , she was just 3 feet away. She came out before turning 2:01 n was so scared. I asked her that was not the way to deal with kids.. as she already came out at 2:00. Instead of apologies to kid, she shouted again with negative attitude.
She don't know how to deal with kids. Careless n mannerless..she can't shout on kids at all.

The center is good, the training is good, the teachers are good, the place is clean. But I wish the office staff improve on communication too. My kids come to this center. They are in the same level. When I asked for evaluation they moved my daughter (younger one) to next level. My son took it sportively. Next week they evaluated my son and moved him also to next level and gave him certificate also. THE TEACHER EVEN CONGRATULATED HIM. Today when I called to confirm on the schedules they informed that my son is qualified for next level from next season onwards. They mentioned that they have written that in the certificate. When I told them nothing is written in the certificate, they said they missed to write. When I asked them how could they evaluate and give certificate, the office staff raised her tone and told they can’t do anything and the instructer felt my son needs some more improvement. If that’s the case what was the evaluation for and why was the certificate provided and why was he congratulated. First time hearing about “evaluation for future”.
Update: Today the manager explained to me that the instructor feels he needs to improve on his skills to move to next level. At the shower room when I told this to my son, his reaction was - seriously? The instructor asked me “why are you in this class? I thought you got moved to next level”.

I came here to enroll my son who is 3 years and had to walk away seeing how disgusting the front office lady treated us. C’mon people, gone are the days of kindness? If you are an adult, behave like one. I asked about the classes available and the looks she put up on the face were unbelievable - she was just not willing to give details. Oh well, she is a college kid so yet to learn little mannerism . My 3 year old behaves better than her - at least answers properly to questions when asked. Five star should look into hiring adults who know to treat people. I decided to spend my money elsewhere.

My 5 year old son attended this swim school last semester and had a wonderful time. Because of this, I signed him up for the winter semester.
Today was the 1st day of winter lessons and the water and air temperature were so cold! All of the children were shivering and hardly able to swim. The instructors were also clearly cold and I heard them complaining.
When I spoke to the manager, Monali, her response was that there was a pipe leak and they had to refill the pool before class started (I saw a hose refilling the pool). Her only response to my complaint was "Obviously they can't swim without water, so we had to fill it. There's nothing we can do about that. The pipe broke". Ok? So if the water is STILL filling at the start time of class why didn't they cancel? Children get sick easily and I'm not paying for my child to freeze for 30 minutes and barely swim. The manager could have handled this situation better. After I left the office TWO other parents complained to her and I witnessed her and the other office staff laughing hysterically when the parents exited the office. Very unprofessional reaction. Hopefully next week is better or we will not be returning and I will definitely demand a refund.
Emergencies happen, but their response was inappropriate.

Very poor customer service. First, they tried to fail my kids for level 1 a third time earlier this year. Only when I insisted the manager to go through their list of requirements to move to the next level and test the kids again, she personally watched them and agreed they were ready to move on to level 2. If I didn't complain, my kids would have been stuck again wasting lessons on level 1. I was extremely unhappy with manager and customer service. Teachers seem to be good but some seem to be always shouting at kids. In my opinion JCC and ricochet are much better. Also my kids were legit sick one time and they wanted a doctors note right away in order to get a make up. Ridiculous!! My kids were home sick and they wanted me to leave them so I can bring a note.?!? I feel like they are Unbelievable and cold hearted!! I had to make my spouse rush home from work to deliver a doctors note. Email with attachment was not sufficient. Its like they dont realize that they are making things unbearable for parents.

The Five Star Swim School in Edison, NJ is true to its name!
I am a 50 year old swim student in serious need of professional swim instruction that's appropriate to my comfort level and needs. Though Five Star is clearly and appropriated geared to children (I wish my parents had sent me to swim school 42 years ago!) their adult swim instruction program is superb.
Monali at the front desk provides incredible guest services. I truly appreciate how she promotes the services at the school, is willing to solve schedule problems that tend to crop up and hold the fort down all while maintaining an incredibly happy, clean and safe environment.
Tori my primary instructor has been incredibly patient and helpful, she is full of experience and knowledge in learn to swim techniques. Any adult or child learner would benefit greatly if she was your instructor. She can make any swim student feel safe and comfortable.

This place is becoming the worst in customer service.Wait a question to this management ? Are you here to provide the service to the customer or you are paying the customers and expecting a service from them ? Your staff behavior is like that.I joined my kid spending $690 for a one one session.Till now 2 instructors are changed (1 in between was changed due to instructor not available or sick)and we are half way through the course.I don't know how many more instructors we have to see.We were asked to reschedule as some kid throwed up in the pool.We have to be behind you to get a make up class ? Wait I never saw such a pathetic treatment of customers. We finally got a make up class after 3 weeks of "hard work and begging" with your staff. So now my kid had fallen sick due to bad weather outside .we are asked to bring In doctor certificate. For a fever and cold you will not always have to go to a doctor and can have the kid rest well and recover with OTC medicines. As a customer you expect some polite response and favor from the staff. When I call to have a make up class,We were bluntly told by your staff that this will be considered as missed class. How fair is that ? Worst customer service and you lost us as a customer already.
$690 dollars down the drain.I have highest confidence that you will lose all your customers.Pathetic

This place has the worst customer service ever!!!! The office staff is very hostile, not willing to work with you on requests/changes and the answer is always NO with a hostile face. Their goal is take the money from us and when things change, their first answer is that they don't do refunds. I had a long conversation with the manager who was super defensive telling me that I read the policies and agreed to it and that they don't do refunds but if I asked cash they would have given me cash but since I never asked it was my fault??? How would anyone know that no refund did not mean cash refund but just credit card??? And, it is a pain to get off the program as again they don't do refunds but after talking to the manager for 20 mins there is a way to get out by filling the withdrawal form??? Super disappointed with the customer service, they think that they are the lords and can do anything they want. And many parents agree with me and it is not too far that these guys start losing their customers

My son almost drowned because of carelessness of back-office staff and instructor not confirming which class and level he has subscribed for. When asked to play the recorded video, the instructor just skipped through it. Merely apologizing afterward doesn't suffice the negligence, hence be very careful with this class.
Very rude back office staff, and based on experience equally dumb too. No option for make-up class, even if you kid is sick without doctor's certificate.
At times overly crowded pool.
Look out for more options before taking this up.

We recommend 5 Star Swim School to all our friends because we couldn't be happier with our experience there. The classes are short and predictable, which is important for young learners. Each simple skill they teach leads to swimming independence. The teachers are skilled, attentive, and they like working with kids. Classes aren't too large, and there is very little sitting around in a session. The pool is very warm, so little ones don't get too cold, either.
Our daughter started as a non-swimmer, and by the end of the year she was swimming independently -- and loving it! We're returning again this year because we liked it so much.

Extremely disappointed! Was looking forward as I read good reviews, but this experience turned out the opposite. First the instructors my child had were busy paying attention to everything else going on but the children half the time. Then what really got me upset is that the day I scheduled a trial class no one had even mentioned there would be a $15 charge for this. At the end of class I went to the office to fill out a sheet that is required and the girl who was at the desk was just plain rude! As I asked her questions her answers were "I guess". Are you kidding me?! Then she hits me with the "Today will be $15" I mentioned it was a trial class and no one had told me there was a fee when I scheduled. Her response "I know, $15" . My kids will NOT be going there.
