Owner is a complete jerk. Would never recommend this gym to anyone. I have been a member at other Gold's gym along with others for over 30 years. Think twice about joining this gym.

I went in for a “free” pass day (that cost $1.07) and was met by the rudest sales rep I’ve ever interacted with. Every conversation with her has been with a condescending tone, which is especially surprising given this is a customer-driven business. I hope she treats others with more respect—as a fitness instructor myself, I understand that gym goers are seeking community and health in a place where they feel safe and welcome, which is a complete departure from the interactions I’ve had with her, and ultimately deterred me from joining. I hope this review can be a learning experience for the staff there.

Very easy to sign up but in order to cancel you have to be very Computer literate and extra patient with the cancelation process. The gym can not cancel your membership. They will provide you with an 800 number you have to hold on for about 40 minutes as you can hear in the background people are now working from home so it goes into a cue. Only so they can take all of your information and give you an email address to write them and tell them you want to cancel and why. At this point you will still be charged for 2 months ahead so it will literally take you a full quarter of the year to be completely finished with them. Not my cup of tea, lack of transparency is on steroids with this Gym/Company. Better off buying a monthly pass as long as possible. Not worth enrolling. Support your local gym, at least you can walk in and talk to someone face to face. UPDATE !! As of 1/20/2023 I spoke to the General manager through email. His name is Ron Noonan, I expressed my concern and explained how his system is flawed and requested a 52 dollar yearly annual charge refund because I cancelled my member ship 2 months ago. He replied (you called in November and it takes 3 months) it's simple with a not so "educated" tone. Hey Ron keep the 52 bucks and save yourself a reply to my email 5 days later. Not interested.

Don't join this gym unless you want to be bond to them for a lifetime.
They have a hidden clause that says you can't leave them unless you have a permanent disability or relocating. No mention of this upon joining but it's in the fine print when speaking with the customer service representative. This is what I am being told by the customer service rep. NEVER HEARD THIS BEFORE. READ!! READ!! .....the agreement before signing people.
This is trickery and trying to keep people in duress.
Oh and the cancellation process is not being done in-house but you have to call an 888 number.
Goodluck to those who join unawares like I did.
Happy New Year

This is the only golds gym I’ve been to that doesn’t take Tivity Health/ silver sneaker insurance. Every other golds gyms takes it but not this one, disappointing! Also they told me I had to talk to the owner but wouldn’t ever give me the number so… (edit) the real question is do you guys take it or not?

UPDATE: 2022
The pandemic forced me to re-evaluate this location. Once reopened I found the early Covid safety protocols non- existent, the whole feel of the gym changed, not friendly at all. Being my husband is ill, I needed a location that took the protocols seriously. That’s when I moved our membership to Flanders and it has been a delight! All employees are friendly and go beyond to assist me and my husband. Hackettstown was great for 10 years, but our choice for a family friendly atmosphere is now FLANDERS GOLD GYM!

Been a member since construction over a decade ago. Great location and facility. Only wish they offer discounts for older members and classes for seniors since many of them have unique needs.

This is an excellent gym with an old school philosophy. The staff is professional and personable. Kim is always smiling and friendly, a pleasure to speak with. Deana is a helpful and knowledgeable person with a great attitude. The entire staff works well together and keeps the gym clean, neat and well maintained. The trainers are qualified to work with someone just starting out or advanced individuals who want to compete. This is a family type gym where its members aren't just a swipe card or number. The staff knows your name and always greet you when walking in and out. There is a large well lite parking lot. Overall this is a great gym and staff with a positive, friendly and health conscious attitude.

The trainers and instructors are knowledgeable and provide modifications so everyone feels comfortable, the front desk employees are friendly and helpful, the sales team is honest, and the owner (Ron) ensures the gym is always clean and managed well. My review for some reason have disapeared??!!!
As I said before people Run Away From this place!!!!!
They made you sign agreement which you can never Cancel!!! Lady said No Contract, I was holding my 4 minth old son, she gave me stuff to sign and clearly said you can cancel anytime you want that was very important to me as I wasnt sure if Im gonna be able to find someone to take care of him while im at the Gym.
Then when you move you have to tell them your New Address, bank statements and More!!!
There are more Gyms in Hackettstown which offer you more, cheaper and No CoNTRACT!!!!!
The oldest lady there with Dark hair she is so unprofessional, as many times as I came she never smiles, never said Hi, and was making faces when I mispronaunced some words or corrected me as English is my second language very unprofessional and rude, that's #1 why I never went back!
Horrible experience!!!
She is not wearing a mask properly but tells others to!!
Girls at the front are awesome, kind and very sweet, can't imagine how they work there(((

Stop replying to my review pretending like you want to help, i've been trying to Cancel my membership even after my Contract which you made me sign is over still have to show my new Address and bank statements!!! Thats privacy people!!!!

After being out of the gym for nearly a year, I wanted to get back into it. I want to preface this with the fact I used to attend this facility 4-6 days a week prior to March 2020.

I had been to the facility three or four times in the past week, and became increasingly frustrated with the lack of mask enforcement. Individuals either wearing it on their chin or only covering the mouth.

When expressed to a sales manager and training staff they addressed one or two individuals they were very understanding.

After seeing more people not properly wearing a mask nor it being enforced I went to the sales manager then the owner, Ron, to express my frustration and stating I need to cancel my membership. When I approached Ron was not wearing a mask and when talking to me he only covered his mouth.

After a waste of an argument where Ron stated “People don’t breathe out of their noses”(sic), and other non-related straw men, I requested to cancel my membership, for the third time. Ron states he’s from PA and it’s not an issue there. Great, Ron! Your gym is in New Jersey, where it’s still a public safety concern.

I’m beyond disappointed in the lack of understanding and professionalism with how the situation was handled. Don’t waste your money on an owner who only sees you as a dollar sign. I feel bad for the team as historically they’ve been great to me, but this selective enforcement is frustrating, a violation of public health initiatives, and abhorrent.

I’m not looking to be a “Karen,” but this attitude and lack of concern and professionalism is a slap in the face of every healthcare worker that has to deal with covid patients, to every family who lost someone to the virus, and to every person TRYING to abide by scientifically backed public health guidelines.

If i could give this place negative 5 stars I would. They only do contacts and their membership is $33 a month per person. With my 3 family members, were paying over $100 a month and their amenities here is not really worth it. I thought it was high compared to other gym memberships at $10 a month with no contact but I signed me up and a month later, husband up about in October with Deana. 2-3 months later, I decided to sign my 11yr daughter up. I did it over the phone after gaining trust with Deana and was told by Deana my daughter can use the facilities as long as I'm with her because she's under the age limit. We agreed to that and i figured that I just pay 2-3 more months at $33 a month. When my contract ended, I enquired to find out how much more it was for my daughter's to end. Deana signed my daughter up for an 18 month contract and never discussed this with me. This meant, my 12yr old who is not allowed in the gym without a parent and i can no longer attend this gym because my membership is over and I have to keep paying it for the next year. I contacted Deana and she started to avoid me like a bill collector. I finally went to the manager. I think her name was Donna. Her attitude was disgusting. She started yelling at me as if I was bothering her with this and said theirs nothing I could do about it. I didn't want to go over their heads but I was having so much trouble with this place. I finally called corporate and they said that she wasn't supposed to do this and they're taking me out of the contract but the problem is, they charged me over $500 in fees to do so. Avoid this place.. there's other gyms in the area with better customer service with no car salesman gimmicks..

I STRONGLY recommend avoiding joining this gym due to their cancellation policy and procedure. It is tantamount a scam and immoral that despite a change of address, they continue to harass me for payments "7 MONTHS" after cancellation of my membership. Having been told that my membership was cancelled, on multiple occasions, I am still being sent collection letters requesting payments for over $350!? I have NEVER experienced such POOR customer service at any fitness institution in my life. If I continue to experience unauthorized contact, I will be forced to take legal action. ALL because I changed address and was no longer located in the area - unreal. I encourage you to look at other gyms that do not have such strict and difficult cancellation policies.

Still no response...Feb 25th 2021

Love this gym so much!!!! I was a little apprehensive to come back as I take care of my 90 year old grandmother and as a result am super coronavirus conscious, but this gym is doing the utmost to ensure a safe and clean environment; they are even going as far as to separate used and new pens at front desk. There are new cleaning stations that utilize disposable towels as well as hand sanitizer throughout the gym. I deeply appreciate the lengths they are going to to ensure the safety of their members!!!

I tried to cancel my membership due to the global pandemic and financial hardship because of said pandemic and this establishment is still charging me for two months despite my YEARS of being a loyal paying member. I do not reccommend, they will HOSE you for ever penny they can.

Edit in response to the owner: I did contact member services, this is where I got my information from. They "arent authorized" to do anything for me except only provided a web link to cancel my membership. You talk to a robot for 10 minutes before you even get to speak to a human being. Your staff has nothing to do with cancellation considering you use a 3rd party for your memberships. The way your business is run is unacceptable, especially in these trying times. Shame on you for taking advantage of people.

SCAMING a customer, is what this Gym does. Whem I sign up 1.5 years ago, they were desperate to sign me up and now I want to cancel my membership. IN ORDER to do that - I need to call some third party financial company and provide them "PERMANENT DISABILITY" letter. WAIT WHAT? Yes, I was shock asking them why do I need to give you this letter? And the response was - In order to cancel your membership, you must provide permanent disability letter. Isn't this is something they should have bring up while I was there first time for sign up? This is completely cheating to customer. And I would highly RECOMMEND, IF YOU/ANYONE IS THINKING TO SIGN UP - ASK THEM FOR "CANCELATION POLICY" FIRST

The gym here is really nice! As soon as you walk in, you are greeted with a smile from the staff members (Danielle, Ashley, Dena, Chad, Kim, Rob, etc.) Everyone’s friendly and the atmosphere there is absolutely warming and inviting. Ron, who is the owner, greeted me with a strong, energetic handshake when I first signed up. He made me feel like I have always been a member. He’s great! I used to go to this gym consistently but I’ve been going to the one in Flanders. When I work out in the evening, I want to get a great session in without being overcrowded. The gym is huge with an open floor plan but the equipments, barbells and weights I use get taken by the time I need it. People are friendly so I communicate and request to take turns. They don’t mind. I love the saunas in the women’s locker room! Urgh, I can’t get enough of it. I’d recommend this gym to anyone who lives in Warren County.

Friendly front-desk CSRs, but as a brand it's not worth the trouble, they don't have a swimming pool, and definitely no sauna, no steam room, no hot-tub with jets good for joints and relaxation after an intense workout or laps in the swimming pool, hence to me, it's not even worth to bother asking how much the membership is.
I'm a traveler, just passing by in the area, for business and used with a renowned chain that has all that I've mentioned above, (and more) at a decent affordable price, thus, I can't help but to compare.
Sadly, I am disappointed by this franchise chain or brand-name.
I can't even begin to understand how come they still have some paying customers, with just cardio and weights equipment.
Friendly and smiley CSRs, yes, nice people greeting you, but won't make up for lack of facilities and amenities, or convince some of us, who can compare, to sign up.

They refuse to fix the men's sauna and give ludicrous excuses as to why it is not being brought up to working order.

Pathetic excuse. Saunas do not have motors. Get a spa technician out there to get it up and running, get a new heating unit installed, refinish the sauna if it is burnt. Advertising an amenity and not keeping it running order for a sold year plus is absurd. Your excuse is childish and clearly cop-out as your too cheap to replace it. When your overall company rating is .5 stars I dont care if it's a franchise or not you the owner should make it your business to have everyone walk out with a 5 star experience as it is your name on the line unless you want to be the .5 star clown embodying golds gym reputation, where you can't even get a hold of any corporate office. It actually reminds me alot of your gym, last time I called to see if the sauna had been brought up to working order I also "asked who's in charge?" To which the response was "I actually dont know" I'm not blaming any employee but how does anyone work anywhere and not know who's in charge, absolutly ludicrous! Show some virtue and fix that sauna!

The cancellation policy is horrible! Complete scam... even after you tell them you want to cancel.. they continue to charge your an additional 2 months after the fact. Unfortunately... my son was charged an additional 3 months after their 2 month cancellation window then sent to a collection agency.

I was also getting charged additionally for child care even after I stopped the enrollment for the past 15 months through my business account! I’m still waiting to get my refund on that as well.

Gold’s... your admin has got to do better! Especially for the money I pay to you guys. I have been a member since they opened their doors. There should really be more attention to your customer service.

The GM has been made aware of the situation and still fails to address it or she just brushes off the situation to the collection agency.

Maybe if I put a collection against the gym... I’ll be able to get my money back that was taken from my bank account.

Besides that... the gym is a clean facility and staff are friendly but the accounting side... needs ALOT OF IMPROVEMENT.

This globo gym succeeds in maintaining a varied clientele; it has a free weight area, a wide array of cardio choices (spin bike, treadmill, ergs, a cardio theater, etc), weight training machines, a basketball court, all kinds of group classes (spinning, pilates, yoga, etc), sauna, tanning, locker rooms with showers, plus they offer kidcare and personal training. I only lift and do some cardio at Gold’s. I started training there consistently in February of 2017; I wasn't sure how to do my accessory lifts so I booked a PT session with Rob, one of the gym's personal trainers, great experience. So almost a year later:
Backsquat from 1RM: 176# > 210# (176#x5x3)
Deadlift from 1RM: 200# > 255# (225#x5x3)
Standing OH Press from 1RM: 65, 70# > 100# (85#x5x3)
Benchpress from 1RM: 90# > 135# (114#x5x3)
Dena, Kristin and the other girls at the front desk are friendly & welcoming; there’s no 'club camaraderie’ (not the gym’s fault, everyone is doing their own things), but the membership is friendly; and comprises all ages.
CONS: Only one power cage (other two angled squat racks face mirrors). No platforms, no reverse hyper, no ghd, no bumpers, no chalk allowed.

Mixed review.....I have been a member for many years and throughout my time there I have not had a single complaint. Gym is well maintained, clean, equipment is repaired fairly quickly and the staff are friendly. I mainly go to lift weights and do some cardio workouts 2-3 days/week.
However, over time I have started to get more and more frustrated on the fact that when I first joined i had all the amenities at my disposal, which included a Sauna. The men’s sauna has been broken for years now and the fact that ownership has just let it sit there without caring to repair is pretty disappointing. I understand it was damaged by someone but why must all of us suffer because of one idiot, it has been YEARS. Also, at the same time you have the females sauna fully functional and working all this time. Not fair. Again I go to the gym to work out but having a sauna was definitely a perk I would look forward to when I first joined. I will take this into consideration next time my membership expires, going to have to start looking at other options.

** Update 03Aug16 - so almost two months later and still none of the below has been addressed, not even throwing out and spending $30 bucks for new basketballs. Just a disgrace!! Can't wait for our membership to be up in October!! **

This is the fifth gym I've belong to in my life and here are the things that are unacceptable:

(1) The basketballs for the basketball court are literally like 10-20 years old and are falling apart. They can't even spend $5 bucks a ball and buy new ones from Walmart. Just ridiculous.

(2) Use disgusting reusable rags to wipe down machines. You realize how unhealthy and unsanitary this is? Your basically wiping other people's sweat onto your machine, from the rag, when you try to clean down before use. Every other gym I've belong to, either had disposable paper towels with sanitarizer or wet ones to wipe the machines down.

(3) Never see one employee ever cleaning the equipment during the day or at closing time. Every gym prior they are proactive at cleaning down the machines and equipment at least once or twice a day themselves.

(4) TVs are horrible. They have the smallest TVs possible to watch when doing cardio or weight circuit. Some TVs look like they are 10-15 years old and you have to squint to try to see what they say. Buy newer TVs that are bigger so we don't have to squint when we work out.

(5) Some of the cardio equipment (especially arc trainers and stairmasters) are in terrible shape and very old. Need to update the equipment. The stairmaster handle bars are literally falling apart.

(6) Hours for the gym are horrible. Really you close at 9pm on a Fri night? By the time we get home from work, eat dinner, we barely have enough time to go to the gym before they close. Should not be closing until 10pm on a Fri night. Also, should be open to 7pm on Sat and Sun to make it easier for people to have the evening to go to the gym. All my gyms prior did not close until 7pm or 8pm on the weekend.

(7) Should not be shutting TVs and equipment off 10-15 minutes before closing. Its extremely rude to the people working out. We have the right to work out until 10pm or 9pm when the gym closes. You don't shut the TVs off until the dot of 10pm or 9pm, etc. All my prior gyms did it this way. Also, doors should not be locked 30 minutes prior to not let anyone else in. We are paying good money for our memberships and have the right to come in and do a 10-20 minute workout if we want!

(8) Choice of movies in the theater suck. Have a lot of Rated R movies which parents don't want their kids to see and a lot of movies no one has ever heard before. Get better selection of movies to watch.

(9) Never see staff clean the bathrooms. Constantly have lunk head body builders leaving the powder from their energy drinks all over the bathroom sinks and no one ever cleans it up from the staff. Additionally, bathrooms have a lousy odor to them. Some air freshener would be appreciated!

Would love to know where my monthly membership dues are going for gym maintenance and repair because I don't see them at work ever!

Golds Gym management proves to be unprofessional, unreliable and does not handle problems that occur, but instead they hide from them. After several promises over days and days of asking for a phone call back or resolution- nothing. These were promises from managers and directors- not just the front desk. The personal training department gave me 5 different trainers in a five month span- all with different philosophies on diet and exercise. This starting from scratch every few weeks. Each time a trainer left, they cancelled on me the day of or day before via a text. Will never recommended them to anyone ever again. They had the chance to make it right and continually did not.

I'm enjoying the gym so far. Great staff, clean, newer machines, not insanely crowded. Not only are the machines newer, I think they're better than a lot of other machines at other gyms I've been to. (more adjustable than others)

Only thing I would like changed are the hours. While they have good hours (open pretty early) I would like to see later hours especially Friday and Saturday. Sundays fall in line with other gyms.
