Started coming here in August of 2024 after never being able to work out consistently my entire life. I found the structure of the classes really engaging and the community very supportive. Going to a gym for the first time and as someone who's struggled with disordered eating in the past, I was worried there'd be a lot of toxic diet culture but it really wasn't like that at all. All about balance, not restriction. There's also a wide range of ages and ability levels, which is a huge green flag in a gym. And Jack is the best :~)

Grit completely changed my relationship with exercise and nutrition. I've never been an athletic person but I gained a lot of confidence in my body's abilities. I wasn't really going for weight loss, but I know that's a goal for many so I will just add that I lost 30 pounds in the year I went to Grit. 12 of those pounds were from the 6 Week Challenge, which was a lot of fun, but the rest was just from working out consistently and being more mindful about my macros (which I did not know anything about before coming here, lol).

Sadly I am moving out of state but I would absolutely keep going to Grit if I could. This place is 100% worth making room in the budget for, if you can. Highly recommend :~)

I absolutely love Grit. I have been working out here for about two years. Chris, Matt and Oshane are all amazing. I get tailored workouts created for me personally, as well as help with diet plans. I followed Grit on social media well before I had the courage to join. My only regret is not joining sooner! I’m not particularly self-motivated, so joining a regular gym and being motivated to actually go has always been challenging for me. I joined Grit Fitness about four months ago and wish I had discovered this gym sooner. I can’t talk more highly of the owners/trainers Chris and Matt. They are the best at what they do and make you feel right at home. Everyone has their own individualized program based on their fitness goals. I came from doing HIIT group classes for years and have never lifted before like I can now- through a safe progressive program that they created for me. From the time I started until now I feel substantially stronger in only 4 months. With each workout I feel myself improve- Matt and Chris are on the floor with you keeping track of what you did the week before, to push yourself to do better each session. Truly a great fitness program! The flexibility and availability of booking sessions allows me to train with a variable schedule. GRIT does small group personal training, which is my absolute favorite type of workout. I decided to write a review after moving several months ago because I just haven't been able to find something that compares. I haven't been since July of 2022, so my experiences relate to that time frame.

Pros:
- The workouts are customized to you, and you get guidance from a trainer without the awkward interactions of one-on-one personal training. They'll correct your form and make sure you don't hurt yourself, but let you complete your workout without staring at you the whole time.

- You will get in better shape if you follow their plan. More muscles, better balance, and better endurance. Plus whatever specific goals you have.

Neutral:
-Cost: while the monthly price is a lot compared to a normal gym, it's comparable to other small group exercise classes per session. (yoga, pilates, xfit, etc.)

- Size: the gym itself is small, which means it's a little cramped at the busiest hours of the day.

- Gym dogs! While I love saying hi to a dog every morning, if you don't want a shiba inu "helping" you stretch and warm up this might not be the place for you.

Cons:
-The building itself has rain damage and isn't very clean. At least when I was there their was a bucket to catch rain water that seemingly had never been changed.

- Some of the other members are very obnoxious, and the trainers don't really care to try and make them calm down to make it more pleasant for everyone else. (Why are you screaming at 6:30 in the morning about whatever news item/coworker/other thing has you upset?) To the point where I just changed when I went to avoid certain people.

Overall, the pros of a great workout outweigh the negatives. It would be a FANTASTIC gym if they had a nicer building/more consistent cleaning, but for me that's not enough to remove a star.

I highly recommend Grit for anyone who’s trying to get stronger, lose weight, or learn and train for a better lifestyle. All the trainers are professional, knowledgeable, flexible with your schedule and genuinely invested in your health goals. I’ve learned so much about health and fitness in general and for my personal goals and body as well. Grit is a great place for all ages and body types because the trainers there are supportive and know what they need to do to help you reach your goals as long as you are ready too!

This gym is not well kept as compared to other gyms actually way more expensive then others at around 30$/hr with two sad looking owner dogs just wandering around and sometimes scare the heck out of you by coming at your face while you work out, broken ceiling tiles dripping water in rain, a claustrophobic space to work out and people looking to accommodate with each other to get a space to work out or even stretch. The guys charge for personal training but they just tell you do this and this work out that you can easily plan on an app or something.

Matt and Chris are the absolute best. They make going to the gym fun and easy. They plan specific workouts that are tailored to the Fitness and health goals you set with them. They make sure to demonstrate the workouts for you and are making corrections to your form when needed to make sure you’re getting the most of each workout. I have belonged to gyms in the past but I have never had the experience or results that I can see within myself over the 2 plus months. The programs are designed specifically for you and are changed every month. During that month, you are encouraged to challenge yourself and if possible increase your performance. The coaches are right there with you the whole time, watch carefully to assist you, or correct form so you don’t injure yourself. In the past three years, I watched my family join Grit and become a part of the environment. I saw the changes in them mentally and physically. I am happy I jumped on the Grit train. Matt, Chris and O’Shane are the nicest fitness coaches. They are very knowledgeable and are your biggest cheerleaders.

When I first met Matt I was like "let me commit for just a few months. What if I don't like you?" That was almost 8 months ago and, guess what, I like them! Chris and Matt are great (though the 2 doggies that roam the studio are better) and I always love the workouts. After my assessment we started with all of my weak areas, which surprisingly corresponded with the stuff I never did at the gym by myself because I hated it. So lots of core, lots of shoulder mobility, and they have some sort of weird thing about hamstrings.

The way the workouts are structured are great, incredibly varied and inventive, and you can really see and feel your progress from month to month. When I started I could barely do a plank, couldn't do any chin ups or pull ups, and could only do like 15 pushups. Now? I knock out unassisted chin ups and pull ups like it's nothing, do all kinds of difficult push up variations like with one leg off of an 18 inch box, and I PLANK LIKE A MOFO.

Even the hamstring thing has turned out great, because I'll only be wearing shorts with 5 inch inseams or less this summer.

Grit has a very diverse population, so don't worry about fitting in -- you will. And you'll have fun.

I even forgive them for all of the goblet squats.

Highly recommended! I am in my 50’s and came to Grit completely unsure of how to workout and afraid of getting injured. Chris made it so simple for me! On top of that the environment was so welcoming and non judgmental. I have a personalized program created by Chris that changes every 4 weeks as my abilities change. Not only do you receive programs tailored to you, Chris and Matt will show you proper technique to avoid any unnecessary injuries.

I've trained with O'Shane for over five years and to say I was working out before him is a little laughable. I absolutely love and enjoy working out at the Grit! Everyone is super nice and friendly, and all of the trainers always give everyone a good laugh. My personal trainer O'shane is a diamond in the rough. Before working out with him, I received a lateral release to correct an excessive patellar tilt. I recovered quickly but my knee didn't feel as young as it used to😂 . When I started training with O'shane, I told him what bothered me, what my limits were, and he remembered it all. He's corrected my form for safety and to avoid further injury, and he has given me tips (stretching, icing, etc) for outside of the gym. Ever since, it has gotten substantially better. My knee is stronger than it was prior to my surgery and it honestly feels like I never had it in the first place. Truly an amazing person and trainer, he is very accommodating, encouraging, and a lot of fun to be around!

I came to the gym with one goal, and that was to gain weight. I know right!. It’s rare to hear people say this. Grit fitness is not just a gym to workout ; it is more like a family, a team and a safe environment to be. Most trainers would coach you and do the opposite. Not at Grit fitness though. The trainers are professionals and amazingly friendly. I love it!
I met O’shane some few months back and training with him has been amazing. He doesn’t work against you but with you and that’s what I needed in a trainer. With O’shane, I’ve been able to meet my goal and I am a better version of myself after each workout session.

These guys really know their stuff! We start every class by stretching properly to prevent injury. The facility is very spacious and has everything you could possibly need to work out with there; some examples: a turf, sleds, skier, versa climber, hip thrusters, bikes, etc etc). The facility is cleaned thoroughly on a daily basis. Constantly having the equipment wiped down after each use. In times like covid, I feel completely safe with my health going to this facility. Matt, Chris & Jim are all very knowledgeable in the world of fitness, wellness & nutrition. I have been training with Matt for 9 years now. The programs he makes for me are completely tailored to what he knows is best for me while taking in account previous injuries I have had. I started with Matt years ago as a FAT 50 year old who had never really worked out . I lost about 80 pounds my first year (Yea I was really FAT) and I am still keeping it off with workouts 3 x a week ,now I'm a fit 56 year old. All along my journey I learned so much from the team at Grit, all with their own uniqueness . I have continued to train through an arm surgery as well as a Neck fusion that I had needed for years, all as Matt made adjustments for my issues . Grit Fitness has definitely been a game changer for me. I started 3 months ago with Chris Sanchez, and the amount of changes I’ve seen in what I can overcome physically and mentally is definitely worth every penny.

Coming off a knee injury I was scared to start again but the personal trainers at Grit are extremely knowledgeable about what movements are safe and will correct your form. I have finally been able to workout without causing my knee any pain, which is a HUGE WIN for me. Not to mention in just my first month I lost 2% body fat and gained almost 4lbs of muscle!!

Chris takes time the first session to really listen to what your goals and expectations are. He then helps you understand the safest way to achieve those. After that he has you take an Inbody which includes (weight, percent body fat, skeletal muscle mass, and ECW/TBW) to see what your starting point is. Best part is seeing your progress every month. Chris creates personalized workout programs that you can access whenever you’d like whether it’s to see what you have as a next workout with him or if you want to do a workout on your own. The best part is every movement and exercise can be found in video form on the excel spreadsheet he sends you! The whole community at Grit is so welcoming and a judge free zone, it really makes working out stress free and fun.

I also know COVID has been a big factor in how a lot of people having been working out but rest assured the crew at Grit take every cleaning and sanitation precaution. They truly care about everyone’s well being.

If this hasn’t made you want to go workout there yet, there are always two of the friendliest dogs at the gym who love getting pets and playing. ( Don’t worry if you are afraid or can’t be around dogs they can be put away, they love naps too so they won’t be too upset).

When I first came to grit fitness and performance, I had been injured for years. Every joint in my body hurt. I was convinced there was something wrong with me and that I could never train in a weightlifting environment.

I was urged by my physical therapist to talk to Matt Emmons, the owner and trainer at Grit. I was skeptical, but when I met with Matt he was very confident he could create a plan to improve my strength while accommodating my injuries, despite the fact that I had never lifted weights in my life.

I almost didn’t believe him but I gave it a shot, and I am so so happy that I did.

Not only did Matt make this novice feel comfortable in the gym, he created a plan for me to build strength and improve the imbalances in my body. I was blown away by his knowledge and expertise. After only 6 months I felt like a new person. My joint pain was gone and my quality of life was improved in every way.
