This is a wonderful gym. Lots of different types of people working out - it’s not full of intimidating characters. The gym is very big and generally I don’t need to wait long for a machine. The classes are great - Zumba on Saturday and Sundays are fantastic! And the daycare is fantastic, I love the ladies there and know my kids are in great hands!

I have been going to this gym since its inception. I love the place and its cleanliness. The only problem is that the lap pool is crowded most of the time. I think when it gets crowded, the swimmers should be allowed only 30 minutes maximum.

Extremely upset with personal training with Adrian Londono. Had several sessions with him, which I was really looking forward to. There were times I had to wait for him (10-15 minutes), which was no problem with me, but when I'm running a few minutes late (at most 5), he is so rude and unprofessional. Canceled my membership because of that

The gym closes 5pm on the weekends. The gym ownership decided to make covid hours the norm while keeping the premium price tag per month. Otherwise, it's a nice gym, with complimentary towels, sauna, steam room, lap pool, workout pool, jacuzzi, lots of unique mech weights and machines, free weights, two stories, turf area, but no racquetball or basketball courts. Some things feel outdated, but still useful. Showers are nice overall with complimentary soap but of course wear sandals. Blow dryers and tissues available. Swimsuit water extractor available. Men's locker room doesn't smell great, but I see the cleaning staff in there pretty often so it's not like they don't keep it clean. I think if Hackensack Meridian Fitness & Wellness had normal hours for a gym on the weekends (and closed at 10pm instead of 5pm) they would be 4.5 stars.

My review is solely on their swim lessons. We love this place and appreciate the lessons and the value so much. My son swam here for a while with coach Dylan and he was excellent with him. He’s a solid swimmer now. My daughter swims with coach Nicole, Sue and June and they are all just lovely with her. She’s learning a lot and improving. We’re very pleased with their program.

I wholeheartedly endorse this gym. I want to acknowledge my experience at this gym and the staff. Steve who runs the place is very approachable and does a very good of keeping things clean and repairs things quickly in the rare instance something is broken. The members are respectful and a pleasure to interact with if you choose to do so. The cleaning individuals deserve positive words as well because they do a good job keeping that place clean. I get along with the front staff and lifeguards, who are always very welcoming and a pleasure to see.

Update: Most of the issues outlined below have been resolved. The glaring issue continues to be cellphone use on the gym floor. We are not talking about people off to the side, messing with their music or sending a quick emergency text. I am referring to the grown adults who plop down on a weight bench/machine ( great when it's 1/2 bench presses or sometimes BOTH) and text like they are writing a novel. I can finish multiple sets and the SAME people will still be sitting there, hogging a machine for their 90.00 per month social time. Why bother being at the gym ? Sit at home and scroll away. It's absolutely infuriating, especially with seating areas on each support around the gym. Why haven't I told the desk ? Because they are also on their phones. Someone, preferably a large, intimidating human, needs to be walking around and reinforcing a "no texting" policy. On another note, the weights on the lat-pulldown closer to the massage area are alllll messed up. I felt like the Hulk until I realized that the either the stickers or weights were completely rearranged or taken out. Compare it to the other machine to see what I am referring to.

I really enjoy this gym. It is clean with lots of equipment and a beautiful pool. Here is my honest review.

Pros: Large with plenty of room for distancing . The disinfecting wipes are always full and there are rarely any issues with unclean equipment. The facility doesn't have that "dirty gym" odor. Machines are fixed quickly and are generally in good shape. The facility is wheelchair accessible with good trainers. They frequenly run safety drills with a rapid staff response . Unfortunately after a year here, I am on the verge of going somewhere else for the following reasons.

Cons: Everyone is plopped on the equipment and texting away. This is an issue in the free-weight area and in the rest of the gym. There are plenty of staff members around, but ZERO enforcement of the cellphone-equipment hogs. I watched a woman set up the squat rack, sit down, lean back and text away for 20 minutes straight. It is extremely frustrating. I absolutely love the pool. Unfortunately the cellphone issue extends there also. Parents are constantly taking videos of their children in lessons, while catching myself and others in bathing suits. I am NOT comfortable with this. Again, zero enforcement . The lifeguards are wearing sneakers and boots while working. This makes it nearly impossible to rescue someone quickly . They also do not enforce a "no street shoes policy" for parents who stomp across the deck without a care in the world. This incredibly unhygienic. A gym connected to hospital should be doing better. Perhaps an ankle height water spray at the entry/exit would solve the issue. The pool has been crowded, made worse by private lessons that take up an entire lane or even two. Can these lessons be condensed or moved to the actual children's pool?

The cafe in the lobby is excellent. However, the hours are odd and the grill is only open until 1pm. Not sure if Hackensack runs this or if it's an outside company.

I really want to stay with this place and expect better of the facility. PLEASE keep this place decent, enforce the rules and don't let it become a P. Fitness or YMCA.

I am only giving this a 2-star (and not 1-star) because the facilities are nice, relatively clean and the swimming pool well maintained and salt-based so chlorine won't eat up your skin and swimsuit.

However, there is a strange 30 day membership cancelation policy (nowhere to be found on their website) whereby if you decide to cancel your membership at any point in a month, they charge you for the next month. So, anytime you cancel, they always charge you an additional month even if you are not planning to use their facility for that month!

I have not experienced that sort of policy in any other fitness center. It seems to serve well the business model for the revenue or member retention numbers but it screws up the members by forcing them to pay an extra month even if not using the facility - which is simply crazy.

Disappointed.

EDIT: Response to their reply: The cancelation policy was not clearly communicated to me. The person who initiated my membership, Luis Ferrulli, knew right from the beginning that I needed to use the swimming pool till the end of February. He then asked me to put a note on my calendar and call him to cancel my membership at the end of February (so they can receive money for March!!!) Ridiculous. I asked him to send me my official cancelation report. He stated on that report that I am canceling for “medical reasons”, which is a lie but I assume this lie makes him look good to his boss (ie., "oh no, the reason members cancel is not my fault or the facility's .. but medical reasons").

Stay away from this poorly-run, customer-money-eating, not-caring business. Read the rest of the 2 star reviews below -

Went there this morning as a guest with a 1-day free pass and I was fully intending to join today if I liked the gym.

I have a chronic disease that affects my mobility and I walk with a cane. I brought along a friend to help me from fitness machine to fitness machine. After I filled out the forms, the front desk person handed me back my ID, and told me they had to take my picture. Okay. Fine.

And then he told me that they have to take my blood pressure. *Very excessive* for a 1-day guest pass, but I acquiesced and started to follow the front desk person (I will call him Person A). He said it was due to policy for Hackensack Meridian *fitness and wellness*. Okay. I was under the belief that the blood pressure machine was close to the front desk, because Person A said, "The machine is right there." He saw me limping along with my cane and just watched me. Didn't ask me if I needed help or anything of that nature. Even when I go to a bank, the employees are more helpful.

I kept on walking and I asked, "Where is the machine?" He said, "It's right over here." He led me to a hallway. I asked again for the machine. He pointed all the way to the back and said, "It's right there, in the back." I turned around to go back to the lobby because I'd never felt so disregarded.

Someone else (Person B) started talking to Person A about whatever it was happening with the situation, and Person B said they can actually bring the machine out to the front for me. Imagine that. But at that point, I'd already felt disregarded and decided to leave and go to another gym. I joined the next gym I went to. They were actually helpful and the process was simple.

When I visited a gym as a guest, I informed them at the entrance that I had surgery a year ago. I had spoken with my doctor the day before and got permission to go, and I told them I would only use the pool and look around to decide if I wanted to join. However, they made me fill out a form for 30 minutes with someone who claimed to be the manager. They said they needed to measure my blood pressure, and the result was very good.

But the manager’s behavior was extremely unpleasant. He said I couldn’t enter, even though I told him I would sign everything and take full responsibility. When I asked why this wasn’t mentioned at the entrance, he simply said, “I don’t want to let you in.” The manager was wearing a pink shirt — please don’t go there.

There are many classes BUT NON OF VALUE. The management doesn't care about anything. They take up space to get paid. Gym can operate without them and maybe the membership will go down. Teachers for classes arrive late and sometimes not at all. They don't respect the time of the member. Go somewhere else like I will also do.

Steve Lopez my name is Karim Aquil Sharif and I am a patient at the Hackensack Meridian Fitness & Wellness Center Ellen Ryan is my physical therapist.
I come in the front door between 6:30-7:00 am on Tuesdays and Thursday I been coming to this facility of excellence for about 4 year off and on.
It really bothered me that a new member would make such a unbelievable indictment against “Tamyra” I read the review and although I was present for the encounter this new member straight lied on your outstanding employee Tamyra.
I met this young lady for the first time in 2019 when her an other outstanding employee Nicky was working the front desk(who by the way now works in sales) they both help me through a very difficult time in my life, they were kind and very encouraging.
Tamyra knows just about every customer who come through that door and greets them most appropriately I frankly don’t believe that she would scream at a customer let alone be aggressive toward a customer.
I know most of your employees who are always so professional Emma, Joe, Gerri, Chaz, Chris.
Thank you for indulging your time is reading this review but I had to defend Tamyra she a a beautiful person as is the case with all you employees.

I have been coming here for more than 3 years. I generally like the facility since I saw them also trying to make the facility better by changing the shower head and so on.

I have two big things that they should improve.

1) They always shut down the swimming pool for 3 weeks during the summer, but they charge the full price of one month. They should reimburse or give us money back or discount for the period of July to August.

2) The water quality should be checked more thoroughly. I saw them pouring a lot of chemical power. Also, I had skin trouble occasionally. I noticed that the water was not salty too much right after they had the maintenance period, but I felt the water tasted too salty again after a couple of months. I am wondering if they put too many chemical things inside the water.

My friend and I have been taking our daughters to parent and me classes for over a year. I have consistently seen women in the locker room on FaceTime while others are changing. There are no staff to monitor and it has been uncomfortable for a while. My friend asked another woman in the locker room this past Saturday to point her camera away from her and her daughter which were both changing out of their bathing suits. The woman was not apologetic and defensive and Slammed the locker room door shut. My friend began to tell me what happened because I was blow drying my daughter’s hair and didn’t hear the conversation. As she’s telling me what happened, the woman comes back over screaming and cursing at her in front of our children. I attempted to intervene and the woman yelled at me to mind my business. We then asked to speak to the manager on duty at the front. The girl at the front said the manager is coming out to speak with us, no name nothing. My friend asked if it a male or female manger, it’s a male. The manager came out and we told him what happened and he said well, she’ll probably complain about both of you. Which was a weird response since we didn’t do anything wrong. We began to press him on what the policy is on recording and FaceTiming in the locker room since there are children getting changed. He said they would do a few laps and see if they can find the person and maybe have to alter her membership. He never told us his name nor did he ask for ours. It really felt like he didn’t want to deal with it we told him we didn’t feel safe now this person knows when we come there with our children. No response. It’s really unacceptable to have to be out in an uncomfortable situation and then staff not even care or be able to handle a compliant properly. I saw other people post on yelp about the same issue. So you are aware and do nothing! Not even a sign posted that there should be not recording or FaceTime in the locker room. There are plenty of spas and gyms that at least has signs posted. UNACCEPTABLE.

Overall, I like this place—it’s clean and offers plenty of activities. What I enjoy most are the personal trainers; they are well-educated, and my favorite is Andy Huang. However, I’m not a fan of the front desk service. While some staff members are friendly and welcoming, others can be rude and selective in their greetings. Some don’t even acknowledge guests, which I find unprofessional.

The temperature of the dry sauna is too low. The reason why you don't feel the heat even after an hour is because it's too low. It does not apply to the definition of dry sauna. If it's broken, I want you to repair it. I think it will be crowded because everyone needs to stay for a long time because of the low temperature. I want you to clean the shower room a little more frequently. Shampoos and body soaps smell like oil.

>>> PRIVACY WARNING - CAMERAS <<<

Pros:

Overall, the staff is mostly friendly, the equipment is nice, and the towel service is good. The areas are generally extra clean, and most rerack. Cellphone policy enforcement appears to be zero. There’s plenty of equipment, but it may get worse as 2025 begins, with many just monopolizing equipment, reducing availability for gym-goers due to rampant cellphone addiction.

Cons:

- There may be some with alternative lifestyle individuals who enjoy people-watching, looking for dates, and/or secretly photographing/recording with their cell phones almost nightly. I highly recommend watching out for those individuals almost daily, especially minutes before closing time. Those members' membership should be terminated for violating others' privacy/using their cell phone while others are changing in/out of clothing. Additionally, walking space as those individuals hanging out in the locker room are often sitting, taking up valuable tight space as others try to walk by.

- Bring your shampoo, as the provided one smells like a prank shampoo.

- Cellphone users monopolize equipment for extended periods while on social media or watching a movie.

- May not want to use the blow dryers because they’re frequently used inappropriately.

- Members with bags monopolize equipment for 30-60 minutes. Some even hang their coats on equipment. As winter weather ramps up, be careful of the trip hazard on both floors.

- Large windows during bright sun hours can be bliding/back burning to members. It'd be great if the staff would monitor and lower the shades without being prompted by members, to lower it during intense sunlight hours. Members are there to use the gym and don't want to interrupt their workout, to ask staff to perform typical staff responsibilities. Maybe wall mount remotes on the wall if too much work to ask staff to monitor the sun during sunny hours.

If the cellphone issue was resolved in the locker room, the gym would be 4-stars. If the cellphone/monopolizing equipment on the gym floor issue was also resolved, it'd be a 5-star gym. There's enough of a staff at all times free for enforcement to routinely walk around and address both issues without needing the issue to be reported by members.

Very clean but lacks a lot of essential equipment and a lot of their current machines are outdated. Only one machine for shoulders. One smith machine which is usually occupied by a female for the length of your stay. This gym needs to dump some of the old and get some new pieces and it would be 4/5 stars easily.

I have been a member for over 3 years. I have taken many classes and there are some that do stand out. Yoga Class with Kiersten is absolutely incredible and quite informative too. Patty who teaches Yoga on Saturday also has a beautiful and strong Practice. All these yoga teachers stand out.
Irwin who teaches Zumba with new choreography every few weeks. He teaches step at the right beats per minute for half hour but after that he increases it at a dangerous speed not thinking that most of his steppers are seniors. His classes would be perfect, if he would keep the proper speed for the step and used a microphone. Many places don’t offer the microphone to their instructors and the instructors have to scream… The kettlebell class taught by Raymond, a great class with powerful sets, excellent cuing and different options. I suggest that you warm up before class.
Liza teaches an all level belly dance class, great cuing and choreography.
There is also an Afro dance class with a drummer Gene and his beautiful wife Debra. Their choreography, drumming and dancing are to die for. The choreography changes all the time, the class is always fresh. Do try!
Low and High impact cardio class is a senior class taught by Joe, a great role model for seniors.
Pound by Sareen is very strong class with weighted sticks, don’t let the sticks fool you, it is powerful.
Seated strength with Rob is a perfect well balanced class using the chair (if you like) and strength training. Don’t be fooled the class is for all levels.
My suggestion are for instructors to use a microphone, warm up and cooldown for all classes, show or cue different options to class participants. Walk around the class and help the members in your classes. This is not about the instructors workout…it’s about your clientele.
When instructors are out sick, vacation etc. Please post a sub list or cancelled class list on your bulletin board or send a message as you have done some times, through your App. It would be quite helpful. It would also be nice to post in the app your special events.
Their cardio equipment is up to date and once a year they bring in new equipment. But there are a few pieces that do need to be changed… The trainers who are not training should walk around the floor and help the members. Another problem the Gym has is that some member sit on the equipment texting and other members have to wait. The staff should point this out to members who don’t have the Gym etiquette.
There is also baby sitting for kids and swimming. There is instruction for swimming for all ages.
There is also a Pilates studio.
When one first joins will bet free evaluation the first time plus every 4-5 weeks, 1/2 hour free pilates and 1/2 free swimming.

decent gym however - super disappointing cancellation policy, wife and i signed up to try for a about a month in September, and unfortunately the gym was more out of way than expected distance wise. I tried canceling in October and I am paying for the gym apparently until December unless i have a doctor's note or am moving 25 miles away. Seems I miss their 30-day cancellation window by 6 days, I get it's in the contract, but I feel its unfair to force someone who is trying to cancel their membership to commit to another 7 weeks of membership.

If you pay a man to dig a hole and a different man to fill it…that’s called GDP.

Why do I have to go to THREE different check-in/registration desks for one simple health scan…soon people will realize that they have no purpose in life.

I don’t see how you can be happy and satisfied with your life if everything you do and work for is pointless because someone higher up doesn’t know how to be more productive and efficient in their business that they can’t have TWO or even ONE desk…does anyone even think anymore?

I’m a member of this gym. I don’t even know where to start. I came home from a hard day at work and suggested that we take our kids to play in the pool. It was supposed to be our first time.
We got floaters we brought them to the pool and our kids were super excited and guess what they only allow kids to swim and have fun on Sunday. We asked politely to let us just hang out a little bit in the hot tub and regular pool, but 3 guys like bouncers appeared and started saying that there are RULES RULES RULES. I know there can be rules but when you little kids wanted to splish and splash 💦 and was so excited to just hang out and have fun with their parents. There was no reason why they wouldn’t let us use the hot tub.
I want to directly speak with the person who created this rule and see why this is the rule and why guys at the pool was so aggressive and made us feel like we are trying to commit a murder.
My son threw a tantrum and it took us 2 hours to calm him down.
One of the worst experiences we have experienced in any pool or gym we have ever been. Maybe I’m little bit overreacting but I am a father and I love mg kids

After reading some of the negative reviews, I was hesitant at first to sign up. Fortunately, after several months since signing up, I have no complaints. The gym is exactly what they they advertise: weights, pool, clean equipment, etc. One positive aspect I think is that most people aren't tik-toking and sitting on the equipment. Professionals going in, getting their work out, and leaving. I cannot comment on the instructional classes, since I have not attended those yet.

The front desk was friendly. The gym and the pool are decent. I like that they provide warm towels. You need to bring your own lock though.

We went again at the weekend and called beforehand to make sure the counselors were there. After we got there we were told that a counselor would be available soon. The front desk lady this time was much less friendly. We waited for half an hour but no one came to help us so we left. Eventually we decided to join the membership in a different facility.

I had to visit my home country for 3 months (originally) in 2023 so I paid to put my membership on freeze. I ended up having to stay for a longer time (to stay with my grandmother) so I cancelled my membership.

I knew they were going to charge me for another month despite the freeze, so I had called them to ask if they could give me a few vouchers / entry passes for use for when I get back to New Jersey -- so at least the last month payment wouldn't go to waste. The front desk employees flat out refused and was quite rude. It was very disappointing -- their fees are already expensive and they don't care about you once they get your money. My sister left a few months earlier than me, I wish I did the same. I regret paying $600 for their one-on-one training sessions too. They're just hungry for your money here. Run elsewhere.

Will not be recommending this gym to any of my family and friends anymore. Have been going to a different local gym with my husbans and brother. Way better staff and are more accommodating.

EDIT; RESPONSE TO THEIR ""RESPONSE"
It took Hackensack Fitness & Wellness over three months to respond to my review with a very empty and USELESS statement. I have stated that I KNOW THERE IS A FINAL BILL AND I UNDERSTAND IT. My issue is with them not even giving me a little request of a couple of vouchers to use for when I get back to the country, because I will not be able to make use of the final month that I am being charged with. DESPITE THE HIGH FEES FROM THIS GYM , THEIR STAFF HAS 0 CARE AND REGARD FOR CLIENTS -- once they take your money, you are NOTHING TO THEM. MANAGEMENT HAS FAILED TO UNDERSTAND THIS REVIEW AND RESPONDS WITHOUT ANY PROPER THOUGHT.

Love this place. An aqua aerobics instructor named Phil is fun and gives a great, hard class. I'm a certified aqua instructor and I appreciate a really good workout. I met Phil years ago when I took a class at a different gym and then he has subbed for me at New York sports club when I was on vacation years ago. I was so happy to see his name on the schedule when I signed up for this gym. All of the classes are fun at this place.🏋️‍♂️ Zumba is great too. Just started taking Elizabeth Algaba's class in water aerobics. It is so much fun. I worked with her as well at New York sports club when I was an instructor back in 2020 when they closed in New Jersey. She makes the class a lot of fun and I get a really hard workout, yet low impact which I like.

The membership is 2 - 3 times the membership of other clubs in the area, even other clubs with a pool. This club does maintain the pool, but at a cost of being closed to members for even two weeks at a time.
I had to cancel my membership due to family reasons. I did so two days after the billing cycle.
The charge that was set to come out of my account 28 days later apparently could not be stopped. I don't understand why not, so I was billed for one more month.
Very poor business practice.
Also, the pool was often closed for swim meets leaving members without a pool. This club has only 16 lanes open for lap swimming at most. The center has group swim lessons and individual swim classes competing with pool time for members, forcing members to wait for a lane.
This center needs to decide it's priorities, members or $

I recently joined, and so far, my experience has been good. The sign-up process was easy and great with Nick. The staff is friendly, and the place is clean. There are amenities like a pool, sauna, steam room with showers, and two floors with a long track on the top floor. Additionally, there are three or four studios available. They offer free towels, and there is lotion, shampoo, and conditioner in the locker room. The cleaning lady is very nice; I lost my earbuds holder, and she found it and kept it, which was very sweet of her because I thought I had lost them. However, I wish there was a little more lighting in the sauna and steam room so I could see where I was walking. It's a very big and spacious gym that belongs to Hackensack Meridian. Surprisingly, they do not have a smoothie bar, and the restaurant is closed. Nevertheless, they offer a lot of classes, and there's an app with rewards, which is nice. I do wish they had more amenities in the women's locker room, like sanitary items, combs, hair ties, and body freshener; it would be a nice addition. Otherwise, it's a nice place. I heard that there used to be an in-house chiropractor, which is no longer there. This would have been a great additional perk since many of us could use this service. ;)

Further update:

Virtual live classes have plenty of room for improvement: sound is hit or miss, sometimes the video feed cuts out or the instructor forgets to turn the sound on; the moves tend to be demonstrated toward the in-person class, not the camera. The virtual participants are but an afterthought for the instructors with few exceptions. Don't bother calling the gym for help, they never know and rarely care.

Update after using gym for several months:

Group classes generally good, all are welcome; last times I was there the sanitizing wipe stations were gone, equipment grimy. Weight machines mostly in order, women using them are mostly to barely tolerated. Management is fine with all of the above shortcomings; cares primarily that you not get any money back and that facility functions in a way that you don't want to quit right away.

Front desk exists to make sure you swipe your card and as place for staff to socialize. Don't expect them to greet you or have any useful information whatsoever nor the wherewithal and care required to look up anything a member may need to know in order to use the membership they're paying for.

Pervious review:

First time using this gym. Clean, many machines, in working order. Plenty of parking. Bring your own towel and lock. Customer service has ample room for improvement. Staff behind front desk was assisting 1 person while other 2 staff members observed said assistance and completely ignored the other customers. No one knew where to find the form they want you to complete, so they make you wait way too long. It's almost as if they don't care whether you decide to become a member or not. You can't use the pool with a complimentary day pass or find out much about it unless you become a member. The pool doesn't return calls.

Generally speaking, there is a lot to like in this huge facility. The aquatic center is among the best I’ve used. The whirlpool is perfect. The saltwater pool is tops despite the lap pool being kept at 82 degrees (their assessment). For me and others I’ve spoken to it’s a bit too chilly for recreational/fitness swimmers. Although good for the hot dog competition swimmers. But you get used to it after the first few minutes of swimming hard. I can’t comment on the landwork facilities since I am there for the swimming only. There are some locker room issues that become important when you work out multiple times per week. The water pressure in the showers is a mere trickle. When I mentioned this to management they insisted that in their opinion “the showers work,” indicating to me a take-it-or-leave-it attitude. Also, locker room is a bit dark. I need to use my phone’s light to see into my gym bag. At this monthly rate, and given the size of the facility, it would be very convenient to have overnight rental lockers available for those who have swimming gear, etc. Many gyms will require an additional rental fee which I think is reasonable.

The equipment is a bit outdated, but there are enough amenities, so it wasn't an issue until recently. I had to wait almost half an hour to use a station because some members are inconsiderate and would rather twiddle their fingers than work out. I brought this to the staff's attention, but absolutely no action was taken. The monthly dues are not cheap, and since there have been frequent instances where I had to wait more than half an hour to use a station, it's truly not worth it.

Was given a script for Aquatic Therapy after back surgery. I thought this would be a great place to go based on location and the name behind it. I was wrong. I went in for the initial evaluation which was great. After, they told me my insurance was not in network. Next, they told me I didn’t meet my deductible. Neither which was true. I called my insurance provider and they told me both things they told me were false. Everything was surely in network and I had long met my deductible prior to coming in. Shady way to treat people just looking to recover from a serious injury.

Great gym well kept and usually not packed. Priced higher than most local gyms. Cancellation policy requires 30 notice. Could use more leg press machines as theres a wait to use it sometimes.
Changing review as I was previously told cancellation fee could be waived if Person is moving more than 20 miles away. Tried canceling account for moving out of country and gave one way plane tickets. They did not accept it. Then gave them a lease. They did not accept it. They would not take out of country identification as proof unless its newer than the gym account. This is a gym membership termination not an employment application. They are asking for more sensitive information then they should. They want the customer to explain personal life decisions with them and thats a failure in customer service. Will no longer be recommending this gym and current friends still using the gym will be made aware. Paid the last month and waiting for the account to be terminated.

This rating is for Paula C and those that don’t know how to do their job properly. I provided documentation to show that I moved more than 50 miles away from the facility and attempted to follow up with her for confirmation that she cancelled my membership appropriately. Not only did she fail to respond, but I subsequently received over a $200 bill without explanation. I called repeatedly to follow up and was notified it went to collections. Members beware !!! They don’t follow process and procedure. I have yet to have this resolved.

I been a member since last year. But I have a problem with the place. I am handicap ♿️ and I have noticed that in the bathrooms the toilets seats are to low, and in the "handicap" accessible toilet. The owners should invest on installing new high toilets for handicap clients as I noticed that a lot of elderly and handicap people go there for physical therapy as well to see drs. Otherwise the gym is clean and the section where the pools are located is always clean. Sometimes is too crowded with kids being given swimming lessons.

I really want to like this gym, but I am finding a hard time justifying the $90 monthly membership.
Most of the front desk staff have a severe attitude problem and are beyond rude. The staff in the offices are always on their phone; there’s just a very unprofessional vibe among the people who work there.
The equipment is okay, but for as massive of a space that the entire building occupies, the area with weights and machines feels very cramped. I am surprised at the lack of some of the machines as well.
The upstairs racks are usually hard to come by and are overrun by people who waste a significant amount of time on their phones or working exercises which could be done on the turf area.
The sauna, steam room and hot tub barely get warm enough to feel any effects, the pool rarely has open lanes, and the shower area in the men’s locker room is usually quite filthy.
I belonged to a comparable gym in the Seattle area, 425 Fitness, with similar amenities, but with much better equipment, space, and at a lower price of $76 a month.
There’s unfortunately few gyms in the Bergen area with similar amenities as HM, but considering the rude staff, poorly designed space, somewhat entitled crowd, and poor functioning of the amenities, I personally question the value of this gym.

But now that I’m back, I went to rejoin and I’ve been here for two months and it has become somewhat of a nursing home rehab. The classes are not geared to younger people anymore or able people. I have been a member here for several years. If it weren’t for the fact that I really love my trainer, I’d quit tomorrow.

The young girls who work at the front desk, especially on Saturday mornings, are the worse. They never acknowledge anyone who comes or leaves. When I was here on Sat, 1/28/23 around 8:30/9:00 am I had to say good morning at least 3 times before not being acknowledged at all. They’re too worried about being on their cell phones or gossiping with other staff members. I will no longer be coming on Saturdays and pretty soon I won’t be coming back at all. Please hire a front desk manager whose only job is to manage this area. These are the 1st people to make an impression on customers coming through the door. I’d be embarrassed if they were my employees and they’d be disciplined and let go if they didn’t get their act together!!

I’ve been a member of this gym for about 5 years now and my experience has gotten tremendously worse in the past year. I’ve grown to love the facility and *certain* staff over the years but the way some front desk staff has been treating me is really making me want to cancel my membership. The 2 stars are for the facility, the cafe, and the trainers. The general operation of the gym and the management would get 0 stars.

First, the hours are horrible. They’ve increased our membership rate TWICE in 2022 but still have not extended their hours. At first this was okay for me since I always went in the afternoon but there were some days I’d want to go after work but couldn’t because they close so early.
Next, the guest policy is ridiculous. I understand they want to have more paying members but the membership rate is already so expensive and they’re making SO much revenue, allowing guests more would not hurt their revenue at all. Only being allowed a guest 3 times a year is ridiculous, you even have to get your guest pass APPROVED!
The last thing that made me lean more towards cancelling my membership was the fact that i’ve been told 2 different things about freezing my membership when asking in person vs asking on the phone. I was told by a nice front desk employee in person that I would be able to freeze my membership for up to 3 months at a time with a fee of $5. But now when I called in to do so, I was told I can only freeze 1 month at a time for $5. This was told to me by the same front desk employee that has been giving me issues for the past few months on different things. I told him that I’ve been able to freeze for a couple of months before since I’m away in college but he said I would need a doctor’s note to do so. I wish this employee would be nicer to members, especially those who have been with the gym longer than he’s been an employee.

I’m truly disappointed in how this gym has been run. I might be cancelling my membership when I’m back from school.

I do not recommend this gym if you anticipate on bringing your babies or toddlers. I took my 4 month old and after only 2 days he got hand foot and mouth disease. I observed lots of runny noses, coughing and sneezing. After I picked him up at 12 I didn’t see anyone stay to disinfect or clean, they just simply put their coats on and left. Maybe someone else comes in and cleans but I still lost trust for this gym and it’s childcare. At 4 months old and brought in a car seat he is not crawling on the floor and putting toys in his mouth. The other toddlers/babies must have been touching him/coughing or sneezing on him for him to get hand foot and mouth disease. This is a highly contagious sickness which spread throughout my family and my other children. Once again I do not recommend this gym if you need childcare also.

The only disappointing factors are the guest policy and the operating hours, especially the weekend hours. I almost didn't join because they are still on the covid modified hours, but I was told the hours would go back to normal when memberships pick up. When I called to inquire about temporary membership at the gym, I was directed to the Stephen H, the general manager. I had never met him and there was no chance of I ever joining the gym because I was only visiting the area. His sense of humility and professionalism surpassed my expectations.

My wife loves this gym because it’s more clean than any other gyms in our area and they have a good childcare room. However the hours of this gym on the weekends are not the best , both Saturday and Sunday at the gym closes at five . So there’s many times that she’s left wanting to go to the gym but can’t because we have two toddlers and either the child care center is closed because it’s only open till 12 or when she has a moment during the weekends the gym is closed. Again clean facility,it’s very pretty but the hours are not as accommodating as other gyms especially, not for 80 a month.

It's a good gym. I COULD be a great gym with a few relatively minor fixes.
o- Some of the workout equipment has seen better days and the vinyl / pleather seats are beginning to show signs of cracking, they need recovering.
o- The addition of versaclimbers would be a wonderful thing - they should put in a row of them as once people realize what a good whole body workout they are, I suspect they'll be swarmed.
o- A cold dip pool by the whirlpool would be a serious enhancement.
o- Handheld shower heads would be helpful and make showering off not an exercise in contortion.

The training pool is a wonderful thing.
Shutting down the whirlpool in the middle of the day to empty and clean it is a bad plan, unless there was some incident that requires it -- it shouldn't be done during business hours for a routine cleaning.
The hallway between the lockers and the pool is too cold when coming back wet to get in the sauna / steamroom / showers / change clothes.
The air blowing in the pool area can be bone-chilling when getting out of the training pool, or the whirlpool -- less direct airflow might help with that.... perhaps aim the air in a way that it's not directly hitting people.

It's a very good gym, not perfect, but very good. The well-heated training pool takes it several notches up from the other gyms I've checked out in the area.

No, ok so you can’t go in with him!” (with a whole attitude) like lady I just got here there’s no need for an attitude so I said “ok, that’s fine, I didn’t ask to go in with him” .. I have never had any issues with waiting for use of any of the work out machines or weights. The gym members pleasant and friendly. I have however noticed a decline in cleanliness of the establishment. I also do have issues with WiFi as well.

Clean facility for the most part, nice salt water pools ! A bit pricey. Group fitness classes are EVERYTHING in this gym!!! They offer so many; Alex has the best boxing class on Wednesdays at 730pm; she will motivate you and make you sweat , honestly
Wish she had another boxing class!! Robert also has an amazing Muay Thai kickboxing class thursdays at 730 and saturdays at 11am, very focused and professional group fitness trainer. Only thing gym is missing is a tire so we can flip it (most gyms have them), some new jump ropes and a hamstring curl machine where you can lay in a prone position. Also there’s only one decent leg press machine and that’s not great because it’s always being used. Overall 3.5-4 stars due to how expensive the gym is and not having some essential equipment, but fitness classes are great!

I went to this center for a joint replacement class. First off, there was not enough handicap parking. I use a cane and I had to walk very far to get to the door. Secondly. I had to walk down 3 long hallways to get to the classroom. No wheelchairs anywhere.
In the class itself there was not even a bottle of water for people. I thought it was in a difficult location if you are coming from the hospital.

Can spend half a day at this place! Fantastic gym, with top of the line equipment, upstairs sports training area with turf + kettlebells. The salt water pool, and dry/wet saunas are my favorite!

Signed up less than a month ago. This place is amazing! You get many perks with your membership: nurse, trainer, jacuzzi, pool, classes, and so much more!
I am already down with 6lb since I started and try to work out almost every day.
If you are looking for a place that offers everything, and I do mean everything, this is it!
Sign up and don't even think twice!
BUT, don't forget that you need to push yourself to go there and work out. The rest will come by itself 😉
Thank you, Gabriella for being such a nice guide in finding the right membership for me!💪

This review is concerning the swim classes at The Aquatic Center. I purchased a 8 lesson package. First of all, they don't allow intermediate swimmers to use the pool even 5 mins before or after the class unlike town recreation centers. I was not informed this when i signed up. Also, my son missed 2 classes and there was no effort to get him substitute classes for the missed ones. There is no communication whatsoever once they have the money and answers are not satisfactory. Please stay away if thinking of group lessons for an intermediate swimmer. The group lesson and the shared pool is good for babies or beginners but not for someone who is advanced and wants to advance more in swimming.

The best gym in the area. I have gone here on and off since it first opened, and I LOVE everything about it. The cardio floor is massive, and the machines are new and exceptionally clean. There are ample weight machines, as well as a nice sized area for stretching and free weights. The weight-lifting section is on an upper loft area which I liked. There are several studios for classes, and I've found the instructors to be much better than you find at an average gym. There's a large and very clean lap pool, and unlike most gyms there's a separate pool for children's lessons. There's also a hot tub, and the locker rooms are beautiful. Clean and unlimited towels. Excellent in every way.

This is a really good gym, staff are very courteous, it is very clean. It is a little bit large and anonymous like the other franchise gyms. It used to be LOUD because of the deadweights being dropped in a loft above, but that seems to have improved over time. It is more expensive than many gyms. On the plus side it is not that crowded and has a great pool. The trainers and other staff are very courteous. They sent out emails once when they had an unexpected pool closure.

I had the misfortune of getting physical therapy , specifically, Aqua-therapy, at this facility. Although I had excellent orthopedic care at the Hackensack Hospital, and wrote a 5-star review to that effect, the fitness center bearing their name is hardly of the same caliber. The “care” I received was a joke and mainly consisted of a young, indifferent “therapist” whose “therapy” amounted to sending me to the other end of the pool to do exercises on my own, something I could have easily done in any swimming pool. The young women then proceeded to talk with each other about their boyfriends and weekend plans, ignoring me completely for the entire 30-minutes. I thought it might be an isolated incident but I found the same treatment each time I showed up. For each “professional” session , they charged my insurance company $500, of which I had a co-pay. This place is a complete ripoff. And people wonder why healthcare is so expensive in this country.

I’ve been working with a personal trainer at HUMC Fitness & Wellness for almost 3 months now and Garo, my trainer,is fabulous! He’s so motivating and incredibly knowledgeable. I’m getting to a place physically that I never thought I could achieve , feel great, and I look forward to each training session more and more each time. The gym itself is huge , has state of the art equipment and I’ve only just scratched the surface of all they offer. Tons of classes with yoga for all levels, Pilates Reformer and Pilates Mat, Bar, Ring, cardio classes, stretch ability classes, assort. dance classes, and lots more to choose from. Meditation and Tai Chi classes, athletic training plus a huge 8 lane lap pool, a therapy pool for water aquatics classes like yoga and Poolates. Also, an in ground hot tub is awesome -feels great and a good size-not crowded. The whole aquatic center is unique. Nothing like it around this area. Studios for classes, cycling studio, Les Mills classes, and so many more classes every month. Super friendly staff and membership includes a continuous evaluation by a trainer every 6-8 weeks for as long as you’re a member as a free benefit regardless if you’re working with a personal trainer or not to track your progress. Also included in your membership is a continuous every 3-month evaluation by staff nurses to track your health, weight, blood pressure, BMI, your measurements, etc. You’ll know your muscle:fat ratio in total as well as by each body part. See your progress throughout your entire membership as another included benefit as long as you’re a member. Huge partially carpeted locker rooms with steam shower, dry sauna, lots of showers, tons of dark wood lockers, big vanity areas, and all the towels you need. Very clean and well maintained. A spa is on sight as well for all types of massages, reflexology, and facials for an additional fee but discounted if you’re a gym member. And there’s “Sal’s,” a cafe-style eatery with lots of healthy options. Smoothies too. That’s the “Fitness” part of the facility. Check out the “Wellness” part as well offering acupuncture, physical and aquatic therapy prescribed by your doctor, counseling, mammograms;, cardiac rehab, cancer wellness program including yoga sessions, and so much moire. You never want to leave!

The gym started off great. Not anymore. I am a member since it opened. However, all they care about is money. Once you join they treat you like garbage. When I asked to extend a freeze for a medical reason customer service says I need to bring a doctors note. I said what if i was leaving the country and had to freeze, they said we need proof of airline tickets and destination. Are you kidding me. This is a gym, not my employer. People in customer service should know just that, CUSTOMER SERVICE.
They need to know how to speak with the members. I guess they are trained by people who don’t know how to speak to clients.
I also saw worms crawling around in the showers. Very unsanitary and non disinfected facility. Don’t join here.

Not a gym for someone who likes group fitness classes! Class is seldom start on time, and the schedule constantly changes (sometimes unannounced) making workouts inconsistent. On several occasions instructors never showed up. When concerns were voiced staff blatantly ignored the inquiry- giving the impression their large corporation was too aloof to care about their members.

It was also a living hell trying to cancel the membership, I ended up paying for about 3 extra months because every time I canceled I would still get charged and when I’d call to rectify it, no manager was ”available.”

Join with caution

Everything is good except :
-there are small towels for exercise and big ones for shower, but people are not suppose to use bath towels for yoga or on exercise floor. The management doesn’t enforce this rule. Also:
- Also the management lets kids parents in a pool in dirty street boots, shoes, especially when it’s raining or snowing. It gets in a pool inadvertently because of narrow and inclined tiled strip around the pool. In all YMCAs pool area is separated from visitors. Something should be done about it

Have been a member here since it first opened . It was supposed to be a first class place . But like every other gym it succumbed to the lure of more members and more money . The only real big sell is the three pool aquatic area . But this is constantly mobbed . Not only by two many members but by swim lessons for kids which were just supposed to be on weekend afternoons but now seem to be everyday. It basically has become the YMCA . For $80 a month we deserve better . If you just want to lift weights you can go to blink for $15 a month . I am very disillusioned and waiting for a competitor to open .

This is my 4th year training at the Wellness Center....it is always kept clean, has many options available for working out between machines, TRX, Keiser and classes. But what keeps me coming back is my incredible trainer, Chris H!!! He motivates me and crafts workouts that are customized to what works for me. He takes his responsibility seriously and I am a happier, stronger and healthier person for it! I recommend training with him!! He listens and responds to create the perfect workout!! Thank you Chris H!!!!

I've been coming to this gym for over a year now, mostly because my fiance goes there. The women's showers are almost always decorated with hair other miscellaneous things people leave behind and ever so often if you look up at the ceiling theres mold/mildew. I know the gym van wash the shower after ever person but they don't give us goers the opportunity to rinse the shower off either because there's only one shower head with no hand held shower arm. Another major problem is the hair dryers they supply for the women's locker room, very poor quality, i have shoulder length hair and it takes me almost 10-15 minutes just to blow dry my hair. I've seen other women bring their own dryers but i feel like that's just unreasonable when im paying for a full service gym. The gym itself is nice but since ive joined it has grown in new members and there's not enough equipment at times, such as benches, ab bench, leg machines, etc. Large gym area but poorly laid out. We stay with this gym as its close to work and home and is reasonable priced.

Gym is very clean. Between 4-7 pm the gym is packed. A lot of kids classes on the turf upstairs and in the pool. For 60 bucks a month, they really need some more weight machines. Retro has more machines then this gym. If you go to the gym from 11am-3pm, the gym is empty and very nice. Also, every snow storm they close which is pretty annoying.
