I am sharing this experience so other parents can make informed decisions before enrolling their child here. My daughter attended this gymnastics facility for several years and showed up ready to work hard and improve. Over time, however, it became clear that the environment was defined by poor communication, dismissive attitudes, and inconsistent professionalism. What should have been a supportive space for growth became a source of unnecessary stress and frustration.

Communication was one of the biggest issues. Emails routinely went unanswered, and important details about competitions, events, or payments were not shared unless I reached out repeatedly. I often had to chase down basic information that any organized program should communicate proactively. When I finally received responses, they were often curt or unprofessional. After I respectfully asked why my daughter was not advancing like her peers, I was told she “lacks maturity and focus” and that I should not compare her to others with “more natural ability.” This type of language toward a paying parent and a dedicated child is unacceptable. Constructive coaching builds confidence—this kind of response tears it down.

The way my daughter was treated compared to others was also concerning. During a short snack break, a coach pulled her aside and made her sit alone because she was supposedly “the loudest,” even though all the kids were talking and laughing. When I raised the issue, management defended the action by stating that they were “constantly separating [her] and other teammates” because she “understands how easily it is to distract her teammates.” That explanation only reinforced the problem—it showed zero accountability and a complete lack of emotional awareness. Singling out one child in front of peers over something so minor is not discipline; it is humiliation.

When I followed up hoping for an open conversation, I was told that “if she does not begin to mature and understand the importance of working effectively in a group… then this environment will not be good for her.” Instead of showing leadership or empathy, the response blamed the child while avoiding any responsibility for how staff members handle children.

The financial side was no better. I was explicitly told in writing that my daughter should “stop attending immediately” and that there was “no need to finish the month.” Despite that, the gym still processed and cashed my check for an upcoming invitational meet afterward—without warning, clarification, or refund. Taking a family’s money after dismissing their child from the program is not just unprofessional—it is unethical.

I made every effort to communicate respectfully, express appreciation for the staff, and find solutions. Instead of cooperation, I was told that “a new atmosphere might be the best for her.” In other words, rather than working with a parent who asked reasonable questions, they decided it was easier to remove the child. That speaks volumes about how this gym handles accountability and values its athletes.

Parents deserve transparency, respect, and basic communication when trusting a business with their child’s growth. If you choose to enroll here, document every email and every payment. Ask specific questions about how they communicate progress, handle feedback, and manage billing. In my experience, this facility lacks professionalism, empathy, and fairness—three things every child-centered program should prioritize.

Beware before you pay your monthly fees. They charged me for 4 Thursdays this month of November even though they are not offering any class on Thanksgiving Thursday. And now they forcing you to do makeup for Thanksgiving Thursday. First of all why they charging upfront for the days of public holiday when they keeping it close.
Mrs Henderson gave me an excuse comparing public holiday closure with snowstorm closure.
I requested refund for the class which was purposely canceled by the owner after customer paid and Mrs Henderson denied stating this is her regular practice charging parents for the public holiday classes and forcefully make parent to arrange for makeup.
Hopefully NJ consumer affair take some action on it and other parents won’t need to pay extra money for the day they keeping it close.

The staff is great and the coaches are patient. Just wish they would knock the wall down separating the parents from the workout floor and put bleachers. They have small windows hardly any place to sit for the parents and the tv blaring with news. Some parents show up and don’t even pay attention to their kids, I however do want to see what mine is doing.

I attended Henderson's from the time I was three years old, up until I turned fifteen. I competed for many years and enjoyed every minute of it. I wouldn't have accomplished as much, had it not been for the coaches there and my teammates.

Henderson's Gymnastics is a refreshing and positive environment for both the gymnast and the parents. The owners, Mark and Annmarie along with their office manager, Marie make your experience a personal one, you are not just another number here! The coaches and staff display patience and confidence in order to show the children the discipline necessary to excel. If you are looking to make a positive change or are new to the sport, I would highly recommend Henderson's Gymnastics!

From mommy and me classes until I was a high school graduate, Henderson’s was nothing short of incredible. Everyone was positive, supportive, and motivating. I was able to achieve level 10 status by the time I graduated, and I would not been able to get there without the coaches, team, and staff of Henderson’s.

My daughter has been getting her gymnastics training at Henderson’s for the past 8 yrs now. It is obvious that this gym is a big part of our life and there has not been a single day or moment that we would regret about choosing this gymnastics club. The front desk and the staff cooperate to their best capacity. Now my older daughter is in the team for more than 5 years. She spends 13 hours a week at the gym getting trained by an amazing team of coaches. I started my younger one too last year in the recreational classes and those coaches are excellent too. I have observed and experienced all these years that Mr and Mrs Henderson make every effort to make the gym and the facilities more and more better.
Glad to be a part of this gym. Thank you Hendersons.

My daughter loves going to gymnastics at Henderson’s ! We have tried other gyms in the area and they are over crowded mayhem. Doesn’t even compare to Henderson’s. The coaches are great and the owners have been doing this for years and are fantastic !!

My daughter Samantha had her 3rd birthday party at Henderson's and that was all it took - she was bitten by the gymnastic bug staying at Henderson's until she graduated high school. She learned much more than gymnastics there - self discipline, a strong work ethic and the courage to believe in herself. It's not easy and always roses at Henderson's but they honestly care for the kids and will never put them in harm's way. I couldn't want more than that.

Family run business with a thoughtful, hands on approach. Our daughter attended a special summer gymnastics program and enjoyed it immensely. Coaches were of a high caliber and able to identify with each gymnast and up skill appropriately and safely given their level of experience. We would attend again in a heart beat. Highly recommend.

I came here for a trial class here to see what it was like. I paid for it in advance. They canceled the trial class without telling us. The worst part is that we had to have a dispute in order to get our money back, which is what we deserved in the first place, because we already paid for something that didn’t even happen. They didn’t apologize for their mistake either.

My kids were enrolled for 4 months in the Parent and Tot class and 4/5 y.o. class. Although I found the owner to be patient with the kids, I did not feel that the other teachers were very good at interacting with the children. One of the male teachers filling in for the Parent/Tot class flipped my child over the bar without waiting for her to grab on. She was scared of the bar (and him) the rest of the class. I've seen a teacher inappropriately yank a child's arm in order to get him to listen, and another teacher shame a 4 yo for not listening even though she was already scolded by that same teacher and the girl's mom. Also, I know my kids were in the beginner's classes, but I rarely saw skill building on the bar or tramp (for example) ... and if I did, the kids were rushed along and not shown proper form. We enjoyed our time while we were there, but I did not care for the teachers at all.
