J-train is the most unique gym, it's small enough that you don't have to work out with crowds of people but it's large enough to give you all the space and equipment you need. I'm training with Max and he's great. He understands my current issues and how to help me improve, and his approach is both creative and very challenging.

I started training with Jay in June 2025 with the goal of body recomposition and learning how to strength train properly. In just a few months, I already feel stronger and more confident in the gym. Jay has a great way of pushing me outside my comfort zone — getting me to try exercises and lift weights I never would have attempted on my own. His coaching is encouraging, motivating, and tailored to my goals. The studio has an energetic, supportive vibe that makes every session something I look forward to. If you want to build strength, learn proper technique, and actually enjoy the process, I can’t recommend Jay and his studio enough.

I have had two babies via C section within a year and two weeks so my body has been wrecked and J has been phenomenal in helping me pull myself back into shape. He has me doing exercises I would never do on my own and holds you accountable without being pushy. Also with doing all new exercises, if I don't know how to do something correctly, J is very patient, not intimidating, and takes the time to explain and show you the correct way to do things. 10/10!

Highly recommend going to Jtrain! I started when I found out I was pregnant because I wanted to make sure I was working out safely. Josh has made me feel super comfortable and helps with modifications throughout the workouts. Sessions are fun and go by super fast. It’s a great studio with very professional and knowledgeable trainers. If you live in Hoboken and are looking to start with a personal trainer, look no further!

I have a very severe hip issue that I have had since birth but wasn't properly diagnosed until I was 35 years old. I hadn't been exercising regularly at all due to discomfort, and walked into J-train admittedly a little apprehensive. I've been training there for 3 months now, going ~2 times per week, and it has been the best thing I've ever done for myself. I work mostly with Jay, and have also had a few sessions with Max to work specifically on hip mobility - both are amazing. Even if you don't work directly with someone on the team, everyone there is so welcoming, it really makes the entire experience. It's clean and fun, not an intimidating environment at all, and you can tell everyone that works (and goes!) there loves being there too, which just adds to the positive experience. I would recommend that anybody, at any fitness level, should give them a call and you will be so glad that you did!

I love J-Train! The small studio feel is definitely something what I appreciate and what makes it unique. It’s a community that eventually becomes a family. Everybody is super knowledgeable and friendly, but obviously Rob is the best :) I have started training with him almost 1.5 years ago after my first pregnancy and am now training throughout my second pregnancy. Zero back pain at 33 weeks - whaaat?!?! Yes, it’s possible. Rob has years of experience and it shows! He keeps you motivated and the sessions are so much fun! 100% recommend!

J-train is a fun and positive workout environment. Gyms can be intimidating, however at J-train you feel like you can workout in a judgement free space. The entire training team makes you feel at ease, and you can tell they all enjoy being there. Working with Rob has been the best experience I’ve had out of any gym or workout class I’ve been a part of. Rob has years of training knowledge and makes sure you know you’re in a safe and encouraging space. Waking up and getting to a 7am training session is not easy, but Rob makes you want to keep coming back. Since working with Rob, I feel significantly stronger, which has made everyday activities less challenging. Simple things like lifting heavy items, that used to be a struggle, are now just normal life. I have never been someone who looks forward to working out. However, after working with Rob I am excited for my training sessions. J-train offers a welcoming community and Rob makes you feel like you are part of the family.

I have been training at J-Train for well over a year now, doing personal fitness workouts and yoga, both with Max Pena. Although Max is my personal trainer, I feel like all of the staff at J-Train are interested in the well-being and fitness of all clients. J-Train is friendly and welcoming, and one feels like a part of the family, but it's also hard work that pays off! I had worked out and done yoga with Max in the past and have always been greatly impressed by his attention to the whole self and on listening to one's mind and body while working out and in life. Like most people, neither my time nor my funds are limitless. At J-Train, every moment counts, and I leave after each training prepared to continue exercising on my own and practicing great life choices. Robert makes working out doable and fun. He’s innovative about keeping it fresh so it never feels like a chore. He’s also very knowledgeable and engaging and ALWAYS upbeat. He is so focused on his clients and very deliberate about making sure you’re challenged without injury. It’s a tough workout with positive results .
I’d recommend him highly to anyone looking to improve their physique and mobility.

I have been training with Rob since January. He is an educator, motivator. goal-focused, authentic, knowledgeable, passionate, and committed. Unfortunately, I am leaving at the end of May because I am moving to Tennessee. I wish I could bottle him up and take him with me. My only regret is that I did not start working out here when I originally called Jay in September 2021. Working out at J-Train has been the best investment and I hope to find a group of people half as good in TN as I did at J-train. They are all awesome. Worth every penny.

I have been working out with J Lally for 6+ years (I have been working with personal trainers for 12 years) and left the gym at which I was working out to follow him when he opened his own fitness studio. J-Train has all the equipment you could possibly need and then some. There is plenty of room to spread out. Sessions fit by because the trainers keep it fun, fresh, and entertaining. It is always clean and smells good. The trainers he’s brought aboard are top notch (I’ve worked out with almost every trainer there at some point) and I am getting great results from the time I spend with them because they motivate me and make it fun. The prices can’t be beat. I recommend this gym whole-heartedly.

I started training with J-Train a few weeks ago. So far have had a great experience. The approach to training appears to be very systematic, taking into account my objectives as well as specific challenges. Variety and intensity has been increasing progressively. There is a lot of focus on good form. Training is very balanced, including strength, stamina, flexibility and balance. My trainer Max is very supportive and encouraging. Also he recorded several videos for me to follow when I work out on my own.

Love working out at J-train and with Maximo! It’s a wonderful community and really pushed this new mama to get back to fitness after a year and a half postpartum and post pandemic. After a year with Maximo, I have lost 20lbs (thanks to healthy eating tips as well from Maximo) and feel stronger for my little toddler. Maximo’s workouts incorporates strength, mobility and stretch in unique and seamless ways to work for you. I’d absolutely recommend J-train for anyone no matter your level of fitness.

I started with J-Train roughly two months ago. When they asked me what my goal was, I told them I wanted to change my body composition and perhaps add some muscle. Fast forward — last weekend I had to get all new work shirts thanks to the results. Rene is a real professional, planning workouts focused on effective movements and hard sets, but always with an eye on safety (which is important for a guy in his 40s who has injured himself in the past). Starting with Rob helped me have more energy and strength to take care of my 18 month - 30 lb son. I was able to hold him up high, have fun thowing him up and down and enjoy moments I just couldnt have earlier becuase of lack of core strength, muscle mass and the confidence to enjoy my son the way I'd like to play with him, holding him up on my shoulders for long periods and in general having a good time as a dad. Rob is 'personal' - something one only relaizes when they've particpated in a training session with a person like Rob who is able to construct just the perfect workouts depending on my day/energy/and mindset. Can't say enough good things about my training experience at J-Train with Robert. I am a long time personal training client, recently relocated to Hoboken, and found Robert when I went looking for a personal training style gym. I know what a smart trainer does, and how I should feel during (and after) a session. Robert is a pro. Not a second is wasted: he listens to feedback and adjusts on the fly. He ignores whining ("it's not heavy, it's challenging. If it weren't you'd fire me.") and is always enthusiastic, upbeat and encouraging.
To work out at J-Train (and with Robert) you need two things: a sense of humor and a willingness to work hard. You'll look forward to the sessions and you'll achieve whatever goals you set with fitness professionals who are committed to your success.

My trainer is Ron Rhea, he’s fantastic. He’s committed to making sure you are working out efficiently and effectively. He makes sure you are positioned properly to do the exercise so you do not injure yourself and get the maximum results. He puts together a new program each session, 2-3 circuits of 3-4 exercises…including a warm up in the beginning and time for a stretch at the end of session. My strength and endurance have increased dramatically with Ron.

I started with J-Train about a month and a half ago. Rob has been amazing helping me with my fitness goals. The workout sessions are intense and fun at the same time. As intense as the workouts are I never walk out of there with any discomfort because all the muscles I worked are properly stretched and the theragun is applied where needed. The attention to details and personalization is what keeps me coming back. Although I don’t train with Jay he goes out of his way to catch up with me to see how I’m doing and make sure my fitness needs are met. I would absolutely recommend J-Train to anyone who is just getting started on their fitness journey, or normal workouts have become stale or is looking for a fun place to hangout for an hour (a lot of funny and interesting conversations).

Jay and the rest of the trainers are not only knowledgeable and professional, but they also have the BEST energy. I am extremely pleased with the knowledge, professionalism, and quality of the workouts @ J-Train Studio. After two kids and over a year without exercise, I was able to ease in back in to shape and build up strength with the help of my trainer, Rob.
Rob's workouts are CHALLENGING, FUN, and most importantly SAFE. One of my main concerns about working out was injuries, as I was still battling with knee injuries. Not only did Rob design workouts that took into account my bad knees, but also helped me target the area and build up strength to the point where I was able to completely recuperate movement and range of motion in my knees back to 100%.
As far as the studio goes, I can't say enough about the quality of their equipment and its cleanliness. The team works really hard to keep the space pristine!

I’ve had the pleasure of attending a weekly Saturday morning class (Movement Redefined)at this gym with Coach Dan Bando for the past several months. Through this I’ve come to have increased mobility and flexibility. Coach Dan breaks down each movement making them easy to understand and relatable. He watches the class to ensure we are doing each movement correctly and not putting ourselves in a position to get hurt. The in-person space is clean and well maintained.
