Being a gym rat, It was hard for me to listen to my doctor tell me I had to change the way I work out due to an autoimmune disease. I was looking for a gym that offered old school weight training along with cardio classes that were not all HIIT based. That’s when I found KING Cranford. The programming is challenging yet makes sense, the coaches motivating and educated. I’m so grateful for finding KING, and for the sense of community it offers. It’s easy to commit to 3-4 days a week, even at 6am!

I am so grateful I found King Strength! I always struggled with staying consistent with the gym and it wasn’t until I joined King that I found myself actually enjoying waking up for a 6am workout. Kings is not only a gym but a community. I joined after things started opening up after COVID. It’s now been three years and I still look forward to going to the gym.

The gym, program and trainers are great and always willing to answer your questions and correct your movements. Huge shout out to Mona and Abby who’ve been there since the beginning for me — looking out for me with not only my workouts but nutrition.

By going to the gym I was able to get to my fittest in 10 years. They also changed things up and were accommodating during my pregnancy (went till the day my water broke). Now I’m back again 3 months after having my baby. It feels good being back and connecting with everyone.

I joined group training sessions at King Strength and Performance more than a year ago, and it was the best decision I made for my physical and mental health. The gym offers structured programming that includes a good mix of dynamic stretches, weightlifting / body weight exercises, and cooldown sessions, as well as the opportunity to progressive overload each week. At home, I have a limited collection of dumbbells, but King Strength provides access to heavier dumbbells, kettlebells, plates, benches, and barbells. The trainers are welcoming, kind, helpful; they frequently check form, spot, provide modifications, and listen to concerns and questions. I walk away from every class feeling accomplished and proud of the work I put in. It’s definitely been a confidence booster!

For anyone who is looking for structure with their workouts, is tired of guesswork and the lack of consistency, and wants a comfortable environment for people of all ages, sizes, and genders, I highly recommend checking out King Strength and Performance.

This review has been a long time coming due to the fact that I can't even describe how good this gym is. For starters, this is the perfect gym for anyone who wants to start strength training. The owner and trainers are all extremely knowledgeable and all programming is science backed. The programming is straight to the point, no weird gimmicky workouts and it takes the thinking out of training for us. The community is welcoming and encouraging, this gym is a safe haven. I am not a people person nor do I like to be in groups but being a member of King has me surrounded by like minded people and in my opinion, has made me feel like a better version of myself. I am someone who fell off of my fitness due to the pandemic, and have had a hard time getting back to working out and being around people. King has made this transition so much easier for me. Started coming to this gym after a move. Trainers Rick and Abby didn’t hesitate to accommodate a new schedule and make sure we stayed committed to our goals. The community here is like no other with regulars attending classes consistently. Trainers Dom, Mona, Ashley, Eric, Rick and Abby are all extremely helpful and motivating. What a place!

This is not a gym. I repeat this is not a gym. This facility cultivates HEALTHY body functionality and muscle strength/repair. Coming out of ACL/meniscus surgery a year ago I never thought I’d be back to any pain free days or get my quad strength of my bad leg to equal my good one.

After almost three months of training with Rick O, I can confidently say I wish I knew about King prior to finishing out my last few months of physical therapy. I would have came to King; I have been able to visibly see my progress in a muscular and mental capacity as this would have motivated me much more.

King gave me my life back after such a crushing injury.

I've been coming to this gym since Nov 14th 2022. What started out as an interest in the aesthetics of the place, quickly changed after I met Rob. Not only was he very informative, he was very transparent with the way things worked around the gym as well as his personal passion and the desire to make others see the things that we sometimes don't see about ourselves.
Rob is no longer with the team, but i still continue to attend. The passion that the trainers have. The discipline that you start building up. The sense of community between clients. Everything just sets the bar for a well rounded, respectful, and driven environment.

I'm happy that i made the decision to sign up, and what started as a place that "looked cool" quickly became a home, and further than that, a community, a family.

It's definitely no $10 a month. The gym works class-based, meaning that you have to reserve your training time, but as you go you understand the benefit in having constant supervision and a trainer available in every single class.

Definitely recommend!

A year ago I truly didn't think there was a place for me at 48 yo that I would feel comfortable getting back into working out after a long time being absent from a gym setting. 

My husband started with King first & kept telling me how amazing it was, that I would love it, but of course it took me a while to get up the courage to start. I was intimidated & far out of a consistent workout routine, but of course he was absolutely correct.
 From the first time walking into the gym hesitant (& a bit scared to be honest) the trainers & members alike were welcoming (members are as amazing as the employees). There is so much genuine positivity & encouragement in the environment in this gym that I would give it 20 stars if I could. 
It took me a while to catch on to how to do things (still learning) but they take such care & attention to each member's needs, wants & even weak spots that need to be built up that I quickly felt comfortable asking for help or direction. Every trainer listens, assists & encourages without making you feel self conscious. They also lookout for any injuries that you have & they provide modifications for how to do something if it's too difficult at first, which really meant a lot to me since it had been so long for me in a gym & with several past injuries. 

It's been about a year later & after classes & semi private training I have gained strength, confidence & a real love for the workout programs along with the people at King. I can't single any trainer out because they're all stellar & unique in their own way, but with so much shared compassion & patience that it makes coming into the gym (in any location as they all have the same amazing vibe) a pleasure & I always feel welcome.

The trainers here are excellent! I've primarily taken Mona and Denise's classes at the Cranford location. As someone who's "done their own thing" for years, there's a different level of motivation when you're in a class setting.

I feel confident that I'm safely pushing myself - there's an emphasis on warm ups and maintaining form throughout the workout. Outside of getting stronger, I feel more balanced. I've learned a ton of new movements and stretches that have helped my range of motion. All credit to the expert staff here.

Lastly, there's great vibes all around. Everyone is looking to get better. It's a very welcoming environment! 1 month in and I couldn't be happier with my decision to join.

I was visiting the area from Arizona where I am a member of an amazing fitness studio so my standards were high. I did a lot of research before I decided to give King Strength and Performance a try. One of the pillars that separates my home studio from the rest is that it is more than a gym, it is a community. I got the same feeling at King Strength and Performance. Everyone from the members to the coaches were so welcoming and made me feel part of their community. The workouts are challenging but manageable. If you are fortunate enough to be near one of their locations, I highly recommend giving them a try. If you are a member of King Strength and Performance and happen to be in or near Gilbert, AZ and need a place to workout Funkfit/The Collective would make feel just as at home as you guys made me feel.

I’m so glad I found King! I had never done strength training before and was intimidated to try it out, but I knew that for injury prevention and bone strength, it was time for me to try something new. From the moment I walked into the Cranford gym, I was treated like part of a fun, extended family. In my evaluation, my trainer Abby listened carefully to my goals and concerns. After being a member of King for over 2+ years I can honestly say that joining this gym was one of the best decisions I ever made. At 43 years old I am stronger, leaner and healthier than at any point in my life. All the trainers are amazing and very knowledgeable. The workouts are great and can be adjusted for anyone. Great gym, people, instructors, and community! This review is more of an fyi of what to expect + some things to consider before joining, especially if you're a total noob to weightlifting, or if you have limited hours of availability.

1) Weightlifting noobs: If you've never used free weights for things like squats, deadlifts, bench press, or kettlebells, I highly recommend taking advantage of King's personal trainer sessions to learn the ropes. Or, at a bare minimum, read a book like Starting Strength to see exactly how to position your feet, back, hands, and shoulders for squats, etc. The instructors do a great job of answering questions and providing as much personal instruction as possible, especially when they see a new face (thanks Abby!), but there is no substitute for one-on-one sessions when you first start out. It will cost more upfront, but you'll create great habits and minimize chance of injury. The other issue for noobs is not knowing how much weight is too much. The instructors will give you a good idea, but if they're helping others, you might miss out on a good pointer or recommendation to lower the weight. Don't let your ego cause you to add an extra 10 pounds to the barbell if you're not sure. If you're not planning to do weightlifting, that's fine too, they have "Base" classes that don't include bench press, deadlifts, etc. Still a great workout.
2) Open hours. I knew what I was getting into, and for a group class gym the hours are very good. Just be sure your availability can accommodate the hours of operation. If you sometimes get out of work late, you might miss some days. Also, if weekends are best for you, consider that the gym is closed on Sundays. On Saturdays you'll need to wake up early. On weekdays the busiest classes (which sometimes fill up) are the 5:00-6:00am classes. I don't believe any other time slots are known to fill up.
3) "Open Gym" hours are limited. Makes sense, the program is geared towards group classes, as well as some private training, and it's not a massive gym. This was one thing I overlooked in my eagerness to join.
4) Take advantage of the one-week trial before committing to a whole year. Most likely you'll fall in love. The instructors are all amazing, and the classes are small enough that you can get to know people, including the instructors.

Ok, now that you've dotted your I's and crossed your T's, I highly recommend King Strength! Imo many people stop going to the gym because there is not much of a community. King's community feel will motivate you to keep coming back and get your money's worth. For anyone who has experience with group class gyms, I'm sure King is second to none. But if you're coming from a gym that's open til 10pm, has tons of cardio machines, and open gym all day, this gym is a bit different. I'd even recommend adding a secondary inexpensive gym like Planet Fitness or Blink if you know you want to keep up the treadmill or have some late nights or Sundays.

To get a feel for the community aspect just take a look at King's Instagram. They even have a holiday potluck party with food and a DJ. There must have been 100 people who showed up! The owners went above and beyond.

I can’t begin to say how happy I am to have found KING Strength and Fitness! I spent many years falling into the trap that most females do of incessant HIIT style training, low carbs and constantly watching the scale. It began to take a toll on me mentally and physically, I knew there had to be a better way, especially after hearing success stories from women using primary strength training to get in shape.
I appreciate how the programming at King encompasses science based training, with a focus on teaching you proper form, step by step. I love every nuance of it and I’m appreciating it more as each month goes by.
I’ve always had a fear of stepping into a big box gym, walking towards the weight training area and having no clue what to do other than a basic routine. After three months with King, I can say going to a big box gym and walking towards that dreaded area no longer gives me anxiety.

Each trainer at King walks you through every exercise step-by-step. Any question or concern you have, they are more than happy to take the time and walk you through everything individually.

Since starting semi-private training at King in November 2021 (so nearly 6 months now) I have been going three times a week, every week, without fail. I've been going to KING for close to 6 months and I absolutely love it. I never thought I’d be a person who enjoys working out early in the morning but it feels like second nature to me now. I've been consistently going 3 days a week, M/W/F and I've seen significant improvements in my strength, energy, and overall well-being. At KING, there is a different training block each month focused on developing strength and at the end of each quarter is KPI testing to see your growth. There are also other classes on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays focused on conditioning, KB techniques, mobility and arm farm – which everyone raves about but I have yet to try it!
In these last 6 months, I’ve seen significant growth in each of the major lifts. With that said, there is still a big focus on form and mobility. You are working at your specific level and building yourself from where you are so the classes work for individuals that are beginners to the more advanced. Classes are a collective experience – you’re working individually but you’re supporting one another in your growth and success. I’ve gotten to know so many amazing individuals at KING. Classes are taught by trainers and they are all absolutely amazing! All of the trainers I’ve had the opportunity to take a class with genuinely care and are invested in helping each member in their journey. Overall, I highly recommend giving this facility a try – it will be worth it!

The best part of everything is that I am able to bring my one year old son, when ever I don’t have some to take care of him. You can tell it is their passion to train and see progression in their clients. I started with some personal training classes back in September of 2020 to regain confidence, knowledge of strength training and most importantly to me, consistency. It's been a little challenge for me to stay consistent with a gym practice. Their hashtag #consistencyisKING has been so helpful! So if you do feel intimidated at first take some PT classes, you won't regret them. In addition to the PT classes, I started to join group classes in January and they are so much fun. The coaches at King are just that. They are coaches. They know each and everyone of their athletes (clients) and what they are capable of. As a woman, I feel empowered when I am here. I've never been made to feel like a girl but always like an athlete. They even communicate and celebrate you outside of the gym. I honestly feel like they truly care about me and the entire King community as a 2nd family.

The programming is specific and scientifically driven to produce results. It focuses on strength and performance just like the name says :) They preach consistency above all. And on top of it all, we have a fun and a good time there too!

Strength training at King has improved my performance as a triathlete. I've seen major improvements, specifically in my running, that I know comes from the work I was doing there. So if you've never lifted before and are a runner or a cyclist, I would still highly encourage trying it out!

All of the above! I’m no stranger to the gym, its trainers or equipment. For awhile I’ve had issues especially with my lower back that I’ve addressed for so long, but not much progress made. When I came across King’s Strength, I was open and honest about my issues. The trainers were able to clearly and concisely assess the root cause, and after attending their classes, and incorporating strength and mobility sessions, I’ve noticed much improvement! Over the years, I didn’t believe strength training was important for me, as I did a lot of HIIT and cardio. After a knee injury that changed a lot of things. I started private training with Rob and noticed the quality of my workouts change. Rob really has been working with me on my form, and is such a positive instructor and great teacher.

For someone who couldn’t do a push-up with good form, I’ve gotten VERY close to doing one with the best form I’ve ever had. I’m stronger than I’ve ever been and I’m now even working on pull ups.

I started working with the King Strength team virtually last summer during the pandemic - Tiff helped me get out of my isolated funk + anxiety and reminded me that working out can be fun with the right mindset and energy. I’ve also taken classes with Gerrick, Rob, Kacper and Sheryl this past year - their enthusiasm is always infectious and their patience to teach virtually is inspiring. Never felt that I was getting less of a workout or technique lesson/form adjustment just because I was only working out via Zoom. I joined King during COVID-19 and i am so grateful that I did! My experience from prospect to member was seamless. I reached out via Facebook and got a reply within minutes. I scheduled my evaluation that same day, joined, and took my first class. The environment is clean, and they follow COVID protocol and I never feel at risk.
I’ve been able to work out with all of the coaches and I know that every coach supports me and my goals, and can provide modifications when I need them.
Another amazing thing- a physical therapist at the gym. As an athlete, it’s really beneficial to have a physical therapist and strength and conditioning coaches that work together for optimal progress and results.

I move around a lot so I’ve had a good amount of trainers and gym memberships.. nothing really compares to the experience you get with Gerrick’s training. Workouts are always different which gets results much faster and it’s more exciting than some gyms who take you through variations of the same workout.

This gym has positively impacted my life in the following ways:

1. Coaches give good advice on lifts - preventing injury

Like most people, I used to go the gym knowing a few movements and cues (e.g. squat to below parallel). I would always get injured and didn't lift in optimally .

Here, I always get some new tip, and saw my injury rate decrease.
In house physical therapist to get your body right.

Its like having that jacked knowledgeable uncle you've never had lifting with you.

2. Safe lifting environment in Corona time

While gyms were too dangerous to operate during peak Covid, King adapted and had classes outside for a while. Same caution goes towards indoor classes. I feel safer here than with some of my actual friends.

3. Takes guesswork out of programming a lifting schedule.

You can research 100s of hours of your time into finding out how often to squat and what you should do for getting a big upper body, and probably fail OR you can let these guys take the guesswork/time out and give you an efficient way to get stronger and faster.

My background: 20 something weekend warrior who's formerly competed in powerlifting.

All the other stuff is nice (super friendly + KNOWLEDGEABLE coaches, InBody fat% calculator, great culture, cool merch, trendy location between lots of restaurants) but is something I personally don't care too much about. Maybe you will.

Anyways, I obviously recommend for the above reasons! Try it out.

The type of group training instructions they offer is quite unique as they really focus on functional performance. The workouts are incredibly smart and well thought out. I think following their training program for the last ~2 months, I’ve gained the most strength and mobility I can ever remember having. I really have to emphasize how smart the training is.

The culture is awesome and accommodating for people of all experience levels. The gym is insanely clean and they seem to take very active measures to keep it that way. My wife and I are going on about 6 consecutive weeks of 7 or 8am classes on Saturday morning and it’s the highlight of our week.

I moved to the area and looked for a gym that was above a standard generic gym. King S&P offers a staff that is friendly and very knowledgeable. I've been a member of several gyms/studios, as I like to do different types of workouts to change up my body. King Strength is like no other. I started off virtual in the middle of the Covid 19, and that is what convinced me.

They are legit virtual workouts, not someone just saying "go, lift higher, yes, great, you can do it". I LEGIT came out of those workouts sore. On top of that, I started going to outdoor workouts. And like I said, when my body is sore then I know the workouts are effective. The coaches and the members are so welcoming and they teach you technique, they are not just trying to conduct class, and "peace'ing out". Also, you get VARIETY. I can't even explain it, the workouts are programmed differently every month or so...

I suggest you give it a trial run, and let me know what you think. Trust me I am not an athlete, I am your average mom looking to get fit, get away from my kids and alleviate stress :) dm me if you have questions!

I have never felt more welcome by a gym. I have some health issues and most trainers don’t know where to start with me, eventually getting frustrated and giving up. Since joining King, Gerrick has never once given up on training me. There has never been a mumble or complaint, I’m in the family and that’s all that’s to it. My limitations are never even discussed, he modifies exercises and workout plan, and has never made a big deal of it. I’ve never felt more accepted or at home at another gym. King is for everyone, modifications are made without a blink and all the trainers are exceptional in helping guide you and teach the right techniques. My wife forced me to workout with her...and I'm glad she did. I completed my first session of #KSPHomebody tonight. It was tough for me, because I haven't really been exercising. Even so, I was able to complete all the repetitions and circuits without cutting corners. Initially, I thought that I'd complete one session to make the wife happy and then be done. If you know me, you definitely know how lazy I was when it came to exercising. Luckily, the first session immediately changed my mind. Working out with friends is fun and motivational. I am slowly increasing my workout routines, but already feel more energized and have been getting better quality sleep - I'm talking about deep, REM sleep. Initially, my mindset was simply to “workout to eat good food.” Now, it’s shifted to “workout to eat good food, get energized, sleep well, and be healthier.” I was even able to convince *cough* bribe *cough* my husband into working out with me by saying that we’ll be more energized, which will help him study more … and help me clean the house instead of just taking a nap. LOL

The sessions are broken down into sections so that you don't have to do a billion repetitions of one exercise and want to quit. Instead, you have a steady flow and are able to ask the instructor for additional modifications as needed. For example, my left knee tends to hurt when exercising and my doctor tells me not to push it too much. I asked the instructor about it and they gave me lower impact variations. I feel safe and cared for knowing that the coaches at looking out for me by watching my form to ensure I do not injure myself.

Not once did I feel uncomfortable or judged. Instead, everyone was very encouraging and positive. I am glad to have found this new, welcoming community. 10/10 would highly recommend it.

I travel all over for work and use ClassPass to drop in to various gyms when I can. I stumbled upon King Strength and Performance while working on a project in NJ and I can honestly say that it's the best gym I've ever been to. I've been to my fair share of gyms and fitness classes - commercial gyms, CrossFit, Zumba, spin etc. You name it and I've probably tried it. What sets King apart from all those other gyms I've tried is not only the quality of workouts that they provide but also their trainers. I always leave the gym feeling great about myself and my body. The trainers are so attentive and supportive and the workouts are diverse and exciting. They are always quick with modifications if there's something you can't so.

I've also had some personal training in addition to taking classes with Coach Austin. He has always given me a personalized program that was fun and exciting to achieve my goals. Working with him for a couple weeks has helped me lose some pesky tummy weight, build muscle and achieve my lifting goals. I've never felt more confident in my body and my abilities in the gym.

I would be hard pressed to find a more welcoming gym atmosphere than at King. Everytime someone new comes everyone is quick to introduce themselves. It is one of the most positive and uplifting communities that I've been apart of.

I sustained a lower back injury a month prior to joining this gym. I was not only intimidated with a gym like this but also afraid I wouldn’t keep up with certain classes due to the recovery from my injury. Gerrick made me feel comfortable by implementing exercises that substitute the original exercise so that there isn’t as much stress on my lower back. For example, I wouldn’t deadlift with a regular deadlifting bar, as it would be too heavy and poses more risk in injuring my back again. Instead, I would use a kettlebell since it’s lighter and more comfortable for my back to handle.

After a month, with the encouragement of Gerrick and one of my friends, I felt more confident with how my back felt. So I decided to try attempting a regular deadlift instead of using a kettlebell. On my first attempt, I was able to go for 5 reps of 100 lbs! I was pretty proud of myself, especially because that was my first ever attempt at a deadlift. A week later, I decided to push myself further, and successfully deadlifted 115 lbs. At this point, I was afraid of going further than that, thinking that I might injure my back again. So that ended up being my max PR at the time. At the end of the month, I wanted to raise my PR even more and ended up doing a PR of 185 lbs! I was surprised I successfully did that.

Gerrick and the people here gave me the confidence to step out of my shell and do things I never would have imagined I would do. They helped me overcome my fear of bringing back my injury to do exercises I was reluctant to do and I’m very grateful for that support.

I have worked out at almost all of the gyms in the Cranford/Westfield area and I have to say that most trainers were not knowledgable and did not take my hip labrum tear into consideration; causing me to further injure my hip and hit a plateau in my progress. Because of this, I have been bouncing from gym to gym trying to find the right fit for me.
King Strength and Performance is the first place that I have been to that truly understands and accommodates to my injury. I was unable to perform a deadlift or bend over at all because I was so scared to re-injure my hip but the owner/head trainer Gerrick and their physical therapist Din have worked hand and hand with helping me learn proper movement patterns and techniques to prevent further injury. I went from not deadlifting at all to deadlifting 155lbs, which is more than my bodyweight! (In less than 2 months).
- The staff is friendly, passionate and very knowledgable in exercise science and movement.
- The facility is brand new, clean and easily accessible with plenty of parking in the heart of Downtown Cranford.
- It is convenient having a one stop shop for personal training, group classes and physical therapy.

Walking into a new gym will always be intimidating to me, but walking into King Strength and Performance made me feel welcomed. I have never been to a gym where everyone actually talked to one another during AND after class. In the past month, I’ve made some friends with similar fitness goals, and it makes these group classes fun even when my body isn’t fully awake at 7am.

This gym truly stands by its slogan “Consistency is King.” Taking these fitness classes made it easier for me to get into my workout routine; however, all the daily workouts vary. I have been coming here almost every day, and I definitely feel my overall strength and performance has improved. Gerrick does a great job in acknowledging clients’ abilities and caters the workout to their difficulty. He offers countless exercise regressions and progressions for his clients’ needs.
