What a wonderful place to work out at the weights are nicely returned to there proper place, compared to other locations. The men’s wet area was better than I expected. Only 2 things that I noticed. Why a brown clock with brown background. ITS IMPOSSIBLE to see it from the SAUNA. Surprised there’s no clock facing the STEAM room. There should be one for safety reasons. Hopefully this location doesn’t go down hill as other locations I’ve visited

Why does a member need to clean the Corners of the Men’s Hot tub since they have Pool Service. Instead of the pool person cleaning it properly he as a solution that produces suds Unfortunately it Doesn’t Clean the Slim and Dirt that’s in the corner/::NOT ONCE I SAW HIM ACTUALLY CLEANED IT. I WILL BE POSTING PICTURES ON My Next Visit IF it’s NOT CLEAN. This gym used to be one of the cleanest places unfortunately it’s gone down hill. As they do in other locations

This review is mainly for the Men’s Hot tub and the person from the pool company that service this location. Today Wednesday Nov 5 the men’s hot tub in the corners is totally disgusting. There’s slime and other stuff in the corners. I never saw the person ever wash the corners down or anything that requires physical work he comes in .walks into the room and pulls out a chair and sits down. When he was away the younger person would at least check the hot tub . I’ve been to other locations where the pool company washes the hot tub and that hot tub is nice and clean

I joined in February 2025 and signed up for personal training because I had no idea where to start. I didn’t have the best experience with personal training at first so I stopped going. But the team kept reaching out and encouraged me to give the new trainer, Jake a try. I’m so glad that I did because I’ve been sticking with it. He’s professional, motivating, kind, and genuinely wants to help. Not only am I seeing the progress, I feel it mentally.

This gym has always been dirty, but today it went beyond any limit. The restroom was absolutely disgusting - there was actual feces on the floor that stayed there for hours without anyone cleaning it. The whole place looked like an apocalypse of filth. Totally unacceptable for a gym !!! "Signature club" !!!!!!!!!

These workers need to stop asking every new customer to give them 5 stars on google because this is NOT a 5 star gym. It is absolutely disgusting. Everyone is super nice but the cleanliness of the place is appalling. The same bandaid has been in the NEW sauna since the first day they opened. Nobody has cleaned it and I take a picture of it every single time I'm there for proof, they don't clean ANYTHING there. The steam room legitimately has mold coming out of the ceiling and glass doors. The showers are filthy with hair everywhere.
Just because all the workers are kind and helpful does not make it ok this is a very UNCLEAN environment.
Corporate should check the camera footage and watch what your workers do all day. Majority are on their phones or gossiping with co-workers.

This LAF is so nice, I’ve been a previous member and had my complaints with other locations, but the welcoming feeling Yoshi and the team gave me was unmatched. I was also skeptical about PT, but Gio the training manager made me feel comfortable and helped me a lot with a routine.

The gym is very clean and well maintained. They offer a variety of amenities including a HIIT zone, Pilates, cycling classes, and a sauna and jacuzzi in every locker room. This is a nice gym with good equipment and a lap pool and respectful people working out in there. I just want to share my story about that 3 day pass trial thing. And that’s the reason I give it two stars. So I’m a middle-aged Chinese woman and I’ve been around and don’t have much shame:) I’m financially doing fine but it’s not easy to sell me anything unless I feel really good. I do live in Matawan sometimes but not all the time, this gym is very close by and I wanted to try it out so I signed up for a 3 day pass on their website. What’s the big deal? I thought, I’m not dirty and I smile and spread good vibes, I’m not gonna hurt anyone or damage any equipment, I just want to have fun for 3 days as they offered, simple. Wow I didn’t know this place was run under such an uptight sales vibe! The minute I signed, I got a call asking me when I’ll go there. And as soon as I went in a young guy asked me to sit down at a desk trying to give me offers and asking me to sign up, gosh at that point I didn’t even do any workout and not a drop of sweat came out of me yet. So I told him what I just told you and quickly ended this pressure to sign, like I said, I’m an old woman I have no shame, you said it’s 3 days free so I want to use it. Then he said he needs to see me on my way out, I was like I don’t have time for that, so after one hour of work out I left. As soon as I stepped out of the door they called me but I didn’t pick up. I don’t have time to waste. So the next day I went again to get my free workout, and again had to stop at the desk, sit down and let him convince me, ok I sugared him off and got my another session of free workout. I realized that the whole time he activated and deactivated my pass and maybe put me on the flag list so they get alert when I scanned in. So guess what, the third day I went in for my last work out, another guy raced out of the desk area telling me I can’t work out because I don’t have the intention to join. “What do you mean? You gave me 3 days to try it out.” But he said bunch of nonsense, saying how this pass works is only if I join, then the 3 day is free.
This is ridiculous, it’s like those free samples offered in front of a candy store, you take a piece, didn’t even bite it yet they already asking you to buy a bag of it. Then you take a bite, and didn’t taste it yet, they say “give me that remaining piece back!” lol
Ok whatever, he seems so upset and I feel like maybe they are working under high pressure to turn the leads to sign with the corporate policy. After all, these look like nice kids coming out of college trying so hard to make a commission. So I said ok and left. I have my dumb bells and bunch of videos downloaded from instagram at home anyways, I still get my workout.
I happen to be a person with extensive knowledge of successful sales strategies and philosophy of running a successful business. Over the years I saw plenty of business fail doing wrong practice like that and plenty of them succeed doing the opposite. I hope this review gets attention from the corporate level management because I want to help their gym to thrive. Sales is important, but it’s more important to improve the service, in this case they can make the gym a little cleaner and shift some focus to service and cleaning crew. And really good sales technique is not about pressuring people, it’s about being chill and make people feel good. Yeah, i seem like a cheap old lady who is not gonna sign now, but I might sign a month later or a year later if you don’t make it look so stressful.
When I walk into a dealership to buy new car, I’ll walk out when the salesperson gets so pushy. I love those old Italian salesmen who act so chill and like they don’t give a shit if you buy or not, I only want to buy from those cool people:)

I’ve been a member at the Cliffwood LA Fitness for a long time, but lately my experience has been terrible because of a trainer named Imari Jackson. She has continuously harassed me and made false accusations that have caused me a lot of stress and embarrassment. She even went as far as filing two restraining orders against me, both of which were dismissed by the court because there was no truth to her claims.
I’ve done absolutely nothing to this woman, yet she continues to create drama and spread lies about me and my family. I brought all of this to the attention of the manager, Mary, and other LA Fitness staff, but nothing was done to protect me or to stop this behavior. It’s frustrating and unfair that a paying member can be treated this way, especially when there’s clear proof that I’ve been the one targeted and harassed.
To make matters worse, Imari has even claimed she’s talking to a Vice President at LA Fitness about trying to get my membership canceled, which is completely unprofessional and feels like intimidation. I’ve provided messages and court documents that show I’ve done nothing wrong, yet no one at this location seems willing to step in.
I’m truly disappointed in how this situation has been handled. All I want is to feel safe and respected when I come to the gym — not to be harassed, threatened, or ignored by staff who are supposed to maintain a professional environment.

LA Fitness in Cliffwood is a great gym with everything you need for a solid workout. The facility is clean, spacious, and well-equipped with a wide variety of machines, free weights, and cardio equipment. I love that they offer group classes like yoga, Zumba, and kickboxing—it keeps things fun and motivating. Moved to the area and needed a gym and I can say that the sign up fees were decent. However, I’ve lived in the area for three years now not wanting to cancel my membership because of the proximity but I am not getting complete use out of the gym. The sauna and bathroom are a disaster. The back rooms do not seem to be used at all. Other than that the staff and atmosphere is decent but for the money I’m not getting complete use of the gym.

Terrible, it was so nice when it first opened now it is dirty and not kept up, the cliental could care less and neither does Mgt. The kids hang in the parking lot and smoke weed.
They need to keep the gym clean and get rid of the trash hanging in their lot and place of business for people who want to work out and feel safe. I have left the gym and now go elsewhere.

I am training with Ashanti at this Aberdeen location. I can say he’s really helping me a lot! I have Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis, Scoliosis and degenerative discs. I’m getting stronger safely. He even gives me special exercises to help my scoliosis. I highly recommend him as your trainer!

Down hill and disappointing. This gym has gone down hill. I've been bouncing between this gym and the Holmdel one, until it closed. The Cliffwood location was always the nicer one. I usually just swim. It's better for me after my injury. Unfortunately, the locker room is usually dirty and disgusting. The showers are most often moldy and dirty as well. It's clear La Fitness is not the good place to work out it once was.

The personal trainers here are absolutely wonderful and knowledgeable. My first complimentary self assessment experience with Ari made me feel comfortable and happy with pursuing it and she connected me with my trainer now, Ashanti who has been understanding with the goals I need to set for myself as well as educating me with safety tips and any questions I have regarding nutrition and improving overall health and performance especially in regards to competing in a martial art. I recently joined, about two weeks ago. The workout area is nice, I haven't come across any machines not working yet. This is a busy Gym. The locker room and bathroom area are dirty and the bathroom consistently smells. I guess my expectations are a little high? but for the price, I believe it should be much cleaner. The jacuzzi is empty right now and they're working on renovating that area as the ceiling above it is falling apart. For the amount of people that use this facility, the bathroom cleaning and locker rooms should be a major priority, but it doesn't seem that it is.
update: They've been out of small towels now for over a week and keep saying, we're waiting for our order. I don't know who's maintaining their budgets and their purchasing, but they're not good at it. You don't wait until you're out to order more. stop with the excuses and fix the stuff that's broken, clean up the dust bunnies under all the machines, and fix the locker rooms, the jacuzzi in the mens room has been shut down since I've joined and they said we're working on upgrading and fixing. The door on the steam room doesn't stay closed, the light inside has been out since I joined and they haven't cleaned the floors in that steam room in over a week. In my opinion, Whoever is managing this location, isn't managing it. I've heard other members say there was a woman named Nina who was the manage before and she was always visibly in the gym checking machines making sure everything was clean and operational. I'm not sure who the manager is there now, but it is definitely not kept up. I doubt they'll allow me to get my money back now, but if I could, I'd cancel and go to Powerhouse in Hazlet. I don't blame the janitorial staff, I blame the general manager, if you're the boss, then it's on you, not the employees, the leader sets the pace.

This is mostly about my personal trainer experience!
I left PF because I wanted to join a gym that had classes. I'm overweight right now and was HIGH KEY terrified to join LA Fitness because most people that go there are super fit. I joined for the Aqua and Yoga classes. While I absolutely love the classes, the only reason I have stuck with my gym and running routine for the last 4 months is because of my Personal Trainer experience at LA.
Ari walked me through the opportunity to start PT one day at LA Fitness. I didn’t want to do it because of the cost and low key felt like I would quit within 3 months. I thought I would be wasting my money. Ari was really good at pointing out all the benefits of starting PT Sessions though. She was so nice and personable and everyone kept coming up with her during our convo (gym members) and I could see how nice she was and motivating. I signed up because of her and am super glad I did. I've had a few sessions with her and she's such a great teacher. She's always on the floor too when I am at the gym working out alone and ALWAYS comes up to me to catch up and ask how my training is going. She really does care about everyone that joins because of her.
I started scheduling sessions with Ashanti and absolutely love what I've gained from my PT experience so far. He has been super helpful teaching me the right form when doing any workout. He's also super nice, chill, and motivating at the same time. I have never done well with teachers who use intimidation or yelling to motivate me. Ashanti pushes me for sure during workouts but in a way that is nice and encouraging. I don't like working out but I do like knowing during my PT sessions I have someone on my side that really does want to show me how to succeed and become healthier than I currently am. Honestly out of all the teachers I've had in the past on sports teams and at other gyms (like OT), I think Ashanti's been the best coach for me so far. Learning from Ashanti how to do other stuff other than the 4 machines I knew how to use really has helped me train every part of my body. He also is great at checking in personally quick before every session to show he actually cares about his clients.
When I'd get to the gym before joining PT, I would hide in classes or in one of the rooms in the back because I didn't feel like I belonged (again, currently high key not in shape). Now I feel a lot more comfortable on the floor and on the tredmill. I feel like I deserve to use the floor space or machine just as much as anyone else there.
Since started personal training sessions in March, I've started to see mini wins in my own body. I've ran 2 5ks since starting PT and have another scheduled. This would have NOT happened without Ari teaching me how many time's I should be coming to the gym, the info packets she provided on workout tips and nutrition guidelines, and my sessions with Ashanti. I legit couldn't run for a minute straight in March and now can run a 5k without stopping.
I also can pull up and button a pair of jeans that have not fit since 2022. I still am not wearing them until they look better, but in January they didn’t' even go past my thighs so that's a big win. My face is looking better and so are my arms and back for sure. Also might be TMI, but my weight was classified as Obese class II, and after 2 months I dropped out of that weight class. I really do thank my personal training sessions for this.
I have a LONG way to go to get where I will feel comfortable with my body but I know I will get there if I keep up with what I'm being taught in training sessions. Seriously this is adding years onto my life because I was so unhealthy.
THE only negative I have to say is people don't clean machines after use (same problem though at PF though). Kudos to the gym putting signs everywhere telling us to wipe down machines before and after. They can't do much more unless there's a way to attach wipes to every station.
Also, front desk staff is always super nice too whenever I go in and leave!

I’ve been training at LA Fitness since March 2025 and have had an excellent experience with Ashanti Maurice. He is technically expert, attentive and takes the time to listen and understand his clients needs. He tailored my program accordingly and consistently demonstrated deep knowledge in the field.
When I was asked to switch trainers due to scheduling, I chose to stay with him—and he even adjusted his time to accommodate me.

This location, contrary to the now closed Holmdel gym, is clean and by far, the vast majority of the equipment is functional. The only problem that I see, and unfortunately probably speaks to the quality of this gym, is the overcrowding. During the busy times, you do have to wait for most of the equipment. If, however, you're more interested in treadmills or ellipticals, there is plenty of them, and no wait lines.
The bathrooms are clean and attended to. The staff is friendly.

I've been increasingly frustrated with my experience at this gym. It’s become overcrowded lately which has resulted in encounters with some rather rude and unpleasant individuals. Additionally, i’ve also noticed some staff members who seem a bit questionable in their professionalism. I’m seriously considering looking for a new gym soon

DONT. I repeat DO NOT sign up to this gym let alone ANY LaFitness! I signed up and had an amazing rep but after only attending a month to the gym, and not wanting to return due to the back upkeep of the gym. The locker rooms, the smell, the fact that you have to bring your own lock and the lockers don’t have a combo # system. It’s terrible!
After not wanting to continue with them, they call me EVERYDAY! Even blocking the number doesn’t help because they will call you from their other #s! They don’t get the point until you pick up and curse them out. Even tho I already spoke to a rep and told them I won’t be using their facilities any more!!!!!
I’m sticking to LIFETIME FITNESS!!!!! It’s worth every single penny!

Google should not be advertising a sauna at this location. It has a sign that say "permanently closed". Which is a big reason that I was keeping my membership. I only visited this gym a few times, after the Holmdel location closed. It is small and crowded. Very disappointing.

I’ve been here for the past three and a half years after moving from Portland, Oregon. The gym was fine when I first joined, but the lack of supervision and maintenance has left it in really bad shape. Even the steam room is completely closed now. I’m updating my review as this location has declined a lot. There is a sign over the sauna stating that it is permanently closed. The locker room cleanliness is also leaving a lot to be desired. This gym isn’t very old and it went downhill very fast. You’d think they would invest in maintaining it after closing the Holmdel location.

Disappointing. I wish I had done a trial before signing up after a brief tour. This gym is not kept very clean (specifically in hot tub and bathroom area). There is never enough equipment or it goes missing. The mats are gross and torn. The pool is so overly chlorinated that even after showering, the smell of chlorine stays on my skin for at least a full day.
Before I signed up, I asked the person I was speaking with if they plan on reopening the sauna and he said “next month.” I asked him to confirm 3 times and he did. I followed up with someone at the front desk the following month and he looked at me like I was nuts. It’s been out of order for 2 years and it does not seem like there is any plan for reopening. Pretty annoying.
The class selections are fine. All the instructors I have taken have been good.
The babysitting was really what drew me here, and that’s been good too, which is a positive.

Weights and cardio equipment are fine. Only 2 squat racks is rough. 1 star is for the clear disregard for keeping the men’s locker room clean and functioning. Sauna shut down, steam room needing a part for 2 months, laundry often shut down for months at a time so no towels, drain larva in all the showers, toilets are soaked half the time for whatever reason like their idea of cleaning is hosing everything down, single bathroom outside of locker rooms is permanently locked for whatever reason. If not for the convenience of location, would end membership.

Honestly so upset because of what this gym has been turned into over the last few months. My family has been a member of LA fitness for a few years now, and these last few months have given us every reason to find a new gym. From being poorly managed to extremely unprofessional staff, I would never recommend this location to a friend.
If you’re looking for a good place to come and workout and leave your kids to play, this is NOT the place. Save your money or give it to an establishment that is worthwhile.

The worst gym that I ever been, a lot of the machines are broken and are a serious risk for every customer, the monthly fee for the quality that they offer is not good, YMCA and planet fitness offer better service for a lower fee ( with all respect). They offer better machines but more Than that is the maintenance of their gyms, in LA fitness there is no maintenance offer, I just upload a picture but there are more machines, wires and part of the place in this bad condition. Eyy LA fitness that care of us as your customers please and prevent accidents.

I signed up when they opened back in September of 2020 the manager was very nice. The front desk staff always said hello and were very welcoming! When something broke they would have it fixed in a timely manner. The gym was always clean they always had a cleaner on schedule. The sauna was working at that time and it was overall great.
Since then it’s definitely been going downhill. The gym is always packed out now there’s never a time it’s not busy but that’s not a big deal to me. It’s no where near how clean and up kept it used to be. There are machines that have been broken for weeks the sauna is permanently shut down. There are times where there aren’t any wipes to clean the machines, the bathroom isn’t up kept there are days where soap isn’t refilled or no paper towels. I almost never see anyone cleaning it where as before when they first opened, there was always someone cleaning it. Hopefully they can improve and go back to how it used to be.

Would go everyday and this place has gone DOWN HILL for $50 a month I get nothing planet fitness has more amenities for $10. Steam rooms been broken for well over a month and the manager always says “the parts coming this week” equipment is always broken, not enough equipment either. Bathrooms are disgusting nothings clean this gym is awful for the price you have to pay. It pains me to write this cause it was so good now it’s just awful and has been for the past few months.

It used to be nice and clean and beautiful. Ever since the Holmdel location closed and everyone was pushed over to Cliffwood, it’s been gross and heavily overpopulated. You can’t ever get a workout done in a decent amount of time because there’s someone always on a machine you need. Sometimes there have even been lines to get on some machines… there’s just not enough of them for the population of the gym. And it truly doesn’t matter what day or time of day you go there, it is ALWAYS packed. My boyfriend and I have been to different locations around the country and none of them have been as bad as this one.

Spacious, clean, well maintained. If the sauna and stuff like that is all a concern to you, you might want to go someplace else, but the real "gym" stuff, and the pool, and the hot tub are all up and running and maintained too. Lots of treadmills, bikes, and plenty of space throughout to do pretty much whatever fitness routines you want. The location is pretty convenient. There is always parking, too, even during peak hours.

This is one of the worst gyms I have ever been to. It is extremely overcrowded, especially after the nearby LA Fitness location permanently closed, causing an influx of members. During peak hours, be prepared to wait at least 15-20 minutes just to use a workout machine, which significantly disrupts the flow of a workout.
Additionally, the gym lacks sufficient equipment for key muscle groups, including biceps, triceps, legs, and back. Almost every type of machine or free-weight station is either occupied or unavailable, making it difficult to complete a well-rounded workout. If you're looking for an efficient and productive gym experience, this location is far from ideal.

Hey guys I am a neighbor of La Fitness Clifford Nj ,
I have an issue last year which the Jacuzzi water was filled of a lot of Chemicals I got a lot of burn to my body and even waste my Nice swimming suit, actually the color of my Swimming suit became a white?
I went through a lot of pain for 1 week.
I spoke with the LA Cliff-wood NJ management at to freeze my membership and I told them what happened,
However no one followed up with me and they really don’t care????
And now i hear they are changed the management and become under new management! So I called them to activate
My membership as my membership before including guest! But the lady answered my call this Friday wasn’t nice at all and told me that my membership was canceled and even I can’t have a guest with my new membership if I activate it????

It is so unbelievably packed now you have no choice but to wait for any machine or a spot to workout. Absolutely ridiculous that they closed a bigger location & expect people to squeeze into a smaller location. I’ve never seen so many treadmills down. It's a great gym. But.. there are major issues. 1- the saunas are down yet we still pay the same price. 2- employees need training. 3 - the steam rooms barely push Steam and it is usually colder or barely hotter than the outside temperature of the lockers. 4- if you expect to keep a pump here do not work out here too many people , your average going to wait 5 to 15 minutes for a machine or free weight section. 5 - the only one that has outstanding competence and is able to do their job completely is Mary the GM. Other then that. Place is cool.

Joined this club about 2 years ago when I first moved to the area. Promises of multiple amenities ( steam room, hot tub, sauna) as this was a “Signature Club”. The only amenity left is the steam room which barely works if it even operating at all. The hot tub is a RUSTY mess as they let the metal corrode all around the bathroom area and hot tub area (I would not ever walk around barefoot). After a nearly 2 year experience and $50 monthly + yearly fees around $60 I realized it was a total ripoff. The cleanliness factor is about a 5/10 overall which is not good but the false advertisement of amenities is really what bugged me. Other gyms in the area offer much lower rates and actually provide the services they market. When I finally got a manager on the phone all they wanted to do was resign me up for either higher yearly fees or higher monthly fees than what I was already paying. There was no real sense of responsibility taken for the lack of care and services. Very sad what direction this place has taken in the past 2 years but there are many options in this area I would definitely steer clear of this one if you care about your safety and health.
