Great Gym, But Sauna Needs Consistent Maintenance

I’ve had a good experience at LA Fitness overall. The gym is spacious, well-maintained, and usually has all the equipment I need without long wait times. The staff are friendly and the environment feels comfortable for regular workouts.

The only recurring issue is the sauna. It tends to have problems quite often and sometimes stays out of service for almost two weeks at a time, which is disappointing since it’s a big part of my routine. If the sauna maintenance was more consistent, this location would easily be a 5-star experience.

Decent gym with a good range of equipment and amenities. The machines are well laid-out, and the club is spacious with plenty of parking. Anyone thinking of joining this gym, should really look for other options. I've been a member for quite some time and there were ups and downs but what's been happening recently is just disappointing. The main part for me and most guys is Sauna and it's been really weak for months and now it's completely turned off without any warning or notice.
LAF, get your stuff together or WE will move on to other options.

Been a member for two and a half years and love it. My son also wound up joining after I brought him as a guest. They have a pool, too bad I can't outswim a rock. Always clean and boasts a smoothie bar. Lots of quality machines and free weights. You can work out any muscle group you desire.

If you have a job, do not get a membership here. They Open late morning and close early at night. Whoever the manager is needs to understand the customers.

They make it that you have to either get to work late or RUN TO THE GYM after work because they are going to close at 8pm.

And the staff is very strict about the closing time. They make sure to tell you on the last hour every 5 minutes that they will be closing.

Honestly if this gym wasn’t next to my house I wouldn’t ever go here. I’ve been a member for over a month and only was allowed to work out 5 times because it was my days off.

I work from 9am-7pm and they are open 8am-8pm. I’m very frustrated that I wasted my money here.

I love this gym and the staff but when trying to cancel personal training, I called multiple times to cancel, and was told they would call me back (they never did) and then when I was charged again, I was told that I could not get a refund. I was also told if I cancel, I’ll lose all remaining sessions and I had to schedule sessions and then cancel when the reason I’m canceling is as a grad student, I dont have time for sessions. There is an ongoing FTC lawsuit for LA Fitness making it hard to cancel, and I absolutely think it’s true. I am highly dissatisfied with my experience although the staff, especially my PT Anthony, were amazing and so kind. All I want is a refund and to cancel, which I think should be doable. Do NOT get a membership or PT here- they will not let you cancel without an issues

ZERO STARS. Crazy dirty! Men's Sauna is very weak, barely warm for months now. Without sauna the place is not worth it.
Many machines are broken and anyway can't work out as there's barely any AC in the machines area. The gym is being run down and Management is in denial. There are better gyms in the area.

Dirty, Dirty, Dirty! Can you say DIRTY! Like someone in another review said - it is the dirtiest LA Fitness. Mondays are the worst!
The women bathroom, locker room and showers are disgusting, paper towels thrown all over the floor and the hair piles are absolutely gross. It doesn't look like the place has been vacuumed ever! The floors/rugs throughout the gym, the machines, water fountains all DIRTY! Why corporate allows this filth is beyond me. All other locations I visit I see someone constantly cleaning, vacuuming, wiping down machines, here - I've never seen anyone clean ever (and I go nearly everyday)! This place needs a MAJOR overhaul is an understatement! ONE STAR ONLY BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO GIVE A STAR TO POST

I had a very poor experience with this gym. The front desk employee, Olivia, was extremely impatient. When I asked her to explain why I was charged $31 for freezing my membership for one month, she refused to provide any clarification and told me to speak with the manager instead. She was also dismissive and spoke to me in an unprofessional manner. When I followed up with additional questions about the gym’s operating hours, she said she was too busy and abruptly hung up the phone. While I understand it was a Saturday evening, that should not be an excuse for such poor customer service.

Update: July 7, 2025 I went to LA Fitness East Brunswick to take spin and swim. Ac was working inside the gym but not the spin room. Me and another member went and spoke with Lisa who was very attentive and checked the computer to find out that room was “abandoned” she immediately put in a work order that I greatly appreciate. Thank you Lisa.

Nov 11,2023 I go there to train with a friend and as soon as I walked in, 5 treadmills out of service. See picture below. I'm not sure how people can give this gym a 5. They have to be fake reviews. I lost count how many treadmills, ellipticals and stair climbers are out of service and have not been fixed in months. Women's bathroom filthy. The equipment is cheap and breaks easily. I’m shocked people sign up at this location.

Decent gym. It’s fair, not outstanding in anyway. The weights are usually in their place which is great. People and current staff are very friendly. The men’s sauna is usually strong, not weak like other places. Lockers are somewhat clean and kept, not outstanding in anyway. However, the stair machines and treadmills are forever down and in need of servicing. Hard to find an open one that is working especially during busy times. .

The showers here are really dirty. The soap dispensers have visible mold and grime, which is unacceptable for a gym. This needs to be cleaned or replaced!

Also, when I tried to dry my hair with my own hairdryer, all four outlets I tested made strange noises and smelled like something was burning. Of course, I had to unplug it and leave with wet hair. They do have a hairdryer in the gym, but it’s such low quality that I’d rather walk out with wet hair than damage it.

When you walk in you always are greeted by Lisa OM on weekdays,even if she busy .This location the hot tub is a perfect temperature Hot , compared to other locations. The sauna runs between 180-190 hot and relaxing after a good workout wish other locations would run at that temperature thank you Lisa.If the pool or the Spa or either of the sauna are down, they are usually up and running within a few days. It takes time to get the person out there to address the problem. Compared to other la fitness this one is there better one that s why I’m glad they have a manager that CARES

I became the membership a month ago and I gradually found what's wrong with the fitness.

1. Lower machine capacity.
For example, 6 running machines among 20 have been broken over 2-3 weeks. What's worse was the broken running machine is increasing week by week. When I complained the issue, they just said sorry, and it seems no detail plan to fix it.

2. No entering indoor pool.
Hot spa has been broken over 3 weeks. And ultimately my family couldn't enter the indoor swing pool. They just put bar not to be entered.

3. Dirty locker room.
Paper tissues are here and there. And Toilet always dirty.

This LA fitness is the worst among 7-8 LA finesse that i have used so far.

This club features a lot equipments, including weights, exercise machines, swimming pool, sunna, etc. it’s also located in a pretty convenient location. Enjoyed my first visit there.
Suggestions: ensure to have enough soap in each shower; mop the floor of the sunna room periodically, it was pretty dirty there.

Fraud Alert. As many have said, it's true. They charge your card months after you cancel. Funny thing is, they shot themselves in the foot.
Canceled in October at the end of my membership. They made me physically go there, and I have the email confirmation. Thought about rejoining, but not now !!!!
- Jan 1, three Fraudulent charges. Their "made up" annual fee, and two $5 charges.
After wasting way too much time trying to get someone on the phone to help, I had to dispute the charges on my card, and get a new card issued so they don't have access to it in the future.

I can't wait for someone with a lot more time than I have to start a "Class Action Law Suit" against them for Fraudulent charges. YOU DID NOT HAVE PREMISSION TO CHARGE MY CARD !!!

I've been to this gym before, but now everything has become much better. There are new treadmills and an exercise bike. Lots of new sports equipment. As always, it's quite clean and comfortable. The employees are very friendly and professional. There is a swimming pool, a sauna room and much more. You can also visit many different classes here. Large parking lot where it's convenient to park your car.

I am shocked how dirty this gym. It’s stinks from bathroom in locker room. The equipment is broken and dirty. There’s only one machine for some muscle groups, so you have to wait in line until someone finishes their workout. There’s no Smith machine. The mats are filthy, sweaty, and smell bad. One woman even came with dyed hair and went to the shower to rinse it out—clearly, she didn’t come here for the gym. The impression is terrible. I wouldn’t recommend coming here until they get things in order.

This place is fairly a good place to workout at , my only complaint so far is the lockers are filthy inside and out, mirrors always streaky and dirty , floor sticky and slippery. I also feel they should have people going in and out of the locker rooms and sauna do to the fact there are women that sit on the benches with no towel or underwear. If doing the bare minimum were a person it would be Kevin, who I guess is part of the membership team. Not really sure though because he never formally introduced himself. I had to ask him his name.

I came in to this location to purchase a membership for my son who is preparing for a special forces physical assessment.

Kevin was the rep I was most fortunate to be assigned to. His personality made it seams as though he wished he were anywhere but there.

I asked about:
Military discount: NO
First Responder discount: NO
Student membership (because there was a sign at the front promoting student memberships. NO

Against my instincts I moved forward with purchasing the membership. Then I left and went and looked at the reviews for this facility, which I should’ve done first.

I promptly went back inside and canceled the membership.

Please teach your employees about customer service. I assure you had I been given a more welcoming experience I would’ve looked past the bad reviews and kept the membership. But to be met by someone who can’t be bothered to introduce himself, sit up in his chair or put his phone away and not text while he’s talking to a customer is unfortunate and it’s definitely not a place I want to spend my money.

Its a necessity here to wear headphones or ear buds. Today there were two separate sound systems playing competing bad music and noise. In the mens room there was a broken faucet pouring out hot water non stop for hours. This place, like most LA Fitness or Esporta locations is a dump.

Management or corporate really just need to step up and read the last 6 months of reviews. I was hoping all the angry bad reviews were just unreasonable people. Looks like they have made the effort to fix the broken cardio equipment (only one bike and one precor down plenty available) I wasn't really wowed by crunch down the road, but at least they have barbells for all their benches and racks. I have been a member for many years. I had a workout on Saturday, May 18, 2014. I finished a tread mill run and went to do some upper body machine work. I realized in 5 minutes that I left my phone on the treadmill, went back and it was gone. I questioned the man who followed me on this treadmill and he said he did not see it.
I went to the desk and spoke to JOSE, explaining my problem. He lent me his phone so I could call my number while walking back to the treadmill, but I had no luck. I returned the phone to JOSE.
He offered to check the video cameras running in that area, but we could not see anything specific.
JOSE then checked his phone and immediately noted that I had submitted my phone number one number short. So, I entered it again and we went back. It began ringing when we got near the treadmill. It was on the treadmill with the man who said he did not have it. So I got my phone back.
Bottomline for me is to thank JOSE, whiich I did, but to thank Esporta for having such a helpful employee. He stayed with me throughout. JOSE is a very good reflection on Esporta, a very professional and helpful guy.

I will give this gym a 1. I signed up and brought my husband for a vip workout they would not let him in because he forgot his Id. The front desk and the guy who works at the desks ( Kevin ) was so rude to us . I decided to cancel my membership and the same guy who signed me up was so rude. And told me I could only cancel with the “operations manager” something that was never told to me. I came 3 separate times to speak to her and I she wasn’t there. Please be mindful when you sign up . Been going to this gym over two years. While it’s a gym and has equipment that allows me to work on what I wanna work out the problem is the gym times and the people working out. Signs need to be placed around the gym to remind people to re rack their dumbbells and plates after use. Half my workout is walking around the gym trying to find a pair of dumbbells. The gym is overall as clean as it can be. Some equipment broken at times but not the end of the world. My biggest problem is the gym times and how they have changed. You need to go back to the hours you had and stop using Covid as an excuse for why the times have changed.

Teetering been 3 and 4. 3.5 honestly. I heard it was a dumpster fire but I was happy to see it wasn't the case. Place definitely needs more pulley stations, but other than that, the selection of machines is decent. They do the Jersey schlong thing where they've got the weird AstroTurf area that takes up way too much space where weights and machines can go, but I was happy to see keiser spin bikes. 1) So many machines are not working. Some of the “repair” signs are there for more than one year- yes, more than one year. Some pity are attached.
2) Bicycles- only 2 are working out of 6 for more than a year. Lisa is manager and she tells me nobody does anything in upper management.
3) One day I took shower. The place for soap and floor were very dirty and non-hygienic.
Never took shower again.
4) They put new machines for antiseptic cloth.
I just noticed, machine is out of cloth.
I was told that Dave is in charge. In charge of “sign” -Not in Service ?
I am joining Crunch- they have newer machines.

My mom went here because they have Silver Sneakers classes. When she changed her insurance she no longer had the program. I think they gave her the most expensive plan to stay, because just 4 months later she spent all $200 of her insurance money meant for a gym. She loved this place, but it is very expensive for a senior on a budget. And there are no plans that would work with he two class a week budget.

Besides some of the equipment being out of order (understandable) This gym is all around very nice and welcoming to someone like me. The sales team made sure my membership included everything I needed while also keeping the cost efficient. If this was the NBA than I say Sign Nuri to a 5 year SuperMax contract!!

Responsible staff! My friend’s new lock wouldn’t open and all their clothes and valuables were stuck in the locker. Lisa was super helpful in troubleshooting. She immediately came over to the locker room to assist my friend and helped her open it.

This gym has everything it needs. Good amount of equipment. The sauna runs at an almost steady 175 degrees, the hot tub and the pool are also in good shape. Overall a very good gym.

Womens bathroom is always filthy, not sure anyone ever cleans it, and broken locks on the stalls. The gym floor is always dusty and dirty. Juice bar charges for ice. I'm stuck in a contract from when I signed up at an LA fitness otherwise I'd cancel and go to a different gym. At least the guys that work the front desk are friendly.
