I am extremely disappointed. This gym has shown the worst kind of corporate inflexibility—policies created by people who never have to deal with how unreasonable they are in practice.

I pay for my teenage son’s membership, and I specifically chose a plan that allows him to bring a friend. He did exactly that, yet I was denied entry. Later, I received an email offering a 3-day pass, and I attempted to use it. Instead of being allowed to work out in the designated trial areas, I was immediately escorted to speak with someone about joining.

I was upfront: I explained that I wasn’t looking to join myself but wanted to explore an option that would allow me to work out with my son twice a month. I was told no such option exists and that I would not be permitted to use the gym—simply because of “corporate policy.”

At this point, the free pass feels like a lie.

One of the more busy LA fitness is in the area. There is a lot of machines but they do go out of service quite frequently and none of the dumbbells are in the right position. Staff is very friendly and locker rooms are pretty tame and nice. Would highly recommend headphones a lot of slamming weights and grunting.

I wouldn’t even waste one star on this place. LA Fitness here is a complete scam. I got the premium membership, which was supposed to include a VIP pass for my friend for a full year. I paid over $570 upfront, and the manager clearly told me my friend would have access for the whole year.

Now, just a month later, after paying in full, they’re giving my friend problems and saying he doesn’t have a pass. The person who originally signed us up is suddenly “gone,” and no one else there seems to know what’s going on.

If the friend wasn’t included as promised, I would never have wasted this much money on such a misleading and poorly managed membership. I want my money refunded immediately. This place has no proper policy, no accountability, and is just a big rip-off.

A membership built on taking advantage of people and the house always wins. In August, I came upon financially hard times. I froze my account and payed $10 a month to keep the account. Yesterday, I noticed the annual fee charge. I immediately called West Orange and was told someone would call me back. No one did. I called Kearny and 2 young ladies, despite telling them I'm having a difficult time, explained there are absolutely no refunds despite wanted to cancel my membership altogether. I then asked how I can cancel. You have to cancel in-person or fill out of form and send it via the post office!!! Are you serious?! Post office? You can cancel online or anything easy, they make it difficult for you and lock you in so they keep charging you. They don't care about human beings.
Also, when I signed up in West Orange, I signed up expressly to use the pool. It was shut down for repair and I was told it would open after a weekend. It did not open for weeks!! And continued to be shut down on and off during the entirety of my membership.

This gym is very disorganized and management seems to be lackluster.

Where are the clean water filters? Why is a sink not working? Why are there only 15 out of like the 50 dumbbells racked? Why are machines broken and seldom fixed quickly? Where are the workers - just waving their hands and saying hi? You pay people to do that? I see that very rarely dumbbells are collected by workers but again - rare. No paper towels half the time. No sanitization wipes half the time. Have we learnt nothing from the pandemic?

This la fitness is an embarrassment to the others. You guys only have business because it’s the only regular gym around. Stop taking advantage of that and do better.
