Incredible family owned gym, came on vacation and fell in love. Classic old school style gym on the beach and you can get day passes for 16$ on card. Staff was so friendly and can't wait to come back on my next trip.

This place is awesome. I’m in town with my family this week and signed up for a week pass which gives access to both locations. Went to the mainland location yesterday and it’s a great full service gym with new equipment, lots of squat racks etc… but the gem is the island location! Went to this place today for back and biceps and man this is one of the coolest gyms I’ve been. Seriously OLD SCHOOL. Lots of old school machines in perfect working order, all felt really smooth. There’s just something about those older machines you can’t beat. The jewel is this Nautilus lat pull over machine, I’ve only ever seen it in old Dorian Yates and Mike Mentzer videos it’s truly a rare find. Most of the golden era guys say it’s the best piece of gym equipment ever made. It has a seatbelt and the weight stack goes from 1-10 then starts doing the alphabet… it’s awesome. I had a great workout could’ve been there for 2 hours. The place is great whether you’re just with your family looking to hit some quick machines or if you’re an old school meathead bodybuilder. Great service, the father who opened the joint was there working with his daughter so it has that small town family feel. 10/10 recommend.

This place is so run-down and old. It reeks of mold, likely because it has carpet. The equipment is ancient. The entire place needs to be gutted.

One of my favorite gyms I’ve ever been to. The gym is decorated in a beach-like vibe that makes a workout enjoyable. The equipment is all old fashion body masters, cybex, and nautilus which is golden era equipment that gives a smooth rep that is significantly better than modern style stuff. On top of the great equipment and atmosphere the attendants are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met. Lloyd specifically makes an effort to get to know you and ensure that your workout is as good as it could possibly be. He makes working out the perfect way to start your day and loves to hear when you enjoyed your time at Lyceum. I would give more stars if I could.

If you’re looking for old school. This is the place. Nothing fancy. Nothing special. Basic but great spot. One of my favorite gyms to go to.

Old school beach gym vibes. Not many of its kind left. Hot cardio deck is unfortunate but also kind of awesome. Has some old, classic, wonderful machines, including what looks like some early-gen nautilus gear. Two benches, a squat rack, 2 smith machines, and a solid dumbbell rack round out the offerings. They have a low pull that will make you feel like Arnold at Venice Gold's circa 1973. A real gem of a place.

Review for Ship Bottom Lyceum Gym - Basically depends on what you are expecting as a customer. I am pretty low maintenance so I like Lyceum and have been going to the Ship Bottom location for about 25+ years. The good/bad news is that not much has changed in those 25 years. The equipment is old but works fine, lots of options between free weights or machines. Interior is old, very tiny locker rooms, no guest wifi. Gets pretty hot in Summer, especially upstairs where cardio equipment is. But gym is rarely crowded which is a positive.
Update - 6-3-19 - I would be remiss to not mention that Ship Bottom location is only open Memorial Day - Labor Day in recent years. It gets very crowded from 8 - 10 AM during that period. The Manahawkin location is much more spacious and rarely overcrowded
