MAX Fitness and Wellness of Madison (formerly THE MAX Challenge) is where real transformations happen. First & foremost, MAX of Madison is a welcoming environment, as other reviewers state.
And there is flexibility (no pun intended) on several levels:
-- if you want to zip in & out for sessions, a-ok; if you want to banter with other members or trainers, you got it; it's all good
-- the in-home Zoom capability is consistently & favorably used by some; one member uses the option when in Florida several times a year
-- modifications for exercises are given in both directions, i.e., if you need to take it down a level, or alternatively, you want to take a crack at 'leveling up'
-- some of us could benefit from following the Nutritional guidance (raising my hand), however, that's what it is, guidance, and not any lecturing

They literally TRAP you into a contract and the only way to get out of it is to go in person and sign forms, for which they STILL charge you for your membership for that month. I was in the hospital and they still would not make an exception and cancel over the phone. I then went in to cancel after months of calling and arguing with them, I asked to have the manager, Greg, call me regarding being charged for the month of February, and instead of receiving a phone call from him, I was charged for the month of February without my permission. Apparently you need to notify them of cancelling your policy 30 days in advance, which gives them to ability to charge you for the current or future month. I have notified them since SEPTEMBER, that I wanted out of this program, yet I have been continuously charged and have not attending a single class for months. By the way, the program sucks. The work outs don’t even make you break a sweat. I can do a better job by myself at the gym. The last cycle of the diet makes you cut out ALL SUGAR (INCLUDING FRUIT) ALL CARBS, ALL GLUTEN… No wonder you lose weight, you starve yourself. It is completely unrealistic for someone who has a full time job that requires physical activity (RN). I DO NOT recommend working with this place / program/ manager “Greg”. Don’t get yourself locked into this ridiculous scam! I will be disputing this charge with my credit card company as well.

Love the Max and ALL THE TRAINERS!! They are fantastic, fun, profesional, supportive and a total inspiration. SHERRY’s classes are hard, different every time and she makes them fun! Time flies with her. KYMAAL’s classes are full of energy, they kill you and he pushes to bring the best out of you. YAJAIRA’s classes are great, she always encourages you to try harder and to keep going and TERI brings different exercises that work muscles that you didn’t even know you had!
Let’s not forget Loraine at the front desk! She is bubbly, energetic, happy and her mood is contagious. If you get there tired or sleepy, she will change your state in a second!!
They all help, support and inspire you to achieve your goals…JUST LOVE IT!!

I’ve been a member for almost 6 years since my wife gave me a membership for Christmas. I wasn’t thrilled since I liked sitting on the couch all night during the winter after work. But I knew I had to exercise and eat healthier as I got older. I was never one who wanted to take a class for exercise. I was the silent exercise on your own type. I was wrong. The Max was inspirational, fun and social with no judgment and only encouragement. I’ve enjoyed meeting many other Maxers and the trainers who work hard making the classes fun and challenging. I would highly recommend joining if you want to get off the couch and get healthy.

Joining the Max Challenge is the best decision I've made! It has truly changed my life. Before the Max, I always struggled with being consistent with my fitness. I would constantly find excuses to skip working out and couldn't find that motivation within myself. Then I joined the Max. From day 1, I was welcomed with open arms. I was nervous, starting fresh, that I would feel uncomfortable in class, but that has NEVER been the case as everyone is there to support each other. I tried MaxChallenge because I thought it might be a good fit…. However, it became impossible to make the class times around my work schedule. They are now REFUSING to cancel my membership unless I come in, when the reason I am
cancelling is because I can’t make it in….. they are continually threatening to keep billing me, and my credit card company had to block them and has reached out to them to ask them to stop, resulting in them THREATENING to send me to collections!!!! This is insane. I can’t leave a worse review. I will continue to update the situation as I have zero respect or understanding for a business that stands with these policies. DO NOT COMMIT TO THEM!!!!!

The Max in Madison is the only gym I have ever stuck to for more than 3 months- and I’ve been there 5 years now! All of their trainers are enthusiastic, knowledgeable and understanding. The centers are clean and well equipped and I always feel safe going there. The Max is a great place to revisit your exercise routine and get guidance for healthful eating. The on-line work outs saved me during the pandemic.
And I have continued with virtual work outs ever since. I can do them whenever I can. My work life is very hectic, so not having to get to a set class really works for me.

I recently joined this gym and have loved every moment. Each staff member I interact with is very friendly and welcoming. I was a little nervous before starting the workouts however, each trainer has taken time to welcome me into their classes and provides as much assistance as needed. The trainers are motivating, friendly, and create an amazing atmosphere. Another bonus I did not know I would be getting is the community this gym offers. The Max is like no other gym — it’s a warm family of people who want to improve their health and fitness. I have 100 percent enjoyed my experience at MAX Challenge. Incredibly well run and dedicated to your health, fitness and nutrition. Broad schedule of class times, super easy scheduling app, inspiring trainers, lots of variety in the workouts and the most community of fellow members of any fitness place I've been to (both in person and online). A big plus is you are encouraged to work out at your own best level (and not match the level of others, or the trainer) and the trainers consistently show modifications you can make to go up or down in intensity.

A few months into the pandemic I joined The Max Challenge of Madison. It’s been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
First, there is the exercise. A year ago, I would have been thrilled to work out even three days a week. Now, I take a virtual class five days a week and it’s a part of my routine. This change alone is amazing to me and worth the membership. It’s not just the weight or inches lost. It’s the feeling that what I’m doing has a purpose and is good for me. Also, this program will fit into my lifestyle post-pandemic, even when traveling.
The food plan is a game changer. What I noticed over the first few weeks was that I felt better, looked better and had more energy. I fit into a skirt from high school. They sell their own protein powder and within a few weeks I craved Max shakes instead of candy. From then on, I’ve been hooked. People who haven’t seen me in a while comment on the positive changes. I’m not perfect, but I see how much better I look and feel when I follow the program.
Lastly, there is the atmosphere created by The Max Challenge. The instructors are encouraging during and after the workout. I haven’t felt any judgement and I like their post-workout pep talks. There is even a secret Facebook group for Madison and its sister location, Montclair where members and staff swap recipes, support and encourage each other. As a bonus, this program is about a third of what I paid for my NYC gym. It would be worth it to me at many times the price, as it’s been such a transformational experience.

I’ve been a member of the Max of Madison since they first opened up 4 years ago. They are the best. The staff and trainers make sure that you give your best during the workouts. They are make sure your form is correct and that you are doing the exercise correct. This past year they’ve gone well and beyond. They did not let this pandemic get in the way. They held virtual and outdoor classes. Now that indoor classes have opened up they haven’t disappointed. If you're looking to live a healthier lifestyle and lose weight in the process, this is the place for you. The members and staff are so welcoming, encouraging and supportive. I've tried branded weight loss programs in the past but this is by far the program that works for me. Since I joined 6 months ago, I learned to eat the right foods for me and my family, I titrated down on my cholesterol med, I'm off my pre-diabetic and high blood pressure meds. They educate you with their nutrition classes and the classes are high positive energy taught by trained professionals. It was the right fit for me. I'm very happy that I found the Max and they are right here in Madison. Love it!
