Located just minutes from Atlantic City and Ocean City, New Jersey, McCullough’s Emerald Golf Links offers players a distinctly different Irish-Scottish golfing experience. With wide-open fairways, tricky winds, true undulating greens, and remarkable grass mounds and bunkers, players will be both challenged and fascinated. The 18-hole, 6,600-yard par 71 layout is a unique tribute to famed European courses including Saint Andrews, Carnoustie, Prestwick, Gleneagles, Turnberry, and others. With water on five holes and the region’s only 100-foot elevation changes, players can enjoy tremendous vistas, along with challenging play, reminding them of the true British Isles ‘golf experience.

Pretty good course. Nice elevation changes and thankfully the greens are relatively wide. The rough isnt so forgiving, but its not as bad as it used to be. I usually only lose 10 balls on this course... Beer tends to help

Meant for the more experienced golfer, this links course offers holes that will test your skills. Prepare for winds, and bring a few extra balls. Fairways were decent shape for August, and the greens are wicked fast.

Great layout, great conditions...absolute friendly staff all the way around....wide open course, but you still need to hit shots to score well...an all around fantastic round of golf here...

We had a Friday morning 6:50 AM tee time. The course itself was very nice, well maintained, and our initial interactions with all of the staff members were fantastic. It had rained the night before, so it was cart path only, but this was not an issue for us. We were playing at a normal pace, however, we had a ranger basically following us the whole time. After the 9th whole, the ranger came up to us and told us that we were playing too slow and needed to speed up. Again, at the 13th or 14th hole, the ranger came up to us again and said that we were holding everyone up. Also keep in mind that the group behind us was playing from the red tees. Anyway, it was pretty annoying to have a ranger hovering over you and telling you to “speed up” when you just paid $145 to play a round of golf. Seems like they’re just trying to pack in as many golfers as they can to make a buck.

I tried calling the clubhouse and left a message - I have still not received a call back- UPDATE- The GM called me back somehow even though he didn't get my message, so how did you get my number? The GM vaguely remembers the day but was unsure about what to do about the situation - The interaction was just to save a google review- I do not wanna play here again & not looking for a free round , what I was looking for was some accountability.
Vagabond Kitchen & Tap is fantastic — highly recommend stopping in for a drink or bite to eat. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the golf course and pro shop staff. I had two foursome prepaid tee times for a Sunday, and despite the heavy rain, we were told we had to show up since we’d already paid. When we got there, we were encouraged to try just 9 holes because, in the words of the staff, “I’m not in the business of writing rain checks.” We went out and, unsurprisingly, got completely soaked. When we returned to ask for a rain check for the remaining 9 holes, we were met with a dismissive, “Hey, at least you gave it a shot, right?” as if we should be grateful. Entire bag was soaked , so my Sunday revolved around cleaning and drying everything in my entire bag. So we paid 1000$ to golf , get soaked , bought lunch and got a 9 hole voucher to use within 60 days.
If you’re in the area, I’d suggest playing at Twisted Dunes or Ballamor for a better golf experience — then head to Vagabond afterward .

BUYER BEWARE!! CHECK YOUR CREDIT CARD!
**Editted review to respond to owner’s FALSE reply**
Booked a foursome directly from McCullough’s website. It was a great deal. Apparently too good of a deal. We got to the 2nd hole and the starter came out to tell us the price we paid wasn’t correct. Our choice was to keep playing and get charged that day’s rate or go in and talk to the GM for a refund. McCullough’s has always been one of oir favorite courses to play. We planned on going into the pro shop afterwards for a shirt or hat, but we won’t ever be going back again. They didn’t even consider honoring the price from their actual website. Shady business that they just charged the card without consent or signature.
***REPLY TO OWNER***
FIRST- I was a part of the foursome playing, just not the cardholder who booked the tee time. It was YOU who was not present. You sent your starter out to talk to us.
SECOND- your email received AFTER this Google Review and your reply states you attempted to call and received busy signals…because you googled numbers that haven’t existed for a decade or more BUT you never attempted to email or call the cardholders correct number prior to this Google Review!
NEXT- A “glitch” on your end should have been honored regardless of the price. Doesn’t matter if it was $10, $50, or $110. How did we know it wasn’t a flash sale or special pricing? Businesses run sales all the time! The bigger question is WHY didn’t you honor your posted price, the paid price, and the email confirmed price? That’s typical practice in the consumer world.
ALSO- We showed up early for the purpose to shop in the golf shop since we knew our time would be limited after. We were also given permission and the go ahead to tee off early since you had a hour+ gap with no bookings. We didn’t just go out on our own free will as you implied. AND booking online with a contactless tee time means it wasn’t necessary for us to even check in at the golf shop.
Again- it was You who wasn’t present for the conversation, but your starter discussed us coming in to talk with you after the front 9 since we were already at the second hole- BUT you immediately charged a credit card based upon what you perceived as verbal, though second hand authorization, when we didn’t immediately come in.
You lost out on us spending $$ on hats/polos in the golf shop, not to mention any future golf. Word of mouth and this review will let others know why the one star review.

Second year playing at this course, cannot recommend this place enough. 10/10. Course is in incredible condition. I will speak past the course for a moment. The people. The people at this course are absolute class. From the guys that check in your bags, to Ben the starter, to Chris the ranger.
Special shoutout to Chris, the ranger, an absolute asset to this course. Chris took time to help my friend find his ball, escorted my girlfriend to the club house bathroom while the course bathrooms were going through maintenance cleaning, and stayed up to date with our 2v2 best ball scramble all day. We can’t thank him enough for adding fun and being helpful throughout our 18. Cheers to all of you, hit em straight, and make sure you thank the staff that keep these courses alive. Will be back.

I play at McCullough’s Emerald Links regularly, and it’s always such a great experience. The course is consistently in fantastic shape and is by far the best around my area. Today, I lost a club, and I want to give a special shoutout to Joey, one of their employees. Not only did he find my club, but he also took the time to get it back to me by taking my name and number. Amazing service, and it truly shows the level of care they have for their guests. Highly recommend this course—always a fun time!

I really don't like to give poor reviews. If you make the effort and focus on the customer, other things can be overlooked. But....I played a round here yesterday. 10 AM tee time but when we got there at 9:30 the clubhouse/pro shop was locked. Waited in the cold. Finally, at 10:05, as we were about to give up, the pro shop employee pulled up. His quote: 'the last time I looked, the 1st tee time booked was 12:00, so I figured I could be late.' Poor service. Then it was explained that the 15th and 16th holes were across the road. Fine. We play thru 14 holes, with very, very poor signage directing you from hole to hole. When we get to the turn off for 15, the gate is locked, so we couldn't play them. We finish the course, go back to the pro shop, let the employee know about missing 2 holes. Quote: 'Oh, the maintenance guy usually opens it, he must have forgotten.' We asked for an adjustment to our greens fee or some kind of compensation. The answer: ' I can go out and unlock it if you want. It's not too far away'. He wouldn't do anything because he said he offered to let us repack our clubs and drive back out to the 15th. He was more interested in eating his sandwich than he was with making right with his customers. A very, very poor customer service experience. If you're choosing between here or Twisted Dunes, right down the road, choose Twisted Dunes. Much, much better customer service. I wonder if he volunteered to adjust his pay for showing up so late?

This is one of the least accommodating management teams I have ever ran into I played today with the veteran who only has 1 foot. They gave him my handicap cart, but it only would get 60 to 80 yards of the green when he told them he couldn’t manage the course they gave him a hard time getting his money back.

Played here for the first time yesterday. Course was in great condition. Course is challenging and open but you need to stay in the fairways since the sand traps are deep and the tall grass is ridiculously high. Had dinner at the course restaurant Vagabonds and had a great meal. Shout out to all the staff they were great from the guys at the bag drop to the rangers, cart girl and bartenders. Will definitely be back and thank you for the great service we received.

I was thoroughly impressed with this well maintained beautiful course. Although I didn't golf I really enjoyed riding the cart around the course celebrating my brother on his bachelor trip. All the staff from the cart attendant to the Marshall the cart girl and the restaurant staff were very friendly and professional. You can see they take great care in the maintenance of the course. An added touch were the updated carts with Bluetooth. I will gladly recommend this course the golfers and non golfers.

SLOW, SLOW, SLOW. Golfed here Saturday 9/30/2023 at $115 per golfer. The course was wet so cart path only, but they permitted a group of six to go out ahead of my twosome. Not from the area so I'll never be back and they refused a 1/2 refund after nine holes. Played a thirty minute 10th, and got a useless raincheck. If you're a vistor, stay away. One positive was Tony, the starter. Nice man.

Great golf course. Fast, smooth, beautiful greens. Nice fairways.
Great layout. Great condition. Enough room to play a fade like I do. Plenty of trouble if you spray the ball. Lots of sand traps. Dont have a bad thing to say. I'll play it everytime I'm in the area.

As far as a links design is concerned, it's lack luster at best here. For the price tag, just go to harbor pines. You're better off dealing with the trees than you are the poor quality greens. Divots were filled in with litterally pieces of fairway grass. A couple holes (hole 10 especially) had what looked like oil from the mower marked all over the green, back and forth. The sand used for the bunkers provide absolutely zero support for your stance, even after digging in, as if it was sandbox sand for a kids playground. I may not be the best golfer on the planet, but compared to other courses in the area, this is highway robbery at best. Paid nearly $100 for a round.

Played here today after wanting to for many many months and it did not disappoint in the slightest! The views that you see of the course when on some of the higher elevation holes like 11 are incredible. The conditions were impeccable, and the staff was very friendly! Big thanks to the marshal today, I wish I got his name, gentleman had a mustache and gave us an incredibly thorough overview of each and every hole, how to play certain shots, and even stopped by and gave us lost balls that he found while roaming the course! The service and dedication that he showed made me think this was a private club. All around fantastic day, thank you for it!

Good course, in great condition. Each hole is a replica of a famous hole from Europe/U.K. Everything flows really well, it’s wide open, but you still need to hit good shots in order to score well. 16/17 seemed a bit out of place when you look at the course as a whole. Pace was right on track and the rangers were really nice and wanted to get to know us. One downside was the group behind would fire off their tee shots before we could even get our second shots in, then just kept going and had no respect or patience. I would come back. Priced decently, and if it’s a cooler day and you go out later it’s much cheaper.

Best bang for the buck in AC area. Course is fair but a few quirky holes (6th Par 5 but could hit driver in creek), 7th (hate the forced carry) 15th (risk reward hole but if you lay up you cant get a flat lie and going for green is impossible over the trees). Bar is nice but they messed up a few of our orders - need to simplify menu / give some options. Halfway house nicer addition!

Unfortunately 2 items of mine, 1 of which my prescription was stolen by employees that work at the course. I am taken back that I paid $238 for my friend and I to play there and then over $200 of my belongings were stolen. I am upset and taken back that this establishment would allow that and also tell me there is nothing they can do about it. It could only have been 1 of 2 young men working by the golf carts from 11:30am to 12pm on this past Sunday 5/29. Again very angry and disappointed that this is a something that would happen. I recently was on vacation at the Jersey Shore and golfed at several courses while I was there. I have been a avid golfer for many years and the last 14 years I have been an avid amputee golfer. My treatment at McCullough Emerald Golf was probably the worst I have experienced. There were no Handicapped
Flags and the rules for someone with a disability was the same as everyone else.
They should really read the the ADA rule book for golfers who have a disability. I was told that "I know you have a problem" but I have to keep the cart on the cart path around t boxes and greens and no closer! I don't have a "problem" just a disability! All other courses let me get 30 yards from T Boxes and Greens which make playing and golfing with one leg possible. Apparently, if you have a disability you are not wanted or welcome at McCullough's!! No problem! There are many welcoming courses right down the road that were most accomodating!

He wore a mask the whole time and explained to the pro shop that he has been on the front line of the Covid19 fight. They STILL charged him for doing the right thing. I will never play there again.

Scheduled a 5:20 tee time this Monday afternoon. Showed up to the course and was greeted by a very friendly bag guy who was both kind and knew what he was doing. I arrived to the first tee box about 10 minutes before the tee time and was practicing on the putting green for almost 20 minutes as my partner waited for the tee box to clear up. At this point it was already 5:30 (10 minutes after when we were supposed to tee off) and there were 2 groups that haven’t even tees off yet. At this point we said screw it not wanting to wait another half hour and headed off the course.

Staff was friendly and efficient, didn't need to check in with pro shop, check in done curbside. Good social distancing protocols. Sandwich was excellent but did take bit if time on the turn to be ready. (Called ahead from 8). Course is rugged links style. Greens were well maintained and very quick. Enough challenges with a very thick rough, don't stray from fairway or it will cost you. Giving 4 stars because of the rough.

McCullough's offers a complete lack of responsibility for services provided. Despite the incompetent and ignorant manger, Tom, the golf attendants are friendly. You might be wondering how I came to this conclusion.
Our tee time was 6pm and if played quickly, 18holes may be a stretch, but definitely more than 11holes. At 7pm we were at the turn, making great time for our evening. Our cart then dies at the end of the 10th hole, just after 7pm. We make attempts to call the front desk, attendants, maintenance, golf pro, general manager, and even the RESTAURANT. I left a message with the GM and we walked back carrying all of our gear.
When Tom, the GM, finally called me back in the morning. He made comments that he was not at fault, that he could not control something like that, that the restaurant was a completely separate entity (so calling them wouldn't have done anything), and what could we possibly expect from a twilight tee time? He at least offered to discount our next play without taking down any of our information.
My expectation is that in the event that I need help, someone got hurt, or there was an issue that didn't require me to call 911, that SOMEONE would answer the phone while there are still guests on the property. That at the very least, I would be able to drive back from the other side of the course.
So if you can get past the breeze of sewage smell here and there, get past the fact that Tom does not care about you as a customer, and want to play some golf, make sure you stop by McCullough's.

First experience.... The food was delicious although a limited menu, the service (blonde with glasses) not so good. Took awhile before she came to the table so we could order. My husband's order came out wrong, said no lettuce and asked for regular Mayo.... Had lettuce and the wrong Mayo. Long time before asking if we wanted water refills and when she finally did she only asked me when my husband's glass was near empty. She was very short and abrupt the entire time. Not a first good impression, sorry.

This course doesn't have any hall number signs at all. It was really confused which hole is next hole. And I could even smelled gas at certain hole. You will see several active landfill gas extraction systems. This course was formerly
Landfill site. I couldn't recommend this golf course to anyone.
