This gym has been trying to collect money from my elderly mother for months. They were billing her the whole time they were shut down during covid and she couldn’t even use the gym! They also added many bottles of water to the bill and she never once got a bottle of water there and didn’t pay. She brought her own. This is harassment at this point.

As much as I wanna say I liked it hear I just didn’t. Yes they have a lot of equipment more than some gyms in the area. Are the machines maintained? doesn’t seem like it. I would personally rather pay the same price if not less at a commercial gym that is consistently clean and taken care of. Never had a bad encounter with staff everyone was very nice. Overall place just seems like it’s not being taken care of. I’ve never seen staff cleaning and I don’t blame them. I blame management for not enforcing it. The thing that made me finally realize I had to leave was that they closed at 2pm on Sundays. The hours say 7pm I got half a workout in had to go to LA Fitness after just to finish my workout. I hope they realize that these issues need to be resolved they have so much potential to be a great gym just need to show some love to the establishment and get the place straightened up.

What ever you do, DO NOT GET A MEMBERSHIP HERE!! My husband was injured months ago, can't use the gym and send notice in writing of cancelation after being a "member" over 4 years, and manager refused to cancel membership!!! Manager was advised over the phone and by 2 emails in writing of cancelation. After 2 emails canceling, and multiple calls, they REFUSE TO CANCEL HIS MEMBERSHIP. My husband is a police officer, and is not allowed to leave home when out on sick leave, and his surgery doesn't not allow him to use a gym, however this gym will not cancel unless they get a DOCTORS NOTE from his surgeon according to the "manager"!!! Complete INVASION OF medical PRIVACY AND HOW HORRIBLE of them to even ask after they have received written notice twice now. His membership was supposed to be on hold since FEBRUARY WHEN THEY CHANGED THEIR HOURS...he couldn't use it based on their new hours, and still kept charging him since Feb 2021. Now he's having SURGERY and despite written notification according to their own contract, they still refuse to cancel. Shameful local business, and after reading all their other reviews, I know why they're requiring a letter from his surgeon to cancel membership. BEWARE, Their contract states NOTICE IN writing which they have, and now they ask for a letter from his surgeon to cancel. I don't think his surgeon has the time to write a letter to NJHF begging for a dirty gym to adhere to their own contract of cancel via notice in writing. Beware ANYONE THINKING OF JOINING NJHF....You'll about need a death certificate to cancel and they breach their own membership contract by ignoring notice in writing of cancelation.

Terrible business practices and SMELLY DIRTY DISGUISTING PLACE. When I complained to the girl manager, she was dismissive, rude. Never any toilet paper in bathrooms, and the cleanliness gets a big 0!
Owner needs to hire another manger and get rid of that girl.
I went to Planet Fitness, much cleaner, didn't stink and the managers were very accommodating. #DontGoToNJHF!!!

The management at this establishment is complete garbage. I have come to find out that a 4yr member whom i know very well who needs surgery after 25yrs of serving the public and had to cancel his membership was givin the runaround and told no after sending written cancel and note from surgen. These people should be blacklisted. This is some of rhe most unprofessional behavior I've ever heard of. I encourage the people to boycott this place. Treated like this should not be tolerated.

I was a member since 2016. When new owners took over the quality of service went down slightly . A lot of people cancelled memberships but the childcare was reasonable so I stayed. After being closed due to Covid since March the gym reopened in September. They began charging without members consent to continue with the new changes. I went in and spoke to an employee who said I’f the new changes did not work for me I could cancel at any time. He also said the annual fee due in November would be waived due to the pandemic. I had concerns about remaining a member and paying a few if they were going to close shortly. It sounded reasonable so I tried it a few times. Between the lack of daycare and new mask policy it just did not work for me. I cancelled my membership in late October and was told by ANOTHER employee my membership would be cancelled immediately with no further charges and assured me the annual fee was waived this year. Ok Nov 1 I got charged with a monthly fee. I could not get a manager on the phone. By email she was unprofessional and rude. She refused to acknowledge what her employees said , or even look into it. She insisted I did not give 15 days notice so I owed the November payment. On Nov 17 I got charged the annual fee. I had definitely canceled 15 days prior. And I was NO LONGER a member. I called and could not get anyone on the phone. Via email the manager was rude unprofessional and said the fee is part of the contract for next year. They will not be open due to Covid. They were closed most of last year. Due to there horrible treatment of customers I imagine they will close all together. How is it ethical to charge me an annual fee for next year on a canceled membership ? The manager is possibly the most ignorant condescending scam artist I have ever dealt with. When I said I would prefer to resolve this with the gym directly instead of fighting it through my bank the manager threatened to “look for other money I owed and send anything supposedly owed to collections” if I fought the charges with my bank DO NOT GO HERE. THEY WILL LIE AND TAKE YOUR MONEY. It’s a job in it self to try and cancel. Worst experience dealing with ANY business in my life.

My husband has been a member since this gym opened and he says that ever since it was sold it has gone downhill. the old owners kept the place really clean and the equipment was always maintained. NOT ANYMORE, The place is not very clean and equipment showing wear. It doesen't seem like the new owners are putting ANY money back into the business and since they recently reopened the hours have changed. being open on sunday was always nice. They now open at 6 am instead of 5am, they now close at 8pm instead of 10. Place was much better before.

They claim you cannot cancel the membership by phone, fax or email, where even a credit card or bank account you can cancel by phone. Completely criminal try to charge people more as much as possible.

Update after almost a year: They came back to me and trying to collect money from me again. I recommend everyone think before you use this gym. Worst general manager ever.

I'm back here after at least 5 years of doing my own thing at home. Different owners, lots of bad reviews. It seems fine to me. I don't know if it's really 5 stars but I'm giving them 5 because I want the rating to go up. I know what it's like to take over a business, and the transition always leads to some bad reviews. They have tons of classes, the instructers (so far) are all welcoming, and there's daycare. For 30 bucks a month, I think it's a great deal. I never feel self-conscious in there, but I don't do machines, and I think feeling self-conscious is more about you/me than the people around you/me. But people seem nice, classes are diverse, and I can't see any reason they wouldn't have at least 4 stars on Google. No complaints so far!

Bathrooms/locker rooms are alway dirty and out of paper towels. Equipment is in bad shape and never gets repaired. Cardio equipment is broken and dirty. Staff there doesn’t care when anything is brought to their attention.

My boyfriend got charged for over a year after he cancelled his membership. They sent collections to him after a YEAR of him not paying the membership even though he CANCELLED. This gym is unprofessional & a trap. They don’t care about your health, they care about taking your money. They used to call you if your payment was coming up & you didn’t have the money on your card already for the automatic charge, now they just charge you anyway and never call or let you know what’s going on. It’s a scam to get your money. Not worth signing your life away to this place.

The worst experience ever. I went in and could feel every guy’s eyes on me. Worth it for guys that want to go there and flex against each other but for a woman, I HIGHLY recommend avoiding. The workers try to sell you the idea that you can compete for body building competition, but it’s totally part of their sales tactic. Honey, I’m not trying to compete in a bikini competition. I am just looking for an environment to get a good workout in.

Absolutely terrible! Full of meat heads. I was in there and dudes with their shirts off were flexing in the mirrors. Me and the fiancé did a 180 and walked right out of that place. The prices don’t really justify signing up. Retro is right down the road and only $20 and it’s a friendlier environment IMO. A place where someone can feel like they aren’t being judged by Instagram fitness models is huge for us especially for my fiancé who wants to feel comfortable while working out.

This gym sent me a collection letter because my purse was stolen with my membership. They were supposed to freeze my membership. I was going to cancel but since it was not close did think it was important since it was supposed to be frozen. Be careful when if you need to anything with your membership since the front desk does not know how to cancel or freeze membership

This place has been THE gym for years. Been here basically since it opened. Now it's got new owners; they and some of the newer staff are pretty bad. Tried to cancel my membership for the next month and it's 3 days before the payment gets requested and over a week before I get charged but it's too late already and they really tried to act like deadlines like that aren't to trap people. So now I'll be out of state with another month membership for this trash.

Ok so the gym itself is actually ok and large enough for the $$ compared to others in town. (There are plenty of tools and meatheads who lift here at rush hour but it is what it is. Get ready for lots of superhero tee shirts on adults.) Best bet like most gyms is to avoid from like 4-7 pm early in the week...

My biggest issue is the always stinky locker rooms, the empty paper towel dispensers all over the gym and locker rooms, and the front desk girls that work the weeknite 4pm shift.. Simple stuff right? They are typically rude and couldn't be bothered to do anything but text on their phones and gossip. (As soon as the manager is around they magically say hi and goodbye to you and smile but she leaves at like 5...) Your job is to say hello, get me a water or shake, and simply smile when I leave. U Literally have to do nothing to get paid! It's the simple things that can leave a bad taste. I'm not saying I'm changing gyms but if you can't handle this then you may have a tough time down the road in the real world..

Very nice gym that is mostly clean with a good mix of cardio, machines and free weights. Usually a lot of meat heads and most people there are in great shape. Music is not to my taste and the exercise classes BLAST their music so it is not a pleasant experience when class is in session. Good value to price ratio.

I love coming to this gym. Staff is always friendly and answers any questions. Close to work and home. I was just wondering if saturday hours could ever be extended to 10pm. I work till 7pm so I can't go on Saturdays evenings. Other then that me and my bf love the gym.

In addition to trying the gym out, my friend worked there and heard some disturbing things -

1. The fruit shakes have over 100 grams of sugar !!! Might as well have 4 cans of soda after a workout?!

2. There are naked old men that hang out in the locker room.....

3.The cleaners look homeless and walk around while people are using the gym.

4.If you are even a day late, or have insufficient funds at the time of their collection day, they will hit you with charges like theres no tomorrow.

5. The managers motto is "we like members that pay and don't come,"

6. The equipment is ok, and the members are nice, and they're staff is friendly. It's amazing how the owner has them doing flips for pocket change.

7. Owner is cheap, manager is defensive.

The experience at this gym was of the WORST in most aspect. The staff were condescending and rude. The equipment are dirty, the gym itself is poorly ventilated, and the smell is stiffening.

If you're a Veteran I highly recommend you staying away. Our presence and demeanor will be taken in the wrong way and the civilians will embellish the encounter to make us look bad! NOT Military/Veteran friendly.

To the owner: At the very point of the matter I made a complimented to the staff member regarding her kind demeanor. I didn't ask her out, nor did I try to hint at any point in time that I was interested in her. Now, your words were slandering, condensing, rude, and lacked proper direction. You clearly were speaking without thinking.

Also, lets not forget the other reviews on this review forum. Several of them are writing similar experiences. RUDE, POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE, etc. To use a basis to further validate my statement, all you have to do is read the others review. It's clear to say that your "staff member" embellished the particular encounter. For what reason, not sure. However, other individuals have written about their negative experience. One could say that you're trying to save your image by making a BS statement to make you look better. That's very distasteful.

Horrible Customer Services. No matter if you cancel the contract, sign all the required documents, they will still chHorribler Card or Bank account and to get the money back takes forever sometimes never. Tammy, never returns phone calls and even if you leave a thousand massages she never does. I had to call my bank and pay $ 35.00 for stop payment to avoid they will keep charging me. What a dissapintment. It is not even the amount they charged after i canceled the account, it is the Principal !!!! For all the reviews i read I see it is not the first time they doing this. This is not your high end gym but there are many pros to that. First is of course the lower cost! There is less judgement, more real people of all body types and ages (adorable golden oldies included). Other gym users are pleasant. Some of the staff are wonderful some are just average in customer service skills. The classes are good with plenty to choose from. Morning and evening classes are available. The teachers are skilled and friendly, some more skilled others more friendly.

I had no problem with the gym until I moved away and had to cancel. I moved, sold my car and haven't been back to the gym or anywhere near the area in two months that I have now been charged for. I called initially and wanted to cancel and they told me I would have to come in to fill out a cancellation form, very difficult for someone who moved away and sold their car. I called again after I got charged for the second month in a row of not using the gym and after I already called to tell them I cancelled and was told it's my fault for not coming in to finish the cancellation, great customer service if you ask me. Now they are telling me I can e-mail them to TRY and have it resolved. Overall, good gym, horrible customer service and all this does is make it seem like the owners and staff give people who want to cancel the run around until they can squeeze a few more payments out of them. $60 I'll never get back now.

I had a great experience at this gym. The classes were great, the gym is clean and offers plenty of equipment. I even did personal training for several months with wonderful results.

The two star rating is because when I moved away from the area I called to cancel my membership. I was told that I had to come in and fill out a form. They would not mail me the form and I could not send in a written request that was not on the form. Requiring someone to drive out of their way to fill in a cancellation form is ridiculous. In the past I recommended this gym to several people, but since this is my final impression, I will now speak out against it to friends still in the area.

Decent gym offering childcare and a fair amount of classes if that's what you're into. The gym equipment, while plentiful, is worn and outdated. Monday through Wednesday after work its always a fight for bars, benches, and machines... its incredibly over crowded and the cleanliness begins to deteriorate rapidly. This is at no fault of the gym really they just cant keep on top of the sheer number of people who fail to clean up after themselves. The staff has always been nice and i haven't had any issues with management thus far. Monthly fee's are only 19.99 a month (assuming you sign up for year) which are very low in comparison to other gyms in the area. The exception being planet fitness which i honestly can't really consider to be a gym.

To wrap things up i give it three stars, on the up side it has a variety of equipment for both weight training and cardio, the staff is friendly and helpful, and you cant beat their asking price for membership. The down side is its very over crowded, the cleanliness and overall atmosphere has plenty of room for improvement, and the equipment is dated and worn out.

I would still recommend this gym to anyone in the area, especially those looking for fitness on a budget.

I couldn't disagree more with the review given by 'Google User'. My wife and I joined the gym 12 month ago and we are both very happy. Both Craig ( the owner) and Tammy (the manager) are very helpful and very nice. The facilities are clean and the equipment are always up to date. I workout with the weights from time to time and there's never any issue with insufficient weights. (There are tons and tons as weights sitting around. I don't understand what the other reviewer is saying. The gym also have lots and lots of cardio machines of all types.) I used to belong to 3 other gyms in the area and I think NJH&F is by far the best gym. My wife and I were shocked to see saw such a negative review. I am sorry, Mr. Google User, I strongly disagree with your statements made relative to NJH&F.
