Not sure how this place has 5 star reviews. When I went there every was hogging the machines and using their phones for a very long time. Double using machines not letting people who actually want to workout use it. A repair guy was trying to fix a machine in the way. Senior citizens sitting on the machine for a long time not even working out. Creepy men just staring at you. The machines are old and rusty and almost broken like. No staff on the 2nd floor to monitor anything. Kids in groups using machines giggling. So many treadmills and not enough benches for the strength section. Absolutely chaotic.

First time visiting this gym . I'm from out of town so visited this one. I love the size of the place and the staff was really cool. What I didn't really enjoy is the space. The location where the dumbbells are is very limited and very cramped. On off hours it would be fine but some of us don't have the luxury. The shower rooms and tanning booths are utterly filthy and revolting—hands down the most disgusting Planet Fitness I’ve ever stepped foot in. The staff are lazy, rude, and completely unprofessional. They don’t bother greeting members or cleaning the facility, too busy chatting among themselves or glued to their phones. A tall black guy at the front desk was blatantly disrespectful and dismissive. When I pointed out the unacceptable mess, he had the audacity to claim he “has no time to clean” while scrolling on his phone the entire time. This place is a disgrace. Basic amenities like hair dryers, weight scales, and paper towels are nowhere to be found in the shower facilities, unlike every other decent gym. Save your money and avoid this dump at all costs!

This gym has been going downhill for so long my daughter always comes home frustrated. I’ve accompanied her multiple times to see myself and I’ve already cancelled her membership. The assistant manager that helped me had no name tag on but introduced herself as Karen. She seemed to be distracted arguing with her other employee and served me no help at all. This planet fitness used to be a decent gym until everything started to stop working. Every time I come in their massage chairs don't work, they're down or they're being repaired. Not to mention the manager who can't do his job. Constantly on his phone at the desk or giving people attitudes. And god forbid you ask about the repairs. He will respond with a "Yes I'm sorry it'll happen soon it's out of my control" and then roll his eyes when you leave, I witnessed it myself. Best Planet fitness in the area. I am from Belleville and live around the corner from the Planet fitness in town however it is very mismanaged, this Planet Fitness in Clifton is worth the commute, staff are always friendly, not as unsettling scenes, everything is always clean, and even the people are much more respectful. No pressure, just progress.

I have upgraded this to 4 because apparently someone is listening at least a little bit.

- The shower heat controls that were broken for about a year have finally been fixed.
- The torn shower curtains have been replaced.
- They Hydro Massage machines all seem to be working now after weeks of issues.

-There are still issues with people using the 30 minute circuit as just another machine that then can do 4 or 5 sets on without moving

I have not checked the following:
1 leg press machine's seat is broken. Both seated hamstring curl machines have been broken for months.

As a long time black card member I have been to many different planet fitness gyms. As well as many other high quality gyms. I'm stating this because I have been in the fitness world for many years.
I want to start by saying that this gym is usually one of the cleanest ones I have been to and I've never had a bad encounter with the staff. The equipment is decently maintained compared to other gyms. The fact that the workout area is on the second floor and locker rooms and water fountains are downstairs is inconvenient.

But the real reason I decided to leave a review today is because of what I'm witnessing. Staff seems to only enforce rules at their convenience. There are signs everywhere stating " no personal training of any kind", " phone conversations in lobby only" "please return equipment ".... if you've been to a planet fitness you know all the signs they have everywhere. Over the past 2 months at least I have been coming to this pf the same time on average 3 times a week. There's one guy that spends the entire time he's there on FaceTime and moans like he's having sex. Today I complained to staff because this has been going on for weeks every time I'm there and not only is it rude,inconsiderate, against the rules, but it interferes with others workouts. If i hear you moaning like that over my headphones turned up its a distraction. When I expressed my concerns to a team member, before I could even describe the man I got told they knew who I was talking about because they received other complaints about him. I said ok well what can be done. I got told he's a personal trainer and he's on FaceTime with clients. Which makes no sense because the man he's on FaceTime with is only ever just sitting there watching him workout, the guys workout and form are definitely not that of a personal trainer, and if he's the personal trainer why would someone be watching him workout? So I said the the rules of planet fitness is that phone conversations are supposed to be in the lobby only and not be on FaceTime for your entire workout. Secondly there's supposed to be no personal training of any kind at the gym. I was told since he's not technically training someone in the gym that that rule couldn't apply to him. I expressed once again how distracting and inconsiderate this guy's behavior is and if I'm not the only one complaining there's a problem. I got told "I'll see what I can do" . Hopefully the rules will be enforced equally across the board so that one person isn't shown favoritism over others considering we all pay the membership fees.

This is the first gym outside of my normal home gym in Hackensack. While nice and a scale above with locker room finishes, I couldn't breathe on the second floor. I cancelled my 24hr membership in paramus because they had the treadmills on the 2nd floor mezzanine. My conclusion, running on the 2nd floor is harder than running outdoors. I run 3miles a day in Hackensack and could barely get through a 1.5mi here. Everything is crammed in making areas crowded quick.

I have been to various Planet Fitness locations across the country, and have also tried other gyms including Lifetime, YMCA, 24 hour, etc. This particular gym is the worst I’ve been to, even worse than other Planet Fitness locations. It’s like they try to make going to the gym as inconvenient and unpleasant as possible. The bathrooms are rarely cleaned, showers practically unusable, and ten minutes before closing they blast alarms not once or twice but constantly, so we all have to leave early. I understand staff want to leave on time, and I would be okay with a brief 10- or 5- minute warnings, but it is super annoying when you’ve mustered up the strength after a long work day to have a quick gym session, only for it to be interrupted with constant alarms that early. Right after charging the annual fee, they started blasting their subpar music so loudly that I could barely hear my music through my high end noise cancelling headphones. The gym is also small and equipment is limited and old, and obviously staff don’t care. If you’re looking for a gym in the area, don’t sign up here, go to LA fitness right next door. This place is truly not worth it especially now with the basic membership being $15 instead of $10.

This location deserves a lot of praise for its very friendly staff. This is one of the most cordial and relaxed gyms I've attended.

However, complaints about the cleanliness and broken equipment are justified. Many of the machines suffer from a lack of upkeep, with damaged seats and rep clocks. Hooks are missing from the machines so often that I finally just starting bringing my own. Wait times for the most popular equipment can be long, so the staff might consider purchasing more of them, namely the chest flyes and assisted pull-ups. At least one urinal in the men's room is always broken and plumbing seems to be a real problem.

Overall, I like this location and don't want to be too negative, but with just a bit more attention to upkeep and cleanliness, this place could be perfect!

Try to come here at least four days a week. Always consistent. On the week days I always see Dylan helping out newcomers and train in classes. The managers always appear professional and stand out. Always see staff clean and replace supplies often. They don't have protein snacks as often as I prefer but that is very minor in comparison. Always feels lively in this location and would rather come here than other locations.

I have been coming here for almost two years now, now working out five to six days a week. I still feel everything is as good as it was when I first started my fitness journey. This is still my favorite location despite also going to other locations. You need to start doing a better job of repairing the machines. Every day, there’s someone mopping and vacuuming while the gym is open, yet the same machines have been ripped and torn for literally three months. Bacteria can build up on these surfaces, and simply wiping down the rubber isn’t enough to clean it properly. I pointed this out to a staff member months ago, and still nothing has been done.

Now let’s talk about the ellipticals. One of these days, an older person is going to get hurt. I go through five machines before finding one that isn’t broken, with no signs indicating which ones are out of order. This gym has really gone downhill since I first joined. It’s a pretty simple request to repair broken equipment so that the insides of the machines aren’t exposed. I even have to wear a hoodie just to avoid contact with these areas.

The pictures below show how it’s been for many, many months. I visited the Belleville location recently, and not a single machine there was damaged. All pictures below are different machines. We pay to have a proper gym.

***response to the managements comment. You say to bring to your attention and you can give an eta on when the repairs will take place lol lol . I brought it to your workers attention three months ago. Second, you are never here. Or at least you never come out of your office. That’s part of the problem . I was the first Yelp Elite member who reviewed Clifton PF and gave 5-stars. It is my home gym even though I have a few PFs near home, since I saw its value over distance as I noted in my previous Google review.

I have been noticing the maintenance of this facility deteriorating over time. My wife kept complaining that the sinks in the women's room were so dirty, one of them was covered with a black plastic, and used papers on the floor. One of the urinals is out of order in men's room, including the same condition as the former.

Staff at the front desk are usually kind, but for some reason, I see serious issues in the maintenance and cleaning routine. Years back, I saw a senior staff teaching younger staff how to clean the equipment and the space including the mirrors and sinks, which I don't witness anymore.

I wanted to post some photos but decided not to, since they look filthy and might not be appropriate for others.

I hope these issues are addressed in timely matter.

I had to visit most of Planet Fitness within 10 miles, due to my home gym's unexpected closure. Each PF has its own pros and cons(also individually owned and maintained), but Clifton PF at Bloomfield Ave is a Gem of the Gym!

Not sure if the multi-story gym layout was designed for the facility or repurposed i am architect who did some fitness center as well), it allows for not only upscale feeling of entry but also functional distinction; the upper floor workout area gets enough sunlight and outdoor views, while black card member / shower/ locker/restroom area below are very functionally designed.

With well-thought big and small plants, interior light temperature and background music, the black member area is a place where you want to relax after working out or even before starting your day.

I am happy to be the one who can share serendipity after gym shopping. I switched, and now PF Clifton at Bloomfield Ave is my home gym.
