I was going to this location for 9 months. I found the access to be difficult (located on a busy route). Limited hours of operations (starts at 6am and not 5am which is important for me). Very small and crowded where people occupy limited equipment just sitting and staring into their phones. Some equipment is out of service. If you have an alternative location - skip this one.

Great gym! Highly recommend going there especially with all the new equipment. Also the amazing staff but especially Eduardo, he stands out; is always professional, friendly and goes out of his way to make sure everyone is comfortable. Super helpful and always give the best insights on workouts that he believes would work for you. My dad is an old man with health problems. He doesn’t drive, doesn’t speak English, and depends on me for everything—including going to the gym. I always bring him as my guest to Planet Fitness so he can stay active.

One day I forgot my gym clothes at home. I asked a staff member if my dad could start while I quickly went back. The moment I left, they kicked him out. No phone call, no compassion, nothing—just sent an elderly man outside like he didn’t matter.

This broke my heart. Planet Fitness talks about being a “Judgement Free Zone” and caring for people, but actions like this show the opposite. It’s not about the gym itself—it’s about certain staff who forget the human side of their job. My dad deserves respect, not humiliation.

I truly hope management sees this and understands that people come first before rules or money. Because no family should have to go through this.

Planet Fitness advertises itself as the “Judgment Free Zone,” but apparently the girl at the front desk missed the memo. The one with the black hair was so unprofessional - instead of greeting people, she was busy roasting customers like it was open mic night — talking trash about how people look while standing under a giant Judgment Free Zone sign. The irony was wild.
When I asked about the spa, she hit me with so much attitude you’d think I was asking her to donate a kidney. Sis, relax — I just wanted to use the massage chair, not ruin your whole career. If Planet Fitness really wants to keep its “no judgment” vibe, maybe start by checking the staff who act like Regina George at the front desk.

I’ve visited many Planet Fitness locations across the country, and the Hawthorne location stands out as absolutely exceptional. The staff is always friendly and attentive, the equipment and locker rooms are consistently clean, and there’s a genuinely positive atmosphere throughout the gym. Very busy! Take care to get here during less busy hours if you plan on getting a parking spot. Unfortunately they share a lot with the neighboring apartments, stores and storage building. I get there at 6am and somehow there are already 40 cars in the lot but 10 people in the gym. That’s not including the designated apartment parking.

If you are willing, it may be worth it (more specifically, potentially your only option) to park on Grand ave, Coolidge pl or May st and walk the quarter to a half mile to the gym. Street parking availability will vary.

But trust me, from 5pm to 8pm you will be fighting people just to park and go to the gym.

I was a regular member (5-7 times a week) at this location for almost two years, and while the gym itself is spacious, clean, and well-kept, the overall experience was consistently frustrating, mostly due to poor staff interactions and lack of basic management support.

Let’s start with the staff: not all of them are rude, but far too often, interactions feel passive-aggressive or just flat out rude — and it depends entirely on which employee is behind the desk. If you’re using amenities like tanning, expect to be treated like a burden for asking someone to, well… do their job. One time I interrupted an employee who was texting to request tanning access, and the employee gave no instructions or follow-up questions regarding time duration or delay— only for me to arrive and find the bed wasn’t even turned on. Another time, my app was loading slowly at check-in, and the employee tapped her nails on the desk and rolled her eyes at me. Who does that? and why would anyone pay money for that? That kind of behavior adds up, and it makes walking into the gym feel more hostile than welcoming. To be clear, those are just two small examples — I’ve had months of interactions that reflect the same unprofessional, at times downright disrespectful and unprofessional attitude.

Parking is another disaster. Ever since a nearby apartment complex was built, parking has become nearly impossible during peak hours — even when the crowd meter is low. Despite this being a known issue, management has made no effort to enforce or monitor parking policies, so if you work a standard 9-5, you’ll likely be circling for a long time or just out of luck so do not even waste your time.

If you’re trying to use floor space for mats or dumbbells, good luck — the layout offers almost no room for that, and I once nearly got hit with a dumbbell from someone else due to how cramped and chaotic the free weight section is.

After finally switching to another gym, I realized just how much I had been settling. If you’re serious about your fitness, want to actually use the amenities included in your membership, and prefer basic courtesy from staff, I suggest you look elsewhere because this is NOT the place for that.
