I used Planet Fitness for 2 years in Manhattan (I went to 3 different clubs there) and had no major issues. I stopped working out for like a year. After moving to Jersey City, I signed up again at this Hoboken location and was very disappointed.

The machines here are limited and in poor condition compared to other clubs. I only went 3 times before deciding to cancel. When I spoke with Matthew Kwasnik about the situation, he wasn’t supportive at all—no apology, no effort to resolve the issue—just insisted that I’d still be charged for the month. His attitude was unfriendly, which probably explains why the staff here often seem unhappy too.
If you’re only looking for the absolute bare minimum in a gym, this location might work for you. But if you expect even the standard, basic machines you’d find in most gyms, this is NOT THE PLACE to sign up.
Very disappointed. I won’t be coming back to Planet Fitness.

Please do something about people playing on their phone (or typically watching movies). I can't quite figure out if this is an internet cafe or gym. Also, the people slamming weights, and the young men working out in groups bragging about getting into fights and dealing with the police. This all goes against PF policy.

The gym reopened with half the machines they had before and the most mind boggingly dumb layout. Machines are hidden around corners and like machines are separated, so if it's leg day or arm day or whatever, be prepared to get your daily steps in running all over the gym from machine to machine. Its also very frustrating when people are camping on machines for 20 plus minutes while watching videos so you have to run back downstairs to do a different machine, then upstairs to check, and they are still watching their movie, then repeat. There are some machines positioned right in front of the windows on street level and passerbys like to make extended eye contact with you while you workout - not awkward at all. Some privacy film on those street level windows would make a lot of difference.

But good news the cardio machines, they have all been upgraded and are quite nice, so that's a win.

I was a loyal Planet Fitness member for over 10 years at the Hoboken location. In late May 2025, I moved from New Jersey to Arizona. During my last visit to the Hoboken club, I asked to cancel in person and was told it had to be done online. I followed their instructions and submitted a cancellation request via the PF website on May 31 , but never received a confirmation.

On June 2, I was charged $52.25 for an annual fee. I immediately called to explain I had relocated out of state and was unemployed, but they said my membership was still “active” and refused to issue a refund. Despite my explanation, they added a $15 late fee, bringing the total to $67.25 , and continue calling and texting me to collect it.

Adding insult to injury, I received a generic email thanking me for being a member and inviting me to continue using the gym until June 16, which I obviously cannot, as I live 2,000+ miles away. Had the in-person staff helped me cancel before my move or escalated the issue, this could’ve been resolved peacefully.

I've since disputed the charge with my bank and submitted a formal complaint to the BBB. Very disappointing and impersonal treatment from a company I supported for a decade. Even when the club was closed for months for remodeling or when travelling overseas for months at a time.
Is that the way to reward long-time customers PF?
I am not giving you one start , but two as the promise and delivery for the past 10 years was great.

I had cancelled my membership here after almost 2 years of not showing up and still paying. I finally went in to cancel one day and was given confirmation for which I signed a consent form. The employee told me I had a few weeks to use their services as I had just paid the monthly. Cool

Fast forward a few weeks and I'm charged again! I called to figure out why I'm still being charged. The receptionist tells me there's no history of my cancellation. Only that my account was looked at a month ago. I inform her that yes I was there to cancel and she rudely tells me I was not. I then tell her that camera footage of the day would show I was there. She then begins to tell me how that will take months and they don't do refunds.

Even though I followed the proper steps I'm now having to put in additional time and effort to cancel a subscription I haven't been using but paying to for 2 years. I then try to cancel with her and she says no I have to come in or do it online. But I already went in a month ago. She then says to call back in 3 days to talk to manager. Terrible customer service

It’s really small and only one bathroom for everyone in here. No locker room, no showers. I came in before work to get a quick workout and a rinse but there was no shower. Since I paid an hour for parking I decided to still try to work out as best as I could but the sun was beaming in the only small stretching area they have so I had to stop so I wouldn’t sweat too much since I couldn’t rinse off. Most likely won’t be coming back to this location. I enjoy the privacy of a locker room and more space. This club gives me anxiety just working out on top of each other basically. No need to reply PF. I will not be taking my concerns to the front desk. There’s nothing you can do to address my concerns.

Complete disaster of a “remodel” All they had to do was add the massage area on the left and put a ramp on the right and keep things exactly as they were. Standard 30 minute workout area gone, all treadmills and cardio gone off the 1st floor. Tiny reception desk, all to make room for the massage area?? I just started going to the gym. The gym itself isn't bad, it's clean. But the employees at the front desk are not customer oriented. On Saturday, February 8, I spent over an hour at the front desk just to check in, the app was crashing. And the employees didn't want to issue me a membership without the app, through the website and suggested I come back another day or call the office on Monday. I don't really understand what they do all day that they can't issue a membership, with every visitor wiping down the exercise equipment behind them. On Monday I asked about the cryo-chair, I had to ask three times as they were busy talking amongst themselves. What is their purpose? It is quite possible to get by with automatic locks and one guard and janitor.

Skip this club altogether no real renovations even though they just remodeled, same old machines with newer software slightly more space. Never parking at this location. My problem like many others is the cancellation policy. I literally just came back from there all I needed to do was change my e mail log in well Karen from front desk informed me that I was late on payment and to top it off their would be another fee to unfreeze the membership. When asked how can I cancel she said you have to pay your balance first. The money wasn't the issue but Karen's attitude sure was. Enough to say bye to this membership and go to the nearby Crunch fitness. You get what you pay for in this case the rude customer service even came with a price tag. Thanks but no thanks. Came here today for the 1st time after renovation and was shocked at the layout? Unfortunately If you can imagine the Worst possible layout for this space, then they succeeded at doing that :( Where to begin? No treadmills on 1st floor as before, so handicap and others are out of luck unless they can climb the steep stairs to the 2nd floor. And basic back, tricep machines are missing now that were there before and should be there that every other PF has? So Complete disaster of a layout on 1st floor and 2nd floor as well. On the 2nd floor Cardio machines all facing Away from the windows now? And the few resistance machines are awkwardly set up scrunched up in a tiny space in front of treadmills in the center? Front desk is also extremely tiny but black card amenity section was expanded greatly which takes up most of the space on the 1st floor. Only real upgrade’s are the locker rooms? Sadly will not be coming here as before.

Smallest, most cramped planet fitness I've been too. Has almost all the typical PF equipment, but def squeezed in. Also, gets pretty busy, so have to come really, really early, or during the day. Staff is fine and the rest of typical planet fitness.

Update (July 2024): Staff are still good, but this location has become garbage. It is way too small, and there are just too many people to accommodate. You have to wait for basically everything. Pointless to come in the afternoons, but even at 6am, it's difficult to not have to constantly adjust your workout, or skip certain planned reps/sets. Plus, the summers are free for teens, which means that you have a bunch of kids in here just messing around.

You get what you pay for, and I am finally moving on. I got in an altercation this morning because someone knocked into me while I was holding heavy weights and proceeded to tell me it was my fault for being in the way. I could have been severely injured because of the trash clientele that cheap gym memberships attract.

This is a one star review because I can't do 0, this s place has multiple health code violations, the air vents are literally clogged with dust. As well after changing my payment details, and having a free month credit, which planet fitness said would be credited for next month, they are still charging my old bank account. This has caused a string of events that had severely set me back financially. After speaking to the branch manager, he was not in the next day when he said he would be. This morning, I just got charged again after I was just charged 2 weeks ago and a late fee..... Stay away at all costs I have proof of everything.

Had some work in Hoboken and decided to use the facility for a week or so.

It feels small but that's because it's layered. I would say it's compact but the space is used nicely. I only used the cardio on the 2nd floor, but I walked around. The first floor has the weights and the 2nd floor had the cardio. The bathroom was clean and nothing was broken. Clean lockers were a huge plus. The staff was very nice and welcoming. I enjoyed my time at this location.

Solid choice for the price and location. Clean, inexpensive, and not too crowded. It's rare that you have to wait for a machine and even then, I've never had to wait more than a few minutes for the more popular ones.

While the lack of barbells will always keep me loyal to other gyms, this is a good, backup gym for those days where you want a quick workout and don't necessarily want to drive out of Hoboken (we live 5 minutes away by foot, for reference).

You get what you pay for! Cheap cheap cheap. Holes in the ceilings and walls. insane amount of wear and tear on benches. Packed to the absolute brim with novice gym goers with zero concept of personal space or gym etiquette. Extreme amateur / college kid gym bro vibes. Honestly feel horrible for any woman who has to use this gym. Extremely hostile male vibes everywhere. Iv seen cheerier staff at correctional facility’s. The list goes on. Judgement free zone unless you’re a paying customer, then it’s kinda hard not to notice! Be warned and come of your own volition.

P.s. please do not respond asking me to speak with the manager. You’re a multi million dollar business. Not the most approachable or friendly employees in the Hoboken location. Some of the staff including managers look unhappy to be there and don’t want to be bother. I didn’t even get a tour of the gym when I joined. I went in to sign up using my heath insurance but they gave me the run around when I wanted to upgrade my membership even though some other members in that location have done the same. One of the managers told me to call my heath insurance to see how I could upgrade it but when I called my health insurance they were saying that’s something you would have to talk to planet fitness about. I canceled my membership the next day because of this.

The only good thing I can say about this location is the convenience of this location. I wrote a review with pictures months ago in regards to the constantly dirty female restroom. The manager emailed me personally and from then on it was clean. However, today Monday June 26th (9:29 a.m.) I called and spoke with Eddie in regards to being charged twice for this month, because one they didn't take the money out on the actual date which is the 17th of every month for me. They took out the money three days later which didn't go through. So I made a manual one-time payment. Late last night I was charged again, I was trying to explain that to Eddie over the phone and he put me on hold without even saying anything, very unprofessional. And then a lady took over with the same unprofessional attitude. They weren't trying to listen to my situation, they were only responding to what they wanted to hear. Look, the location and price you can’t beat in Hoboken. But equipment is always dirty, random equipment will be broken or loose (the bikes on the bottom floor are hit or miss). There’s also been dried poop in the male bathroom stall for the past two weeks. A broken sink for who knows how long. And the water fountain doesn’t work.

They run periodic deals for kids to get them engaged which is great, but they have a limited capacity and minimal equipment which makes it difficult to get what you want when you want it. Does the trick. I lived about a ten minute walk from this PF during the pandemic, and used it quite frequently for about 3 years. For the most part the staff is always professional and patient. Only problem I truly ever had was trying to explain that limiting the stationary bikes was a bit of a pain since they already had the least units of all the cardio equipment. To that I got sort of a prolonged stare and shrug. Also, all of the bikes are recumbent, I don’t know if that’s to promote a more welcoming atmosphere for old folks who like to ride stationary bikes, but it seems silly to not have at least a handful of regular stationary bikes too. Otherwise, as other reviewers have said, my main issue came with other members. This is HOBOKEN, going anywhere here one expects to be met with a wave of transplant-based entitlement, many times I encountered old gents who just threw their stuff anywhere rather than using a locker. Staff is pretty receptive to asking people to not do that, but they certainly don’t police it on their own, so that’s on you.

At first it was a okay now is just filled with young kids and boogies, not cool went from adult gym to boys & girls club cannot get one workout done, have to go after 12 a.m.

I was pretty disappointed with the customer service here. The gal at the front desk was attempting to help me make this my home gym, which I wound up having to do on my own anyway, all the while another guy at the desk was very short with her and made me feel like I was being an inconvenience. They never gave me a tour of the facility or told me about any classes like most PF do. This will be my home gym as it’s just down the street from me, but I’ll probably be using other gyms in the city. I wasn’t impressed with the layout or CS

No mirrors in the whole gym (only few behind the treadmills) and the temperature is really high usually between 72-74 which is a lot when working out.

Terrible management. I was unable to go the gym due a medical condition. When I tried to cancel my membership and ask for a refund, these guys asked for my medical documentation and then simply disappeared. Even after submitting everything and following up constantly for months they didn’t respond. I submitted everything first to Alex, the manager there and then to Michelle Rose. Highly frustrating and disappointing that they want medical records and then ghost me.

Just joined but wow place looks amazing and smells so clean which is a major difference from the previous gym I was at. The parking is a huge added plus and the hours for 11 dollars a month it is worth it, now time to get busy and get that summer body ready

Hello, I think the machine layout of the gym is wrong. Although there are not enough mirrors, the existing mirrors are behind the treadmills. As you know, we need to check ourselves in the mirror while working. However, this is currently not possible. Machine distribution needs to be redone, treadmills need to be placed in front of the window and other platforms need to be moved in front of the mirror. There are also a lot of treadmills but the cable tool is just one.

It’s fine. Does the trick. Just rush hours are a pain in the butt.

Tip - have the staff walk around and correct people who have ZERO etiquette. Mostly older folks and clueless jerks. Case and point this older man who was on a Smith for the entirety of my workout (50 minutes) just came to a tread and put his things on the tread next to him for storage.

It sucks when the members have to police other members.
