I know there's bad apples in every bag, but what about the good ones, at least, let us park for 2 hours to do some workouts, get a shower and be on our way to keep serving our country with all the goods that can only be moved by trucks, including gym equipment.

going to the gym since it opened, I've used several planet fitness locations

I find this location to be clean. I find a staff to be fantastic. My only complaint is a lack of equipment. The gym is in a highly populated city, and it gets crowded as expected.

I find myself looking to join an alternate gym, though I like this one because I cannot get my workouts in. They're only two sets of each weight in dumbbells if that makes sense.

People hog the weights where they keep a set of 10 pound 15 pound and 20 pounds out the bench and there were only two sets of everything

There is only one chest fly machine where people wait in line to use and only one assisted pull-up machine

This facility needs more equipment and should consult the Belleville location who is loaded with equipment to accommodate their large crowds

Don’t waste your time or money at this Planet Fitness.

I was in the neighborhood and decided to try this gym — big mistake. The place is poorly maintained and feels completely neglected. The showers are filthy, with visible mold on the walls and shower curtains, which are torn and haven’t been replaced for weeks. It’s honestly disgusting and unsafe.

There’s also water dripping from one of the AC units right in the middle of the gym — a total hazard. It feels like both the staff and members have stopped caring about cleanliness or maintenance altogether.

If you value hygiene, safety, or even basic upkeep, stay far away. I’ll never be coming back.

This is a very large, and fully equipped gym location. Staff don't harp on the closing announcements, which is nice. However, two MAJOR problem MUST be ADDRESSED. I saw a member walking around TOPLESS with no one challenging it. LAST but NOT least FIX THE PARKING LOT. There are CRATERS throughout the LOT which can damage my car. This is UNACCEPTABLE In 2025..

I don't think it is fair that they have an old sir doing the whole cleaning of the gym and multiple tasks. I know that is his job and he is supposed to and i'm glad that he has a job, but he is doing all the work to keep this gym clean, where they have three young people at the front desk which are not doing nothing, who can help him. And I know it is not supposed to be like that because I've seen other pf's where there's different workers doing different tasks. They just need teamwork and not just one person doing the whole job.

I want to thank the owners who when they found out about the hot water problem in mens bathroom immediately sent plumbers to fix the water heater. The gym is huge with plenty of equipment. Free weights, machines, treadmills and elipticals. Very clean as workers are non stop constanly cleaning everything. The air conditioning during the hot summer was really great. You never ever have to wait for a treadmill. The on site manager in the morning is very nice and is very dilligent about the upkeep of the gym. This is a Great enviorment to exercise in.

If you’re looking to go to an affordable gym that’s local this is it! Compared to other commercial gyms in the area such as Blink and Retro Fitness - this gym and location has been my favorite by far. Unfortunately, the parking lot needs attention and it does take away from the gym’s external appeal (based on the gym’s responses ownership of the parking lot falls under whoever owns the plaza not the gym).

Special shoutout to Kenya who works at the gym. She does a fantastic job keeping the place clean. I’ve seen her attentively clean all areas of the gym to the point where she takes the time to lift up the ellipticals to make sure she gets to mop underneath.

Cleanliness is something I pay attention to when joining AND staying a loyal gym member given all the possible infections you can get at a gym. It really is impressive to see the care Kenya puts into her job. Other shoutouts to the front desk and the personal trainer! Both groups are always friendly and very helpful to gym goers whether it’s advising how to properly do an exercise or helping you with your account.

The gym itself is totally fine, but the parking lot is really dirty and unsafe. There are giant craters that will cause serious vehicle damage if you drive through them at the wrong angle, bits of broken glass over the pavement, semi-abandoned flatbed truck trailers, and piles of rotting trash.

Please don't respond that I should contact the club management. They already know since they go through this mess on the way to and from the building. Also, it's ridiculous to respond, as you've done on previous comments here, that the parking lot isn't the club's problem and that I should contact the site owner directly. As the tenant, it's your responsibility to ensure a safe and clean parking lot for your customers. If you can't do that, then maybe you should find a new location for your business.

Edit: why do you guys keep responding to reviews and saying that we should let staff know about the parking lot if it remains an issue? Your staff clearly sees the parking lot and drives through it every day. No one needs to contact your staff since we already left a review.

Also, you responded to a few reviews and said to reach out to the people who own the parking lot . That’s a stupid response because we are consumers of planet fitness and we are not the people who are paying rent for the parking lot. It is deeply disappointing and concerning to witness that institutions dedicated to promoting and maintaining physical and mental health are represented by individuals who show such a lack of empathy toward the public they serve.

Today, my two daughters and I experienced one of the worst displays of unprofessional behavior by a staff member named Angelina. According to her own words, she acted with the support of her supervisor. When my daughters attempted to check in at the facility, Ms. Angelina aggressively pushed away the registration machine, deliberately preventing them from using it.

Even more troubling is the fact that the manager was present during this incident and did absolutely nothing to intervene. She showed no sign of empathy or concern. To make matters worse, the incident became a source of amusement for other employees who were on duty at the time an extremely inappropriate and disrespectful reaction.

As a mother and a client, I am deeply disappointed by the hostile and unwelcoming environment this creates, especially for young people who come with the intention of taking care of their health and well-being. I sincerely hope this matter is taken seriously and that appropriate measures are taken to ensure all users are treated with dignity and respect.

I rarely leave reviews, but after multiple bad experiences, I feel compelled to share. The facilities at Planet Fitness are decent, but the management is extremely poor. Staff members often seem disorganized and untrained, and any concerns brought to their attention are either dismissed or ignored entirely. It was a great gym at ine point. When Georgette was the manager it was maintained and manage with professionalism and every complaint handle with coutesy and in a timely matter. However, the gym now up keeping is poorly. They have teens who hangs out around the machine holding it up and not working out. Handicap parking has been utilized by PF staff without handicap plates or decal showing on their windows. Wish I have witness myself. I will be canceling my membership. The rudeness of staff members are unacceptable and unprofessional.

The facility itself is wonderful. Very clean, friendly staff, nice large space. The parking lot on the other hand… It looks like an abandoned mine field. It’s a challenge driving in and out of the lot, truly. You could cause serious damage to your vehicle if you aren’t careful. I am shocked whoever owns this facility would let this lot fall this far into disarray. Especially considering how difficult it is to reach this location without a vehicle. I love this planet fitness because it’s huge and clean and the staff is extremely friendly. However, I have to take the time to mention how horrible the parking lot is. There are truly so many pot holes it’s impossible to avoid going through them, especially because there is only one exit right now with the construction happening. As of recently, this gym has been smelling really bad. I've been going to this gym for over a year and hadn't encountered this issue until the last few weeks. The second I enter the gym, I get the worst whiff of bad body odor. I've even mentioned it to workers and they seem unaffected. Like, I know you can smell that intense onion stench.

There's a group of men in the gym who every time they're in the gym leave the place smelling bad — especially in the stretching room. I know the workers can't single people out, but in that case I do think they should have air freshener or something to get that smell out.

The stretching room is a tight space with no vents, so that smell lingers. I haven't been able to go in there for weeks because the smell is awful. Sometimes I'll see the stretching room is empty and wonder why. When I walk in, the smell is so horrendous and there's only one person in there with the BO. No wonder it's empty!

Despite this, I do think the workers are proactive in cleaning machines, but perhaps the team should take an extra step to spraying the area whenever it gets super hot in there.

I became a member of this gym a month later I had a back injury. After hospital I went for physical therapy. My physical therapy ended in June. I went back to the gym to n July,I was told my gym membership was in collections. I lost my wallet in may had to cancel all my cards. I forgot to notify the gum of this. Sometimes when you’re in pain you will forget these things. Employees working at this gym should have contacted me via email phone or regular mail. How do you send a member to collection without notifying them? This is very unprofessional! Ms Georgia and Ms Marie informed me that I can get another membership for 15.00 a month my membership was 10.00 a month . I informed her that I am a senior don’t have 15.00 a month. How do you send a member to collection without a notice. Shame on planet fitness!

Great spot the gym is in. Definitely need to work on maintaining the facilities and equipment better, especially the showers. I do wish it stayed open later than 11pm, I work even shift some days and would rather go there after I get off which is less than 5 minutes from me than to drive to the one in Bayonne which is about 10-15 minutes. It's seems every time I want to use the hydro Beds in the evening they always seem to be out of order. The Young kids they hire seem to be so rude with mean faces when you walk into the club. Avoid if you’re a runner! All PF locations recently switched out their treadmills for Matrix machines and they are absolutely awful. A quick search on Reddit and you’ll find tons of other runners who feel the same and who are considering leaving their PF if they haven’t already. Hopefully it’ll get corporates attention at some point and they’ll switch back to the old brand (I think lifefitness?). It feels like trying to run through sand.

A few other things: the water fountain doesn’t work. They play the music so loud that you can hear it over your own headphones even if you have them turned all the way up. There are no free weights in the room with the mats, so if you want to do floor work you have to either do it in the weightlifting area or haul weights all the way from the other side of the building.

It gets pretty crowded at times.
The worst thing is people just don’t respect the 30 min workout area. It is almost impossible to follow the 30 min workout as people occupy machines and keep doing reps forever. They also keep moving the stuff based on their own will.

I’m overall enjoying the gym so far—equipment is new, pretty spacious, locker room is clean. Four things would get things to the next level:
1) Parking lot needs to be resurfaced. Seriously it’s like driving on the surface of the moon and it’s very confusing where to enter and exit the lot. (In fairness, there is construction happening on the lot next door, so maybe it’s a work in progress).
2) Keeping weights re-racked. It would be good to have staff periodically make the rounds to get dumbbells re-racked. People just take them to work out in other parts of the gym and don’t bring them back. Good luck finding a pair of 25lb weights at peak hours. You gotta go hunting for them. Either PF needs to do more to get the weights back where they belong or we’re just going to need more weights in the 15 to 50lb range.
3) Periodic wipe downs of the bathrooms. I can only speak to the men’s room, but people do make a mess. Before and maybe once during peak hours, having someone wipe down the surface around the sinks and mop the floors would keep things a little nicer. It’s gross coming in to wash my hands and the counters are all wet.
4) Hand sanitizer dispensers. PF does have spray bottles and paper towels to wipe down equipment, but I’d like a little hand sanitizer to keep myself clean after touching a bunch of equipment too.

5/15/2024 Today I went to the gym and the doors were closed at 5:22 AM when they are supposed to open at 5am. A person went to the door to check if anyone was inside and couldn't see anyone. There were many people waiting in the parking lot for the doors to open and many of them would have left. You can't play with people's time, because it takes a lot of sacrifice to pay for a gym and get up to train every day in the morning. I hope they can take action against this or else I will be forced to cancel my membership with planet fitnes. .

Crowded. Half the people wipe of their machines. Some of the people working out here are very obnoxious singing out loud, playing their own music loud and dropping weights. Bathrooms were decently cleaned. One of the trainers had a lady sitting on one machine for about 20 mins in the 30 minute workout area as they just casually chatted. So annoying. I the parking lot is trashy. Front desk people were friendly tho. Will not be back .

Asked about shower curtains missing. Manager stated they were being ordered.this was a month ago.
What actually happened is they removed 1 of the 2 shower curtains so now all showers only have one curtain.
Quick to be dismissive unless it’s convenient for their end of the month goal numbers(sales).
As much as they try to force me to transfer to this location, I will not until they start treating us like paying customers.

These pictures are of 3 different showers in the men’s locker room.
This location refuses to add anymore than 1 shower curtain.(considering ALL planet fitnesses have TWO shower curtain barriers for privacy)
There are no hooks to hang your towel or clothes change so you’re forced to hang them on the pole with the filthy shower curtains.

Management is dismissive and lower position employees get a rush from doing leg work for management(calling out members for late payments and policies.this location itself doesn’t follow corporate standards and needs reformation or retraining of staff).

Parking lot is very similar to a nightclub parking lot.glass shattered all over the ground and massive potholes right next to water bottles filled with urine.

To all employees, get yourself a job you actually enjoy and can sustain your living because this company just isn’t it and customers can tell you’re not being taken care of. It’s a trickling down effect.

Worker with yellow shirt jose cussed out a young little kid and workers are extremely rude and disrespectful, + they turn off the water fountain so people can buy the water upfront and the drinks which causes members to be dehydrated. Honestly terrible gym do not suggest coming here.

I like it here. A good gym with nice equipment. I enjoy going during not so busy hours. It's a good enough space but can be crowded. Would be great if they could fix the water filter. There's only one and it's broken and has been for quite a while. The TV screens show the same things. Would be great if they showed other options, instead of 3 TVs next to each other showing the same things. For basic things, it's a good place

Update. 2 months later. Water is not working again. Just one of the basic necessities of the gym that is very looked over. And then will expect you to buy water……..

I enjoy this gym site and I’ve been to many from NC to NJ. Only issue I have is in the back narrow room off to the side it always smells like marijuana. Like if people go off the back room off the side of the narrow room and smoke. But besides that. I enjoy this site.

It’s alright… you get what you pay for. I wish there were some weights in the room with the mirrors. I’m always looking around for sanitation sprays because there does not seem to be enough on the floor. Wish there was more mirrors with benches because they are always taken up. Parking is good but parking lot has a lot of pot holes so be careful.

I wish I could give this Gym 0 stars. Planet Fitness in Route 440 it's a scam. I transferred my membership from PF Bayonne to Jersey City (a huge mistake) in March 2023. Then I asked to upgrade my membership to a black card. These people charged me the yearly fee twice. I spoke several times with the only manager in this establishment named GEORGERTTE. THIS LADY GEORGETE HAS NO CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS AND IS EXTREMELY RUDE AND SARCASTIC. I had to pay $100 to be able to terminate my membership and I have never received an apology from them, even though this was their mistake. This place does not have a real manager, there is no one competent to complaint with.

The employees at the desk are very nice and friendly. The gym is clean and not too crowded when I have gone. Unfortunately, can't rate higher than a 3 due to the amount of broken machines and the busted parking lot.

Big location sure, but machines break and stay broken for weeks on end.

Parking lot was tolerable when they opened in colder weather, we get it but summer came and went and they still haven’t repaired these massive pot holes all over???? Nor is it ever, ever cleaned. Garbage, trash, bottles, gross. The wind is not a cleaning agent fam.

The free high schooler workout thing is wild but I get it, it’s marketing. How about you make it $10 a month for them and you’d get the more serious ones, not everyone in all local high schools after 2pm. It’s literally like parents can get rid of their kids for the afternoon but the public has to deal.

Lastly, and this drives me insane - both water fountains (in a single bay) for this massive location has been out of service for literal months. The employees and management I ask about it don’t care. No creative thinking. How did two machines break at once? Can’t you call a service person? These aren’t custom machines…. Athletic areas need water to rehydrate/recover. If corporate is dragging their feet to fix or send replacements, push them to install a temporary solution instead of being fully stocked on pricey Aquafina that are destroying our environment and most of us don’t want to buy…..

Also management if members bring things up to you, don’t talk to them like they’re idiots. You’re a manager because you’re supposed to take feedback and do something with it, not sass us like we know and/or should just grin and bear it. We pay for this place and all the annoyances, but some are just too annoying to keep ignoring (like the water fountains).

Finally opened and a very big location.

Asked mgmt on here to reorganize and put the garbage cans near the paper towel holders and they tried. A few more logically placed sets and this place will be perfect.

Members, can you put rerack your weights by the smith machines? It’s annoying to have to wait forever then empty the machine before use on top of it.

Also try not to do full length workouts on the smith or free weights during rush hour. You’re not paying for a private gym.

Otherwise add a few more benches in the locker room and spraying the showers out better before closing and this PF would be almost perfect.

Also staff is generally very nice!! Great work guys. Keep it up.

Lovely place to workout

Whoever designed this gym really dropped the ball on the cardio and weight machine balance, there are way more treadmills, ellipticals and other cardio machines then weight machines.

Literally only one ONE weightbar rack for the ENTIRE gym, 3 bench press machines cause the other is broken, only 3 arm resistance machines But your always waiting to hop on one of the 4 spots cause there’s only one of each different resistance mode to use, not enough chest press machines and definitely not enough free weights.

If your standing outside in front of the gym you can see they could have expanded the gym more on the right which could have been entirely dedicated to weight lifting, this place used to be a wholesale liquidation store and I def remember it being incredibly huge inside so the def closed some of the space off which doesn’t make sense to me.

The staff for the most part is ok, I don’t really interact with them other then checking in, one of the women with curly hair was helpful on getting my guest pass set up which I never did before she was nice, and the older janitor is a nice dude as well.

Locker rooms are nice and big and I never had issues with the bathrooms being dirty, people gotta understand some people are downright disgusting and will make a mess and walk away not giving a damn. I used to be a janitor for years so I know how annoying it is to maintain cleanliness, only thing you can do is constantly police the area as much as you can.

One big thing that got me upset was the water fountain not working at all, that’s a health and safety hazard right there and most people don’t bring money to gym to pay for drinks, they need to fix that ASAP before someone starts a lawsuit cause apparently it’s been broken for a while now.

Overall this isn’t a bad gym it just needs more weight machines and weights in general, it’s only a 15 min drive from my house to there and getting out of work I just get off the 1&9 bridge from Newark and it’s right there so it’s super convenient for me.

The business hours for Saturdays are suppose to be 7am-8pm.
