An absurd joke this place. I was there for approximately 45 or so. Had to leave because my ended. On the way I was searching for a bathroom because the establishment is poorly constructed. I was advised by one of the employee that it's downstairs and I could just go downstairs. In the midst of this, a second out of nowhere turned and wanted me to scan my ID again which of course I just did. Perhaps this is policy in Newark or maybe it's just a discrimination. I'll phone Planet fitness Headquarters and advised them of this.

Gym has been closed for 2 days. Wonder if we’re going to get credit. I didn’t see any notification to members that went out. Just wasted 30 mins of my day.

Update: it looks like we got a lot of new equipment which is great, the only downside is there’s placement of the cable machines. They were mostly removed from the view of the mirror so you can’t see what you’re doing when working out on most of the cable machine equipment. The pull up bars were moved downstairs, there’s only one on the main floor. Would have been great if they would have put a pull up station between the 2 big cable machines on the main floor. Looks like it was designed for that. But overall it’s a great overhaul.

I traveled 6 miles to visit this location near Newark Pennsylvania station, and initially I thought it looked like a nice facility in a nice area, but I slowly started to realize that the staff wasn’t too customer service savvy, there was some nice gentleman named Jordan and another guy that helped me with the sign in process, but in the end my experience was abruptly stopped when the elderly lady manager who didn’t disclose her name at the beginning of our conversation didn’t allow my guest to enter, after all we did to get in and even purchasing a black membership she didn’t allow my little brother in. She presented unsatisfactory customer service experience and idk how she is a manager at this place when she was so nasty and mean to us. I was appalled by this conduct and said I wouldn’t visit this location again, being I don’t even have the chance to get in in the first place. This is unacceptable and I highly don’t recommend this location being the staff members some are ratchet. You get what you pay for.

The front desk was hostile and the manager took her job to seriously and scolded me for having multiple accounts. They asked for my ID and I have it to them and I tried to take it back and they were hesitant to give me my ID back and started asking me why I have so many accounts in collections. The manager than said I "could" have my ID back and that's when the front desk gave me my ID back. This gym is ghetto and lacks customer service

It’s an okay gym. For the amount of staff I usually see working (maybe 5-8 people), there are a decent amount of shortcomings. For example, they often are not aware of broken machines which poses a huge safety issue. Another instance: I went last night and used the bathroom, only to find no toilet paper in my stall. Okay, not a huge deal, until I went again this morning to the same stall and still found no toilet paper. At that point, the gym had been open for almost 6 hours, and no one’s attended/restocked the restrooms? I think the staff could be more attentive.

I would like to also add to my brothers review. Everything he said was true - we ran 5 miles just to find out there was no water. That was not cool like how hard is it to print out a sign and put it up so people know? It’s literally right next to a UPS printing shop. We went to a different planet fitness last month and it was night and day. Nothing was broken or missing and it was clean. I couldn’t believe my eyes I’ve been going to this one so long I thought all planet fitnesses were like this. 10/10 do NOT recommend. I’ve never left a bad review online in my life. That’s how bad it is.

This place is falling apart. There’s no water at the water fountain, it smells like death, there are long lines for almost every machine, the calf raise machine has been broken for over a month, there has been one 8lb dumbbell downstairs for over a year(i guess it’s never getting replaced), everyone steals the carabiners so you can’t even use all the machines, and half the smith machines don’t even have the thing to change the weight(meaning they can’t be used).
The staff is really nice and so are the regulars I can at least give them that but the owner should be absolutely ashamed of him or herself. If there was any other gym in my area I would happily never set foot in this place ever again.

This location REFUSES. to cancel a membership. In 2018 my son cancelled IN PERSON at the location before moving out of state- the fees kept coming out- we called- sent certified letters sent emails and they are still taking the fees out. My son no longer lives in the country and no one has been able to or is willing to help get this insanity stopped. DO NOT DO AUTO PAYMENTS WITH THIS COMPANY!

**Same as the survey** I am making a formal complaint about an employee who tried to have me pay 5 dollars for her own personal reasons. She said the club number on my account was not that of the gym although I have my membership agreement which states the appropriate club number for the Newark, NJ location. I also showed the app info that clearly stated the Newark location as the home gym. Instead of giving a viable reason as to why I should just give her 5 dollars, she stated call the prior gym. The employee refused to give a proper procedure for customer complaints or even her actual name. Thankfully I knew from prior horrible customer service her name, but this is ridiculous. My club number stated the Newark location was my home gym, so why was she trying to charge me $5? After trying but failing to receive 5 dollars she ignored my requests for her name and the acting manager refused to state her name as well. The interaction was recorded and the manager and employee acted together to try and ignore me. There was only two employees who rectified the situation by confirming the info I provided was indeed correct. Is this a scam this employee conducts on customers who do not know enough and how many customers prior has she charged without merit? Is the acting manager colluding with her to charge faithful gym customers as well? The employee name is Aneesa by the way and her attitude is horrid. The manager name was never provided but leadership should never try to help employees steal from customers.

This gym is outdated. Not only that they decided it would be a great idea to allow for high schoolers to come here as part of a program which I’m all for. The problem is they come in huge groups and take over the gym and don’t work out. Have certain times where they’re allowed at gym being that it’s a free program so it doesn’t impact other gym goers. The owner needs to do a better job and actually be attentive to his gym.

I highly discourage going to this gym. When I first called I was told by customer service that after joining the gym I would get to park for free at the garage across the street. Then after signing I was told free parking would not start until 14 days after my contract. So I waited and when I went to use the key tag it would not work. The customer service at the main desk said they wouldn’t validate my ticket because it was “my decision to enter the garage.” So when I asked what my option was, they implied to park illegally in front and then risk getting a ticket to come in and ask for help. Then I asked to speak to the manager, Mr. Wong, who conveniently was never available. I called back after leaving and was hung up on. After coming back to address this in person, Mr.Wong clearly just pretended to help and just okayed me when I requested to get my money back. And of course nothing ever happened. I don’t appreciate being in business with an establishment like this.

I enjoy the equipment and the staff. Everyone is helpful but its not the staff that is the issue. Most recently I went into the changing rooms and was confronted with a view purposely in front of me and the individual's locker was in the opposite direction. They gave full eye contact. I made a complaint and the staff on hand reassured me they would take the proper procedure to handle the situation but seriously, no one wants to see someone pointing their personal business towards the entry way. Especially if their locker is in the opposite direction. There are showers that are cleaned daily and a changing room for this stuff. I feel comfortable knowing it will be handled but no one should be confronted with this when entering a locker room.

Parking lot is always an issue. Idk what contract terms they have with the parking lot across street but it won’t read my card and I ended up paying out of my pocket. Parking staff always send you to speak to a manager at planet fitness to get the parking fee waived but PF staff don’t have a clue on how to address this issue. It’s actually not worth it to come to this gym, I ended up paying for this membership more than it’s actually should be. Very disappointed!

I've had this planet fitness membership since before quarantine and haven't had one issue UNTIL TONIGHT as I was finishing up getting dressed in the women's locker room one of their male staff members(a black young man with a blonde brush cut) comes into the women's locker room to tell me the gym is closed as I stood there half dressed he proceeds to WATCH ME as I rush to put my clothes on while I'm asking him polity to dismiss himself.. he then goes on to tell me he's gay and that means he doesnt have to dismiss himself... scoffs me and giggles while making other EXTREMELY INAPPROPRIATE remarks saying I don't have what he wants and that MANAGEMENT told him to come into the womens locker room. I asked to speak to management but nobody was available HE ALSO LAUGHED WHILE STATING THAT... Planet fitness you just can't hire any and everybody. This was an EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE SITUATION TO BE IN

The place is way too small and cramped doing peak time. Its gangs of perusing multiple machine at once and banging weights on every rep. Still I was able to get a good workout. Then I had to wait 45 minutes dealing with the parking lot. They kept asking me about a physical key card in order to exit the parking garage. This was the worst experience. I’m sure I went at a busy time of day and parking isn’t available. I will never go back. And the gym stinks .

I don't know why I chose this gym as my home gym! It was for convenience when I first joined but since the beginning of time the parking situation has been nothing but a headache! Today I am over it! Because of the parking I usually do other locations but time to time I like to try and work out closer to home, tried it this morning only to get frustrated over the parking again. There's no where to park on the streets, so I tried to park in the garage that's supposed to accommodate planet fitness members. Only to be told I would have to pay because my card wasn't working. I go inside planet fitness to get a new card. Then that one doesn't work, getting me into verbal arguments because this situation was holding up traffic trying to get into the parking garage. I'm so angry with the whole situation I don't even want to work out anymore!! My day started off great until this point!

I went in in June to cancel, followed PF’s rules and filled out the form. Didn’t cancel, went back in August and filled out the form again, didn’t cancel. Manager said she would call me multiple times, didn’t call me. Finally got her on the phone and was just screamed at, like literally she had to have been red in the face SCREAMING at the top of her lungs saying I was lying bc I still went using my friends guest pass under his black card account? Who screams in the phone and insults a customer? This planet fitness is also the most unkept one I’ve been to. A good bit of equipment is always tagged out but never fixed, the locals are meat heads who grunt and act a fool around you while staring, and the condition of the bathrooms.: I would rather use a truck stop. I’m not even kidding, absolutely vile, a friend of mine got a nasty foot infection from walking IN SOCKS on their floors and is contacting a lawyer about a lawsuit. She would only refund me for one month, instead do the 5 that’s has gone by since they failed to do their job correctly in June, and how hard is it to even work at a pf?? Like seriously, unprofessional, unfriendly, judgmental, and arrogant staff. Will never step foot in here again and will have my other 6 friends who currently attend to cancel their memberships as well. Never have I ever been spoken to so disrespectfully as the way I was on the phone call that should’ve happened 5 months ago. The gyms a joke, check out crunch fitness 5 minutes down the road, cheaper, better equipment, and more importantly, BETTER STAFF. The manager here was awful whoever she was, worst attitude.

I went, worked out and used one of the massage chairs, a perk that comes with the PF Black Card and was very content (I had a dream about getting a neck massage the night before, so it hit the spot)! Lots of high school and college aged young people use this location in the summer, so it came get a bit hectic, but I tend to concentrate and avoid the crowd in order to get in a pretty intense workout. It's a good deal and so much less expensive than any of the other chain gyms.

I went yesterday and there were MAYBE 20 people in the ENTIRE place. Made it easier to go from machine to machine in a hurry, so my workout time was about 15 shorter. Still, I got a good whole body workout in, showered dressed and left feeling good!

I almost visited all the planet fitness in NJ ones are better that others. But I have to mention something that happened in Newark NJ it dessapear my favorite towell it had llamas it was very special for me it represents animals where I born. They are so beautiful animals and I like llamas, Vicuñas, Alpacas and This animals provide materials to do warm jackets expensive jacket scarfs and many others. So that is way I love this animals.
I'm having difficult situations in my life . So I took with me this Little things that makes me at least in company.. However that little things were disappeared.
from my locker. I'm without towell since that day I do not chance my clothes day I will be one week because of it. I cried so much. I feel so sad. I asked them over and over they said maybe it's in the garbage. Why people are so mean. They are not honest and not respect others items. It's a shame. It happened two days ago. Open a locker that doesn't belongs you it's a crime. Don't abuse from people who are vulnerable in difficult situations.

If I could give this location 0 stars I would. Staff is rude and unprofessional, laughed when I told him I would need to pay for parking because they do have a clear sign in the lot that says that you need to scan a key tag and not your phones QR code. When I walked i had to wait for the staff to finish a personal conversation before I could speak to them. Additionally now that u have the key tag, it takes 14 days to activate and you are supposed to park where in those 14 days? Literally 0 professionalism, 0 help.

Good machines if isn't busy. If you have a car then parking is your biggest issue here. You can either park downtown at the meters then walk to the gym. Or use the parking garage. The parking garage is closest but it’s $18. You can get a parking keychain to scan at the entrance but it is $18 after an hour and you must be a PF home member at this location.

The gym isn't bad. Employees are friendly. You can tell, however, the gym is not managed well. Downstairs is humid and poor air circulation. Ceiling drips. There are always sanitizing spray and paper towels available for patrons to wipe down equipment and you often see employees cleaning bathroom, but it doesn't look as if they do any deep cleaning of the facility. Trying to take advantage of training is less than successful. No one knows the process. Put name in book. Pages aren't up to date, if they are, trainer isn't consistent.

UPDATE: "The owner," I have attempted to speak to the manager, to no avail. I requested their number & was told they aren't allowed to give it out. I asked to have them call me. No interest in taking my number down at all. By looks of comments over the years, this has been a LONG STANDING complaint. Sad people just buy a franchise and show no interest in its daily management.

First of all ! I went in to planet fitness signed up and due to personal reasons 3 months later I thought I had cancel my membership since I did a walk in and gave one of the works my info. Fast forward to now I signed up last week and when I came in to the gym they tell me I have a balance from my last account due to not canceling my account and I have to pay an annual fee for next month when I just started my new account !!! How am I suppose to know I’m going by the workers are telling me this is so annoying I cancel my new membership without even using it. Customer service is a 0 for me !

I went to the gym last week and there was a condon completely used in the back machine I called the employee to let them know and nobody even asked me anything I called customer service letting them know and again nobody contacted me! The manager is never available when you are trying to reach him, when you make a complaint nobody is willing to address ishowing Like they don’t care about anything I being working out for years on many gyms and this is the worse customer service and management that I ever see! If you want to fight, go overthere cause people take all the high demand machines for long periods and if you ask to the front desk person if they don’t have a certain time to use them they just ignore you saying they can’t do anything about it, last Tuesday the closed and they even let the members know that they gonna do it until next day that we saw a letter in the front door

Been going in and out of this gym. There's always something broken. The basement smells bad. The biggest problem is the staff, most of them are rude, hope you never have to visit the front desk. Make sure to cancel your membership as soon as you see you're not going consistently. Not worth it. Customer service is non-existent.

They gave me wrong information while I was singing up and after I paid they were simply refusing to what they said while I was singing up it was hardly matter of minutes before I paid and after I paid for them to change the information and payment details about the plan. Make sure before signing up for membership at this club. Most staff don’t even have right information and when you ask for the manager they will provide you with the club telephone number obviously the manager is not there to answer and they just want you to be puzzled and take your money. After talking to the manager he could clarify some details.

While I was in in Newark on Wednesday August 30th I stopped in the planet fitness there on broad Street.
When I walked in the smell hit you bad from everybody working out and sweating.
I asked the gentleman at the counter that I wanted to use the total enhancement and he said they didn't have it there that I would have to go to East Orange and I said I thought that all planet fitnesses were the same he said they don't have it there.
So I had to use the restroom and I asked him where the restrooms were and he said they were downstairs.
When I got downstairs the smell was excruciating it was that bad and I could not wait to get outside and get some fresh air I thought I was going to throw up.
When people go in there and they're done using the equipment they should disinfect it this keeps down germs and diseases and if they're sweating that bad they need to take a shower before they leave poor poor hygiene poor poor staff. When I took the elevator downstairs there was a lady in there that had a mop bucket but I don't think she changed the mop bucket.
The management and the owner need to make some improvements before I'll ever go back in that planet fitness I will not recommend Newark planet fitness to anybody because with that smell that's in there I don't want to see anybody get sick thank you

This is the closest Planet Fitness to me but I prefer going out of the way to Clifton if I have the time. The machines here are old and they want you to enter your weight which I can’t stand. The bathrooms have a funky smell. It’s not that this Planet Fitness is bad it’s just not great. I prefer going to a different location. Also you have to enter via Atlantic St the Broad St door is broken and I could not get in I had to wait for someone who was leaving to get in.

This location gives very misleading information about the parking rules which will leave you having to pay for parking just to attend the gym. ALL of the staff doesn’t have the basic knowledge to answer commonly asked question regarding anything. As soon as you ask questions you will be met with attitude and curt answers.
Leaving you no choice but to not returning to this location. Overall not a gym you would want to find yourself joining.

Poor management in this gym. Most employees and members smell like weed most of the tine making it fell like your safe around people pushing weights thst are high. People sit on machines on therr phones holding up people thst are there to workout, staff does and says nothing to these members when brought to their attention. Weigh rack missing more then half the weights and when you look around the gym there just sitting all over the place not being used. Management does nit enforce gym etiquette making it a horrible place for people that are in there to workout.

Planet fitness on Broad street is scheduled to open at 5am so it can be very convenient with my work schedule. Until today. I got to the door at 4:59 only to see no one was inside the gym. I, along with 5 other people, waited for the location to be opened until 5:20am. It was at that point a woman walked up in her pajamas, it was obvious she had been inconvenienced as well, to tell us the Guys who work there were confused about if they should be at work this morning or something along those incompetent lines bc there was a plumbing issue so the location would not be open. The bottom line is There was no signage stating the gym would be closed today or an individual present to inform paying customers. It is very obvious this establishment has not been Provided adequate training on customer service, effective systems to ensure high functioning of the gym daily, or professionalism from the owner/manager and staff. As a manager myself, I know it is the responsibility of any leader to ensure all staff members are prepared for success through being clear on expectations and leading by example. It is evident that is not a value of planet fitness Broad street. I will not be returning to the broad street location and I suggest others don’t waste their time as well. There’s no coincidence as to MAJORITY of the reviews for this location being negative. As a business in a thriving, cultured community, DO BETTER… meet the needs of your community in an exemplary manner by providing great customer service and a CLEAN facility.

Worst gym ever. The manager is unprofessional and gave me a hard time cancelling my membership. She literally kept asking why and I told her that I just wanted to and wouldn’t let me cancel it without a reason, once I told her I didn’t like the facility she told me that wasn’t a good enough reason. Rude unprofessional and disgusting behavior. Most of the staff are cool except for one gentleman who is close to a lawsuit with the way he treats customers. The manager is rubbing off on them and this entire gym is toxic and horrid. I’d recommend going to any other gym. They really make planet fitness look soooooo bad.

I was a member for 2 years the staff are young and unprofessional they opened 2 accounts under my name and made me pay to close it when confronting them and everything is we have to email someone else and they will get back to you.. NEVER GO TO THIS GYM the handles and ropes to some of the machines were missing so you could not use all the equipment. They allow unprofessional “trainer” meaning not certified solicit you while your working out so uncomfortable and there is no one in there that actually knows how to work out that’s staffed so they don’t give you any advice on working out

Big gym that’s right near my job. Great staff that are always willing to assist. Spacious and large, which is good, but There’s just too much cardio for having 2 full floors of gym space. The biggest disappointment I have here is the massage equipment doesn’t work properly. Out of the 2 chairs, only one half works if anything — only massages your legs no matter what I select — and same goes for the HydroBeds.

I am editing this review because the equipment is starting to fail with no signage indicating this on the machine, and the hours are deceiving. Even tho it says “Open 24/7” on the door, the gym closes at 10 on weeknights and 8 on weekends.

Parking is also an issue. You can park where is says “no parking”, as I witness Newark Parking Authority avoid all cars park here, but there are some times they will issue a ticket. If you park in the businesses next door, security will call a tow truck and move your car. I’ve witnessed this. You can get free legit parking in the garage for 1-2 hours depending on the day/time, but you have to make this gym your home gym in order to do that, so this is inconvenient for me as a free lancer who doesn’t live nearby.

All in all, I recommend the short travel to the Belleville location. Everything works, staff are more friendly, and of course there’s free parking.

Worst gym experience ever. I visited this location for the first time while having a home gym membership elsewhere and was horrified at how Planet Fitness allows this particular establishment to be ran. There was misleading information on the parking criteria. You can park at the parking garage only if you join with that location and it will take two weeks for the parking pass to be active. I went inside the planet fitness and received that information after I already parked. Eventually to leave I had to pay $10 despite not even working out in the gym and was stuck in the parking gauge for at least an hour until someone could bring me the $.
When I expressed to the employees and manager at the planet fitness in Newark I was told to figure it out for myself because there was nothing they can do despite me already entering the parking lot which the planet fitness does not own. There are no options put in place for visitors who did not receive their gym membership from this location. And the parking attendant who operates the parking lot was just as unhelpful when explaining the situation of my visitation for the first time.

The employees give great service I want to start with that, this review is not a reflection on them.

1. Now, equipment in the building breaks a lot(that's life I get it) but it stays broke for eons. No really gets around to it.

2. They don't require masks or social distancing in the middle of the worst pandemic ever despite clear recommendations from the CDC. Just blatant lunacy.

3. They are supposed to be 24 hours but yet still only close at 10 but manage to still charge full price. I would get it if it's cuz they're following guidelines but (see #2)

Life lesson: if you want to pay less be prepared to get less.

Edit: somehow this place got even worse. Now they let high school kids in for free and now they aren't even requiring masks. Just got off the leg press next to someone coughing up a storm all into the air so that's fun.
