I’ve been to a few Planet Fitness gyms, but this one is the best so far. It’s always clean, the staff are nice, and the machines actually work. It’s never too crowded, and the people here are friendly.

Other locations I’ve tried were messy or packed, but this one feels calm and welcoming. I really like using the massage chairs after my workout too.

Overall, I’m happy I joined this Planet Fitness — it’s clean, peaceful, and comfortable to work out in

Gym overall is okay not many machines that other locations have. But the reason why i’m writing this is because any time they are closed for a reason they never let their members know. I had to drive a 20 minute drive there just to find out it’s closed and had to come back home with another 20 minutes drive. The same thing happened in August. I just signed up for a new membership and i clicked on the option to get notifications or news about planet fitness. What’s the reason of having an option to receive notifications if there are no notifications sent like the gym being closed. So pointless. I had to find out that it’s closed from the construction workers after going inside, ridiculous. .

Access Denied Over a Decade-Old "Debt" They Can't Prove

Beware: Your paid membership here can be invalidated by a ghost debt from Planet Fitness's own administrative failures.

I have been a member at this Somerset location since 2022. Today, I was informed that my future access will be blocked due to an alleged outstanding balance from a previous account I closed in person at the South Plainfield location in 2015.

The critical issues here are:

1. No Proof Provided: The staff and manager could not produce a single piece of evidence for this debt—no statement, no collection letter, no email, no log of a phone call. Nothing.
2. Their System Failed: I signed up in 2022 with the same phone number. Their system processed my payment and welcomed me as a new member without any flags. Now, three years later, they surprise me with this claim.
3. Empty "Courtesy": They allowed me to work out today "as a courtesy," but stated I must pay this unverified, decade-old debt to use a service I am already paying for.

It is unacceptable to hold a current member hostage for a debt they cannot prove and never informed me about when I signed up. This is a severe failure in their management and billing systems. I am now forced to spend my time escalating this to corporate to fix their mistake.

Until this is resolved, I strongly advise against joining. You could be next.

Need to fill soap dispensers before they open. Not to have soap in mens bathroom is nasty to think people are using it and just touching machines. Last 2 mornings I went and at 6am no soap...

Edit- Here we are months later and they have closed the mens room for a month construction. No way for men to wash hands after using the nasty portapotties outside. Very unsanitary. At least have hand sanitizer throughout or a porta sink.

Useless gym. 2 weeks of construction and no bathrooms, or now only accessories bathrooms and lockers for women and they expect you to leave your bags up front. If you're doing construction you should make sure facilities are accessible. Worth it to spend the money at a gym where they know how to operate. Avoid this location.

Was doing the treadmill and the manager said my shirt can’t be on the treadmill? and asked me to put it on or put it in the locker room so i just throw it by the window and he comes back around saying it can’t be there either? so i need to stop my workout just to put my shirt away that i took off because i was hot. This is my response to the reply from owner:
The management is the PROBLEM of the 1135 Easton Ave, Somerset, NJ 08873 planet fitness location. Just because I kept my jacket on a chair in the sitting area, I was pulled out of the treadmill inbetween my run. (It caused me a neck sprain) It could have been handled differently too. Once I finished they could have explained amicably that its a rule to put jackets in locker. Instead the tone of the staff was aggressive and rude . I dont have issue putting jackets in locket BUT the locker room/ toilet also needs to be clean.

1.Most of tho treadmills are out of order most of the time
2. Out of Soap in ladies toilet most of time
3. Toilet sink always covered with hair.
3. Toilet, locker room, gym floor never spot clean and always smell ing.
4. Gym area always smelly.
5. Staffs Allows favorable members to not follow rules, but can be pretty rude to non- favorable ones.
6. Staffs not trained on health dangers that can happen on suddenly interruption in between exercises or run.

If I could give the gym 5 more points I would. They have a good staff. The cleaning crew is superb. The man and woman keep everything clean as a whistle. They always have towels in the dispenser and cleaner in the bottles. Which used to be rare. The bathrooms are very clean.

Kenny and Malachi are very personable and helpful. The help you with a smile. Never once have I encountered either one of those guys with a attitude.

The new Manager Shaleke is running the place with a iron fist. I have never saw the gym so clean. I have notice he walks around and checks the machines and gym out daily. If you tell him there is something wrong in the gym. He is Johnny on the Spot.

About time Planet Fitness got it right with the staff.

Disappointed with the Service and Lack of Transparency

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at the branch. I explicitly asked the staff about canceling my membership before the annual renewal, and they assured me that I could cancel without being charged the annual fees.

Later, I was surprised to see the amount deducted from my account. When I returned to the branch to inquire, another staff member claimed that “no amount should be deducted.” I then opened my bank app to show the pending charge, only for them to tell me that I was supposed to cancel before the 25th, as per the terms I had apparently signed.

This was an unprofessional and unclear response. The issue could have been avoided if accurate information had been provided from the start. Now, I am forced to pay the annual fees and continue with the membership even though I wanted to cancel before the renewal.

I strongly urge the management to improve customer service and clearly communicate policies to prevent such issues in the future.

Nonsense! They told me I wasn’t allowed To work out with my high heels on they said it’s their company policy. Mind you online it says nothing about high heels it says open to shoes my high heels were closed toe shoes. The manager who said he was the manager said that they don’t allow their people to come and work out with high heels on. It’s my choice if I want to work out in High heels. I’ve been to the gym for a week straight working out in my High heels and the workers never said anything to me until now. Horrible billing and desk staff. Very unhelpful. My daughter joined a month ago they charged the monthly fee plus a late fee. When I asked they said they had the wrong banking info….. clueless- the money and late fee was deducted from my checking account. The girl I spoke with had no clue. I am extremely disappointed and frustrated with this gym's billing practices and customer service. Despite having all my bank information on file, they failed to withdraw the membership fee on time and then had the nerve to charge me late fees. This is completely unacceptable.

I canceled my membership before the billing date, yet I was still charged. This isn't the first time I've faced such issues with this gym. A few years ago, I canceled my membership, but they continued to charge me for a full year. I spoke to the manager at that time, provided my bank statements with the charges highlighted, and was promised a callback that never came. Despite repeated attempts to resolve the issue, I kept being charged. Each time I visited to speak to the manager, the staff claimed he was not there.

When I finally managed to talk to him, he simply told me to call the bank to stop the charge, leaving me to handle the mess they created. I had no choice but to follow his advice and deal with the bank directly.

I don't know why I decided to give this gym another try, but this experience has made it abundantly clear that they do not value their members or their time. Their deceptive billing practices and lack of accountability are appalling. I would strongly advise anyone to avoid this gym if they care about transparency and reliable customer service.

I made the wrong choice when I join Planet Fitness ... they used to deduct the money on the 24th then they changed it to 16th with no notice ... then they start charging me twice for months ... and when I asked them to change the date of the payment from 24th to 16th they said they are unable to do it so they kept charging you twice a monthly fees, and 100% late fees

Really bad customer service. Tried transferring my club since I have moved out of the area and was told there was no way that they could do it for me, I have no option to do it online, and that I would have to cancel my membership and reopen one at the club I would like to make my home club. This is ridiculous, I'm a Black Card Member, and there is not reason that this should be an issue. Per their Membership Agreement it states that I have the option to transfer my membership given that I am a monthly membership, am not a minor, and have had my account open for 90 days with no transfers made in 90 days. This is absolutely ridiculous. If you are anyone who has any possibility of moving, such as a college student, and would want to change your club in the future, do not open a membership with them. You are better off opening up with Crunch.

Update: Happy to report that I had to cancel my membership here and go back to the Y because I felt they don't listen or care. Also, PF has a lot of issues going on with charging room safety.

Update: Had to call three times to get the manager. I told him about the temperature issue. He also said that temperature is not in his control. Looks like only God controls temperature in this gym. Also he said that no one else has brought it up. But, I see others writing reviews as well. I don't think he will do anything about it.

They have very good equipment, different types of equipment, and the gym is big. You are not waiting for some station to become available. Also, the app sign in is good. Front desk people are nice (usually very young guys/gals).

However, they could maintain the facility better and the people at the front desk could be more aware of how to handle certain situations.
I joined on 23-Dec-2023. I noticed that the water filter had a red light (needs servicing). I mentioned it to the young lady at the front desk and she did not know what to do. It's still like that.
The urinal that's been closed since I joined is still like that.
Also, they maintain a temperature of 70F in the gym which is very warm by gym standards (gyms should have 65 and max 68). Again I mentioned and sent an online message....no action.

Don't bother going on a weekday 4-8 pm. Every machine taken and the side rooms booked for classes nobody allowed. Broken machines are rarely replaced, and the temperature is kept so ac won't turn on under 85 degrees.

Great budget gym with almost every piece of equipment and machine you could ever need. However, for whatever reason the staff keep the temperature of the gym of what feels like ~78 degrees, EVEN DURING THE WINTERTIME, making it hardly bearable to get in a proper workout under these conditions they impose. On top of this the air circulation is quite poor, due to the lack of ceiling fans This problem alone is enough of a reason not to get a membership at this gym. These temperatures during the hotter months are understandable but not during the colder months; the temperature should never exceed 70 degrees.

I like this gym because it’s in a convenient location. I’ve been coming 4x a week for a year. The biggest issue I have is that it’s so hot, aren’t gyms normally supposed to be kept cool so working out is more enjoyable? I start sweating before my workout even begins. I was not allowed to move clubs after signing up here briefly over the holidays and had to send certified mail to cancel. A lot of gyms suck and in most cases you can just tell your bank to stop credit card payments if they haze you. At planet fitness if you stop credit card payments you'll be banned from 1/20 gyms in the US and a greater fraction of cheap gyms.

I was told I could move locations after the holidays online when signing up. That was not correct. I could not move clubs within 90 days. They wouldn't work with me to move clubs and I had to send certified mail to cancel since I was not in the same location after the holidays. There is no minimum term here and I was absolutely willing to pay up for overlapping time < 1 month that I would get with gyms that are actually independent. I don't see any loss for any club or PF corporate if I could move in a reasonable fashion. They'll say they can't coordinate reasonably because clubs are independent franchises but they seem to have no issues coordinating every other aspect of their product. They are simply too corporate to actually care.

This location specifically will not make it easy to move clubs or cancel and won't take cash.

Although I am a Gold Member, evrytime I go to this fitness center to use the Hydromessage(lounge chair) I am told it is not working.
This has happened to me at least 5 times in the last 10 days9I do understand the poer cut on the 10th due to heavy rins, but i dont know the reason for the other 4 times).
I wonder why I should pay the gold membership to use this facility.

This issue happened again yesterday. I was told the lounge hydro-massage chair did not have water in it and hence I could not use it. The local staff said they cant do anything about it.
If I cant use these amenities, then Planet Fitness should return my membership fees since I am paying almost $27/month.

I’m so sad to be writing this review… Most of my reviews are positive and constructive on my profile, but this one I have to write about a staff member (Ch— Given my morals, I refuse to reveal her name.) She was unpleasant, unprofessional, and was projecting while she’s at work. I get that we all have bad days, but don’t come into the gym with that type of energy and mentality. It rubs people the wrong way, and honestly, I was happy and cheerful until she approached me. In passing, she saw that I wasn’t wearing my sneakers. I was walking from the hydro-massage room to the front desk to add another 10 minutes. I was no where near the equipments. I understand that people can get hurt, so I validate that she is doing her job. The issue that I had with that interaction was that she gave me such a dirty, RBF look (looking up and down), and gave me the straight, “You need to have your shoes on. I work here. You can’t be walking around with no shoes on.” First off, “Hello, how are you? I’m sorry, but we don’t allow our gym members to walk around with no shoes on. We don’t want to see you get hurt.” Anything of that nature would have suffice, but she did not do that. Such an unhappy person to be working at the gym. If you don’t like your work, then don’t clock in and continue. It was unruly and unprofessional to say the least, and I hope that if she sees this, I hope she can find some peace and happiness. Otherwise, don’t come to work. Overall, the other staff workers are friendly and welcoming. They greet me with a smile every time and accommodate for my needs. I like the facility and how spacious it is. The gym is mostly clean. I know quite a few of my colleagues who come to this gym, even though it isn’t my primary location. Other than the incident with the staff, I recommend this gym.

While on vacation in Hilton Head Island South Carolina I visited planet fitness with a friend of mine.
I fell in love with the place and when I returned back to New Jersey I joined planet fitness here.
For the price of the membership it's well worth the money.
I enjoy the workouts and I enjoy being there especially with the hydro massage bed the tanning salon and the massage chair..
The employees and planet fitness go above and beyond their work duty to explain the programs they have there I recommend planet fitness to everybody

Great restaurant with some arcade machines for you to indulge yourself in. I have gained 30 pounds while going to this restaurant and I must say it is very classy. You have to sign in with an 6 after that, it's all you can eat buffet, depending on the food they bring in. My most favorite routine is to grab a full pizza box and use on of their arcade machines called the treadmill. My high score is .34 miles in 30 minutes. It's a hard machine to work, I must say. Anyways, great place recommend.

As a gym owner myself that is finely in tune with the quality of my own customers' experiences, I must say that the attention to cleanliness and friendly staff makes this gym a real pleasure to come to. You can pick up heavy stuff anywhere, but I choose to keep coming back to PF. Holger specifically is a welcoming presence and I wish my staff was as aware of my facility and kept things as clean and organized in my own gym as Holger does here. Amazing place.

I attend this gym and have had a great experience. Q is an awesome trainer who is attentive to client’s needs, over the past 6 months I’ve lost a total of 18 pounds and still counting. The bathrooms, machines and overall facility are clean. The staff is friendly highly recommend it.

I have been a client of this gym since last October. The experience I have had in this gym has been incredible. The manager's area, the super attentive employees, always with a smile and giving them the support that one needs. In recent months, I have seen an impressive increase in the cleaning and maintenance of the premises and that is super important for us customers. The equipment is always being cleaned, the equipment is in good condition because the manager is aware that everything is working well. I have had a great experience with the trainer Q him is very responsible person and dedicated to achieving their objectives and goals, the work of this person is invaluable. I am really annoyed by the games this gym plays. This gym was been supposed to open, they just keep pushing that date back. I live very close to this gym, so it would be easy for me to come here and work out. But I can't, now I gotta hop on the bus and go to a whole different one. please open up nowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
