When I first joined I was impressed by the facility being open 24 hours , having a sauna, steam room jacuzzi and pool. However the entire facility needs a major upgrade. Now two months later I’m locked into a contract that I regret. Half of the lockers in the locker room do not lock properly (even with a combination lock) the ladies locker room is very antiquated. The pool is antiquated as are the machines. Looks like no upgrades have been made in years. Functional but the aesthetics could use a major overhaul.

STAY AWAY! Rude and ridiculous. I recently moved into the area and called about trying out the gym for a day. I was looking to join just wanted to try out some equipment and see the vibe for a day less than an hour, which I feel is absolutely reasonable. The fact that I asked to try out the gym must have offended the lady who answered. She acted as if I was a criminal trying to rob her house. Not only rude but charging twenty dollars to check out a gym to potentially join is gross. I understand some people take advantage of guest pass policies at some gyms but the reality is when you have a good person looking to join looking to try out the gym let them try it out for a day and if they like it they join, great, if not that's the cost of doing business, charging twenty dollars is ABSURD and acting as if somebody's trying to rob you for a free workout is even grosser based on the reviews i'm glad I didn't go anyway. Much better options are available. Shame on this place.

I had a terrible experience at this gym last night. When I asked about the guest pass policy, the employee on duty was extremely hostile and aggressive instead of taking a moment to explain. Rather than helping clarify the rules, their attitude made it very clear they just wanted us to leave. I’ve been to many gyms and never encountered such unprofessional and dismissive behavior. If this is how they treat potential or current members, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

Being a member of Powerhouse for well over a year now, I am very pleased with the facility, staff, and overall experience. The gym is always clean, plenty of space, and there is always lots of equipment availability. The classes are great and they offer many every day of the week to suit many different needs. Of course, training with Beth has been an awesome experience all around and has really opened me up to try all types of new workouts, as well as meet new and pretty great people. Lastly, for the membership price AND being open 24 hours, along with everything else offered, can’t beat it!

Powerhouse Gym in Hazlet is by far the best fitness facility I’ve ever been a member of. The gym is impressively spacious and exceptionally well-equipped, featuring everything from free weights and Smith machines to a wide range of cardio equipment, as well as a dedicated boxing area. The facility is consistently clean, and the entire staff—including the maintenance team—is incredibly friendly and welcoming.

Powerhouse offers a diverse selection of group fitness classes and has some of the most knowledgeable and supportive personal trainers I’ve worked with, specifically the head trainer, Bill Marchi. While there are many gyms in the area, what sets Powerhouse apart for me is its size, which ensures it never feels overcrowded, and the inclusive, community-driven atmosphere that makes every member feel at home.

Additionally, the gym's manager, Kerri, is outstanding. She is approachable, attentive, and genuinely values member feedback. Her dedication to maintaining high standards and fostering a positive environment is evident in every aspect of how the gym is run.

This gym is my second home. I love Powerhouse because it has great equipment, spacious room, multiple machines, a turf and all the equipment I need to train. I love the sauna, the steam room and especially the kids club. The kids club staff is absolutely amazing, especially Melissa and Ashley. The trainers are so helpful and encouraging as well. Group classes are too notch, especially the small group training! The members are so polite and nice and I couldn't think of a better gym than this. Highly recommend.

Horrible gym. Horrible owner too. the woman is so stuck up and petty. Tried to cancel my membership and she told me I’m an adult and signed a contract so I told her I’m also a business owner and I have a lawyer on retainer just for things like this. Gym smells like shit. Locker room is disgusting. Equipment is broken and sucks. Not enough free weights. I asked the owner if we can call corporate together and she told me no. I’ve been going to this gym for several years. The biggest advantage of this gym is that they offer a wide variety of modern equipment and classes for a very reasonable monthly fee. I particularly love the pump, combat, and yoga classes (they have many more classes that I want to try when I have more time) - all included in the monthly fee. The instructors are very experienced, knowledgeable, helpful, and motivating - pushing you to your limits, but always showing you proper body mechanics to prevent injuries. If you haven’t tried any classes, I would recommend taking a yoga class or a pump class (we all need strength training!). Kerri is a great instructor as well as Michelle, Emily, Amy, and Danielle. You won’t be disappointed whether you’re a beginner or not. This is a good place to do self-care, and focus on your health.

I recently joined after watching my previous gym in the area fall into disrepair before it closed. So far this location seems to be well run and is usually very clean. The front desk staff are always very friendly.

Update: I removed a star since the locker room is consistently 85-90 degrees even on cooler cloudy days. I have a medical condition that makes me more sensitive to the heat which is why I try to exercise indoors. I guess the pro is you can get the effects of the sauna without actually entering it.

I attended powerhouse for about two years and everything was okay up until the process of cancelling.. I initially sent an email in OCTOBER to cancel, got no response, they continuously took the membership price out of my wallet when i stopped attending this gym AND sent the email in OCTOBER. I contacted the gym multiple times through phone, none of the receptionist could help and out of the 15 times i left my number and name for the manager to call me, she never did.. I called again today and of course manager isn’t available but when the receptionist looked at my account she told me it was cancelled yesterday. I was still frustrated because I believe i should be compensated for the 4 months of charge when i haven’t been there and requested to cancel!! I have been trying to cancel my gym membership for six months without success. When I visited the gym in person, I was told I needed to send an email to process the cancellation. I sent that email back in February 2024, but I am still waiting to receive a response.

Every time I call, I’m told that the manager isn’t available and no one else can help me. Despite promises that someone will return my call, I have yet to hear back. I finally spoke to someone on the phone in May who was able to tell me my contract was until June. I said fine, but please have it auto-cancel. I reached out for confirmation that was never received.

At this point, I feel the gym has unfairly taken nearly $300 from me, and I am extremely frustrated by the lack of resolution and communication.

I don’t like giving a 1 star review as the facility is actually good. The equipment is excellent, never too crazy crowded but definitely a popular spot for high school and university students if that concerns you.
My biggest issue is I’ve now emailed 3-4 times about cancelling and they haven’t replied once. I’ve been in the gym countless times to cancel and told the manager isn’t around and just to email. Initially when I emailed I didn’t realize I had a year contract but they ignored me and I noticed that when I checked online so I accepted I needed to finish the contract then cancel near my end of term. I’ve emailed again now that it’s 2 months from finished and they still haven’t responded. Like 0 response to any of my emails. Not even a reminder that I had to wait out the contract. I’m going to send a certified letter and will cancel my card after the term ends if they continue to be uncooperative. So be aware, gym itself is good but cancelling is a joke. Not sure if it’s new management but be prepared to have the same struggle as I am.

Update:

I decided to give this business a try again and wow fool me again. Entirely my fault for not sticking to the red flags. I signed up for the 2024 locked for life annual membership and they signed me up for 2 years instead!! And yet again 0 response to emails. This management is shocking and I implore anyone considering to be very very careful about setting up contracts with them. They are so shady

I canceled my membership at this gym over a year ago, but I continue to be charged. Despite numerous emails and calls, and even having to get a new debit card and transfer my funds to avoid further charges, I was still billed $70, resulting in an overdraft fee of $30. The office manager was aware of the issue and assured me it would stop, but clearly, nothing has changed.

The gym itself is in poor condition—moldy and unclean. The lack of response and continued billing issues have been incredibly frustrating. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this gym at all costs.

I definitely miss the old gym meridian. The issue is Monday through Thursday very hard at 5pm to use weight machines some like to hang on it for 20 min or more. I love chuck at the front desk on weekends very nice and inviting but the rest of front desk are not very nice or don’t look to like their job. The pool is nice too. Also have tried cancelling my stepsons membership he doesn’t use with no answer back. The gym is always clean which is great. Tried a class in the beginning but have not tried one in awhile and would like to see how they are. I def get my moneys worth as I’m here almost everyday, just those few little things. Love love love this gym! Prior to covid I was a member here since 2006!! This gym offers the most classes per week compared to any other gym around. The body pump class is my absolute favorite! The locker room is always spotless when I go (3x a week) Only complaint is the locker room is sooooooooo hot due to the sauna and steam room but I’m not sure there’s much you can do about that. WORST GYM I'VE EVER BEEN TO. if i could give it 0 stars i would.

1. The staff knows NOTHING. they are unhelpful and always on their phones. Half the time- the desk is empty... but don't worry they'll charge you $20 for a guest every time without fail! When trying to cancel my membership, the staff limboed me around for 2 months and NEVER gave me the correct information to quit. They said the manager would call... never did. I went in when they said the manager would be there... wasn't there. They would have scammed me if I didn't ask to cancel 427 times and cancel through my credit card company.

2. The guests have NO etiquette. I'm talking about personal space and machines. There is no kindness there and everyone is in everyones way. Theres never enough equipment and the turf is ALWAYS a mess. My leg days are full of stress because there are like two machines at most for each workout so I have to wait 20 minutes for everything.

3. The sauna is always left wide open and cold. They shut it down early or don't turn it on some days, mostly because they don't feel like it (what i was directly told by staff). People use it to dry their bathing suits so the benches look like laundry racks instead of sitting areas. Then you're left to sit in a wet spot.
AND There is no sauna etiquette. I know this is fairly common, but at this pricepoint it's entirely frustrating; people listen to titktok out-loud and get annoyed when you ask them to put headphones in or turn it down. I was in there today and a girl started MOANING. (this was very loud and unignorable moaning). Then she yelled at me when i asked her if she was okay. I ALWAYS feel uncomfortable.

I have not had a single positive experience at this gym in the past year. I wasted my money. Every time I go, I leave feeling annoyed and violated. Not to mention, the price is EXTREME for a gym thats facilities are always out of service. Pool, hot tub, steam room, all rotate in and out of service quite often...

I feel like I was scammed into signing up for a full year and hate walking in there. I signed up because i was looking for an upgrade from planet fitness. I'd rather pay half the price for planet fitness... at least people respect your space and your workout there. The powerhouse sauna is unusable anyways so the perks aren't worth it.

The facility has potential, and if a few changes were made I could see the gym being worth the price, but currently it is not. 👎

1. Very few members I have seen wipe down equipment, and it is not enforced by the staff (even in training sessions). You will have to wipe down equipment before to remove sweat marks. 🤢 Very gross and generally inconsiderate gym etiquette.
2. Cancelling is *extremely* difficult. 😮‍💨 I understand this is very usual for a gym, but that does not mean it should be acceptable. I called to cancel 3 times, came in person to talk about the contract 3 times, and emailed 3 times (with no response). Finally, when I was able to cancel the manager suggested to remove my access and taking away my last month 👀 (which you pay for your first and last month when you sign up for the year contract). When I asked if I would be reimbursed for that month, they said "Oh, no". I found it very ✨unethical✨ they would ask to take away your last month of access you pay for and not give you your money back for that month. I was shocked that the manager would even suggest and defend it. This is probably the reason I would suggest anyone away from this gym.
3. It is quite expensive. However, the classes being included is quite nice 🤗 and I would say make it worth the price you are paying if you find classes you like (I unfortunately did not).

TLDR: Sweaty gym equipment. Very difficult to cancel with questionable ethics. Expensive 🫰 but the classes being offered is nice.

February 13th 2024. The amount of snow slowly accumulating leaving roads covered and drivers decreasing driving speeds to safe levels, also, businesses and schools have closed. My hopes of finding a fitness center open, during this weather, have dwindled. Long behold, as I pull into the parking lot of this establishment I see interior lights on the horizon. Like god’s light shining through clouds of rain on a dark gloomy day. As I move closers to the doors I can see receptionists at the front desk, people in the windows on cardio equipment. The doors are unlocked and open for business! Long behold in today modern climate of snowflakes this gym wont let snowflakes keep its doors closed for its members. All are welcome, rain or snow. Truly happy and blessed to be a member of a place committed to excellence and dedication to its establishment. Having had short conversations with staff, all are welcoming, and inviting to speak with. If you can weather the storm, powerhouse gym of hazlet will provide you the warmth and comfort of a home away from home while you achieve your ultimate fitness goals. Manager was never around, even though I could hear her talking to staff about me in the background. Staff was nice but could not help. Customer service is unfortunately very bad here. I have been trying to cancel my membership for over two weeks. I called once, emailed twice, and have even stopped in the gym twice. Every time they tell me to email and the manager is not around and they can’t do anything. They also said I have a year contract which was not advertised when I selected my plan online nor can I find that stated in my contract. I’ve been a member of Powerhouse Gym Hazlet since they opened in February of 2022 and the place keeps improving. It’s always clean or being cleaned, and they’re on top of equipment maintenance. The general manager, Kerri, is always eager to assist with any queries, and all of the staff is friendly and approachable. I’ve never worked with a trainer but they’re unobtrusive and know how to share the gym floor. I enrolled my children in the semi-private swim lessons and was very happy with the results. The instructor was extremely patient and effective. The locker room has everything – the sauna is a game changer. Overall great place to work out.

Great staff. All are very polite. Great place to train. The place is very clean. Unfortunately, some members are not considerate and do not rack their weights. When coming in at 5am, there shouldn't be 315 lbs on a rack when you first walk in. The floor should be clean and racked when opening at 5 am.

Adore this gym. Excellent classes and community. The pool is ALWAYS warm and my daughter and I really love going to family swim on the weekends. Summer is coming and it is so nice to have a spot for her to practice water skills before camps and pool parties start up. Excellent clean facility steam

This gym is quite nice. There is a pool⁶ a pool and classes you can take to exercise in it.
Everyone's friendly. early in the day is great if you like to work out with minimal people around.
They have a schedule of all the different classes they offer online or at front desk as well as personal trainers available.

Was there on just past Friday night with my spouse. The guy at the front desk seemed to not believe that my spouse and I are family. He charged me $20.- for a guest pass just for one night. So it seemed I'm not worthy to be a member there.

Too bad, I kinda like the gym floor. Looked clean and well maintained. Swimming pool, steam room and sauna are a plus. But it's OK. I know they don't like color people here. I will go somewhere else where i am welcome.

Excellent gym equipment. Poor upkeep of Hot Tub non functional for over 2 months. Steam room out of service for 2 weeks. Nice pool but swim at your own risk ++No Lifeguard

It's not the biggest gym, but it's newly renovated for the most part and is kept fairly clean. Mid-morning or early afternoon seems to be the best time to come in. Otherwise, it gets a little too crowded. That's usually how any gym in the area is, though. They have an old-school wooden sauna that gets very hot. I like this gym better than the LA Fitness of Cliffwood. A couple of downsides are that they don't have an extensive amount of machines, and the bathroom could probably use some updating.

Love this gym! The staff and members are courteous, the facility is clean and inviting and there is plenty of room to workout in your own space. There are also a variety of classes – something for everyone with no judgment and plenty of encouragement. Bill is a wonderful personal trainer, and his classes are different each time and always challenging.

So grateful for Powerhouse Gym Hazlet, my new home away from home. Brand new equipment, I love the turf area for functional training, the huge fitness studio and new spin room. The group exercise classes and instructors are top-notch. As a family caregiver, I also appreciate the fact that it’s handicap accessible and has an elevator to the 2nd floor.
Kerri is both an amazing instructor and General Manager. I love this gym!

BEWARE AND DONT COME HERE! THE GYM IS A WASTE OF MONEY & GROSS 🤮 . This place is the worst! The sauna and locker room is dirty always. The employees are rude and the daycare hours are not accommodating 🤷🏼‍♀️ the girls watching the kids don’t even interact with the children 😡 . I wish I didn’t sign the lock in price contract! They don’t tell you that you can’t cancel within the first year or you have to pay a cancellation fee plus the rest of the payments for the full year! Makes absolutely no sense.🙅‍♀️ So I hope someone reads this and takes my advice. Wish I wasn’t stuck in the year contract! Tried to cancel within 60 days of being a member and told this so go to la fitness or anything elsewhere. I sure will be after this year is up.

WORST EXPERIENCE!! I’ve needed to cancel my membership for 2 months!! Due to the fact that I’m moving…I’ve called more than several times in the last few weeks!! The front desk keeps telling me that they will put in a note for their manger and that I will get a call back but I never do!! I was just told after weeks of going back and forth and I am not able to cancel my membership due to the fact that I apparently signed a 1 year contract with the gym!! I signed up for their discount new membership! No where on the flyer says anything about being looked in for an entire YEAR!!

Just went to see what they offer. I was a member years ago. They are still expensive but don't even have someone to show which exercises to do. What is the point of spending a ridiculous amount of money if they offer nothing in return? I may as well just go to Planet Fitness as they offer the exact same thing for much less.

Great place to workout, the gym staff is friendly and pleasant, Kerri the manager is and awesome host at the gym. Love this place, Best trainer in town named Bill. Most popular group workout is Spin and body pump. No judgment at all. Workout at your phase kind a gym.everyone should at least visit the gym.

My first impression of the staff when I walked in was not the greatest unfortunately. No hello or welcome, just cold and short with me but for some reason had a whole different bubbly energy with the gentleman that came in from behind me. I’m obviously not here for customer service but a warm welcome for a new customer would be nice. Nonetheless the gym is beautiful and i’m looking forward to working out here.
