I broke my foot in June 2025 and called powerhouse to cancel my membership due to medical reason. They told me they would still have to charge me the following month because i did not cancel on time. I was okay with them and told them to proceed with it in my billing cycle since i had automatic payments made. Never, not once, did my payment fail to go through while i was actively going to the gym. October came around and i start receiving notifications regarding past due payment, so i called the gym and was informed that i owed over $200 in past due fees. and this supposedly occured because "the payment did not go through". What's funny is, there was never a prior issue for my automatic payments so why after i cancelled my membership, does the payment "not go through" ?
after calling CONTINOUSLY, i would have to wait to speak to a manager, who btw, was not always available so i would have to call back. when i did get in contact, he said he would help me by speaking with the owners. Now, according to the manager, Angel, the owners are saying it's not their problem because i had more than enough past due notices to pay the fees. I CALLED EVERY SINGLE TIME I RECEIVED THE PAST DUE NOTICE AND WOULD BE TOLD BY ANGEL THAT HE WOULD WORK ON THIS WITH THE OWNERS.

About a week ago I had a problem with two women at the gym. I asked to speak to the manager, but he wasn't there. A week passed and he came wanting to speak to me to hear my side of the story. I asked him why you wanted to hear my side of the story; firstly, it didn't make sense because a week had already passed, and secondly, why weren’t you going to check the cameras? He said the cameras don't work. How is that possible?? And then He was very rude to me. I've been going to that gym for years and no one has ever treated me like that. He doesn't know how to do his job as manager. Many of my acquaintances have left that gym because of his attitude. Today I also cancelled my membership!!
His job is to be there to help a customer and he doesn’t know how to do it !!!!!he should learn how to be a manager first!!!!!

Horrible gym. Owner & manager have horrendous customer service. I canceled my membership & filled out a contract & I was still getting charged. They were charging me for 5 months ! After my cancellation. I came into the gym furious wanting to speak with the owner. He didn’t even dare to speak to me over the phone. This isn’t how you treat your client who has been a member for 5 years ! Management changed drastically & not for the better. They don’t care about the member’s satisfaction, only $$. They recently made it a regulation that
if a member would like to cancel they need to speak with a manager. Coincidentally enough, managers aren’t around as long because they leave early. How ridiculous is that? So if you’re a person who commutes far to work while doing a 9-5 like myself , good luck, you’re trapped.

I'm not happy with the gym's service because the manager thinks he can change the customer service policies according to his will and not as it is in the contract you sign when you become a member of the gym. He changes the customer service policies as he thinks he should and not as it is in the contract and does not make a notification correctly he simply communicates to you verbally and very rudely. He simply said verbally from day to night that now the member can only have two children in his registration and I have been a member of more than six and I always took my three children and now he decided to change the customer service policy from day to night. I feel like a person suffering prejudice for having three children. And the manager's customer service was terrible!

I am a member at this gym for 11 years, always paid consistently without failing even when I didn't come for months I supported the gym.
I received a new bank card which canceled the one on record and put me past the 10 days late as the card was expired, I spoke to the manager and he said ABC is in control about the late fee which sums up to $20 which is nothing, It's the principle to look at some clients, I understand the rule and must be followed, but it's unreasonable to some members, 1 star is sufficient

I’m very disappointed with how power House Gym is being managed lately, particularly regarding their childcare service. One of the most frustrating experiences I’ve had was showing up for my regular workout only to be told that the babysitting room was now “at capacity”—a new limit that no one had warned us about.

There was no email, no sign at the front desks a day prior , no update in the app—nothing. I had planned my day around my gym visit, as many parents do, only to be turned away because of a quiet policy change. When I asked the staff, they casually mentioned it was a “new rule” implemented that day, but offered no explanation or apology. I asked to speak with the manager Angel and he showed no sympathy to the situation amd was rude .

As a paying member who relies on the babysitting service to work out, it’s completely unacceptable to change the capacity limits without notifying members. It’s already hard enough for parents to carve out time for fitness—adding last-minute surprises like this only creates stress and frustration.

This kind of poor communication and lack of consideration for members’ time makes me seriously question whether this gym values its community. I hope they get their act together soon, or I’ll be looking for a gym that treats families more respectfully.

Just moved here and paid for the year membership, they gave me a military discount which was great and I really appreciate. I was weighing this gym or the LA Fitness down the road. I haven’t gotten a chance to go to the LA Fitness because this gym is a) closer and b) has everything I need.

This is a big gym with a lot of equipment and a good amount of variation for movement patterns and differing mechanical tension. Some of the equipment is crammed kind of close together so if someone is using the other piece of equipment you are really close to each other. And it is difficult to walk through some areas because of the layout. But again, there is a lot of equipment so you can do what you need.

DBs go extremely high which is great because most gyms don’t go above 100lbs or 120lbs - but I am not a fan of the metal plates DBs, I feel like one day one of the plates is going to come loose and smack me in the face.

It is a really awesome gym, my two biggest complaints are people do not put their weights back, plates up and if they do, they don’t put them in the right spot or same spot. Extremely annoying. I spent like five minutes the other day trying to find the weight I wanted to use for DBs because they weren’t where the rack says they should be (and a lot of the numbers are fading).

The other issue I have is there is a lack of gym etiquette at times. Everyone is super friendly, but hogging multiple pieces of equipment and/or unnecessary screaming and singing - I have to turn my music up and seal my ear plugs because it is distracting and annoying.

Overall, I really enjoy this gym. I give it a higher rated than most and feel good about making this my home gym for the next few years.

I spend more time re-racking weights and hunting down plates than I do actually training here. It’s impossible to tell if someone is using a machine or if they just left their weights scattered but honestly, just assume nobody racks anything. Basic gym etiquette is non-existent.

Went to power house for the first time and I was immediately greeted by the front desk receptionist Crystal. She was very welcoming and knowledgeable about their services and drinks. I ordered the peanut butter dream shake. Hands down best shake I’ve ever had!!! I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with Powerhouse Gym Linden. In addition to the consistently poor service and unpleasant odors, I strongly advise potential customers to scrutinize every single detail of their contract.

Despite the initial friendly demeanor of the staff, be aware that canceling your membership is DECEPTIVELY DIFFICULT. You may encounter unexpected extra charges, be held against your will for an additional 2 months, and face unjustified "late fee" charges. Furthermore, customer service is nonexistent, with Powerhouse Gym shifting blame to a third-party company named "ABC," which is unresponsive and then deflects responsibility back to Powerhouse Gym.

I STRONGLY RECOMMEND you NOT REGISTER your card with them. If possible, pay in cash, or, better yet, choose another gym. I am canceling my membership after losing nearly $100 in fees and charges that were never disclosed to me.

In summary, I believe Powerhouse Gym engages in deceptive and scam-like practices. NEVER AGAIN!!

I’ve been a member of powerhouse for I would say a little over 4 years now I like the gym itself they have great equipment & clean environment there’s just some things that can be fixed for example no paper towels ! The only gym I know that does not provide paper towels. They provide tissue for your nose to clean yourself up.
The kids daycare hours is not long enough for working parents.
Parking is horrible at times.
The only gym I know to have a barbershop in it as well.

Sorry to update this. As a member for the third year I am embarrassed and ashamed of who you hired as manager. This guy was unprofessional rude and condescending. The level of arrogance and lack of understanding was disgusting.

I came in to update my method of payment since I got a new card and because it was a few days overdue he refuses to waive the late charge which is more than the cost of my monthly membership I spoke to him and I said what about customer service what about a one-time courtesy just on the principle alone I'm coming in and you guys never even called me I would have done it over the phone he explained to me how being an adult's works how it's paying bills work how getting a new card from the bank works unbelievable I was spoken to like a child not as a member who's paid on time all these years.

He refused to collect payment for the month past due and told me "we are done."
Didn't try to work with me or be nice at all. I even asked him are you willing to lose a consistent memeber over a late fee - that you can cut in half if you wanted to.
And he then repeated he doesn't have a different answer for me. I asked him to cancel my membership then and then he replied, I did.

Utter and absolute disrespect.

I paid the overdue balance from the month before and I paid the late fees, meaning the My membership has already been active due to lack of payment. So do you believe that now once I've submitted payment and thinking everything was canceled they've now actually reinstated my membership and are telling me I have to start the 30-day process over again.

I RARELY post negative reviews for businesses but hopefully my cancellation process and sticking to your guns was worth this review from an old “customer”. I joined this gym during COVID because they were the only gym open at the time (red flag but I wanted to train). I kept my membership open and came here for 4 years on and off. As many other reviews suggest, your cancelation will be a nightmare. After canceling my membership in person they proceeded to send me to collections due to the 60 day policy which the representative in person said I didnt have to pay due to a sudden death in the family and move out of state. I didnt ask for this accommodation, I was aware of the policy but here we are. It would have been better to train the staff to properly communicate, clearly the employee wanted nothing to do (or wasnt trained) on the computer system in regards to cancelations. All good, moving forward. Let’s discuss the state of the gym starting with the parking lot. FACTS:

-The parking lot: The parking lot does not fit close to the cars necessary to support the member volume, my car was hit twice, people park like animals, there are zero lines or stripes. Park at your own risk because its a zoo. You’ll be lucky to dig yourself out of a hole to go home (I’d love to hear the snarky rebuttal from management on this like the other reviews I just read.)

- The gym is filthy. From the machines to the bathrooms to the cardio equipment. One girl working 12 hour days cant keep up clearly, its not her fault (give her a day off and hire a cleaning crew, stop pinching pennies, use the “60 day cancelation budget” that you cant communicate properly.)

-Front desk - youll be lucky to get an acknowledgement that youre coming or going from the disgruntled staff. I’d imagine they are angry because of the constant calls from old members who are in collections or due to the unsanitary conditions.

-Broken machines - I know youre not the only gym with broken machines, but youre by far in the lead with downtime.

-Scattered dumbbells all over the gym. Ive been going to gyms for 30 years and never seen anything as bad as this. I would hunt for dumbbells every workout and just used 25’s if I needed 35’s, wasnt worth the treasure hunt.

-Plumbing odor. It reeks of sewage constantly

-Why are women cleaning the mens restrooms? This is more disrespectful to the employees than myself. I feel bad for them.

-Why is the fire department there for gas leaks every week? Doesnt seem safe.

-Plates - you dont have enough or nearly enough of anything 45’s, 25’s, 10’s, 5’s. Buy more so people can actually use plate loaded machines and barbells.

It’s not easy running a gym. But if you know you have deficiences like the few of many I itemized, the least you can do is train your staff to properly handle an exit of a member of four years, is it worth having bad review after review due to your own lack of communication and training with your own staff? Nobody cares about $39.99 and a termination clause, what people care about is how you treat paying customers at the front door. I never used the filthy bathroom (who in their right mind would?) I didnt care about using whatever dumbells I was able to find. I turned a blind eye to the parking lot people would barricade my car in and the parking lot with craters the size of bowling balls in the pavement, but you didnt even so much as acknowledge your inability to properly cancel memberships. Run a respectful, clean and honest business, dont shaft people when you’re in the wrong and clearly have a history of mismanagement. Learn from your mistakes and honor peoples word when they say your staff misrepresented something because most likely they did (owner: read your reviews). This could have been a decent one. It’s hilarious youre calling people liars in rebuttals to all of the reviews. People dont just post untruthful and dishonest reviews because they were treated well and had good experiences, nobody is that insane. Do better, from one business owner to another.

A gym that disappointedly makes decisions without considering the needs of its members. They recently removed all paper towels, apparently because some idiotic people were flushing them down the toilet and causing clogs. Rather than punishing all members, would have preferred if they threatened to remove paper towels IF these idiots continued doing so or had some of the gym floor guys sitting in the break room (for long stretches of time rather than working) monitoring the bathrooms. As a result, members are using the reusable towels meant for wiping down machines to blow their noses and wipe their sweat, then leaving them around the gym. Doesn't seem like this was the ideal situation.

Speaking of the gym floor guys (specifically those who work at night), they tend to just sit around in the break room and don't do much till probably the last 30 minutes of their shifts. Aside from admittedly doing a good job of restocking the fridge with beverages (makes sense since the gym makes money from these purchases), the free weights and other equipment are always left a disorganized mess.

This gym does have many positive qualities but the more negative ones tend to negate these, making it only an average gym at the end of the day.

This gym is unprofessional , disrespectful, disorganized. The bathroom sewerage backs up and there’s no bathroom available. When they are working it smells like mold and sewer. The equipment is old and broken. No maintenance being done. The staff have no knowledge on the proper procedures and they state they don’t know when management is available. The manager refuses to give messages to the owner so nothing is resolved. The owner is cheap and has no experience in fitness therefore the gym and staff are poorly ran. Staff is late opening up. have been a loyal member of Powerhouse Gym for the past 10 years. I am writing to address a troubling incident involving one of your managers, as well as an ongoing concern regarding the cleaning schedule of the men’s restroom and showers.

On Saturday, at approximately 9:10 a.m., I raised an issue about how uncomfortable it is for male members to shower and dress while the men’s restrooms and showers are being cleaned by female staff during the morning hours. I also noted that this task would be better suited for nighttime to avoid discomfort for both members and staff.

In fact, one of your female employees privately shared with me how uncomfortable she feels when male members get undressed in front of her while she is cleaning. She told me she wasn’t sure how to handle such situations, and I can understand how awkward and distressing this is for her. This is why I strongly believe this situation is problematic for both male members and female employees alike and needs to be addressed.

Unfortunately, when I shared this feedback with the manager, he became extremely aggressive. He yelled at me, got uncomfortably close to my face, and created a hostile environment. If not for the intervention of one of your employees, the situation could have escalated further. Despite my efforts to de-escalate—including apologizing if I had done something wrong—the manager continued yelling, insisted he would cancel my membership, and even threatened to call the police because I spoke to other members about the situation.

I also told the manager that if my membership were canceled simply for voicing my concerns, I would take legal action. I urge you to review the security camera footage from Saturday morning, which will show the details of this incident, as well as speak to the witnesses who can confirm what occurred.

As a member for 10 years, I value the gym community and environment. However, this incident has left me feeling disrespected, and the unresolved cleaning issue continues to cause discomfort for both members and employees. I kindly ask that this situation be investigated thoroughly and addressed appropriately to prevent such incidents in the future. And next day i find out that my membership was cancelled.

I tried to cancel the membership over weeks and was turned away because management wasn’t on site, I was unable to make it between 9am-5pm when I was told management would be there, because of my own work schedule. I came in on my off day within that 9-5 window and communicated with “angel perez” my multiple attempts to end my membership and his main focus was trying to scam me out of another month to paying triple what I paid monthly during my 1 year contract with powerhouse. Terrible customer service, terrible management. The gym is lovely but the general manager “Angel perez” made me sure retro fitness will be a better fit for me…. The owner of the facility called me with the same animosity although I’ve been a member for over a year, they are rude disrespectful and unprofessional people they called me asked me if I was busy and could talk then hung up on me when I was reaching for a respectful compromise. If I could give this place less stars I would. A fine place to workout but management just doesn’t manage.

I was given a student account initially because I am in college, and they attempted to charge me above the said price. So I had to call each month and correct this consistent mistake for 12 months. I put the exact amount due on the card each month so it can be processed and if charged wrong i'd call the gym when it opened and pay that same day which I can provide evidence for. Arguing is not what I did I was asking them to listen to a full sentence instead of constantly cutting someone off as I and my mother spoke.

Tienen muy buenos equipos, muy limpio. Es un buen lugar. Le doy una sola estrella porque me molestó muchísimo que me cobrarían por una membresía que no pedi. Pedí pagar por un mes de prueba y termine pagando por muchos meses que nisiquiera fui. This gym is pretty overpriced for what it offers. They have an ok variety of machines but their conditions are questionable for sure. Some are unbalanced, weight numbers fading or no numbers at all, and bent parts. It's understandable that heavy usage ages things but there seems to be no upkeep. The dumbbell rack is a mess, with missing pairs, overcrowding so weights will be placed anywhere BUT the rack. It's lacking at least another squat rack. Tight parking lot and $15 guest passes too. On top of that Ms. Ariana Fitz seems incapable of answering a simple yes or no question through email about cancellation fees. Way to obscure information from your customers! You could get the a similar experience at one of the cheap gyms for a better price.

I love this gym, good environment, the staff is very professional, the exercise machines always are in good conditions is very clean, they have suggestions box if in case you got something in mind to suggest like (new machines). Also they prepare delicious shakes, they have babysitting service. Nice place to workout 💪 👌.

Overall, as far as equipment and training is concerned, the gym has all the basic strength machines, as well as cable machines with various exercises; along with squat and deadlift platforms. Cleaning staff deserve a raise and reward for their consistent effort in maintaining the gym atmosphere’s environment to a high standard. Some machines tend to go out of service, but they are repaired within a week or so. It’s a gym at the end of the day, not much really separates this gym from others, and where it really matters is culture and management.

My problem is with the gyms pricing model and management staff: if you are late by a day or your card number changes and forget to update, you are charged a late fee of $15 which is excessive. Quickly, the structure of membership pricing at $35/month on a discount is still kind of too much in my opinion (part of the reason I’m leaving), I mean even at that price you can’t even bring a guest. Additionally, I’ve seen several people over the past year who have tried to cancel, only to be told the employee at the desk can’t, or they don’t know how, or only a manager can which is not present at the moment. I personally know someone who has tried to cancel only to be given the run around on cancelling and making it more difficult than it needs to be. Some people just want to switch gyms, or are moving, life happens, that’s not how you treat paying gym members. Membership pricing at the very least needs to be on the website (which may be out of control for this branch, but a suggestion nonetheless). Lastly, they need to do some parking lot work, so many potholes and cracks. Been here for a year and am on my way to cancel in July, when my membership expires.

This gym has everything we need starting with a clean gym with maintenance workers cleaning up throughout the day. It’s never overcrowded because they have enough space so that’s a huge win for us. They have straight and curl bars up to 100 each along with weight machines from top to bottom. A good amount of leg machines as well so you know that’s a plus. When you don’t feel like being in the weight room they have an open studio mirror room with cycling available and also a boxing room with two speed bags. For those of you that like to grab a pre workout or post shake you will enjoy this gym because that stays available all the way up to 15 minutes before closing at 11pm. They also sell RX water here for those that care about hydration know what that means those that don’t should definitely try it out. The cherry on top for the gym is always steam rooms or saunas and this place has a clean 10 man sauna probably 12 depending on if guys make it fit. Overall it’s the gym want to go to because you are next to the turnpike, route 1&9 and directly across the bridge to Staten island and Brooklyn. For me it’s all about convenience and cleanliness. 💪🏽

been attempting to find out more about this location. such as the costs and enrollment. The sales representative does not seem to be there when I walk in twice. The woman working the front desk is clueless about the location she is working at, and management is also absent. I ask two simple questions do you hava a membership for like two people? Or can you bring some of you are a member? Is it possible for us to take a tour to get a better understanding of the location? And all she could answer was "I don't know can you come when the sales rep is here"

I used to like this gym and ever since it got a new owner, I have come to love it. Has all the machines I need to do my full workout routines.

The staff is friendly and after coming here for so long it starts to feel like a small family haha.

What’s cool is that they have a sauna, posing room, and they host several events every month. They even offer a monthly posing class for free!

Only downside is that it can get packed during certain times but what else do you expect of a great gym?

For me this gym is very convenient since it is close and saves me a lot of time the problem is that because it is a little small maybe (I don't care) but by leaving the weights super messy and the bars full of discs it becomes very uncomfortable to do a routine without spending time it is annoying of course there are many machines but there is not much space and messy Lately there are many groups that take over certain areas and fill up with their gym bags in the middle of the way, it seems dangerous to me and they take a long time. Hopefully and there will be improvements if not I’ll have to look for another one 😔 and I don't want something far away or if they opened another gym in the area between Elizabeth and Linden it would be great and I would change.

Great gym I’ve been attending here for well over a year , there is great lighting here , over the past year there has been much more equipment and it has an adequate amount of space . The workers here are great as well , one of the workers named Andrew always tends to help you out and show you better exercises for the specific muscle groups you’re targeting .

I have been coming to this gym for a whole year and i can say this is a great gym. The gym has everything you can ask for (free weights,machines,cardio machines,posing room,smoothie bar). The machines are always working and rarely broken and when they are the places fixes it quickly. Everyone in the establishment is very friendly especially the worker Andrew he always there willing to help anyone which includes how to do a work out or just questions about contracts. The only complaint i have is that there’s some machines i wish they have but that’s just my only “complain” and i wish they can definitely read some of the requests for those machines i’ve asked for and others. besides that’s great gym and see my self still working out here 👍🏼

Smelly & over-priced for NOTHING. The one extra room where the cycles are, is always busy with classes, so it's not usable for hours EVERY NIGHT.

The workout area is basically 1 big room with all machines/treadmills/ free weights in it.
The employees are rude & never greet anyone because they're too busy on their cells. Any other gym is better than this place. Greed is their motivation.

Beware when signing your contract. they would tell you anything to sign up,(in my contract I stated. that I will be moving to DC in my contract). They said sure no problem if you move we will cancel.
