This is genuinely the best gym experience I've ever had! The atmosphere is incredibly motivating without being intimidating. The entire facility is always spotlessly clean, and the equipment is well-maintained and plentiful. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to help or offer a spot. It feels like a genuine community here, not just a place to lift weights. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a positive and effective fitness environment!

Powerhouse Gym Newton has become a home away from the home. I’m there like everyday because it’s such an awesome atmosphere to work out in. The staff and facilities are incredible.
I 100% recommend working in personal training with Adam. Whether you’re working on weight loss, trying to make gains and or working on your nutrition/overall health goals. He’s your person.
I have lost 67 lbs since I started working with Adam 10 months ago.

New edit - I’ve reached out via email for the cancellation policy per the gym on a sheet of paper and no one has responded (followed up 3 times). I’ve then tried calling 5 times and no one answers as well as the email is full. I’ve started to try to cancel my membership due to moving and the first attempt was on 8/31

Edit: **went to gym today and no wipes or even paper towels to wipe down equipment**

Half the treadmills don’t work properly -gym followed up and are working on it! (Called me) put them past 5mph and they buffer on the speed can’t maintain a constant speed.

Usually some dirty rags on gym floor
Flooding issue could be solved by putting money into the entrance rather than sandbags and tape

It's not the cleanest, but they put in a mediocre effort. It's not the most well equipped and equipment offering isn't the most up to date with trends/studies/standards. However, the staff is great, 24/7 access is highly convenient, and it has everything you would need to execute most training programs.

i moved here from central jersey and it's literally 2 minutes away. Able to access gym 24 hours a day which is huge for me. I Started working with Jess one of the trainers and absolutely in love with her. She understands my needs in fitness and as a women and this has been huge for me. Chris is who I first spoke to when Joing the gym and took the time out to ask a little about me and my fitness goals. I Really appreciate the effort by the staff by helping me feel comfortable with starting a new gym. I Have been greeted by several clients of the gym and everyone is very friendly. HIGHLY recommend this gym to anyone in search of a new gym

Filthy at the time of my membership, active water leaks that left the facility smelling of mildew/mold.

When canceling membership because of this, they did not allow me to do so without paying a fee.

Needless to say, I’ve been to the facility twice and disliked it due to cleanliness (or lack thereof)- I paid that month’s due and refused to pay the fee.

They then went on to charge me fees that amount to nearly $600- I’d not received any notice they then sold that ‘debt’ to a collections company.

Now, a full year later- I wake up to see my credit score greatly impacted due these fees that were arbitrarily charged.

I will be seeking legal advice regarding this manner as it is now affecting my ability to make considerable life moves as my lease is nearing its end and my credit (once immaculate) has now been tarnished.

Waste of money and absolutely disgusting.

I moved to Lafayette from Roxbury and needed to switch gyms from Planet Fitness in Rockaway to Powerhouse in Newton.

I decided to give it a try because it was literally one of the few options available in the area.

After signing up, I truly regret my decision and should have just kept my old PF membership.

1. Men's bathroom is gross. Pungent smell of urine is in the air.
2. Machines are always in some sort of nasty state or not working. (Sweat streaks on handles and on bars, people not cleaning up after themselves, treadmills not working correctly.)

I guess cleanliness of the machines / equipment is not a priority for this gym.

I now have to pay $99 (which is ridiculous for a gym that's maintained with such minimal effort) to end my membership at this gym.

It's overpriced... the manager doesn't care about the old equipment or customers, the building constantly gets flooded when there is a little bit of rain. The staff barely greet you on your way in. save your money for another gym they aren't worth it. On top of that, I don't even believe they clean equipment because there's a rancid smell that comes from the cables.

I really love this place. It has gotten very busy in the last 3-4 months. If I had to suggest things to improve an already great gym it would be. More dumbbells in the main section for 0-50lbs (There's only single pairs in the main section). A hack squat (The leg press is great, but could really use it's sister. A second lat-pulldown station (This is occupied almost nonstop especially when the gym gets crowded). A freemotion cable machine would be awesome. Lastly if I'm dreaming, would love a Hammer Strength Plate-Loaded Shrug machine.

I joined powerhouse gym of newton in mid January of 2023 and it’s been really good so far. I enjoy the space. They have a good balance of weight area, machines, and a stretch area. The staff is super friendly. I have to give props to Ian. He’s a personal trainer who gave me a taste of personal training with a free class. I found it very helpful and I got to learn a lot about my physical capabilities. It was a great new experience and Ian is fabulous personal trainer. Power house gym of newton is my new go to gym for keeping me active and healthy.

Love this place! The vibe is motivating and everyone is friendly. If you feel like just doing cardio or lifting heavy, it offers both. There always seems to be new equipment showing up and everything is maintained well. It's just an awesome gym overall. I have paid $100 a month for gyms that are half as good. I would not compare this to a $10 gym that you will never go to. This Powerhouse is doing it right! I highly recommend!

If I could leave zero stars I would. I am so disgusted with how this gym handled things. I wanted to cancel my membership, so I called to see when my contract was up. The person at the front desk said I could cancel any time regardless of the contract. He also said I would have to pay a cancelation fee. I was shocked. When I signed up, I was NEVER informed of a cancellation fee. I was aware of a contract and only thing that was stated was that I had to wait the 12 months for the contract to finish. But apparently, the guy at the front desk couldn't even tell me when my contract was up, and he said it didn't matter, I could cancel anytime. The whole point of this horrible review was the lack of information. I was never informed of the cancellation policy and the fee. When I sent an email about the situation, I did receive a call back. Since I worked a full time job, I cannot get on the phone. So, I sent another email back and never received a reply. I waited about two weeks. I then sent another email about a confirmation that it was canceled. Did I ever receive confirmation? No. My sister emailed about canceling and wanting confirmation. Did she receive a reply? No. I am so disgusted with how this was handled. A simple email back would have been nice. Goes to show me and everyone I tell of this that this gym does not have the professional customer service. I will NEVER recommend this place to anyone. All I wanted was a simple email back and to be informed. I guess that was too much to ask for.

Signed up in December, decent gym. Disappointed that I was told I could attend any powerhouse upon sign up as I made mention that I was moving in six months and this has proved not to be the case. Good space for a workout. Just could use staff who better understand policies instead of assuming just to get a sign-up through the door.

The gym itself is fine, good mix of equipment, exactly what I was looking for to get back into lifting.
The first time I went everyone was accommodating and wearing their masks, no issues. Unfortunately, every time I have gone since then there have always been at least two people that either wear their masks around their neck, or take them off while they are doing a set. I understand it isn't the companies fault that people don't know how to follow rules, but it has caused me to become disgruntled every time I go. Considering canceling my membership until this issue is resolved or the pandemic is over.

No windows, drab grey walls, and treadmills pointed directly at flat grey walls with TVs directly overhead and small screens at waist level. So you can only really run and look directly at flat grey walls. Floods and closes yearly. Mismatched weights and no air flow/cooling while running on the treadmills so I'm soaked and overheating after one mile.

I liked the gym for a while but after awhile it was off of my path to work and etc. But what really is makes me never come to this gym is they cut the lock off my locker and took my belonging and put it in a bag in there storage place which made me feel violated. Now they told me that send notifications but I never got a phone call, text or email. So if you will go to this gym I would not leave my stuff in the lockers over night.

Instead of adding a smoothie station, they need to add more equipment! C'mon utilize your space more efficiently! No proper clips for the bars.

First I am not using my real name to avoid conflict at this gym. I’ve been going here for 2 months and for the area the gym is decent, but there are some obvious areas that need improvement. They don’t seem to have a cleaning service as the gym floor is always dirty with rocks, dirt, hair, paper towels. If the staff at the front would only walk around with a dust pan and broom instead of scrolling through social media on their phones the problem would be solved. The bathroom floor and showers always have hair and toilet paper around. I would advise they hire a real cleaning service because people want a clean gym. The pairs of dumbbells and also plates do not match. They have thrown whatever weights they had lying around onto the floor. Also they desperately need more plates for the barbells because I find myself walking all over just trying to find a certain weight. The benches they use seem to be made out of steel and not aluminum as they are extremely heavy to reposition. The urinal in the men’s locker room was installed too high so if your under 5’10 your aiming up lol. Some positives are the projection tv, I enjoyed the Bluetooth and screen on the treadmill, the water fountain is unique and great to fill water bottles. The cost per month is good but you do sign a year contract. The size of the gym is nice and roomy so their is potential. Hopefully they make some improvements.
