I really like this gyms layout, classes with Tammy, and equipment but they have a severe selfie problem. I can't work out in the mirror area bc of the constant filming. It's treated like a photography studio and not a gym. Self obsessed ladies take pictures in the locker room in front of the sauna all the time and it makes me feel like a zoo animal on display. There are no signs anywhere to discourage this behavior. I'm not there to be a prop. The front desk staff has taken a strong stance on not doing anything about it. I haven't gone to the gym in months because of this issue. I'm torn on what to do bc I'm paying for nothing at this point.

2 stars until they properly fix the sauna in the men's locker room. I understand that some members abuse the heater, but most of us do not. The sauna will not go above 100 degrees. Several times now I turn the sauna on approx 30-40 minutes before going in, only to find it is struggling to hit 90 degrees, and I've been using this sauna for years so I understand how to operate the controls. People are dumping water on the heater because it's been on the fritz for a while and now it doesn't work at all. Only one heating rod BARELY glows red. PLEASE FIX THE SAUNA

I’d personally give this space a 10/10. It’s extremely clean, well kept, very spacious, has great customer service and the vibes don’t lie aka the energy of the atmosphere is wonderful. I also have conversed with a few of the workers and they have all been very friendly. Keep up the great work!

Love Retro in Bayville, NJ. I have a Retro in my own town but take the drive to this one because everyone is so friendly and it’s very clean and spacious. When you arrive you are greeted with a good morning and when you leave they acknowledge and tell you to enjoy your day. The members too are very good with one another. Everyone is friendly and helpful. I really enjoy coming.

Great gym overall — friendly, spacious, and the equipment is well maintained. One small suggestion: it would feel even cleaner if hand sanitizer dispensers were added at the cleaning stations. Since the gym no longer provides wipes and now uses spray bottles with paper towels, having sanitizer available would really help members feel more clean and keep everything extra hygienic.

I go because it is convenient to get to from my house. I am one to regularly use the locker room. For over a month now their hasn’t been any soap provided to shower with. On occasion I need to put my work clothes that are on hangers inside a locker. The lockers are to small to allow for clothing on a hanger.

I have been a member of this gym for over 10 years, I’m 50 and yes, I admit it, I’m a bit of a meat head. I grunt a little from time to time and I have been known to drop weights from exhaustion. I’m a gym rat, it’s what I do. But don’t mistake that for being impolite or inconsiderate and the retro staff knows that it takes hard work and consistency to get the results and they have always been very helpful with advise, support and a spot when it has been needed. Sharon, the manager has always been so upbeat, positive and helpful and I must say she does an excellent job running this gym. All of the equipment is always well maintained and in good working order, the gym is clean and the staff is friendly.

Why would a gym advertise that they have 150lb dumbbells if every time you use them you have to be quiet as a mouse. People drinking coffee and reading their kindle while others are trying to work out. When talking to the “GM” Sharon she couldn’t seem to care less. She also became extremely rude and condescending. The best gym around. I've been training since I was 12 and competing in powerlifting since I was 13 ...and I cannot stress enough this gym has it all. The equipment is incredible...hands down the best retro fitness around . From average recreational lifter to athlete of any kind retro bayville...or as we refer to the 'the ville' has it all. I also can't stress enough how amazing the staff is...it's truly like a family there. Everyone knows everyone and is friendly and assistive..Jeff is the best owner I've ever encountered. He genuinely cares about all of us and goes above and beyond to provide the best equipment and training experience for all of us. Sharon is truly a one of a kind GM...she's always got smile and so willing to listen to how your day was or ask how your workouts going. She is consistently asking us our opinions with equipment as well and strives to continually provide the best, friendly clean workout environment around. I can't stress enough ....retro bayville is truly the gym for everyone...where someone who is just training to possible lose a little extra weight or feel a little better can work out side by side with someone who may be training for a meet or show. It truly tailors to every fitness need and the staff and members all have the same goals in mind...health and wellness. I am in recovery and I share consistently that I would not have been able to stay sober had I not had this facility...I call it the cathedral..to myself and so many other members it's so much more than just a gym ...it's a safe space...it's a home away from home. This facility gets no stars from me after witnessing how they’ve treated my husband. I work out with my husband often and after Sharon spoke to him regarding his “grunting/noises” I never heard him do it again and know he was working on breathing instead of “grunting”. I have seen Sharon get into multiple altercations and yelling matches at the gym, in front of everyone. What kind of facility condones their employees to scream at anyone, let along paying customers. Even if there is an issue there is a way to speak to someone. Sharon (manager) and Lisa Jackson both attacked my husband at the gym together with their bullying tactic to hopefully get a reaction from him but unfortunately for them it didn’t work, and he walked away. Honestly both made us feel very uncomfortable being at that gym. The problem is not with my husband, the problem starts with Sharon. This is the third Retro gym we have been going to and she’s been a manager at each of the gym’s we’ve gone to. She has a personal vendetta with my husband and bullies him and forces him out of every gym. In my opinion she has split personalities, one day she’s hugging us welcoming us to the new gym, the next she’s screaming at him. If my husband was so horrible, why did she invite him to their law enforcement fund raiser. In my opinion, if you are not a “retired local” the owner does not what you in this gym. And Sharon and her minions tried to enforce that. I have seen older men their stare at my husband and I, working out, with plain disgust as if we are doing something wrong working out at a facility we pay for. Here’s a suggestion how about you make one of the rooms that you don’t use a room for the retired since they have such a problem with people who want to work out and occasionally make a noise because they are lifting something heavy. Lastly, making up stories to portray that my husband is not a nice person and evil to people at your facility is comical. I have personally spoke to the woman who used to work the front desk and she told me they would make her say something to my husband, but she wasn’t going to because she could care less and it didn’t bother her. We’ve had other gym members approach my husband to tell him keep working out and do what he does because he’s motivating. AND other retired men and woman approached us, while we were together, to tell us how inspiring we were and how we stayed in shape which motivated them. Sharon, Lisa AND the Owner are bullies and need to take some lessons on how to facilitate a gym that works for EVERYONE, that pays to go there, and to take some classes on how to respect and speak to people who pay money to workout at a gym. I could honestly go on and on but I think I have gotten my point across that my husband was absolutely not the problem at this facility and highly doubt we will be the last unhappy members. I’ve already seen multiple members leave this this establishment over how Sharon has treated people and forced them out. DO BETTER!

I dont know if other members have noticed lately but there was a no bag rule on the gym floor that use to be enforced. There use to he an older African American employee that was good about making sure this rule was followed. I havent seen him lately and certain people leave there bag and stuff on equipment while they do laps around the gym rapping to themselves. I would address this to the manager but she is too busy working out on company time. I had a family member request to speak to her one time and she was told shes busy working out now and doesnt like to be disturbed. For someone to ignore her job to workout is ridiculous. Maybe ill reach out Rob and Lisa Madison to discuss my concerns cause jeff is there and takes no action when things go wrong. .

By far the worst customer service I have ever received from any business. I bet anyone leaving reviews saying otherwise has never needed the assistance from the so called “GM”.
GM Sharron showed that she doesn’t know anything about customer service and immediately escalates situations.

I have been a member at retro for about 5 years and have been going to retro fitness bayville and Lacey not in any order just whatever I feel that day since my membership allows me to go to any retro. However when I went to retro bayville I scanned my card and it said my account is terminated, they told me not to worry about it and that imma member at Lacey. So I start my workout as I finish my warm up sets and the girl that let me in comes up and says that I’m not a member at Lacey either and if I wanna workout I have to pay for a guest pass. I say no and that I wanted to talk to the manager in which the employee replies “she’s just gonna tell you what I said” so I ask what I have to do and I’m told I have to go Lacey and change it there. I go there and the guy shows me on the computer that I transferred and since the only gym I go to is bayville and Lacey I have to call bayville back and this time I asked for the manager and while she didn’t want to she got her manager the manager explains the issue as the employee did and then says one min. She comes back on the phone and says that the issue was my first name and last name were switched and that’s why it wasn’t coming up. She then says “oh it’s an easy fix come in and we can handle it” Mind you i was kicked out without any attempt to resolve the issue. So then I ask why the first course of action was to kick me out instead of trying to resolve the issue in which she replies we didn’t kick you just said you had to pay a guest pass fee (scammer talk). Which I replied to so why weren’t you called and why was I told to go to a different town to resolve the issue again she replies we didn’t say that and I say back that she indeed did at this point it’s been 5 min of talking and not one apology from either person. I ask her again how I pay a membership fee to go to any retro which I pay extra to be able to do that I’m being kicked out this “GM” has the amazing problem resolving skills says that I didn’t pay her and that I paid retro Lacey… both the same company…. So the resolution was she didn’t wanna assist me at all even tho the whole problem was on their end.

I love Retro Fitness of Bayville, NJ. Let me start off saying that they have an amazing staff. They are friendly and knowledgeable. They're always available to answer your all your questions and to show you how to use the equipment. The facilities are huge and always spotless. Everytime I go there I see workers cleaning down the machines and steam cleaning the floors. There are sanitation stations fully stocked throughout the gym at all times. Some great added perks are the smoothie bar, massage chairs, tanning beds, and dry sauna's. They even offer classes of all kinds. Something for everyone. Check out retro fitness, bayville, NJ. Went to another doctor after Gaffner. My whole nose was removed because Gaffner did not get all the cancer when he did mohs surgery. Simply the best there is around! This gym is high quality. As far as Retro fitness goes, I would rate it easily as the best in NJ because I have seen them all. From management, work ethic, cleanliness, professionalism, to quality of the gym equipment equipment and flooring. You don't get better than this location. The vibe here is very supportive and family oriented. Problem children don't last long here either. Just simply a great environment in my opinion, the best there is. The working staff do an excellent job with keeping the gym organized, well maintained with world class customer service. I'm sad to have to be relocating and will struggle to find something to compare this gym to. But I'm moving to Florida so it can't be that bad.. There are a lot of people working out at this time who abide by the rules and it's a great environment until the nonsense starts. Horrible. The gym consistently doesn’t open on time at 4am and leaves people sitting outside who have only the mornings to get there. They’ll stay closed until 530-6am which is two hours later than the listed opening. On top of that the sauna constantly doesn’t work. In my opinion it’s a waste of money to pay for a gym that can’t even open on time. If you go later in the day sure it’s fine, but 1 star for months of paying to not being able to go. Get it together

Absolutely atrocious! Due to devastating and unfortunate circumstances I had to cancel a membership that I recently acquired in October for my daughter I called to explain my situation and that ultimately I would be moving, with no retro fitness within 25 miles. The manager Sharon Solieri-Dey was beyond unprofessional! nasty no empathy, nor any compassion whatsoever. Refused to cancel and basically said oh well and proceeded with her nasty, ignorant demeanor. I’m not even sure if she had blood pumping through her veins and human truly . Needless to say, I got absolutely nowhere with the conversation.. and there after my credit card continued to be charged every other day all different amounts, above and beyond the gym fee, so badly that my creditor issued a fraud alert on my card and now thankfully continues to block and decline all of their attempted charges, which are still.. as i write this ongoing and incessant. Every other day i have another attempted charge for a different amount. I have screenshots and I will be filing a report with the Better Business Bureau. They continue to text me leave me messages over and over again, it absolutely blows my mind how there are people working with the public with no sense of human decency , I do not wish ill will on anyone or for anyone to go through the things that I’ve gone through or going through which let me to have to cancel my membership but as the holy Bible is written..an eye for an eye, what goes around comes around . So very disheartening.

Lastly it is just dirty and old , not updated . God knows what fungus is thriving all over that place! This place is pure dishonesty snd corrupt!

Great Gym and equipment but poor management, I went here for over a year and needed to cancel my membership because I was moving. I walked in they told me it was done and gave me a form, just to find out days later via email that that transferred my home gym to toms river (Without telling me), and didn't notify me until once I left the state so I couldn't cancel. They also didn't respond to my emails when I inquired more information and have been charging me for months. Very unprofessional

Signed up 3 months ago and I have a list of pro’s and con’s for anyone interested in coming to this gym. I’ve been lifting / active for the past 10 years. I’ve lived in 4 different cities through out that time and have been a member at planet fitness, retro, la fitness, and equinox. Retro fitness in bayville takes the prize for my least favorite fitness club so far. I signed up because of its locality and sauna. The sauna being the main selling point to me, because let’s be honest most equipment is the same at all fitness clubs with a few exceptions.

Pro’s :
- There are many dumbbells, treadmills, and stairclimbers so you never really need to wait for the weight you want.
- The staff is actively working all the time on cleaning the equipment. Two particularly stick out, an older woman who is very sweet and the younger man with dreads who is very kind.
- Not many juice heads in there screaming or throwing weights. (Not against this, but it’s also nice to not hear all the time.)
- Lots of natural sun light comes in the gym. It’s not a selling point, but better than lifting in a dungeon.

Cons -
- Some of the equipment and machines need some TLC.
- The mens sauna is closed half the time due to “vandalism.” According to the owner, putting water on a sauna is vandalizing it and this must be their form of punishment. Not fair to people who actively go to this gym because it offers a sauna. As per conversations I’ve had with other gym members they feel the same way.
- The hours are horrible. During the week it would be nice if they were open an hour or two later and on weekends they close by 5PM.
- The let people sign up under the age of 18 and lift without a parent, guardian, or supervision. This leads to a mob of kids during certain hours crowding machines and equipment for extended time.

I’d like to say that there is a lot of room for improvement and I’d hope that the owner considers this review.

Also a little message to the people pouring water on the sauna. If the gym staff and owner is requesting for you not to pour water in there just listen. You ruin the opportunity for others because of your selfishness. It works just as well dry as it does with steam. To be fair i get it… I don’t think the water causes issues. But rules are rules, so if you want to ruin other peoples experience at the gym just stay home.

Poor management. Dirty high school type gym. Many young kids and cell phone squatters. Not enough stations per squatter. Planet Fitness is less money, more locations, bigger and clean. Had been a Retro Fitness Bayville member for approx 5 years. Always paid on time. Moved and canceled membership in person June 2022. Retro in Bayville had recent new management and employees. Sharon Solieri-Dey the new manager continues to attempt to charge my credit card even after many communications the membership was canceled. She’s not nice and continuously threatens collection activity. Retro Fitness Bayville has incompetent staff, a dirty gym and very poor customer service. Do yourselves a favor and join elsewhere. Am happy with Planet Fitness. Many more locations in PA & NJ.

I've been going to this gym for 2 years but I stopped going due to too many young kids going, there, they should call it "gym for kids". LOL. And the girls....forget it. They dress so inappropriate. If they could go naked it, they would. That's a shame because the gym is really close to me.

This Retro gym is managed very well compared to other Reto gyms I have been to. The gym is very clean and I give credit to the custodian for how seriously he takes cleaning. The gym just recently obtained new tree mills, which look really nice. There are a good variety of machines in the gym. I would highly recommend Retro in Bayville.

Biggest retro in the area that’s still open a lot of room with a lot of equipment and it doesn’t feel cluttered when there’s 50+ people working out in there positive people and staff great place to get away and work out and encourage others

I've been going here for almost a year. Francine trained me. She is a great trainer with a friendly personality. The place is always kept clean. Including the ladies room. Friendly staff. Lots of equipment plus room to workout without weights. Classes too.

I've been a loyal customer for 10 plus years. I never stopped paying my membership, if when i was unable to attend. I even continued through covid, defending it to my wife that if my $20 a month helps them pay their employees than why would i cancel? I recently ruptured my Achilles tendon and obviously can not work out, when it happened i called and was told i had to come in to freeze my account, i was physical unable to do so until today, only to find out i can only freeze it for 2 months and that would cost me $5/month to do so. As I stood their leaning on my crutches, i was told it was the new policy and they were sorry. No way to treat a loyal customer, so I canceled my membership and will never be back! To inconvenience and charge a customer to place a hold on an account,really retro- F..k you!
