It's def not Retro... lol, the gym equipment is old and never cleaned. Half of the equipment there for anything cardio is mostly broken or not used - just wasted space. Not a big gym but it's some place to go, don't go here expecting it to be super clean or great equipment that isn't it but it is a place to go workout and get things done. Regular gym rats/goers its fine, to the pampered princesses ehh prob not.. I go and don't think its bad but it is annoying when you got equipment that doesn't work.

A crazy amount of machines don’t work. Clientele is weird and douchey. Expressed people yelling at other people for innocuous reasons several times. Lincroft retro is 10x better, cleaner, and more functional.

The gym is great and all the staff is nice except the girl that works on Fridays night. She is so rude and every Friday when I come and ask to use the steam room it only works for 5 minutes then shut off. When I politely asked her today what happened because every time I ask her this happens and when I ask any other staff member I never have the same issue, she treated me like I was using it for free, when in fact I am an ultimate member and pay to use the facility as everyone else. I feel disrespected and disappointed with her attitude since I am not used to this kind of treatment, specially from someone I always treat with respect.
Unfortunately this makes my experience in this gym poor, because it makes me not want to come again just to avoid being mistreated

I’ve been to several different Retro’s and this is by far the most well-maintained.
After being a member for a while, with my main gyms being Flemington (now closed) and Raritan, I left for a couple years, as Raritan struggled to maintain their machines and keep their gym and locker rooms clean and functional.
I was really happy to see Freehold after that experience. Unfortunately it’s too far to be my home gym. The layout is great, the locker room was clean with nothing broken or falling apart (take notes, Raritan) and even the tanning booths were clean and comfortable. Great place!

Went in for the first time today, this gym is absolutely awesome. I could not possibly recommend it higher. The woman this morning at the front desk was very friendly and helpful I had a bunch of questions and she was kind answering all of them never had an attitude, great weight room with everything you could ever need, great cardio equipment and a cross training style room that was perfect to finish off the workout with some box jumps. The bathrooms were clean and the steam room is such a cool thing to have and so helpful for anyone trying to get rid of aches and pains. 10/10 absolutely loved this place.

Been a member since the day it opened. I actually had a misiunderstanding about payment which ended up being entirely my fault. To say they handled it professionally, is an understatement. I confessed to them afterwords. They just laughed along with me. The employees are very attentive, the gym is clean, and the entire atmosphere is friendly. It’s an alright gym for the price, but a lot of the equipment is outdated, half the cardio machines don’t work in some way, and the clientele is hit or miss. A lot of people working out shirtless.

Also not to mention, Fox News plays on the big screen 24/7. Rampant and clear propaganda isn’t something I want to see in the middle of my workout.

I joined Retro 2 weeks ago so I could do barbell workouts with free weights. I was a bit nervous, as a beginner - There are some very muscular people at this gym. However my experience has been nothing but positive. Staff have been great. Other members have been helpful. The gym is clean.

Update: Still great. I've moved on from just barbell training to some power and speed exercises. Retro has a Functional Training room with bands, jump ropes, sleds, boxes and more.

Any bad reviews of this place are probably influenced by a conflict of interest. There's nothing wrong with this gym. It's clean and they have everything you need and it's 20 bucks a month. You can pay double this amount and still not get this kind of quality. I have been to hundreds of gyms all over the country. I can't speak for classes or trainers or anything like that because i don't use these services, but the equipment ALL works properly (extremely rare) the dumbbells are always on the racks in the right spots, it doesn't smell, idk what more you want. If you don't want to get in shape, definitely don't go here.

I stopped in for a leg workout today. I haven’t been to this location before. I used the leg press in free weight area. It was a little different than ones I’ve used before. I ran into trouble trying to put machine back into the resting position. I couple guy came over to help. There wasn’t any diagram , instructions like on most machines usually do it on how to use it.One of the guys had to show me. It wasn’t like most others I’ve used before. When I was leaving I spoke to woman at front desk,she seemed like she was a manager. I suggested it be properly labeled. I was surprised when she suggested that I should have figured it out before using it. She said there usually is someone around to help out and show new members Around . I told her I wasn’t new to working out and not a new member just not used to machine like it before. She said she would make suggestion, but didn’t think it would be taken to whom ever and shrugged.

This gym is the best!

The child care room as always immaculate with so many toys for all ages. The staff in the childcare room is always extremely friendly and very happy to see my boys.

The classes are great! I specifically go Jessie's Total body classes and they have taught me so much and made me so much stronger over the course of two months.

Everything is always very clean and in great condition, plus the staff is beyond friendly which I really appreciate.

I like the gym and the staff, clean and well run, never crowded. But after 5 weeks of no wi-fi I think it is, at the very least , disingenuous, if not downright dishonest, to advertise this as a "free wi-fi " facility . When I first joined several months ago, wi-fi connectivity was flawless. Now Im continually told "its being fixed" or "it is fixed" or "its works for some people, not others". I have tried 3 different devices, only to be told NO INTERNET CONNECTION. If that's the way its going to be going forward, fine, Ill download content prior. But to continue this silly farce of empty explanations, not to mention advertise free wi-fi , is folly.

Joined the Lincroft Retro without fully vetting because it was on my way home from work and cheap. After working out a few times I realized not a clean and well maintained place, grimy and sweat stained equipment, peeling paint etc. Then I found Freehold, closer to my home and miles above Lincroft as far as amount of equipment, cleanliness of equipment, condition of bathroom/locker room etc. The floors sparkle ! Thank you retro Freehold, and please give Lincroft your maintenance companies phone number *** Update****
The wifi has been out for close to a month now and I'm always told "they are working on it" C'mon, its been a month now. If its going to be a non-wifi facility, fine, I will download content prior to arriving. But enough of the silly farce "they are working on it". It just does not hold water

Was at the grand opening. Great to see a family run business with so many enthusiastic employees on hand. Facility looks great, awesome children's area (colorful, fun and safe). Owner's were on hand to answer all question and instructors were readily available to assist you in any way. Definitely not a gym for posers. Great facility and workout.
