Pretty upset that their closing this location due to not enough "profits". At the end of the day it is a buisness and it needs take money.....maybe a relocation (to a busier location in Jackson , maybe on county line ) brining in New dumbells or even some new equipment that would attract NEW customers....it pains me that I've got to travel another 20 minutes into howell which will be PACKED . when Jackson was open howell was very busy now waiting for equipment ,impatient people ...is this what im paying for ?🤔 .......goodbye retro💔.... hello IRON REVOLUTION 💪

It is my main gym i like it overall as a gym but ive also seen the bad to 1. Some of the tvs are broken on the machines 2. Very very bad water quality in the bathroom for hot and cold so i wouldnt even trust the fountain 3. No prices on the drink menu so you never know what anything costs till its already made 4. Cardio machines arent inspected for cleaning ive purposely left something in the holder on friday and come back on a monday and its still there which i couldnt believe i would say those are the only flaws ive seen other then that its good

Currently being held hostage to my membership. The policy is cancellation at any time however they purposely make it impossible to cancel unless you come in person which I cannot do now. I have been extorted for three months already and despite numerous phone calls and emails to supervisors have not received an answer.

I went to Retro while visiting family for the weekend. This gym is a beautiful facility! They are clean, friendly and have an inviting atmosphere. GREAT COVID PRECAUTIONS! Temperature checks, express check in and out, disinfecting wipes in convenient locations, every other cardio machine available, employees cleaning, reminders of how to wear your mask and to socially distance. Didn’t have to wait for any equipment either! Can’t wait to visit again!!

Great gym I love it never had a problem with anybody, everybody is friendly!. But I just started Going again and I don’t like that some of the employers don’t wear a mask!! And a lot of people in there after working out they don’t clean their station and they don’t sanitize their hands, and then they are touching weights and machines!. If i could give 0 stars, I would. Recently moved and tried to cancel my membership being i was no longer located near a Retro Fitness. It seems like you must have to be deceased in order for them to cancel your membership. I spoke to the manager Sharon in regards to my situation and I was shocked by how rude she was over the phone. The gym is disgusting and the customer service is even more disgusting. I will be sure to make a corporate complaint in regards to my situation. Stay away from this gym, there is a planet fitness fairly close i would much rather recommend!

Went to Jackson diner with the family for lunch few weeks back, and noticed Retro Fitness right next to Diner. Went in to check out, and was surprised to see a full fledged gym. We got a great deal, and signed up my entire family, and thus far, we are quite happy with our decision. 20 bucks a month is probably the greatest investment, that I can make for my family.

Yesterday, I was at Jackson Retro for a quick workout, getting ready to hit the elliptical and leave. I went to the door of the exercise classroom just to check the schedule. The door opens and there's Rod inviting me in for his Spin class. I had so much fun. He got me good! My legs hurt today! Lol. Love Jackson Retro!

Update 2-8-2017; Seems they screwed me over two for last three years. Just noticed they are still billing me and I cancelled before my wife. They need a registered letter or stop by in person and get this 21 days process to cancel. What a shady way to do business. My wife cancelled membership, they keep ignoring and sending bills. They even had the balls to send it to collections. Rip off artists counting on people just letting it ride.

I began my workout career 4 years back and while the staff is a pleasure to deal with overall, terrible management is an understatement. Trainers come & go without warning - retro just takes the money without regard for the client. Regardless, I had a contract and the only way out was to change address locations. They charged me 2 days after this being the due date even though I had proof of my name and address change, immid terminating my contract inevitably stealing 18 paid & unused sessions. Welcome to retro management! Managers have come and gone numerous times as well as other staff - unstable.

Poor Management , very disrespectful owners and staff. I been working out for over 30 years using fitness facilities all over the world. The staff at Jackson Retro harasses members and makes discriminatory comments. As I witnessed how they disparaged other female members regarding their look , weight , and body type.

Thinking this was perhaps a bad day and I over-looked what I witnessed, but until i saw Retro Fitness of Jackson repeat this with other members including my daughter I felt it was time to cancel membership.

I never wrote a bad review nor a good review on a public website before. But felt compelled to do so in effort to save others from having the same bad experience's which I witnessed.

Other Retros I been too have been a great experience. Simply the Jackson NJ Retro is staffed with un-professional staff including the owner whom I spoke to about my concerns.

PS. The owner told me to pound sand and cancel my membership.

Love the quietness at 5am unlike since other gyms; however, even with a small crowd, the female locker room is unaccommodating. There is only one small counter dedicated to getting ready, but you can use the counter with a sink in front of it if you like constantly being bugged so someone can wash their hands and like your stuff being blown over by the way-too-sensitive hand dryers. There is an entire wall by the lockers that should, at the very least, be covered in mirrors! Also, there are no paper towels in locker room either. It's a girls locker room, let's use some common sense here and take advice from your female staff, who I know have brought these items to management's attention many times in the last three years that I have been a member.

I have been working out a long time.

Nutshell:

Good equipment and dumbells to 125.
Good functional area.
Lacks an Arc Trainer like Woodbridge has.
Poor subscription to Cable Tv. When you workout you either watch Retro Ads or Watch horrid music videos. Not much else.
Very overcrowded at times.
Very high ratio of high school kids in Jackson- all male.

Place feels dirty. I am not sure if it is overcrowding or products they use to clean. I know cleaning person is working hard but perhaps he cannot keep up.

Trainers have been Spamming my inbox without permission but have stopped since I unsubscribed.

A Howell Retro Trainer borderline stalked me before joining Jackson. I called there and he called me back from the caller id. He was horribly rude, pushy, and inapproriate.

***Lower rating is for sometimes fire code violation overcrowding and poor Cable Tv to cardio equipment ***

I have also had membership issues in past. I cancelled for a few years and worked out home. I stayed the extra 3 months per contract then they kept billing my credit card for many many months. It was a real headache to get fixed.

Now that Planet Fitness and Meridian have great gyms locally, perhaps everyone will improve their level of service. Healthy competition.

***. If Retro gets more Arc Trainers- diversity and improves Cable I will up this rating***

I recently moved this from 2 to 3 stars because they have added some lateral cardio trainers. They look gently used but are a very welcome sight. Hopefully better cable programming will be next. The lateral trainers have no screen at all. I hope I can keep moving this rating up.

I moved and tried to go to a local retro to cancel my membership, they would not do. I contacted this location and was told to send a letter which I did last August.. They never canceled it and I now have creditors calling. When I spoke to the GM, Mike, he said it was suppose to be certified mail, which I was not initially told and was not willing to help me and stated it was out of his control at this point. Which I know is BS because they can contact the credit agency and say it was taken care of. When I asked for a corporate # his response was 'you can go online and try to find it' because there isn't one listed at all. Clients should not be punished because the teenagers running the place give out the wrong information.
